  • jQuery autocomplete not always working on elements

    - by PoweRoy
    I'm trying to create a greasemonkey script (for Opera) to add autocomplete to input elements found on a webpage but it's not completely working. I first got the autocomplete plugin working: // ==UserScript== // @name autocomplete // @description autocomplete // @include * // ==/UserScript== // Add jQuery var GM_JQ = document.createElement('script'); GM_JQ.src = 'http://jquery.com/src/jquery-latest.js'; GM_JQ.type = 'text/javascript'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_JQ); var GM_CSS = document.createElement('link'); GM_CSS.rel = 'stylesheet'; GM_CSS.href = 'http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/plugins/autocomplete/jquery.autocomplete.css'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_CSS); var GM_JQ_autocomplete = document.createElement('script'); GM_JQ_autocomplete.type = 'text/javascript'; GM_JQ_autocomplete.src = 'http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/plugins/autocomplete/jquery.autocomplete.js'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_JQ_autocomplete); // Check if jQuery's loaded function GM_wait() { if(typeof window.jQuery == 'undefined') { window.setTimeout(GM_wait,100); } else { $ = window.jQuery; letsJQuery(); } } GM_wait(); function letsJQuery() { $("input[type='text']").each(function(index) { $(this).val("test autocomplete"); }); $("input[type='text']").autocomplete("http://mysite/jquery_autocomplete.php", { dataType: 'jsonp', parse: function(data) { var rows = new Array(); for(var i=0; i<data.length; i++){ rows[i] = { data:data[i], value:data[i], result:data[i] }; } return rows; }, formatItem: function(row, position, length) { return row; }, }); } I see the 'test autocomplete' but using the Opera debugger(firefly) I don't see any communication to my php page. (yes mysite is fictional, but it works here) Trying it on my own page: <body> no autocomplete: <input type="text" name="q1" id="script_1"><br> autocomplete on: <input type="text" name="q2" id="script_2" autocomplete="on"><br> autocomplete off: <input type="text" name="q3" id="script_3" autocomplete="off"><br> autocomplete off: <input type="text" name="q4" id="script_4" autocomplete="off"><br> </body> This works, but when trying on another pages it sometimes won't: e.g. http://spitsnieuws.nl/ works but http://nu.nl and http://dumpert.nl don't work. Trying the autocomplete of jquery ui has more problems: // ==UserScript== // @name autocomplete // @description autocomplete // @include * // ==/UserScript== // Add jQuery var GM_JQ = document.createElement('script'); GM_JQ.src = 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4/jquery.min.js'; GM_JQ.type = 'text/javascript'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_JQ); var GM_CSS = document.createElement('link'); GM_CSS.rel = 'stylesheet'; GM_CSS.href = 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8/themes/base/jquery-ui.css'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_CSS); var GM_JQ_autocomplete = document.createElement('script'); GM_JQ_autocomplete.type = 'text/javascript'; GM_JQ_autocomplete.src = 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8/jquery-ui.min.js'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(GM_JQ_autocomplete); // Check if jQuery's loaded function GM_wait() { if(typeof window.jQuery == 'undefined') { window.setTimeout(GM_wait,100); } else { $ = window.jQuery; letsJQuery(); } } GM_wait(); // All your GM code must be inside this function function letsJQuery() { $("input[type='text']").each(function(index) { $(this).val("test autocomplete"); }); $("input[type='text']").autocomplete({ source: function(request, response) { $.ajax({ url: "http://mysite/jquery_autocomplete.php", dataType: "jsonp", success: function(data) { response($.map(data, function(item) { return { label: item, value: item } })) } }) } }); } This will work on my html page, http://spitsnieuws.nl and http://dumpert.nl but not on http://nu.nl. (dumpert didn't work on the plugin autocomplete) //http://spitsnieuws.nl <input class="frmtxt ac_input" type="text" id="zktxt" name="query" autocomplete="off"> //http://dumpert.nl <input type="text" name="srchtxt" id="srchtxt"> //http://nu.nl <input id="zoekfield" name="q" type="text" value="Zoek nieuws" onfocus="this.select()" type="text"> Anyone know why the autocomplete functionality doesn't work? Why the request to the php page is not being made? And why I can't add my autocomplete to google.com?

  • Why is the class wrong for NSFetchRequest?

    - by Stephen Furlani
Hello, I am working with an undocumented API (Osirix) and I have a sister-question to the one I posted here. I am having trouble loading objects from a managed object context. With loading from API, using their instance of _context and _model 2010-05-28 14:05:13.588 OsiriX[44012:a0f] Entity: Study 2010-05-28 14:05:13.589 OsiriX[44012:a0f] EntityClassName: DicomStudy 2010-05-28 14:05:13.589 OsiriX[44012:a0f] ClassName: DicomStudy With loading from Fetch Request (and my own instance of _context, and _model) 2010-05-28 14:19:09.956 rcOsirix[44431:7a03] Entity: Study 2010-05-28 14:19:09.957 rcOsirix[44431:7a03] EntityClassName: DicomStudy 2010-05-28 14:19:09.958 rcOsirix[44431:7a03] ClassName: NSManagedObject output given by: NSLog(@"Entity: %@",[[item entity] name]); NSLog(@"EntityClassName: %@", [[item entity] managedObjectClassName]); NSLog(@"ClassName: %s", class_getName(object_getClass([item class]))); So it is obvious that even though the Entity thinks it is a DicomSeries - it is not. It is just a NSManagedObject. DicomSeries has some "hard-coded" KVC stuff that I ran into a problem with in my other question. I'm pursuing a different line of reasoning in this thread - with the loading of the objects. The following is their code: - (NSManagedObjectModel *)managedObjectModel { if (managedObjectModel) return managedObjectModel; NSMutableSet *allBundles = [[NSMutableSet alloc] init]; [allBundles addObject: [NSBundle mainBundle]]; [allBundles addObjectsFromArray: [NSBundle allFrameworks]]; managedObjectModel = [[NSManagedObjectModel alloc] initWithContentsOfURL: [NSURL fileURLWithPath: [[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath] stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"/OsiriXDB_DataModel.mom"]]]; [allBundles release]; return managedObjectModel; } - (NSManagedObjectContext *) managedObjectContextLoadIfNecessary:(BOOL) loadIfNecessary { NSError *error = nil; NSString *localizedDescription; NSFileManager *fileManager; if( currentDatabasePath == nil) return nil; if (managedObjectContext) return managedObjectContext; if( loadIfNecessary == NO) return nil; fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; [persistentStoreCoordinator release]; persistentStoreCoordinator = [[NSPersistentStoreCoordinator alloc] initWithManagedObjectModel: self.managedObjectModel]; managedObjectContext = [[NSManagedObjectContext alloc] init]; [managedObjectContext setPersistentStoreCoordinator: persistentStoreCoordinator]; NSURL *url = [NSURL fileURLWithPath: currentDatabasePath]; if (![persistentStoreCoordinator addPersistentStoreWithType:NSSQLiteStoreType configuration:nil URL:url options:nil error:&error]) { NSLog(@"********** managedObjectContextLoadIfNecessary FAILED: %@", error); localizedDescription = [error localizedDescription]; error = [NSError errorWithDomain:@"OsiriXDomain" code:0 userInfo:[NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys:error, NSUnderlyingErrorKey, [NSString stringWithFormat:@"Store Configuration Failure: %@", ((localizedDescription != nil) ? localizedDescription : @"Unknown Error")], NSLocalizedDescriptionKey, nil]]; } [[managedObjectContext undoManager] setLevelsOfUndo: 1]; [[managedObjectContext undoManager] disableUndoRegistration]; // This line is very important, if there is NO database.sql file [self saveDatabase: currentDatabasePath]; return managedObjectContext; } This is my code: NSManagedObjectModel* DataModule::managedObjectModel() { if (_managedObjectModel) return _managedObjectModel; NSMutableSet *allBundles = [[NSMutableSet alloc] init]; [allBundles addObject: [NSBundle mainBundle]]; [allBundles addObjectsFromArray: [NSBundle allFrameworks]]; _managedObjectModel = [[NSManagedObjectModel alloc] initWithContentsOfURL: [NSURL fileURLWithPath: [[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath] stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"/OsiriXDB_DataModel.mom"]]]; [allBundles release]; return [_managedObjectModel retain]; } ... NSError *error = nil; [_storeCoordinator release]; _storeCoordinator = [[NSPersistentStoreCoordinator alloc] initWithManagedObjectModel: managedObjectModel()]; _context = [[NSManagedObjectContext alloc] init]; [_context setPersistentStoreCoordinator: _storeCoordinator]; NSURL *url = [NSURL fileURLWithPath: [[NSString alloc] initWithCString:_DBPath.c_str()]]; if (url == nil) { [pool release]; _loadLock = false; return nil; } if (![_storeCoordinator addPersistentStoreWithType:NSSQLiteStoreType configuration:nil URL:url options:nil error:&error]) { NSLog(@"********** managedObjectContextLoadIfNecessary FAILED: %@", error); NSString *localizedDescription = [error localizedDescription]; error = [NSError errorWithDomain:@"OsiriXDomain" code:0 userInfo:[NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys:error, NSUnderlyingErrorKey, [NSString stringWithFormat:@"Store Configuration Failure: %@", ((localizedDescription != nil) ? localizedDescription : @"Unknown Error")], NSLocalizedDescriptionKey, nil]]; //Exit Failure [pool release]; _loadLock = false; return nil; } [[_context undoManager] setLevelsOfUndo: 1]; [[_context undoManager] disableUndoRegistration]; ... I am including all the same frameworks.... but _allBundles isn't even used to create the managedObjectModel so I don't know what it's supposed to do except load them into memory so that the mom can look at them while loading. Totally lost. Help! Why would objects returned by my FetchRequest with the same Entity come out as NSManagedObjects and not DicomStudys? I'm including DicomStudy.h so it should see the object during creation of the model, context, and fetch request. [request setEntity: [[managedObjectModel() entitiesByName] objectForKey:@"Study"]]; Thanks in advance, -Stephen

