• Can't select database table even though the code is right

  I am trying to display a list of my vbulliten threads on a non-vbulliten portion of my site. However I can't select the vbulliten database: <?php $host = "localhost"; $user = "my username"; $pass = "my password"; $dbname = "tableprefix_forum"; mysql_connect($host, $user, $pass) or die ("Could not connect to database server."); mysql_select_db($dbname) or die ("Could not select database."); ?> I am substituting some things here in this example but all my credentials are correct including my db server username, password and forum db name. So what is the problem? Is it due to some internal security feature in vbulliten, does this system not allow you to connect to it's db if the page trying to connect to it is a non-vbulliten page?

• Network Communication program in python

  Hi all, Basically what I'm trying to achieve is a program which allow users to connect to a each other over a network in, essentially, a chat room. What I'm currently struggling with is writing the code so that the users can connect to each other without knowing the IP-address of the computer that the other users are using or knowing the IP-address of a server. Does anyone know of a way in which I could simply have all of the users scan the IP range of my network in order to find any active 'room' and then give the user a chance to connect to it? Also, the hope is that there will be no need for a central server to run this from, rather every user will simply be connected to all other user, essentially being the server and client at the same time.

• connecting to oracle database from c# asp.net mvc website

  I am trying to connect to oracle database. I am able to connect to it through a local SQL Developer tool by sticking something in the oranames.tns file. My question is that i will be deploying this website to a number of places. A few questions: What is the simplest way i can use to connect to this database and do very basic queries. I see some examples that have me referencing oracleclient dlls. Other methods not? Is there a best practice here? Am i going to have to update the oranames.tns file on everyone on of the machines that i deploy to ? is there any simpler way

• Ruby On Rails Routes

  I can't figure out how to get the following routes. Here's an extract from my routes.rb file: map.resources :treatments map.root :controller => "home" map.connect ':controller/:action/:id' map.connect ':controller/:action/:id.:format' map.connect ':action', :controller => 'home' # replaces the need to manually map pure actions to a default controller map.resources :bookings map.resource :dashboard map.resource :home Now I do realise that the ordering matters, but I can't seem to get them to work correctly. What I want is so http://localhost:3000/bookings/new actually takes you to an action http://localhost:3000/bookings/signmeup if you're either not signed in, or haven't got a login. The problem is that if I change my routes around, when I attempt to create a new booking after I have logged in, then it doesn't POST the form submission and just takes me back to the view page. This is definitely because of the routes as if I rearrange map.resources :bookings to be before all of them, then it works. Any ideas?

• alias not working on sql server 2008 r2

  I have several servers with SQL Server 2008 R2 instances on them, and alias doesn't work on any of them. Clients connect to these servers using TCP/IP without any problem, telnet works on IP/Port I use for my alias, the firewall exceptions are created, basically everything works fine, except when I create an alias, I can not connect through it to my server using either TCP/IP or named pipes (local or one of other servers). I've installed latest cumulative updates, which updates native client too (which I think is the source of problem) and I still have the problem. The stranger part is, if I create an alias on a server with sql server 2005 (native client 9), I can connect to my 2008 r2 instances. Any suggestions?

  We are using Sybase SQL Anywhere 11. We need to encrypt some of our tables in our database. I followed the instruction and did it. We selected the "strong" option with encryptionKey and AES256_FIPS algorithm. But there are something I am not clear about them. It will require encryptonKey when we create the database, remove the database and start the database server but it will NOT require encryptionKey when we stop the database server and connect to the server to create tables and add data. Why there is NO encryptionKey asked when we connect to it or try to stop the server? I am doing something wrong? don't know how to test the encryption? I still can see all plain text in the encrypted tables when I use Sybase Central tool. If somebody knows the database user name and password, he/she can connect to the database and read the content without the encryptionKey. is this right?

