  • Overriding or overloading?

    - by atch
    Guys I know this question is silly but just to make sure: Having in my class method: boolean equal(Document d) { //do something } I'm overloading this method nor overriding right? I know that this or similiar question will be on upcoming egzam and would be stupid to not get points for such a simple mistake;

  • Is the set of data always normalized in one form or the other in Databases

    - by manugupt1
Suppose I have a set of data, given the data and the relation schemas can I assume that the set of data is normalized in one form or the other. In my opinion raw data given, has to be normalized into some form. However a discussion with a friend has led to ask me this question here. To expound more on the question, I would say given a set of functional dependencies for a relation or table, is it guaranteed that the table would atleast be in 1NF if not others

  • Execute function every nth second

    - by timkl
Total JacaScript n00b question right here: I've made this snippet that clicks a link after 10th second: function timeout() { window.setTimeout(function() { $('img.left').click(); }, 1000); setTimeout("timeout()", 1000); } timeout(); My question is, how do I execute this function every 10th second, instead of just once? Is this the best way to do this, or is there some kind of nifty jQuery method that you prefer?

  • Double paging definition

    - by Albinoswordfish
This is not a programming question but more of an operating system question Right now I'm trying to learn what exactly Double paging means. I see two different terms, double paging on disk and double paging in memory. Apparently this problem arises when we introduce a buffer cache to store disk blocks when doing File I/O But I'm not really sure what exactly this term means. If anybody could specify it would be very helpful.

  • How can I get jquery to toggle-fade a flashcard div open and closed on click?

    - by Edward Tanguay
    What do I have to change to the code below in order for the user to click on a flashcard header to open and close the flashcard answer? I couldn't get toggle() to work with fadein/fadeout the version below doesn't respond to the click code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.google.com/jsapi"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> google.load("jquery", "1.4.1"); google.setOnLoadCallback(function() { $("div > div.question").click(function() { if($(this).next().is(":hidden") { $(this).next().fadeIn("slow"); } else { $(this).next().fadeOut("slow"); } }); }); </script> <style> div.flashcard { margin: 0 10px 10px 0; } div.flashcard div.question { background-color:#ddd; width: 400px; padding: 5px; cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; } div.flashcard div.answer { background-color:#eee; width: 400px; padding: 5px; display: none; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="1" class="flashcard"> <div class="question">Who was Wagner?</div> <div class="answer">German composer, conductor, theatre director and essayist, primarily known for his operas (or "music dramas", as they were later called).   • About High Availability

    - by Invincible
I guess my previous question was ambiguous. I am looking for High Availability architecture for system application like Database in particular. I know this is not perfect place to ask this question. Can anybody suggest some good resource or book on High-Availability? I want to learn as much as I can on high-availability before I start building my system. Thanks in advance!

  • Weird syntax for extending jQuery

    - by cantabilesoftware
I recently saw this code on another post ( http://stackoverflow.com/questions/499126/jquery-set-cursor-position-in-text-area ) new function($) { $.fn.setCursorPosition = function(pos) { // function body omitted, not relevant to question } } (jQuery); After too long trying to understand what it was doing I finally figured out that it's just creating a new function with a parameter $ and then invoking it with jQuery as the parameter value. So actually, it's just doing this: jQuery.fn.setCursorPosition = function(pos) { // function body omitted, not relevant to question } What's the reason for the original, more confusing version?

  • How to write a spinlock without using CAS

    - by Martin
Following on from a discussion which got going in the comments of this question. How would one go about writing a Spinlock without CAS operations? As the other question states: The memory ordering model is such that writes will be atomic (if two concurrent threads write a memory location at the same time, the result will be one or the other). The platform will not support atomic compare-and-set operations.

  • Recommendtations for a simple name registrar

    - by ripper234
I'm currently registering my domains through GoDaddy. Does the registrar matter? Any recommendations for registrars you're especially happy with? (See this very similar question, that requires API support. I need no such support, hence this question is more generic).

  • Play DVDs in Python?

    - by Zachary Brown
I want to write a custom DVD player using python that plays for 30 seconds, then pauses and asks a question. Once the question is anwered, it tells the user if they are right or wrong and gives them a Resume button to resume DVD playback. How do I do this. I have never written a DVD player before, but I am open to learning!