  • Setting marker title in Google Maps API 3 using jQuery

    - by bateman_ap
Hi, I am having a couple of problems with Google Maps and jQuery. Wondered if anyone can help with the smaller of the two problems and hopefully it will help me to fixing the bigger one. I am using the below code to populate a google map, basically it uses generated HTML to populate the maps in the form: <div class="item mapSearch" id="map52.48228_-1.9026:800"> <div class="box-prise"><p>(0.62km away)</p><div class="btn-book-now"> <a href="/venue/800.htm">BOOK NOW</a> </div> </div><img src="http://media.toptable.com/images/thumb/13152.jpg" alt="Metro Bar and Grill" width="60" height="60" /> <div class="info"> <h2><a href="/venue/800.htm">Metro Bar and Grill</a></h2> <p class="address">73 Cornwall Street, Birmingham, B3 2DF</p><strong class="proposal">2 courses £14.50</strong> <dl> <dt>Diner Rating: </dt> <dd>7.8</dd> </dl></div></div> <div class="item mapSearch" id="map52.4754_-1.8999:3195"> <div class="box-prise"><p>(0.97km away)</p><div class="btn-book-now"> <a href="/venue/3195.htm">BOOK NOW</a> </div> </div><img src="http://media.toptable.com/images/thumb/34998.jpg" alt="Filini Restaurant - Birmingham" width="60" height="60" /> <div class="info"> <h2><a href="/venue/3195.htm">Filini Restaurant - Birmingham</a></h2> <p class="address">Radisson Blu Hotel, 12 Holloway Circus, Queensway, Birmingham, B1 1BT</p><strong class="proposal">2 for 1: main courses </strong> <dl> <dt>Diner Rating: </dt> <dd>7.8</dd> </dl></div></div> <div class="item mapSearch" id="map52.47775_-1.90619:10657"> <div class="box-prise"><p>(1.05km away)</p><div class="btn-book-now"> <a href="/venue/10657.htm">BOOK NOW</a> </div> </div><img src="http://media.toptable.com/images/thumb/34963.jpg" alt="B1 " width="60" height="60" /> <div class="info"> <h2><a href="/venue/10657.htm">B1 </a></h2> <p class="address">Central Square , Birmingham, B1 1HH</p><strong class="proposal">25% off food</strong> <dl> <dt>Diner Rating: </dt> <dd>7.9</dd> </dl></div></div> The JavaScript loops though all the divs with class mapSearch and uses this to plot markers using the div ID to get the lat/lon and ID of the venue: var locations = $(".mapSearch"); for (var i=0;i<locations.length;i++) { var id = locations[i].id; if (id) { var jsLonLat = id.substring(3).split(":")[0]; var jsId = id.substring(3).split(":")[1]; var jsLat = jsLonLat.split("_")[0]; var jsLon = jsLonLat.split("_")[1]; var jsName = $("h2").text(); var jsAddress = $("p.address").text(); var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(jsLat,jsLon); var marker = new google.maps.Marker({ position: latlng, map:map, icon: greenRestaurantImage, title: jsName }); google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'click', function() { //Check to see if info window already exists if (!infowindow) { //if doesn't exist then create a empty InfoWindow object infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow(); } //Set the content of InfoWindow infowindow.setContent(jsAddress); //Tie the InfoWindow to the market infowindow.open(map, marker); }); bounds.extend(latlng); map.fitBounds(bounds); } } The markers all plot OK on the map, however I am having probs with the infoWindow bit. I want to display info about each venue when clicked, however using my code above it just puts all info in one box when clicked, not individually. Hoping it is a simple fix! Hoping once I fix this I can work out a way to get the info window displaying if I hover over the div in the html.

  • pass an ID with hyperlik but cant get this ID value from a fk in one table when i click in insert

    - by susan
    Something strange happened in my codes, actually I have a hyperlink that pass ID value in a query string to second page.in second page i have 2 sql datasource that both these sql datasources should get this id value and pass it to a filter parameter to show sth in datalist. so in another word I have a first page that has an hyperlink read ID value from a datasource and pass it to second page.its like below: <asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink1" runat="server" NavigateUrl='<%# "~/forumpage.aspx?ID="+Eval("ID")%>'><%#Eval("title")%> </asp:HyperLink> then in second page i have one sql datasource with a query like this ...where ID=@id and get this id in query string from db.it work great . but i have problem with second sql datasource in second page it has a query sth like below:...forms.question_id=@id then in sql reference both to query string as ID that get by first page in hyperlink. but when i click in insert button show me error with fk. error:Error:The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_forumreply_forumquestions". The conflict occurred in database "forum", table "dbo.forumquestions", column 'ID'. The statement has been terminated. my tables (question(ID,user_id(fk),Cat_id(fk),title,bodytext) (reply(ID,userr_id(fk),questionn_id(fk),titlereply,bodytestreply); When by hand in cb i gave a number in questionn_id like 1 it show me successful but when it want read from a filter by datasource this field face with problem. plzzzz help i really need skip from this part.and cause i am new i guess I cant understand the logic way clearly. <asp:SqlDataSource ID="sdsreply" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:forumConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT forumreply.ID, forumreply.userr_id, forumreply.questionn_id, forumreply.bodytextreply, forumreply.datetimereply, forumquestions.ID AS Expr1, forumusers.ID AS Expr2, forumusers.username FROM forumquestions INNER JOIN forumreply ON forumquestions.ID = forumreply.questionn_id INNER JOIN forumusers ON forumquestions.user_id = forumusers.ID AND forumreply.userr_id = forumusers.ID where forumreply.questionn_id=@questionn_id"> <SelectParameters> <asp:QueryStringParameter Name="questionn_id" QueryStringField="ID" /> </SelectParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource> it is cb for second page in insert button: { if (Session["userid"] != null) { lblreply.Text = Session["userid"].ToString(); } else { Session["userid"]=null; } if (HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated) { lblshow.Text = string.Empty; string d = HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name; lblshow.Text =d + "???? ??? ?????." ; foreach (DataListItem item in DataList2.Items) { Label questionn_idLabel = (Label)item.FindControl("questionn_idLabel"); Label userr_idLabel = (Label)item.FindControl("userr_idLabel"); lbltest.Text = string.Empty; lbltest.Text = questionn_idLabel.Text; lblreply.Text = string.Empty; lblreply.Text = userr_idLabel.Text; } } else { lblshow.Text = "??? ??? ??? ??? ?? ?? ?????? ???? ???? ???? ????? ??? ??? ? ??? ????? ???????."; } } { if(HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated) { if (Page.IsValid) { SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["forumConnectionString"].ConnectionString); try { con.Open(); SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("insert into forumreply (userr_id,questionn_id,bodytextreply,datetimereply)values(@userr_id,@questionn_id,@bodytextreply,@datetimereply)", con); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("userr_id",lblreply.Text); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("questionn_id",lbltest.Text); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("bodytextreply",txtbody.Text); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("datetimereply",DateTime.Now ); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); } catch (Exception exp) { Response.Write("<b>Error:</b>"); Response.Write(exp.Message); } finally { con.Close(); } lblmsg.Text = "???? ??? ?? ?????? ??? ?????.thx"; lblshow.Visible = false; //lbltxt.Text = txtbody.Text; txtbody.Text = string.Empty; } } else { lblmsg.Text = string.Empty; Session["rem"] = Request.UrlReferrer.AbsoluteUri; Response.Redirect("~/login.aspx"); } }

  • Watching setTimeout loops so that only one is running at a time.

    - by DA
I'm creating a content rotator in jQuery. 5 items total. Item 1 fades in, pauses 10 seconds, fades out, then item 2 fades in. Repeat. Simple enough. Using setTimeout I can call a set of functions that create a loop and will repeat the process indefinitely. I now want to add the ability to interrupt this rotator at any time by clicking on a navigation element to jump directly to one of the content items. I originally started going down the path of pinging a variable constantly (say every half second) that would check to see if a navigation element was clicked and, if so, abandon the loop, then restart the loop based on the item that was clicked. The challenge I ran into was how to actually ping a variable via a timer. The solution is to dive into JavaScript closures...which are a little over my head but definitely something I need to delve into more. However, in the process of that, I came up with an alternative option that actually seems to be better performance-wise (theoretically, at least). I have a sample running here: http://jsbin.com/uxupi/14 (It's using console.log so have fireBug running) Sample script: $(document).ready(function(){ var loopCount = 0; $('p#hello').click(function(){ loopCount++; doThatThing(loopCount); }) function doThatOtherThing(currentLoopCount) { console.log('doThatOtherThing-'+currentLoopCount); if(currentLoopCount==loopCount){ setTimeout(function(){doThatThing(currentLoopCount)},5000) } } function doThatThing(currentLoopCount) { console.log('doThatThing-'+currentLoopCount); if(currentLoopCount==loopCount){ setTimeout(function(){doThatOtherThing(currentLoopCount)},5000); } } }) The logic being that every click of the trigger element will kick off the loop passing into itself a variable equal to the current value of the global variable. That variable gets passed back and forth between the functions in the loop. Each click of the trigger also increments the global variable so that subsequent calls of the loop have a unique local variable. Then, within the loop, before the next step of each loop is called, it checks to see if the variable it has still matches the global variable. If not, it knows that a new loop has already been activated so it just ends the existing loop. Thoughts on this? Valid solution? Better options? Caveats? Dangers? UPDATE: I'm using John's suggestion below via the clearTimeout option. However, I can't quite get it to work. The logic is as such: var slideNumber = 0; var timeout = null; function startLoop(slideNumber) { ...do stuff here to set up the slide based on slideNumber... slideFadeIn() } function continueCheck(){ if (timeout != null) { // cancel the scheduled task. clearTimeout(timeout); timeout = null; return false; }else{ return true; } }; function slideFadeIn() { if (continueCheck){ // a new loop hasn't been called yet so proceed... // fade in the LI $currentListItem.fadeIn(fade, function() { if(multipleFeatures){ timeout = setTimeout(slideFadeOut,display); } }); }; function slideFadeOut() { if (continueLoop){ // a new loop hasn't been called yet so proceed... slideNumber=slideNumber+1; if(slideNumber==features.length) { slideNumber = 0; }; timeout = setTimeout(function(){startLoop(slideNumber)},100); }; startLoop(slideNumber); The above kicks of the looping. I then have navigation items that, when clicked, I want the above loop to stop, then restart with a new beginning slide: $(myNav).click(function(){ clearTimeout(timeout); timeout = null; startLoop(thisItem); }) If I comment out 'startLoop...' from the click event, it, indeed, stops the initial loop. However, if I leave that last line in, it doesn't actually stop the initial loop. Why? What happens is that both loops seem to run in parallel for a period. So, when I click my navigation, clearTimeout is called, which clears it.

