  I have a home network, and I'm trying to share a printer connected to one of the PCs. The wireless modem through which the internet comes through doesn't reach the entire house, so we have another router set up as well. The modem is 192.168.1.1 (let's call this A) and the router is set up as 192.168.1.100 (let's call this B). Subnet masks 255.255.255.0. The printer is hooked up to a PC on B. If my laptop is connected wirelessly to B, it can see the printer. However, if it's connected to A, it doesn't show up in My Network Places.   So I have a 70 page pdf document that I'm trying to condense to a small booklet. I tried creating a formula to manually to perform it but it got ugly fast. 35,36,34,37,17,54,16,55,33,38,32,39,15,56,14,57,31,40,30,41,13,58,12,59 29,42,28,43,11,60,10,61,27,44,26,45,9,62,8,63,25,46,24,47,7,64,6,65 23,48,22,49,5,66,4,67,21,50,20,51,3,68,2,69,19,52,18,53,1,70 Once I print the booklet I should be able to cut the sheets in half and set the bottom half behind the top and staple it for a simple book. Which means Page 1 should have pages 35,36,17,54,34,37,16,55 Page 2 should have pages 33,38,15,56,32,39,14,57 And several pages later Page 9 should have pages 19,52,1,70,18,53 But manually doing this is a headache and it seems like the booklet function should contain functionality that can perform this. • Unable to connect to sharedfax error

  I'm running SBS2k on a machine with a 56k modem for all outgoing faxes. We have a terminal server running server 2003 enterprise and in printers the sharedfax shows "unable to connect status". When you right-click, properties, it gives you an error saying the spool service is not running and you cannot view properties. The spooler service is indeed running on the 2k3 server because I can view the other printer's properties..and on 2k I show the Microsoft Shared Fax service AND Print Spooler as started. Here's the tricky part, I can add the shared fax printer on a domain computer locally (Windows XP) and it will show ready status and I can send faxes, they show up on the 2k server's fax console manager as in progress. I've sent a couple from a few different workstations today successfully, but still unable to send from 2k3 terminal services.

• Use Google Apps/Cloud Services as a Domain Controller Replacement

  This is a Canonical Question about Cloud Services replacing Active Directory. Is it possible to use Google Apps or another Cloud Service as a replacement for a Windows Domain Controller (replacing my whole AD infrastructure)? Specifically, I want to remove our dependence on a local Windows Server; currently it acts as a Domain Controller with File and Print Services. I'd like to seamlessly replace this server with something based on hosted applications. I do not just want to move the server to a dedicated or collocated server. I have yet to figure out how to piece together printer/etc sharing. If anyone has any insight into this, it would be appreciated. The goal is to eventually move all my servers to the cloud then write up a case study on the whole affair.

• Kill program after it outputs a given line, from a shell script

  Background: I am writing a test script for a piece of computational biology software. The software I am testing can take days or even weeks to run, so it has a recover functionality built in, in the case of system crashes or power failures. I am trying to figure out how to test the recovery system. Specifically, I can't figure out a way to "crash" the program in a controlled manner. I was thinking of somehow timing a SIGKILL instruction to run after some amount of time. This is probably not ideal, as the test case isn't guaranteed to run the same speed every time (it runs in a shared environment), so comparing the logs to desired output would be difficult. This software DOES print a line for each section of analysis it completes. Question: I was wondering if there was a good/elegant way (in a shell script) to capture output from a program and then kill the program when a given line/# of lines is output by the program?

  I use a lot word with in structure view. In that view it is not possible to see images (while it was possible in 2007). When I paste an image in structure view it automatically changes the view to Print Preview. Is this a limitation introduced in 2010? If not how to get rid of it? I tried to read all the options, but I didn't find a matching checkbox. NOTE FOR BOUNTY: I started a bounty because this problem is really annoying for me.   Is another question extended from the previous one [1] I have a compressed file and stream them to feed into a python program, e.g. bzcat data.bz2 | parallel --no-notice -j16 --pipe python parse.py > result.txt The parse.py can read from stdin continusuoly and print to stdout My ec2 instance is 16 cores but from the top command it is showing 3 to 4 load average only. From the ps, I am seeing a lot of stuffs like.. sh -c 'dd bs=1 count=1 of=/tmp/7D_YxccfY7.chr 2>/dev/null'; I know I can improve using the -a in.txtto improve performance, but with my case I am streaming from bz2 (I cannot exact it since I don't have enought disk space) How to improve the efficiency for my case?   When I print out the path in bash, it prints this: /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin When I run System.out.println(System.getenv("PATH")); in Java running under Eclipse, it prints /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin How can I figure out why there is this discrepancy? I need to add /usr/local/bin to the PATH and make it available to Java apps under Eclipse. (note: I have made no modifications system paths, so these are the defaults set by the OS or perhaps by one or more of the applications i've installed.)

