• Finding the most similar numbers across multiple lists in Python

  In Python, I have 3 lists of floating-point numbers (angles), in the range 0-360, and the lists are not the same length. I need to find the triplet (with 1 number from each list) in which the numbers are the closest. (It's highly unlikely that any of the numbers will be identical, since this is real-world data.) I was thinking of using a simple lowest-standard-deviation method to measure agreement, but I'm not sure of a good way to implement this. I could loop through each list, comparing the standard deviation of every possible combination using nested for loops, and have a temporary variable save the indices of the triplet that agrees the best, but I was wondering if anyone had a better or more elegant way to do something like this. • Is it a problem if i query again and again to SQL Server 2005 and 2000?

  Window app i am constructing is for very low end machines (Celeron with max 128 RAM). From the following two approaches which one is the best (I don't want that application becomes memory hog for low end machines):- Approach One:- Query the database Select GUID from Table1 where DateTime <= @givendate which is returning me more than 300 thousands records (but only one field i.e. GUID - 300 thousands GUIDs). Now running a loop to achieve next process of this software based on GUID. Second Approach:- Query the database Select Top 1 GUID from Table1 where DateTime <= @givendate with top 1 again and again until all 300 thousands records done. It will return me only one GUID at a time, and I can do my next step of operation. What do you suggest which approach will use the less Memory Resources?? (Speed / performance is not the issue here).

What would you do?

  I have a html table in a view MVC4 that I am sending to excel as output. Inside the view page I have some columns that have multiple lines that are built with forloops within the HTML. What's the best way to add the or \r\n so that excel renders it correctly? I have a table and inside I build each row looping thru a recordset. In each row I also loop thru different recordsets to populate columns within each row so that some of the columns may contain more than one value and they should show in different lines in the table that will export to excel.

• [R] how do I quickly group the time column in a dataframe into intervals?

  Hi, Assuming in R, I have a data.frame with the first column representing the time (as POSIXct). The rest of the columns (e.g., columns 2) are numeric data. I would like to group time into 3-minute intervals. Each interval will the the average of values that falls into that particular interval. Right now, I have a for-loop that iterates through the time column and generate the interval on the fly. I am wondering if there's a more elegant way to accomplish the same thing? Thanks in advance.   I'm pretty new to Python programming and would appreciate some help to a problem I have... Basically I have multiple text files which contain velocity values as such: 0.259515E+03 0.235095E+03 0.208262E+03 0.230223E+03 0.267333E+03 0.217889E+03 0.156233E+03 0.144876E+03 0.136187E+03 0.137865E+00 etc for many lines... What I need to do is convert all the values in the text file that are less than 1 (e.g. 0.137865E+00 above) to an arbitrary value of 0.100000E+01. While it seems pretty simple to replace specific values with the 'replace()' method and a while loop, how do you do this if you want to replace a range? thanks

  I am using the following to check if links exist on file.php: $fopen = fopen('file.php', 'r'); $fread = fread($fopen, filesize('file.php')); $pattern = "/^<a href=/i"; if (preg_match($pattern, $fread)) { echo 'Match Found'; } else { echo 'Match Not Found'; } if I echo preg_match($pattern, $fread) I get a boolean value, not the found matches. I tried what was on the php.net manual and did this: preg_match($pattern, $fread, $matches); then when I echoed $matches I got "Array" message. So I tried a foreach loop and when that didn't display anything I tried $matches[0] and that too outputted nothing. So how does one go about displaying the matches found?

  I am using javascript map to store keys and values.Later on I check if specified key is present in map or not, but it sometimes gives correct result but sometimes it dont.I tried to print the map using console.log(mapname), it shows all keys, but i i try to check if some specified key is presnt sometimes it gives wrong answer.   I'm making a little java game in which I would have two threads (well as the FIRST step towards multithreading...), one for the logic and one for the drawing. So my question is: How can I make those two communicating which each other? Requirements: accessing variables and object from a another thread syncing them so they each complete a same number of "loops" in the same time. (the logic calculates and then the another one draws the results and the loop begins again...) So how is this achievable in java? Thanks in advance!

  From what I read about Java NIO and non-blocking [Server]SocketChannels, it should be possible to write a TCP server that sustains several connections using only one thread - I'd make a Selector that waits for all relevant channels in the server's loop. Is that right, or am I missing some important detail? What problems can I encounter? (Background: The TCP communication would be for a small multiplayer game, so max. 10-20 simultaneous connections. Messages will be sent about every few seconds.)