I need to import a zipped csv into a mongo collection, but there is a catch - every record contains a timestamp in Pacific Time, which must be converted to the local time corresponding to the (longitude, latitude) pair found in the same record. The code looks like so: def read_csv_zip(path, timezones): with ZipFile(path) as z, z.open(z.namelist()[0]) as input: csv_rows = csv.reader(input) header = csv_rows.next() check, converters = get_aux_stuff(header) for csv_row in csv_rows: if check(csv_row): row = { converter[0]:converter[1](value) for converter, value in zip(converters, csv_row) if allow_field(converter) } ts = row['ts'] lng, lat = row['loc'] found_tz_entry = timezones.find_one(SON({'loc': {'$within': {'$box': [[lng-tz_lookup_radius, lat-tz_lookup_radius],[lng+tz_lookup_radius, lat+tz_lookup_radius]]}}})) if found_tz_entry: tz_name = found_tz_entry['tz'] local_ts = ts.astimezone(timezone(tz_name)).replace(tzinfo=None) row['tz'] = tz_name else: local_ts = (ts.astimezone(utc) + timedelta(hours = int(lng/15))).replace(tzinfo = None) row['local_ts'] = local_ts yield row def insert_documents(collection, source, batch_size): while True: items = list(itertools.islice(source, batch_size)) if len(items) == 0: break; try: collection.insert(items) except: for item in items: try: collection.insert(item) except Exception as exc: print("Failed to insert record {0} - {1}".format(item['_id'], exc)) def main(zip_path): with Connection() as connection: data = connection.mydb.data timezones = connection.timezones.data insert_documents(data, read_csv_zip(zip_path, timezones), 1000) The code proceeds as follows: Every record read from the csv is checked and converted to a dictionary, where some fields may be skipped, some titles be renamed (from those appearing in the csv header), some values may be converted (to datetime, to integers, to floats. etc ...) For each record read from the csv, a lookup is made into the timezones collection to map the record location to the respective time zone. If the mapping is successful - that timezone is used to convert the record timestamp (pacific time) to the respective local timestamp. If no mapping is found - a rough approximation is calculated. The timezones collection is appropriately indexed, of course - calling explain() confirms it. The process is slow. Naturally, having to query the timezones collection for every record kills the performance. I am looking for advises on how to improve it. Thanks. EDIT The timezones collection contains 8176040 records, each containing four values: > db.data.findOne() { "_id" : 3038814, "loc" : [ 1.48333, 42.5 ], "tz" : "Europe/Andorra" } EDIT2 OK, I have compiled a release build of http://toblerity.github.com/rtree/ and configured the rtree package. Then I have created an rtree dat/idx pair of files corresponding to my timezones collection. So, instead of calling collection.find_one I call index.intersection. Surprisingly, not only there is no improvement, but it works even more slowly now! May be rtree could be fine tuned to load the entire dat/idx pair into RAM (704M), but I do not know how to do it. Until then, it is not an alternative. In general, I think the solution should involve parallelization of the task. • Reading data from database and binding them to custom ListView

    - by N.K.
I try to read data from a database i have made and to show some of the data in a row at a custom ListView. I can not understand what is my mistake. This is my code: public class EsodaMainActivity extends Activity { public static final String ROW_ID = "row_id"; //Intent extra key private ListView esodaListView; // the ListActivitys ListView private SimpleCursorAdapter esodaAdapter; // adapter for ListView DatabaseConnector databaseConnector = new DatabaseConnector(EsodaMainActivity.this); // called when the activity is first created @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.activity_esoda_main); esodaListView = (ListView)findViewById(R.id.esodaList); esodaListView.setOnItemClickListener(viewEsodaListener); databaseConnector.open(); //Cursor cursor= databaseConnector.query("esoda", new String[] // {"name", "amount"}, null, null, null); Cursor cursor=databaseConnector.getAllEsoda(); startManagingCursor(cursor); // map each esoda to a TextView in the ListView layout // The desired columns to be bound String[] from = new String[] {"name","amount"}; // built an String array named "from" //The XML defined views which the data will be bound to int[] to = new int[] { R.id.esodaTextView, R.id.amountTextView}; // built an int array named "to" // EsodaMainActivity.this = The context in which the ListView is running // R.layout.esoda_list_item = Id of the layout that is used to display each item in ListView // null = // from = String array containing the column names to display // to = Int array containing the column names to display esodaAdapter = new SimpleCursorAdapter (this, R.layout.esoda_list_item, cursor, from, to); esodaListView.setAdapter(esodaAdapter); // set esodaView's adapter } // end of onCreate method @Override protected void onResume() { super.onResume(); // call super's onResume method // create new GetEsodaTask and execute it // GetEsodaTask is an AsyncTask object new GetEsodaTask().execute((Object[]) null); } // end of onResume method // onStop method is executed when the Activity is no longer visible to the user @Override protected void onStop() { Cursor cursor= esodaAdapter.getCursor(); // gets current cursor from esodaAdapter if (cursor != null) cursor.deactivate(); // deactivate cursor esodaAdapter.changeCursor(null); // adapter now has no cursor (removes the cursor from the CursorAdapter) super.onStop(); } // end of onStop method // this class performs db query outside the GUI private class GetEsodaTask extends AsyncTask<Object, Object, Cursor> { // we create a new DatabaseConnector obj // EsodaMainActivity.this = Context DatabaseConnector databaseConnector = new DatabaseConnector(EsodaMainActivity.this); // perform the db access @Override protected Cursor doInBackground(Object... params) { databaseConnector.open(); // get a cursor containing call esoda return databaseConnector.getAllEsoda(); // the cursor returned by getAllContacts() is passed to method onPostExecute() } // end of doInBackground method // here we use the cursor returned from the doInBackground() method @Override protected void onPostExecute(Cursor result) { esodaAdapter.changeCursor(result); // set the adapter's Cursor databaseConnector.close(); } // end of onPostExecute() method } // end of GetEsodaTask class // creates the Activity's menu from a menu resource XML file @Override public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { super.onCreateOptionsMenu(menu); MenuInflater inflater = getMenuInflater(); inflater.inflate(R.menu.esoda_menu, menu); // inflates(eµf?s?) esodamainactivity_menu.xml to the Options menu return true; } // end of onCreateOptionsMenu() method //handles choice from options menu - is executed when the user touches a MenuItem @Override public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) { // creates a new Intent to launch the AddEditEsoda Activity // EsodaMainActivity.this = Context from which the Activity will be launched // AddEditEsoda.class = target Activity Intent addNewEsoda = new Intent(EsodaMainActivity.this, AddEditEsoda.class); startActivity(addNewEsoda); return super.onOptionsItemSelected(item); } // end of method onPtionsItemSelected() // event listener that responds to the user touching a esoda's name in the ListView OnItemClickListener viewEsodaListener = new OnItemClickListener() { @Override public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> arg0, View arg1, int arg2, long arg3) { // create an intent to launch the ViewEsoda Activity Intent viewEsoda = new Intent(EsodaMainActivity.this, ViewEsoda.class); // pass the selected esoda's row ID as an extra with the Intent viewEsoda.putExtra(ROW_ID, arg3); startActivity(viewEsoda); // start viewEsoda.class Activity } // end of onItemClick() method }; // end of viewEsodaListener } // end of EsodaMainActivity class The statement: Cursor cursor=databaseConnector.getAllEsoda(); queries all data (columns) From the data I want to show at my custom ListView 2 of them: "name" and "amount". But I still get a debugger error. Please help.

  • How to obtain listview information without refreshing the page?

    - by user1808098
I am currently developing an Android Application for my Final Year Project. But to be honest I do not have any basic knowledges and everything started from scratch and referring to online tutorials a lot. Here is my question, I was trying to retrieve data from listview activity. There are two listview in my page using button. I was able to display the first listview but when it get data for the second listview, the data for first listview is disappeared because the page is refreshed, vice versa. What code should I modified to get both the data in the page? (Database not implemented yet) Please help, thanks a lot. Below are my codings. startActivity(i); } } ); Button SelectedView = (Button) findViewById(R.id.inputListView); Intent i = getIntent(); // getting attached intent data String product = i.getStringExtra("product"); // displaying selected product name SelectedView.setText(product); Button ListView2Screen = (Button) findViewById(R.id.inputListView2); //Listening to Button ListView2Screen.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { //Switching to ListView Screen Intent j = new Intent(getApplicationContext(), ListView2Activity.class); startActivity(j); } } ); Button SelectedView2 = (Button) findViewById(R.id.inputListView2); Intent j = getIntent(); // getting attached intent data String product2 = j.getStringExtra("product2"); // displaying selected product name SelectedView2.setText(product2); TextView Logout = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.linkLogout); // Listening to Log out Logout.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View arg0) { // Closing menu screen // Switching to Login Screen/closing register screen finish(); } }); } } Coding for listview class public class ListViewActivity extends ListActivity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); // storing string resources into Array String[] traffic_condition = getResources().getStringArray(R.array.traffic_condition); // Binding resources Array to ListAdapter this.setListAdapter(new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.listitem, R.id.listViewLayout, traffic_condition)); ListView lv = getListView(); // listening to single list item on click lv.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() { public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) { // selected item String product = ((TextView) view).getText().toString(); // Launching new Activity on selecting single List Item Intent i = new Intent(getApplicationContext(), CheckinActivity.class); // sending data to new activity i.putExtra("product", product); startActivity(i); } }); } } Hope I made myself clear, I can provide a screen shot of my apps if it is required, thanks!