• SSRS report font problem on deployed reports

  I have created several reports for my SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 SP2 server, using Visual Studio 2008 on my machine. The reports objects all use Arial as their font, in various sizes and weights. When I test them in VS, all looks fine, and I can print them and export them okay. When I deploy them to the server though, they look fine on-screen and if exported to PDF, but when printed directly from the web viewer, the fonts seem to go 'missing' - all the characters are squashed together as if there was a slight negative character-offset.

• TPM had to be reintialized: Does a new recovery password have to be uploaded to AD?

  Some way some how, a user's machine couldn't get read the bitlocker password off of the TPM chip, and I had to enter the recovery key (stored in AD) to get in. No big deal, but once in the machine, I tried to suspend bitlocker per recovery documentation, and got an error message about the TPM not being initialized. I knew the TPM was on and activated in the BIOS, but Windows still made me reinitialize the TPM chip, and in the process it created a new TPM owner password. I found that odd because it prompted me to save this password or print it (there wasn't an option not to), but it made no reference of a recovery password, nor did it back this password up to AD. After the user took her laptop and left I started thinking that if the TPM password change, does the recovery password change also? If so, that new recovery password will need to be uploaded to AD, but MS' documentation doesn't make that clear, and doesn't back up the new recovery key (if one exists) to AD automatically when the group policy says it must, and from a network standpoint AD is accessible.

• MSWord table shading prints too dark

  My friend has a very light shading in his MSWord tables. However they still print too dark to read the text. When emailed to a colleague using the same printer, it prints light nicely. However they cannot find any setting that is different between them. Any ideas? Thanks! (P.s. for myself this would help for non-tables also, when 'highlighting' text. I do know that 'shading' gives more colour options for non-tables, but it would be nice to know anyway. Thanks)

• Route gaming data over wireless and everything else through LAN?

  I have two internet connections available to me. One is via LAN.. not a great ping, but fast downloads. The other is via USB wireless adapter.. good ping, but slow downloads. I want to connect to both of them simultaneously. I want to be able to specify which data or application will use the wireless connection and route everything else through the lan connection. Is this possible, and how would I do it? Windows 7 x64 is my operating system. • Apache Bench length failures

  I am running Apache Bench against a Ruby on Rails XML-RPC web service that is running on Passenger via mod_passenger. All is fine when I run 1000 requests without concurrency. Bench indicates that all requests successfully complete with no failures. When I run Bench again with a concurrency level of 2, however, requests start to fail due to content length. I am seeing failures rates of 70-80% when using concurrency. This should not happen. The requests I am sending to the web service should always results in the same response. I have used cURL to verify that this is in fact the case. My Rails log is not showing any errors as well so I am curious to see what content Bench actually received and interpreted as a failure. Is there any way to print these failures?

  I want to get the current date and time according to a remote NTP server, using Linux. I don't want to change the local time as a result; I just want to get the remote date, adjusted for the local time zone, printed out. It needs to be formatted in an easily-readable or interpretable way (standard date format, or seconds since epoch). What I've Tried: I can call ntpdate -q my.ntp.server and get the offset between the local time and the server's time, but that doesn't return the date according to the NTP server; it just returns the offset and the local date. Is there some easy way/command I can use to say: "Print out the date according to a given NTP server, adjusted for my current timezone"?

• Dump vim screen into a file

  I need to dump whatever is seen on the vim screen as it is, with colors and everything. Is there a way do to id. I am hoping that ncurses uses the same escape sequence for colors as bash. So when I'll do cat on the file that I've dumped the screen to, I should get the same output as the vim file. I want to use it in the scenario when I am doing a side by side colorful diff of files and need to print them.