  I am coding an application for my company wherein i want to parse the results of a mysql query and display them in my application but i am facing a problem conecting to the database. the ip address of the server is : 172.30.192.20 and before i can ping it i have to add route on my pc something like this route add 172.30.192.0 mask 255.255.255.0 172.30.192.56 where 172.30.192.56 is the gateway Now whenever i try to connect 172.30.192.20 which is where the sql server is running my appplication instead connects to 172.30.192.56 i am coding the application in delphi and have used TmySQL After this didnt workout i tried an application called SQLwave. I just entered the server ip address and was able to connect to the database without any problems. it seems sqlwave uses mydac which is why even i tried using it but using the default connection options and setting i was still not able to connect. it seems sqlwave uses a custom connection using mydac i just want to know whats going wrong with my connection

  I've been searching google a lot for this issue and really found nothing. People just keep copying MySQL documentation on last_insert_id and nothing else. I've got an issue regarding last_insert_id, because for both situations (php & sql) it returns 0. YES: I've set a PRIMARY & UNIQUE field with AUTO_INCREMENT value YES: i've done some inserting before NO: Making double query with INSERT AND SELECT LAST... doesn't work. • Remmina remoteapp over RDP

  I was wondering how to use remmina to open applications on a Windows machine over rdp using remoteapp (or seamless or whatever it's actually called). I've already used Kim Knight's RemoteApp Tool to set up remoteapp on a Windows 7 machine and I can connect and run remote apps fine from another windows box. Allegedly FreeRDP (which Remmina uses for its RDP Plugin) has support for remoteapp. I'm not sure how to make use of it though. I can't find any examples of people actually doing this online but there is a launchpad bug about the clipboard not working in remote apps, from which I can infer that there is some way to run remote apps. I've tried many combinations of settings for Client, Startup Program and Startup Path in the Advanced tab when configuring an RDP connection in Remmina, but I can't make it work. I can connect to Windows boxes with RDP just fine, just not running a remoteapp.

  in the past I used to connect to my windows server from ubuntu with remmina (through rdp protocol). I've recently installed ubuntu gnome remix (12.10.1) and gnome-boxes and I'm wondering if I can do the same with gnome-boxes. I've tried creating a new item in gnome-boxes and entering as url "rdp://x.x.x.x" as I used to do in remmina bit it says that the rdp protocol is not supported. Unfortunatelly I cannot find any manual or documentation listing the supported protocol or giving instruction on how to connect to a remote desktop. Can someone help me please?

  I was running 11.10 and decided to do the full upgrade and come up to 12.04 after the update SSH (not SSHD) is now misbehaving when attempting to connect to other OpenSSH instances. I say OpenSSH as I am running a DropBear sshd on my router and I am able to connect to it. • Upgrading Team Foundation Server 2008 to 2010