  • Nested <a> and <span> challenge

    - by PaddyO
    Hi all, Trying in vain to get a nested link working within a nested span. This is a working test page for the code below to explain what I'm trying to do. Any ideas on how to get this working in valid html? I guess it's either a nesting order or style syntax thing but I am at a loss. Any thoughts much appreciated. <div id="greyback"> <ul id="scrollbox"> <li class="listcat">List header</li> <li><a class="menu" href="#freeze">List item 1<span><b>This text has popped up because you have clicked the list item, which has an "a" tag and now has :focus. That "a" tag is the first of two.</b><br><br>What I am trying to do is to set the second "a" tag as a DIFFERENT "embedded" link in this box<span style="color: blue; background-color: yellow;">eg, here<a href="http://www.conservationenterprises.com" target="blank">This is the second (nested) "a" tag in this html nest. It is a link to an external site. Instead of this being an always-visible link, I want it to sit within the yellow box in the first span (click the List item 1 to display).</a></span> </a></span> </li> </a></span> </li> </ul> </div> and the CSS: #scrollbox {margin: 0 auto; margin-top: 1em; margin-bottom: 1em; width:19em; height:auto; max-height: 21em; overflow:auto; border-bottom: 0.1em solid #FFA500; border-top: 0.1em solid #FFA500;} #scrollbox a {float: left; color:#000000; text-decoration:none; width:18em; height: auto; margin-bottom: 0.5em; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 0.9em; text-align:left;} #scrollbox a.menu {} #scrollbox a span {display:none; position:absolute; left:0em; top:0;} #scrollbox a span img {float: right; border:0; max-width:7.5em;} #scrollbox a:hover {border: 0; color: #7ebb11; font-size:0.9em;} #scrollbox a:hover span {border: 0; color: #535353;} #scrollbox a span:focus {color: blue;} #scrollbox a:active {border:none; color: #535353; text-decoration: none;} #scrollbox a:focus {border:0em solid #000; outline:0;} #scrollbox a:active span, #scrollbox li a:active span, #scrollbox a:focus span, #scrollbox li a:focus span {display: block; width: 52.5em; min-height: 20em; height: auto; left: 1.5em; top:18em; z-index:10; font-size:0.9em; text-align: left; padding: 1em; padding-bottom: 0em; background-color: #c3FFe3; color: #535353; border: solid #FFA500 0.25em;} #scrollbox li a:active span span, #scrollbox li a:focus span span{display: block; width: auto; height: auto; min-height: 2em; left: 25em; top:10em; z-index:10; font-size:0.9em; text-align: left; padding: 1em; padding-bottom: 0em; background-color: transparent; color: #535353; border: dashed red 1px;} .ul#scrollbox {padding-left: 0.1em;} #scrollbox li {float:left; list-style: none; background: url(blank.png) no-repeat left center; margin-left: 0em; font-family:Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 0.9em;} #scrollbox li.listcat {float: left; text-align:left; width: 18em; margin-left: 0em; margin-top: 0.1em; margin-bottom: 0.3em; padding-top:0.5em; color: green; font-size: 0.9em; font-weight:bold;} Cheers Patrick.

  • How to model a relationship that NHibernate (or Hibernate) doesn’t easily support

    - by MylesRip
I have a situation in which the ideal relationship, I believe, would involve Value Object Inheritance. This is unfortunately not supported in NHibernate so any solution I come up with will be less than perfect. Let’s say that: “Item” entities have a “Location” that can be in one of multiple different formats. These formats are completely different with no overlapping fields. We will deal with each Location in the format that is provided in the data with no attempt to convert from one format to another. Each Item has exactly one Location. “SpecialItem” is a subtype of Item, however, that is unique in that it has exactly two Locations. “Group” entities aggregate Items. “LocationGroup” is as subtype of Group. LocationGroup also has a single Location that can be in any of the formats as described above. Although I’m interested in Items by Group, I’m also interested in being able to find all items with the same Location, regardless of which group they are in. I apologize for the number of stipulations listed above, but I’m afraid that simplifying it any further wouldn’t really reflect the difficulties of the situation. Here is how the above could be diagrammed: Mapping Dilemma Diagram: (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/592ad48b1a.jpg) (I tried placing the diagram inline, but Stack Overflow won't allow that until I have accumulated more points. I understand the reasoning behind it, but it is a bit inconvenient for now.) Hmmm... Apparently I can't have multiple links either. :-( Analyzing the above, I make the following observations: I treat Locations polymorphically, referring to the supertype rather than the subtype. Logically, Locations should be “Value Objects” rather than entities since it is meaningless to differentiate between two Location objects that have all the same values. Thus equality between Locations should be based on field comparisons, not identifiers. Also, value objects should be immutable and shared references should not be allowed. Using NHibernate (or Hibernate) one would typically map value objects using the “component” keyword which would cause the fields of the class to be mapped directly into the database table that represents the containing class. Put another way, there would not be a separate “Locations” table in the database (and Locations would therefore have no identifiers). NHibernate (or Hibernate) do not currently support inheritance for value objects. My choices as I see them are: Ignore the fact that Locations should be value objects and map them as entities. This would take care of the inheritance mapping issues since NHibernate supports entity inheritance. The downside is that I then have to deal with aliasing issues. (Meaning that if multiple objects share a reference to the same Location, then changing values for one object’s Location would cause the location to change for other objects that share the reference the same Location record.) I want to avoid this if possible. Another downside is that entities are typically compared by their IDs. This would mean that two Location objects would be considered not equal even if the values of all their fields are the same. This would be invalid and unacceptable from the business perspective. Flatten Locations into a single class so that there are no longer inheritance relationships for Locations. This would allow Locations to be treated as value objects which could easily be handled by using “component” mapping in NHibernate. The downside in this case would be that the domain model becomes weaker, more fragile and less maintainable. Do some “creative” mapping in the hbm files in order to force Location fields to be mapped into the containing entities’ tables without using the “component” keyword. This approach is described by Colin Jack here. My situation is more complicated than the one he describes due to the fact that SpecialItem has a second Location and the fact that a different entity, LocatedGroup, also has Locations. I could probably get it to work, but the mappings would be non-intuitive and therefore hard to understand and maintain by other developers in the future. Also, I suspect that these tricky mappings would likely not be possible using Fluent NHibernate so I would use the advantages of using that tool, at least in that situation. Surely others out there have run into similar situations. I’m hoping someone who has “been there, done that” can share some wisdom. :-) So here’s the question… Which approach should be preferred in this situation? Why?

  • Objects in Java ArrayList don't get updated.

    - by Sbm007
This is going to be a very long post, hopefully you can understand what I'm talking about and I appreciate any help. Thanks Basically, I've created a personal, non-commercial project (which I don't plan to release) that can read ZIP and RAR files. It can only read the contents in the archive, the folders inside, the files inside the folders and its properties (such as last modified date, last modified time, CRC checksum, uncompressed size, compressed size and file name). It can't extract files either, so it's really a ZIP/RAR viewer if you may. Anyway that's slightly irrelevant to my problem but I thought I'd give you some background info. Now for my problem: I can successfully list all the folders and files inside a ZIP archive, so now I want to take that raw input and link it together in some useful way. I made 2 classes: ArchiveFile (represents a file inside a ZIP) and ArchiveFolder (represents a folder inside a ZIP). They both have some useful methods such as getLastModifiedDate, getName, getPath and so on. But the difference is that ArchiveFolder can hold an ArrayList of ArchiveFile's and additional ArchiveFolder's (think of this as files and folders inside a folder). Now I want to populate my raw input into one root ArchiveFolder, which will have all the files in the root dir of the ZIP in the ArchiveFile's ArrayList and any additional folders in the root dir of the ZIP in the ArchiveFolder's ArrayList (and this process can continue on like this like a chain reaction (more files/folders in that ArchiveFolder etc etc). So I came up with the following code: while (archive.hasMore()) { String path = ""; ArchiveFolder current = root; String[] contents = archive.getName().split("/"); for (int x = 0; x < contents.length; ++x) { if (x == (contents.length - 1) && !archive.getName().endsWith("/")) { // If on last item and item is a file path += contents[x]; // Update final path ArchiveFile file = new ArchiveFile(path, contents[x], archive.getUncompressedSize(), archive.getCompressedSize(), archive.getModifiedTime(), archive.getModifiedDate(), archive.getCRC()); current.addFile(file); // Create and add the file to the current ArchiveFolder } else if (x == (contents.length - 1)) { // Else if we are on last item and it is a folder path += contents[x] + "/"; // Update final path ArchiveFolder folder = new ArchiveFolder(path, contents[x], archive.getModifiedTime(), archive.getModifiedDate()); current.addFolder(folder); // Create and add this folder to the current ArchiveFile } else { // Else if we are still traversing through the path path += contents[x] + "/"; // Update path ArchiveFolder folder = new ArchiveFolder(path, contents[x]); current.addFolder(folder); // Create and add folder (remember we do not know the modified date/time as all we know is the path, so we can deduce the name only) current = folder; // Update current ArchiveFolder to the newly created one for the next iteration of the for loop } } archive.getNext(); } Assume that root is the root ArchiveFolder (initially empty). And that archive.getName() returns the name of the current file OR folder in the following fashion: file.txt or folder1/file2.txt or folder4/folder2/ (this is a empty folder) etc. So basically the relative path from the root of the ZIP archive. Please read through the comments in the above code to familiarize yourself with it. Also assume that the addFolder method in an ArchiveFile, only adds the folder if it doesn't exist already (so there are no multiple folders) and it also updates the time and date of an existing folder if it is blank (ie it was a intermediate folder we only knew the name of, but now we know its details). The code for addFolder is (pretty self-explanitory): public void addFolder(ArchiveFolder folder) { int loc = folders.indexOf(folder); // folders is the ArrayList containing ArchiveFolder's if (loc == -1) { folders.add(folder); } else { ArchiveFolder real = folders.get(loc); if (real.time == null) { real.setTime(folder.getTime()); real.setDate(folder.getDate()); } } } So I can't see anything wrong with the code, it works and after finishing, the root ArchiveFolder contains all the files in the root of the ZIP as I want it to, and it contains all the direcories in the root folder as I want it to. So you'd think it works as expected, but no the ArchiveFolder's in the root folder don't contain the data inside those 'child' folders, it's just a blank folder with no additional files and folders (while it does really contain some more files/folders when viewed in WinZip). After debugging using Eclipse, the for loop does iterate through all the files (even those not included above), so this led me to believe that there is a problem with this line of the code: current = folder; What it does is, it updates the current folder (used as an intermediate by the loop) to the newly added folder. I thought Java passed by reference and thus all new operations and new additions in future ArchiveFile's and ArchiveFolder's are automatically updated, and parent ArchiveFolder's will be updated accordingly. But that does not appear to be the case? I know this is a long ass post and I really hope anyone can help me out with this. Thanks in advance.