  Hi, I've been searching around the web for an answer to this one, but was unable to find an answer, on the other side I think it's something quite common thus there is a possibility I'm missing some keywords here. Anyhow, the problem is as follows: When is control given to a callback function in ObjC (iPhone)? Does it happen after control is given to a high up in the hierarchy class responsible for the runloop? Can it occur in the middle of another function call being executed? As an example, let's take the NSURLConnection, we don't know or can't predict when it's going to call didReceiveResponse or the other callback methods, can it be the case that didReceiveResponse get's called when I'm in the middle of another function? (highly doubt that but was unable to find information on callbacks wating for the end of the run loop) Cheers, Kaspa

  hi all i am trying to make a musical app for iphone. the app is simple. there is a couple of musical note sample (caf) files. when user taps the predefined positions on uiview(like strings). app plays note sample and add a string value to a nsmutablearray about note. played note lists displays in a table. now i want to add a shake and play mode to app. when user shake iphone, recorded notes start to play from first record to last record and loop again. also if user shake iphone harder notes will plays faster. how can i do that. any idea? thanks

From a text file, I'm trying to store two strings from that file into arrays and then do the same with the next line (or until I desire, using a for loop) Using strings is important to me as it will make my future program a lot more flexible.

  I do have a solution for the following problem but it's quite ugly and it can most likely be done in a much shorter way. Would be great to get your help. My input looks like this: C1 C2 A B B D D C A D and my output should look like this: A B C D 1 1 0 0 0 1 0 1 0 0 1 1 1 0 0 1 My current solution is: index <- unique(unlist(input[,1:2])) output <- matrix(0,nrows=dim(input),ncols=length(index)) for(i in 1:dim(input)) { output[i, input[i,]$C1] <- 1 output[i, input[i,]$C2] <- 1 } Of course 4-5 lines is actually fine - but even as an R beginner this doesn't feel right to use a for loop. Besides that my actual data has much more than two columns, therefore this doesn't look nice in the end. How would I do that in a smarter way? Cheers

  I am trying to set up user generated sub domains for my PHP application. When I go to sub.domain.com and if I upload an index.html file it works fine, however if I use index.php it gives me a "Internal Server Error 500" message I have done the steps below to get subdomains working STEP 1: Edited my DNZ zone file and appended *.domain.com. IN A 91.111.111.111 STEP 2: Appended to httpd.conf the following: <VirtualHost 91.111.111.111:80> ServerName domain.com ServerAlias *.domain.com DocumentRoot /home/domain/public_html/sub <Directory "/home/domain/public_html/sub"> Options -Indexes Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride All </Directory> </VirtualHost> Step 3: Tested by uploading an index.html file to the document directory in step 2, and works fine. Tried with an index.php gives a internal server error and then I looked into Apache error log and shows error for a redirect loop more than 10 times Update: getting this error: No user or group set - set suPHP_UserGroup Any ideas why I can not use any .php file in the directory?

• C++ volatile required when spinning on boost::shared_ptr operator bool()?

  I have two threads referencing the same boost::shared_ptr: boost::shared_ptr<Widget> shared; On thread is spinning, waiting for the other thread to reset the boost::shared_ptr: while(shared) boost::thread::yield(); And at some point the other thread will call: shared.reset(); My question is whether or not I need to declare the shared pointer as volatile to prevent the compiler from optimizing the call to shared.operator bool() out of the loop and never detecting the change? I know that if I were simply looping on a variable, waiting for it to reach 0 I would need volatile, but I'm not sure if boost::shared_ptr is implemented in such a way that it is not necessary here.

• NSArray : release its objects, but keep a pointer to it.

  Hello, I declare an NSArray in my code then building the array from another array. I process my NSArray and when I'm finished, I would like to release the objects, but I'm reusing this pointer to NSAarray again later to do the same process (creating the array from another array, process then releasing).. So I need to keep the pointer. What should I do ? Here is roughly what I want to do, the buildArray is creating and returning an autoreleased NSArray : NSArray *myArray; for (int i = 0, i < 10, i++){ [myArray arrayWithArray:[self buildArray]]; // Here I process myArray [myArray = nil] // is my guess } I need to keep a pointer to my NSArray, in order to reuse later in the loop, but what is happening to the objects created with [self buildArray]? What is the best to do in order not to keep unused object and arrays ? Or maybe the best solution is simply to removeAllObject of the array..? Thank you!

• [AS 3.0] How to use the string.match method to find multiple occurrences of the same word in a strin

  In Actionscript and Adobe Flex, I'm using a pattern and regexp (with the global flag) with the string.match method and it works how I'd like except when the match returns multiple occurrences of the same word in the text. In that case, all the matches for that word point only to the index for the first occurrence of that word. For example, if the text is "cat dog cat cat cow" and the pattern is a search for cat*, the match method returns an array of three occurrences of "cat", however, they all point to only the index of the first occurrence of cat when i use indexOf on a loop through the array. I'm assuming this is just how the string.match method is (although please let me know if i'm doing something wrong or missing something!). I want to find the specific indices of every occurrence of a match, even if it is of a word that was already previously matched. I'm wondering if that is just how the string.match method is and if so, if anyone has any idea what the best way to do this would be. Thanks.

  I want to export in XML format some data from 7 tables (MySQL database), and then I want to import in another database. And I have a update or insert rule for data. I already have a SQL query retrieving all data, with JOINs on my 7 tables. But...when I try to put data in XML format, I reach a limit. My PHP loop can catch each row, but I would like to benefit from hierachical structure of the XML, and all I have are rows with the same data repeated. It is better to query once and to construct the XML tree in PHP or to query each time I want access to a lower level ?