  • When should I opt for test driven development?

    - by VJ
My question is same as the title. I have not done Test driven development yet,I have performed unit testing and I am aware of testing in general but I hear it is much advantageous to follow TDD?. So should I opt for it everytime or are there some preconditions... i just need to know some basic or important requirements when i should opt for TDD. Sorry if this question is too trivial.

  • SystemIO Exception when opening RFCOMM in Mono

    - by Chief A-G
I have a Mono application which opens a RFCOMM connection (/dev/rfcomm0) but when I run as a user, I get a System.IO.IOException Interrupted system call. I'm running this on openSUSE 11.2. If I run the application under sudo, it works fine. I have added the dialup group to my user account so I'm not getting a permission denied error. I'm not sure if this is a Mono serial comms question or a permissions question for ServerFault.

  • A list vs. tuple situation in Python

    - by Alphonse
Is there a situation where the use of a list leads to an error, and you must use a tuple instead? I know something about the properties of both tuples and lists, but not enough to find out the answer to this question. If the question would be the other way around, it would be that lists can be adjusted but tuples don't.

  • Opengl Coordinate System

    - by praveen
Say I am using an Identity Matrix for my modelViewTransformation Matrix on an Open GL ES2.0 program. The Co-ordinate system in this case is the canonical opengl co-ordinate system which extends from (-1,-1,-1) to (1,,1,1). My question is, is this coordinate system right-handed or left-handed? A broader question: Is there a document with OpenGL which can list all the mathematical conventions followed by the API?

  • How does a GUI Framework work?

    - by AlexW.H.B.
I have been all over the web looking for an answer to this, and my question is this: How does a GUI framework work? for instance how does Qt work, is there any books or wibsites on the topic of writing a GUI framework from scratch? and also does the framework have to call methods from the operating systems GUI framework? -- Thank you to any one who takes the time to try to answer this question, and forgive me if i misspelled anything.

It seems that StackOverflow is more concerned about programming techniques and coding skills (which is a good thing!).. But I am asking if anyone knows another "StackcOverflow"-like site, but which is mainly concerned about Machine Learning and AI? BTW: I have asked this question after nearly a week without an answer for Question

  • How does Android emulator performance compare to real device performance?

    - by uj2
I'm looking into writing an Android game, tough I don't curerntly own an Android device. For those of you who own a device, how does the performance on the emulator relate to real device performance? I'm especially interested in graphics related tasks. This obviously depends on both the machine running the emulator, and the specific device in question, but I'm talking rough numbers here. This question is a duplicate, but since that post is heavily outdated, I figured it's irrelevant by now.

  • <?php echo $questionTitle; ?> [closed]

    - by oil
So this "question" makes no sense and will be closed. But are you willing to spend your hard-earned reputation to downvote it? Go on. A programmer should be able to make logical decisions, why will you downvote the question then instead of ignoring it?

  • Why increased pipeline depth does not always mean increased throughput?

    - by worlds-apart89
This is perhaps more of a discussion question, but I thought stackoverflow could be the right place to ask it. I am studying the concept of instruction pipelining. I have been taught that a pipeline's instruction throughput is increased once the number of pipeline stages is increased, but in some cases, throughput might not change. Under what conditions, does this happen? I am thinking stalling and branching could be the answer to the question, but I wonder if I am missing something crucial.

  • Django + Ajax

    - by Joe
So, I am just starting to use jQuery with one of my Django projects, but I have a pretty noobie question. In a django view you have to return an HttpResponse object from the view, but sometimes I don't need to return anything. For instance, I might just be updating the database via ajax and don't need to send anything back. So my question is, what do you do in that situation? Thanks

  • How to safeguard my code

    - by ram
I had posted my question in the below link on how to protect my code using Hg http://stackoverflow.com/questions/173875/how-do-you-protect-code-from-leaking-outside The question is: In a DVCS scenario how can we restrict the code leakages? Is there any way technically to restrict this like when I move our of my work automatically history of codes should not be viewed?

  • Javascript VS C#

    - by Joris
Maybe a strange and green question, but Is there anything C# can't do what javascript can... And considering JQuery? except for the fact that one is clientside, and the other serverside? Or am I asking a very stupid question now?