  • Using gnome-boxes with Remote Desktop Connection

    - by lviggiani
in the past I used to connect to my windows server from ubuntu with remmina (through rdp protocol). I've recently installed ubuntu gnome remix (12.10.1) and gnome-boxes and I'm wondering if I can do the same with gnome-boxes. I've tried creating a new item in gnome-boxes and entering as url "rdp://x.x.x.x" as I used to do in remmina bit it says that the rdp protocol is not supported. Unfortunatelly I cannot find any manual or documentation listing the supported protocol or giving instruction on how to connect to a remote desktop. Can someone help me please?

  • Creating Custom Ajax Control Toolkit Controls

    - by Stephen Walther
The goal of this blog entry is to explain how you can extend the Ajax Control Toolkit with custom Ajax Control Toolkit controls. I describe how you can create the two halves of an Ajax Control Toolkit control: the server-side control extender and the client-side control behavior. Finally, I explain how you can use the new Ajax Control Toolkit control in a Web Forms page. At the end of this blog entry, there is a link to download a Visual Studio 2010 solution which contains the code for two Ajax Control Toolkit controls: SampleExtender and PopupHelpExtender. The SampleExtender contains the minimum skeleton for creating a new Ajax Control Toolkit control. You can use the SampleExtender as a starting point for your custom Ajax Control Toolkit controls. The PopupHelpExtender control is a super simple custom Ajax Control Toolkit control. This control extender displays a help message when you start typing into a TextBox control. The animated GIF below demonstrates what happens when you click into a TextBox which has been extended with the PopupHelp extender. Here’s a sample of a Web Forms page which uses the control: <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="ShowPopupHelp.aspx.cs" Inherits="MyACTControls.Web.Default" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html > <head runat="server"> <title>Show Popup Help</title> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div> <act:ToolkitScriptManager ID="tsm" runat="server" /> <%-- Social Security Number --%> <asp:Label ID="lblSSN" Text="SSN:" AssociatedControlID="txtSSN" runat="server" /> <asp:TextBox ID="txtSSN" runat="server" /> <act:PopupHelpExtender id="ph1" TargetControlID="txtSSN" HelpText="Please enter your social security number." runat="server" /> <%-- Social Security Number --%> <asp:Label ID="lblPhone" Text="Phone Number:" AssociatedControlID="txtPhone" runat="server" /> <asp:TextBox ID="txtPhone" runat="server" /> <act:PopupHelpExtender id="ph2" TargetControlID="txtPhone" HelpText="Please enter your phone number." runat="server" /> </div> </form> </body> </html> In the page above, the PopupHelp extender is used to extend the functionality of the two TextBox controls. When focus is given to a TextBox control, the popup help message is displayed. An Ajax Control Toolkit control extender consists of two parts: a server-side control extender and a client-side behavior. For example, the PopupHelp extender consists of a server-side PopupHelpExtender control (PopupHelpExtender.cs) and a client-side PopupHelp behavior JavaScript script (PopupHelpBehavior.js). Over the course of this blog entry, I describe how you can create both the server-side extender and the client-side behavior. Writing the Server-Side Code Creating a Control Extender You create a control extender by creating a class that inherits from the abstract ExtenderControlBase class. For example, the PopupHelpExtender control is declared like this: public class PopupHelpExtender: ExtenderControlBase { } The ExtenderControlBase class is part of the Ajax Control Toolkit. This base class contains all of the common server properties and methods of every Ajax Control Toolkit extender control. The ExtenderControlBase class inherits from the ExtenderControl class. The ExtenderControl class is a standard class in the ASP.NET framework located in the System.Web.UI namespace. This class is responsible for generating a client-side behavior. The class generates a call to the Microsoft Ajax Library $create() method which looks like this: <script type="text/javascript"> $create(MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior, {"HelpText":"Please enter your social security number.","id":"ph1"}, null, null, $get("txtSSN")); }); </script> The JavaScript $create() method is part of the Microsoft Ajax Library. The reference for this method can be found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb397487.aspx This method accepts the following parameters: type – The type of client behavior to create. The $create() method above creates a client PopupHelpBehavior. Properties – Enables you to pass initial values for the properties of the client behavior. For example, the initial value of the HelpText property. This is how server property values are passed to the client. Events – Enables you to pass client-side event handlers to the client behavior. References – Enables you to pass references to other client components. Element – The DOM element associated with the client behavior. This will be the DOM element associated with the control being extended such as the txtSSN TextBox. The $create() method is generated for you automatically. You just need to focus on writing the server-side control extender class. Specifying the Target Control All Ajax Control Toolkit extenders inherit a TargetControlID property from the ExtenderControlBase class. This property, the TargetControlID property, points at the control that the extender control extends. For example, the Ajax Control Toolkit TextBoxWatermark control extends a TextBox, the ConfirmButton control extends a Button, and the Calendar control extends a TextBox. You must indicate the type of control which your extender is extending. You indicate the type of control by adding a [TargetControlType] attribute to your control. For example, the PopupHelp extender is declared like this: [TargetControlType(typeof(TextBox))] public class PopupHelpExtender: ExtenderControlBase { } The PopupHelp extender can be used to extend a TextBox control. If you try to use the PopupHelp extender with another type of control then an exception is thrown. If you want to create an extender control which can be used with any type of ASP.NET control (Button, DataView, TextBox or whatever) then use the following attribute: [TargetControlType(typeof(Control))] Decorating Properties with Attributes If you decorate a server-side property with the [ExtenderControlProperty] attribute then the value of the property gets passed to the control’s client-side behavior. The value of the property gets passed to the client through the $create() method discussed above. The PopupHelp control contains the following HelpText property: [ExtenderControlProperty] [RequiredProperty] public string HelpText { get { return GetPropertyValue("HelpText", "Help Text"); } set { SetPropertyValue("HelpText", value); } } The HelpText property determines the help text which pops up when you start typing into a TextBox control. Because the HelpText property is decorated with the [ExtenderControlProperty] attribute, any value assigned to this property on the server is passed to the client automatically. For example, if you declare the PopupHelp extender in a Web Form page like this: <asp:TextBox ID="txtSSN" runat="server" /> <act:PopupHelpExtender id="ph1" TargetControlID="txtSSN" HelpText="Please enter your social security number." runat="server" />   Then the PopupHelpExtender renders the call to the the following Microsoft Ajax Library $create() method: $create(MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior, {"HelpText":"Please enter your social security number.","id":"ph1"}, null, null, $get("txtSSN")); You can see this call to the JavaScript $create() method by selecting View Source in your browser. This call to the $create() method calls a method named set_HelpText() automatically and passes the value “Please enter your social security number”. There are several attributes which you can use to decorate server-side properties including: ExtenderControlProperty – When a property is marked with this attribute, the value of the property is passed to the client automatically. ExtenderControlEvent – When a property is marked with this attribute, the property represents a client event handler. Required – When a value is not assigned to this property on the server, an error is displayed. DefaultValue – The default value of the property passed to the client. ClientPropertyName – The name of the corresponding property in the JavaScript behavior. For example, the server-side property is named ID (uppercase) and the client-side property is named id (lower-case). IDReferenceProperty – Applied to properties which refer to the IDs of other controls. URLProperty – Calls ResolveClientURL() to convert from a server-side URL to a URL which can be used on the client. ElementReference – Returns a reference to a DOM element by performing a client $get(). The WebResource, ClientResource, and the RequiredScript Attributes The PopupHelp extender uses three embedded resources named PopupHelpBehavior.js, PopupHelpBehavior.debug.js, and PopupHelpBehavior.css. The first two files are JavaScript files and the final file is a Cascading Style sheet file. These files are compiled as embedded resources. You don’t need to mark them as embedded resources in your Visual Studio solution because they get added to the assembly when the assembly is compiled by a build task. You can see that these files get embedded into the MyACTControls assembly by using Red Gate’s .NET Reflector tool: In order to use these files with the PopupHelp extender, you need to work with both the WebResource and the ClientScriptResource attributes. The PopupHelp extender includes the following three WebResource attributes. [assembly: WebResource("PopupHelp.PopupHelpBehavior.js", "text/javascript")] [assembly: WebResource("PopupHelp.PopupHelpBehavior.debug.js", "text/javascript")] [assembly: WebResource("PopupHelp.PopupHelpBehavior.css", "text/css", PerformSubstitution = true)] These WebResource attributes expose the embedded resource from the assembly so that they can be accessed by using the ScriptResource.axd or WebResource.axd handlers. The first parameter passed to the WebResource attribute is the name of the embedded resource and the second parameter is the content type of the embedded resource. The PopupHelp extender also includes the following ClientScriptResource and ClientCssResource attributes: [ClientScriptResource("MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior", "PopupHelp.PopupHelpBehavior.js")] [ClientCssResource("PopupHelp.PopupHelpBehavior.css")] Including these attributes causes the PopupHelp extender to request these resources when you add the PopupHelp extender to a page. If you open View Source in a browser which uses the PopupHelp extender then you will see the following link for the Cascading Style Sheet file: <link href="/WebResource.axd?d=0uONMsWXUuEDG-pbJHAC1kuKiIMteQFkYLmZdkgv7X54TObqYoqVzU4mxvaa4zpn5H9ch0RDwRYKwtO8zM5mKgO6C4WbrbkWWidKR07LD1d4n4i_uNB1mHEvXdZu2Ae5mDdVNDV53znnBojzCzwvSw2&amp;t=634417392021676003" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" /> You also will see the following script include for the JavaScript file: <script src="/ScriptResource.axd?d=pIS7xcGaqvNLFBvExMBQSp_0xR3mpDfS0QVmmyu1aqDUjF06TrW1jVDyXNDMtBHxpRggLYDvgFTWOsrszflZEDqAcQCg-hDXjun7ON0Ol7EXPQIdOe1GLMceIDv3OeX658-tTq2LGdwXhC1-dE7_6g2&amp;t=ffffffff88a33b59" type="text/javascript"></script> The JavaScrpt file returned by this request to ScriptResource.axd contains the combined scripts for any and all Ajax Control Toolkit controls in a page. By default, the Ajax Control Toolkit combines all of the JavaScript files required by a page into a single JavaScript file. Combining files in this way really speeds up how quickly all of the JavaScript files get delivered from the web server to the browser. So, by default, there will be only one ScriptResource.axd include for all of the JavaScript files required by a page. If you want to disable Script Combining, and create separate links, then disable Script Combining