  I am sure you will have seen my posts on upgrading our internal Team Foundation Server from TFS2008 to TFS2010 Beta 2, RC and RTM, but what about a fresh upgrade of TFS2008 to TFS2010 using the RTM version of TFS. One of our clients is taking the plunge with TFS2010, so I have the job of doing the upgrade. It is sometimes very useful to have a team member that starts work when most of the Sydney workers are heading home as I can do the upgrade without impacting them. The down side is that if you have any blockers then you can be pretty sure that everyone that can deal with your problem is asleep I am starting with an existing blank installation of TFS 2010, but Adam Cogan let slip that he was the one that did the install so I thought it prudent to make sure that it was OK. Verifying Team Foundation Server 2010 We need to check that TFS 2010 has been installed correctly. First, check the Admin console and have a root about for any errors. Figure: Even the SQL Setup looks good. I don’t know how Adam did it! Backing up the Team Foundation Server 2008 Databases As we are moving from one server to another (recommended method) we will be taking a backup of our TFS2008 databases and resorting them to the SQL Server for the new TFS2010 Server. Do not just detach and reattach. This will cause problems with the version of the database. If you are running a test migration you just need to create a backup of the TFS 2008 databases, but if you are doing the live migration then you should stop IIS on the TFS 2008 server before you backup the databases. This will stop any inadvertent check-ins or changes to TFS 2008. Figure: Stop IIS before you take a backup to prevent any TFS 2008 changes being written to the database. It is good to leave a little time between taking the TFS 2008 server offline and commencing the upgrade as there is always one developer who has not finished and starts screaming. This time it was John Liu that needed 10 more minutes to make his changes and check-in, so I always give it 30 minutes and see if anyone screams. There were no more screams so the upgrade can continue. Figure: Backup all of the databases for TFS and include the Reporting Services, just in case.   Figure: Check that all the backups have been taken Once you have your backups, you need to copy them to your new TFS2010 server and restore them. This is a good way to proceed as if we have any problems, or just plain run out of time, then you just turn the TFS 2008 server back on and all you have lost is one upgrade day, and not 10 developer days. As per the rules, you should record the number of files and the total number of areas and iterations before the upgrade so you have something to compare to: TFS2008 File count: Type Count 1 1845 2 15770 Areas & Iterations: 139 You can use this to verify that the upgrade was successful. it should however be noted that the numbers in TFS 2010 will be bigger. This is due to some of the sorting out that TFS does during the upgrade process. Restore Team Foundation Server 2008 Databases Restoring the databases is much more time consuming than just attaching them as you need to do them one at a time. But you may be taking a backup of an operational database and need to restore all your databases to a particular point in time instead of to the latest. I am doing latest unless I encounter any problems. Figure: Restore each of the databases to either a latest or specific point in time.     Figure: Restore all of the required databases Now that all of your databases are restored you now need to upgrade them to Team Foundation Server 2010. Upgrade Team Foundation Server 2008 Databases This is probably the easiest part of the process. You need to call a fire and forget command that will go off to the database specified, find the TFS 2008 databases and upgrade them to 2010. During this process all of the 6 main TFS 2008 databases are merged into the TfsVersionControl database, upgraded and then the database is renamed to TFS_[CollectionName]. The rename is only the database and not the physical files, so it is worth going back and renaming the physical file as well. This keeps everything neat and tidy. If you plan to keep the old TFS 2008 server around, for example if you are doing a test migration first, then you will need to change the TFS GUID. This GUID is unique to each TFS instance and is preserved when you upgrade. This GUID is used by the clients and they can get a little confused if there are two servers with the same one. To kick of the upgrade you need to open a command prompt and change the path to “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2010\Tools” and run the “import” command in  “tfsconfig”. TfsConfig import /sqlinstance:<Previous TFS Data Tier>                  /collectionName:<Collection Name>                  /confirmed Imports a TFS 2005 or 2008 data tier as a new project collection. Important: This command should only be executed after adequate backups have been performed. After you import, you will need to configure portal and reporting settings via the administration console. EXAMPLES -------- TfsConfig import /sqlinstance:tfs2008sql /collectionName:imported /confirmed TfsConfig import /sqlinstance:tfs2008sql\Instance /collectionName:imported /confirmed OPTIONS: -------- sqlinstance         The sql instance of the TFS 2005 or 2008 data tier. The TFS databases at that location will be modified directly and will no longer be usable as previous version databases.  Ensure you have back-ups. collectionName      The name of the new Team Project Collection. confirmed           Confirm that you have backed-up databases before importing. This command will automatically look for the TfsIntegration database and verify that all the other required databases exist. In this case it took around 5 minutes to complete the upgrade as the total database size was under 700MB. This was unlike the upgrade of SSW’s production database with over 17GB of data which took a few hours. At the end of the process you should get no errors and no warnings. The Upgrade operation on the ApplicationTier feature has completed. There were 0 errors and 0 warnings. As this is a new server and not a pure upgrade there should not be a problem with the GUID. If you think at any point you will be doing this more than once, for example doing a test migration, or merging many TFS 2008 instances into a single one, then you should go back and rename the physical TfsVersionControl.mdf file to the same as the new collection. This will avoid confusion later down the line. To do this, detach the new collection from the server and rename the physical files. Then reattach and change the physical file locations to match the new name. You can follow http://www.mssqltips.com/tip.asp?tip=1122 for a more detailed explanation of how to do this. Figure: Stop the collection so TFS does not take a wobbly when we detach the database. When you try to start the new collection again you will get a conflict with project names and will require to remove the Test Upgrade collection. This is fine and it just needs detached. • Broadband wireless drivers don't work

  I have a Dell Latitude E6520 which is a Ubuntu 12.04 certified hardware. However the driver assigned to the Dell Wireless 5630 (EVDO-HSPA) Mobile Broadband Mini-Card doesn't seem to work. When I boot in Windows 7 I connect to Verizon dialing *99# with no username or password but it won't connect using Ubuntu. The windows drivers are from Novatel Wireless Inc 1.0.0.6 if that helps. This is also an internal card not USB and the hardware Id is USB\VID_413C&PID_8194&REV_0002&MI_00 If anyone can help me with obtaining the correct driver or maybe some other way of getting it to work I would be very grateful. My job requires traveling and I need internet access but hate using Win7.

  Nearly each time I reboot my machine, the system panel and integrated app menus fail to load. At a terminal, when issuing 'unity --reset', I get the following errors: ...