like this: <act:ToolkitScriptManager ID="tsm" runat="server" CombineScripts="false" /> There is one more important attribute used by Ajax Control Toolkit extenders. The PopupHelp behavior uses the following two RequirdScript attributes to load the JavaScript files which are required by the PopupHelp behavior: [RequiredScript(typeof(CommonToolkitScripts), 0)] [RequiredScript(typeof(PopupExtender), 1)] The first parameter of the RequiredScript attribute represents either the string name of a JavaScript file or the type of an Ajax Control Toolkit control. The second parameter represents the order in which the JavaScript files are loaded (This second parameter is needed because .NET attributes are intrinsically unordered). In this case, the RequiredScript attribute will load the JavaScript files associated with the CommonToolkitScripts type and the JavaScript files associated with the PopupExtender in that order. The PopupHelp behavior depends on these JavaScript files. Writing the Client-Side Code The PopupHelp extender uses a client-side behavior written with the Microsoft Ajax Library. Here is the complete code for the client-side behavior: (function () { // The unique name of the script registered with the // client script loader var scriptName = "PopupHelpBehavior"; function execute() { Type.registerNamespace('MyACTControls'); MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior = function (element) { /// <summary> /// A behavior which displays popup help for a textbox /// </summmary> /// <param name="element" type="Sys.UI.DomElement">The element to attach to</param> MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior.initializeBase(this, [element]); this._textbox = Sys.Extended.UI.TextBoxWrapper.get_Wrapper(element); this._cssClass = "ajax__popupHelp"; this._popupBehavior = null; this._popupPosition = Sys.Extended.UI.PositioningMode.BottomLeft; this._popupDiv = null; this._helpText = "Help Text"; this._element$delegates = { focus: Function.createDelegate(this, this._element_onfocus), blur: Function.createDelegate(this, this._element_onblur) }; } MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior.prototype = { initialize: function () { MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior.callBaseMethod(this, 'initialize'); // Add event handlers for focus and blur var element = this.get_element(); $addHandlers(element, this._element$delegates); }, _ensurePopup: function () { if (!this._popupDiv) { var element = this.get_element(); var id = this.get_id(); this._popupDiv = $common.createElementFromTemplate({ nodeName: "div", properties: { id: id + "_popupDiv" }, cssClasses: ["ajax__popupHelp"] }, element.parentNode); this._popupBehavior = new $create(Sys.Extended.UI.PopupBehavior, { parentElement: element }, {}, {}, this._popupDiv); this._popupBehavior.set_positioningMode(this._popupPosition); } }, get_HelpText: function () { return this._helpText; }, set_HelpText: function (value) { if (this._HelpText != value) { this._helpText = value; this._ensurePopup(); this._popupDiv.innerHTML = value; this.raisePropertyChanged("Text") } }, _element_onfocus: function (e) { this.show(); }, _element_onblur: function (e) { this.hide(); }, show: function () { this._popupBehavior.show(); }, hide: function () { if (this._popupBehavior) { this._popupBehavior.hide(); } }, dispose: function() { var element = this.get_element(); $clearHandlers(element); if (this._popupBehavior) { this._popupBehavior.dispose(); this._popupBehavior = null; } } }; MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior.registerClass('MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior', Sys.Extended.UI.BehaviorBase); Sys.registerComponent(MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior, { name: "popupHelp" }); } // execute if (window.Sys && Sys.loader) { Sys.loader.registerScript(scriptName, ["ExtendedBase", "ExtendedCommon"], execute); } else { execute(); } })();   In the following sections, we’ll discuss how this client-side behavior works. Wrapping the Behavior for the Script Loader The behavior is wrapped with the following script: (function () { // The unique name of the script registered with the // client script loader var scriptName = "PopupHelpBehavior"; function execute() { // Behavior Content } // execute if (window.Sys && Sys.loader) { Sys.loader.registerScript(scriptName, ["ExtendedBase", "ExtendedCommon"], execute); } else { execute(); } })(); This code is required by the Microsoft Ajax Library Script Loader. You need this code if you plan to use a behavior directly from client-side code and you want to use the Script Loader. If you plan to only use your code in the context of the Ajax Control Toolkit then you can leave out this code. Registering a JavaScript Namespace The PopupHelp behavior is declared within a namespace named MyACTControls. In the code above, this namespace is created with the following registerNamespace() method: Type.registerNamespace('MyACTControls'); JavaScript does not have any built-in way of creating namespaces to prevent naming conflicts. The Microsoft Ajax Library extends JavaScript with support for namespaces. You can learn more about the registerNamespace() method here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb397723.aspx Creating the Behavior The actual Popup behavior is created with the following code. MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior = function (element) { /// <summary> /// A behavior which displays popup help for a textbox /// </summmary> /// <param name="element" type="Sys.UI.DomElement">The element to attach to</param> MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior.initializeBase(this, [element]); this._textbox = Sys.Extended.UI.TextBoxWrapper.get_Wrapper(element); this._cssClass = "ajax__popupHelp"; this._popupBehavior = null; this._popupPosition = Sys.Extended.UI.PositioningMode.BottomLeft; this._popupDiv = null; this._helpText = "Help Text"; this._element$delegates = { focus: Function.createDelegate(this, this._element_onfocus), blur: Function.createDelegate(this, this._element_onblur) }; } MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior.prototype = { initialize: function () { MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior.callBaseMethod(this, 'initialize'); // Add event handlers for focus and blur var element = this.get_element(); $addHandlers(element, this._element$delegates); }, _ensurePopup: function () { if (!this._popupDiv) { var element = this.get_element(); var id = this.get_id(); this._popupDiv = $common.createElementFromTemplate({ nodeName: "div", properties: { id: id + "_popupDiv" }, cssClasses: ["ajax__popupHelp"] }, element.parentNode); this._popupBehavior = new $create(Sys.Extended.UI.PopupBehavior, { parentElement: element }, {}, {}, this._popupDiv); this._popupBehavior.set_positioningMode(this._popupPosition); } }, get_HelpText: function () { return this._helpText; }, set_HelpText: function (value) { if (this._HelpText != value) { this._helpText = value; this._ensurePopup(); this._popupDiv.innerHTML = value; this.raisePropertyChanged("Text") } }, _element_onfocus: function (e) { this.show(); }, _element_onblur: function (e) { this.hide(); }, show: function () { this._popupBehavior.show(); }, hide: function () { if (this._popupBehavior) { this._popupBehavior.hide(); } }, dispose: function() { var element = this.get_element(); $clearHandlers(element); if (this._popupBehavior) { this._popupBehavior.dispose(); this._popupBehavior = null; } } }; The code above has two parts. The first part of the code is used to define the constructor function for the PopupHelp behavior. This is a factory method which returns an instance of a PopupHelp behavior: MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior = function (element) { } The second part of the code modified the prototype for the PopupHelp behavior: MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior.prototype = { } Any code which is particular to a single instance of the PopupHelp behavior should be placed in the constructor function. For example, the default value of the _helpText field is assigned in the constructor function: this._helpText = "Help Text"; Any code which is shared among all instances of the PopupHelp behavior should be added to the PopupHelp behavior’s prototype. For example, the public HelpText property is added to the prototype: get_HelpText: function () { return this._helpText; }, set_HelpText: function (value) { if (this._HelpText != value) { this._helpText = value; this._ensurePopup(); this._popupDiv.innerHTML = value; this.raisePropertyChanged("Text") } }, Registering a JavaScript Class After you create the PopupHelp behavior, you must register the behavior as a class by using the Microsoft Ajax registerClass() method like this: MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior.registerClass('MyACTControls.PopupHelpBehavior', Sys.Extended.UI.BehaviorBase); This call to registerClass() registers PopupHelp behavior as a class which derives from the base Sys.Extended.UI.BehaviorBase class. Like the ExtenderControlBase class on the server side, the BehaviorBase class on the client side contains method used by every behavior. The documentation for the BehaviorBase class can be found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb311020.aspx The most important methods and properties of the BehaviorBase class are the following: dispose() – Use this method to clean up all resources used by your behavior. In the case of the PopupHelp behavior, the dispose() method is used to remote the event handlers created by the behavior and disposed the Popup behavior. get_element() -- Use this property to get the DOM element associated with the behavior. In other words, the DOM element which the behavior extends. get_id() – Use this property to the ID of the current behavior. initialize() – Use this method to initialize the behavior. This method is called after all of the properties are set by the $create() method. Creating Debug and Release Scripts You might have noticed that the PopupHelp behavior uses two scripts named PopupHelpBehavior.js and PopupHelpBehavior.debug.js. However, you never create these two scripts. Instead, you only create a single script named PopupHelpBehavior.pre.js. The pre in PopupHelpBehavior.pre.js stands for preprocessor. When you build the Ajax Control Toolkit (or the sample Visual Studio Solution at the end of this blog entry), a build task named JSBuild generates the PopupHelpBehavior.js release script and PopupHelpBehavior.debug.js debug script automatically. The JSBuild preprocessor supports the following directives: #IF #ELSE #ENDIF #INCLUDE #LOCALIZE #DEFINE #UNDEFINE The preprocessor directives are used to mark code which should only appear in the debug version of the script. The directives are used extensively in the Microsoft Ajax Library. For example, the Microsoft Ajax Library Array.contains() method is created like this: $type.contains = function Array$contains(array, item) { //#if DEBUG var e = Function._validateParams(arguments, [ {name: "array", type: Array, elementMayBeNull: true}, {name: "item", mayBeNull: true} ]); if (e) throw e; //#endif return (indexOf(array, item) >= 0); } Notice that you add each of the preprocessor directives inside a JavaScript comment. The comment prevents Visual Studio from getting confused with its Intellisense. The release version, but not the debug version, of the PopupHelpBehavior script is also minified automatically by the Microsoft Ajax Minifier. The minifier is invoked by a build step in the project file. Conclusion The goal of this blog entry was to explain how you can create custom AJAX Control Toolkit controls. In the first part of this blog entry, you learned how to create the server-side portion of an Ajax Control Toolkit control. You learned how to derive a new control from the ExtenderControlBase class and decorate its properties with the necessary attributes. Next, in the second part of this blog entry, you learned how to create the client-side portion of an Ajax Control Toolkit control by creating a client-side behavior with JavaScript. You learned how to use the methods of the Microsoft Ajax Library to extend your client behavior from the BehaviorBase class. Download the Custom ACT Starter Solution

  • Creating an ASP.NET report using Visual Studio 2010 - Part 3

    - by rajbk
We continue building our report in this three part series. Creating an ASP.NET report using Visual Studio 2010 - Part 1 Creating an ASP.NET report using Visual Studio 2010 - Part 2 Adding the ReportViewer control and filter drop downs. Open the source code for index.aspx and add a ScriptManager control. This control is required for the ReportViewer control. Add a DropDownList for the categories and suppliers. Add the ReportViewer control. The markup after these steps is shown below. <div> <asp:ScriptManager ID="smScriptManager" runat="server"> </asp:ScriptManager> <div id="searchFilter"> Filter by: Category : <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlCategories" runat="server" /> and Supplier : <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlSuppliers" runat="server" /> </div> <rsweb:ReportViewer ID="rvProducts" runat="server"> </rsweb:ReportViewer> </div> The design view for index.aspx is shown below. The dropdowns will display the categories and suppliers in the database. Changing the selection in the drop downs will cause the report to be filtered by the selections in the dropdowns. You will see how to do this in the next steps.   Attaching the RDLC to the ReportViewer control by clicking on the top right of the control, going to Report Viewer tasks and selecting Products.rdlc.   Resize the ReportViewer control by dragging at the bottom right corner. I set mine to 800px x 500px. You can also set this value in source view. Defining the data sources. We will now define the Data Source used to populate the report. Go back to the “ReportViewer Tasks” and select “Choose Data Sources” Select a “New data source..” Select “Object” and name your Data Source ID “odsProducts”   In the next screen, choose “ProductRepository” as your business object. Choose “GetProductsProjected” in the next screen.   The method requires a SupplierID and CategoryID. We will set these so that our data source gets the values from the drop down lists we defined earlier. Set the parameter source to be of type “Control” and set the ControlIDs to be ddlSuppliers and ddlCategories respectively. Your screen will look like this: We are now going to define the data source for our drop downs. Select the ddlCategory drop down and pick “Choose Data Source”. Pick “Object” and give it an id “odsCategories”   In the next screen, choose “ProductRepository” Select the GetCategories() method in the next screen.   Select “CategoryName” and “CategoryID” in the next screen. We are done defining the data source for the Category drop down. Perform the same steps for the Suppliers drop down.   Select each dropdown and set the AppendDataBoundItems to true and AutoPostback to true.     The AppendDataBoundItems is needed because we are going to insert an “All“ list item with a value of empty. Go to each drop down and add this list item markup as shown below> Finally, double click on each drop down in the designer and add the following code in the code behind. This along with the “Autopostback= true” attribute refreshes the report anytime a drop down is changed. protected void ddlCategories_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { rvProducts.LocalReport.Refresh(); }   protected void ddlSuppliers_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { rvProducts.LocalReport.Refresh(); } Compile your report and run the page. You should see the report rendered. Note that the tool bar in the ReportViewer control gives you a couple of options including the ability to export the data to Excel, PDF or word.   Conclusion Through this three part series, we did the following: Created a data layer for use by our RDLC. Created an RDLC using the report wizard and define a dataset for the report. Used the report design surface to design our report including adding a chart. Used the ReportViewer control to attach the RDLC. Connected our ReportWiewer to a data source and take parameter values from the drop downlists. Used AutoPostBack to refresh the reports when the dropdown selection was changed. RDLCs allow you to create interactive reports including drill downs and grouping. For even more advanced reports you can use Microsoft® SQL Server™ Reporting Services with RDLs. With RDLs, the report is rendered on the report server instead of the web server. Another nice thing about RDLs is that you can define a parameter list for the report and it gets rendered automatically for you. RDLCs and RDLs both have their advantages and its best to compare them and choose the right one for your requirements. • JMS Step 4 - How to Create an 11g BPEL Process Which Writes a Message Based on an XML Schema to a JMS Queue

JMS Step 4 - How to Create an 11g BPEL Process Which Writes a Message Based on an XML Schema to a JMS Queue ol{margin:0;padding:0} .c11_4{vertical-align:top;width:129.8pt;border-style:solid;background-color:#f3f3f3;border-color:#000000;border-width:1pt;padding:5pt 5pt 5pt 5pt} .c9_4{vertical-align:top;width:207pt;border-style:solid;background-color:#f3f3f3;border-color:#000000;border-width:1pt;padding:5pt 5pt 5pt 5pt}.c14{vertical-align:top;width:207pt;border-style:solid;border-color:#000000;border-width:1pt;padding:5pt 5pt 5pt 5pt} .c17_4{vertical-align:top;width:129.8pt;border-style:solid;border-color:#000000;border-width:1pt;padding:5pt 5pt 5pt 5pt} .c7_4{vertical-align:top;width:130pt;border-style:solid;border-color:#000000;border-width:1pt;padding:0pt 5pt 0pt 5pt} .c19_4{vertical-align:top;width:468pt;border-style:solid;border-color:#000000;border-width:1pt;padding:5pt 5pt 5pt 5pt} .c22_4{background-color:#ffffff} .c20_4{list-style-type:disc;margin:0;padding:0} .c6_4{font-size:8pt;font-family:"Courier New"} .c24_4{color:inherit;text-decoration:inherit} .c23_4{color:#1155cc;text-decoration:underline} .c0_4{height:11pt;direction:ltr} .c10_4{font-size:10pt;font-family:"Courier New"} .c3_4{padding-left:0pt;margin-left:36pt} .c18_4{font-size:8pt} .c8_4{text-align:center} .c12_4{background-color:#ffff00} .c2_4{font-weight:bold} .c21_4{background-color:#00ff00} .c4_4{line-height:1.0} .c1_4{direction:ltr} .c15_4{background-color:#f3f3f3} .c13_4{font-family:"Courier New"} .c5_4{font-style:italic} .c16_4{border-collapse:collapse} .title{padding-top:24pt;line-height:1.15;text-align:left;color:#000000;font-size:36pt;font-family:"Arial";font-weight:bold;padding-bottom:6pt} .subtitle{padding-top:18pt;line-height:1.15;text-align:left;color:#666666;font-style:italic;font-size:24pt;font-family:"Georgia";padding-bottom:4pt} li{color:#000000;font-size:10pt;font-family:"Arial"} p{color:#000000;font-size:10pt;margin:0;font-family:"Arial"} h1{padding-top:0pt;line-height:1.15;text-align:left;color:#888;font-size:18pt;font-family:"Arial";font-weight:normal;padding-bottom:0pt} h2{padding-top:0pt;line-height:1.15;text-align:left;color:#888;font-size:18pt;font-family:"Arial";font-weight:bold;padding-bottom:0pt} h3{padding-top:0pt;line-height:1.15;text-align:left;color:#888;font-size:14pt;font-family:"Arial";font-weight:normal;padding-bottom:0pt} h4{padding-top:0pt;line-height:1.15;text-align:left;color:#888;font-style:italic;font-size:11pt;font-family:"Arial";padding-bottom:0pt} h5{padding-top:0pt;line-height:1.15;text-align:left;color:#888;font-size:10pt;font-family:"Arial";font-weight:normal;padding-bottom:0pt} h6{padding-top:0pt;line-height:1.15;text-align:left;color:#888;font-style:italic;font-size:10pt;font-family:"Arial";padding-bottom:0pt} This post continues the series of JMS articles which demonstrate how to use JMS queues in a SOA context. The previous posts were: JMS Step 1 - How to Create a Simple JMS Queue in Weblogic Server 11g JMS Step 2 - Using the QueueSend.java Sample Program to Send a Message to a JMS Queue JMS Step 3 - Using the QueueReceive.java Sample Program to Read a Message from a JMS Queue In this example we will create a BPEL process which will write (enqueue) a message to a JMS queue using a JMS adapter. The JMS adapter will enqueue the full XML payload to the queue. This sample will use the following WebLogic Server objects. The first two, the Connection Factory and JMS Queue, were created as part of the first blog post in this series, JMS Step 1 - How to Create a Simple JMS Queue in Weblogic Server 11g. If you haven't created those objects yet, please see that post for details on how to do so. The Connection Pool will be created as part of this example. Object Name Type JNDI Name TestConnectionFactory Connection Factory jms/TestConnectionFactory TestJMSQueue JMS Queue jms/TestJMSQueue eis/wls/TestQueue Connection Pool eis/wls/TestQueue 1. Verify Connection Factory and JMS Queue As mentioned above, this example uses a WLS Connection Factory called TestConnectionFactory and a JMS queue TestJMSQueue. As these are prerequisites for this example, let us verify they exist. Log in to the WebLogic Server Administration Console. Select Services > JMS Modules > TestJMSModule You should see the following objects: If not, or if the TestJMSModule is missing, please see the abovementioned article and create these objects before continuing. 2. Create a JMS Adapter Connection Pool in WebLogic Server The BPEL process we are about to create uses a JMS adapter to write to the JMS queue. The JMS adapter is deployed to the WebLogic server and needs to be configured to include a connection pool which references the connection factory associated with the JMS queue. In the WebLogic Server Console Go to Deployments > Next and select (click on) the JmsAdapter Select Configuration > Outbound Connection Pools and expand oracle.tip.adapter.jms.IJmsConnectionFactory. This will display the list of connections configured for this adapter. For example, eis/aqjms/Queue, eis/aqjms/Topic etc. These JNDI names are actually quite confusing. We are expecting to configure a connection pool here, but the names refer to queues and topics. One would expect these to be called *ConnectionPool or *_CF or similar, but to conform to this nomenclature, we will call our entry eis/wls/TestQueue . This JNDI name is also the name we will use later, when creating a BPEL process to access this JMS queue! Select New, check the oracle.tip.adapter.jms.IJmsConnectionFactory check box and Next. Enter JNDI Name: eis/wls/TestQueue for the connection instance, then press Finish. Expand oracle.tip.adapter.jms.IJmsConnectionFactory again and select (click on) eis/wls/TestQueue The ConnectionFactoryLocation must point to the JNDI name of the connection factory associated with the JMS queue you will be writing to. In our example, this is the connection factory called TestConnectionFactory, with the JNDI name jms/TestConnectionFactory.( As a reminder, this connection factory is contained in the JMS Module called TestJMSModule, under Services > Messaging > JMS Modules > TestJMSModule which we verified at the beginning of this document. )Enter jms/TestConnectionFactory  into the Property Value field for Connection Factory Location. After entering it, you must press Return/Enter then Save for the value to be accepted. If your WebLogic server is running in Development mode, you should see the message that the changes have been activated and the deployment plan successfully updated. If not, then you will manually need to activate the changes in the WebLogic server console. Although the changes have been activated, the JmsAdapter needs to be redeployed in order for the changes to become effective. This should be confirmed by the message Remember to update your deployment to reflect the new plan when you are finished with your changes as can be seen in the following screen shot: The next step is to redeploy the JmsAdapter.Navigate back to the Deployments screen, either by selecting it in the left-hand navigation tree or by selecting the “Summary of Deployments” link in the breadcrumbs list at the top of the screen. Then select the checkbox next to JmsAdapter and press the Update button On the Update Application Assistant page, select “Redeploy this application using the following deployment files” and press Finish. After a few seconds you should get the message that the selected deployments were updated. The JMS adapter configuration is complete and it can now be used to access the JMS queue. To summarize: we have created a JMS adapter connection pool connector with the JNDI name jms/TestConnectionFactory. This is the JNDI name to be accessed by a process such as a BPEL process, when using the JMS adapter to access the previously created JMS queue with the JNDI name jms/TestJMSQueue. In the following step, we will set up a BPEL process to use this JMS adapter to write to the JMS queue. 3. Create a BPEL Composite with a JMS Adapter Partner Link This step requires that you have a valid Application Server Connection defined in JDeveloper, pointing to the application server on which you created the JMS Queue and Connection Factory. You can create this connection in JDeveloper under the Application Server Navigator. Give it any name and be sure to test the connection before completing it. This sample will use the connection name jbevans-lx-PS5, as that is the name of the connection pointing to my SOA PS5 installation. When using a JMS adapter from within a BPEL process, there are various configuration options, such as the operation type (consume message, produce message etc.), delivery mode and message type. One of these options is the choice of the format of the JMS message payload. This can be structured around an existing XSD, in which case the full XML element and tags are passed, or it can be opaque, meaning that the payload is sent as-is to the JMS adapter. In the case of an XSD-based message, the payload can simply be copied to the input variable of the JMS adapter. In the case of an opaque message, the JMS adapter’s input variable is of type base64binary. So the payload needs to be converted to base64 binary first. I will go into this in more detail in a later blog entry. This sample will pass a simple message to the adapter, based on the following simple XSD file, which consists of a single string element: stringPayload.xsd <?xml version="1.0" encoding="windows-1252" ?> <xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns="http://www.example.org" targetNamespace="http://www.example.org" elementFormDefault="qualified" <xsd:element name="exampleElement" type="xsd:string"> </xsd:element> </xsd:schema> The following steps are all executed in JDeveloper. The SOA project will be created inside a JDeveloper Application. If you do not already have an application to contain the project, you can create a new one via File > New > General > Generic Application. Give the application any name, for example JMSTests and, when prompted for a project name and type, call the project JmsAdapterWriteWithXsd and select SOA as the project technology type. If you already have an application, continue below. Create a SOA Project Create a new project and choose SOA Tier > SOA Project as its type. Name it JmsAdapterWriteSchema. When prompted for the composite type, choose Composite With BPEL Process. When prompted for the BPEL Process, name it JmsAdapterWriteSchema too and choose Synchronous BPEL Process as the template. This will create a composite with a BPEL process and an exposed SOAP service. Double-click the BPEL process to open and begin editing it. You should see a simple BPEL process with a Receive and Reply activity. As we created a default process without an XML schema, the input and output variables are simple strings. Create an XSD File An XSD file is required later to define the message format to be passed to the JMS adapter. In this step, we create a simple XSD file, containing a string variable and add it to the project. First select the xsd item in the left-hand navigation tree to ensure that the XSD file is created under that item. Select File > New > General > XML and choose XML Schema. Call it stringPayload.xsd and when the editor opens, select the Source view. then replace the contents with the contents of the stringPayload.xsd example above and save the file. You should see it under the xsd item in the navigation tree. Create a JMS Adapter Partner Link We will create the JMS adapter as a service at the composite level. If it is not already open, double-click the composite.xml file in the navigator to open it. From the Component Palette, drag a JMS adapter over onto the right-hand swim lane, under External References. This will start the JMS Adapter Configuration Wizard. Use the following entries: Service Name: JmsAdapterWrite Oracle Enterprise Messaging Service (OEMS): Oracle Weblogic JMS AppServer Connection: Use an existing application server connection pointing to the WebLogic server on which the above JMS queue and connection factory were created. You can use the “+” button to create a connection directly from the wizard, if you do not already have one. This example uses a connection called jbevans-lx-PS5. Adapter Interface > Interface: Define from operation and schema (specified later) Operation Type: Produce Message Operation Name: Produce_message Destination Name: Press the Browse button, select Destination Type: Queues, then press Search. Wait for the list to populate, then select the entry for TestJMSQueue , which is the queue created earlier. JNDI Name: The JNDI name to use for the JMS connection. This is probably the most important step in this exercise and the most common source of error. This is the JNDI name of the JMS adapter’s connection pool created in the WebLogic Server and which points to the connection factory. JDeveloper does not verify the value entered here. If you enter a wrong value, the JMS adapter won’t find the queue and you will get an error message at runtime, which is very difficult to trace. In our example, this is the value eis/wls/TestQueue . (See the earlier step on how to create a JMS Adapter Connection Pool in WebLogic Server for details.) MessagesURL: We will use the XSD file we created earlier, stringPayload.xsd to define the message format for the JMS adapter. Press the magnifying glass icon to search for schema files. Expand Project Schema Files > stringPayload.xsd and select exampleElement: string. Press Next and Finish, which will complete the JMS Adapter configuration. Wire the BPEL Component to the JMS Adapter In this step, we link the BPEL process/component to the JMS adapter. From the composite.xml editor, drag the right-arrow icon from the BPEL process to the JMS adapter’s in-arrow. This completes the steps at the composite level. 4. Complete the BPEL Process Design Invoke the JMS Adapter Open the BPEL component by double-clicking it in the design view of the composite.xml, or open it from the project navigator by selecting the JmsAdapterWriteSchema.bpel file. This will display the BPEL process in the design view. You should see the JmsAdapterWrite partner link under one of the two swim lanes. We want it in the right-hand swim lane. If JDeveloper displays it in the left-hand lane, right-click it and choose Display > Move To Opposite Swim Lane. An Invoke activity is required in order to invoke the JMS adapter. Drag an Invoke activity between the Receive and Reply activities. Drag the right-hand arrow from the Invoke activity to the JMS adapter partner link. This will open the Invoke editor. The correct default values are entered automatically and are fine for our purposes. We only need to define the input variable to use for the JMS adapter. By pressing the green “+” symbol, a variable of the correct type can be auto-generated, for example with the name Invoke1_Produce_Message_InputVariable. Press OK after creating the variable. ( For some reason, while I was testing this, the JMS Adapter moved back to the left-hand swim lane again after this step. There is no harm in leaving it there, but I find it easier to follow if it is in the right-hand lane, because I kind-of think of the message coming in on the left and being routed through the right. But you can follow your personal preference here.) Assign Variables Drag an Assign activity between the Receive and Invoke activities. We will simply copy the input variable to the JMS adapter and, for completion, so the process has an output to print, again to the process’s output variable. Double-click the Assign activity and create two Copy rules: for the first, drag Variables > inputVariable > payload > client:process > client:input_string to Invoke1_Produce_Message_InputVariable > body > ns2:exampleElement for the second, drag the same input variable to outputVariable > payload > client:processResponse > client:result This will create two copy rules, similar to the following: Press OK. This completes the BPEL and Composite design. 5. Compile and Deploy the Composite We won’t go into too much detail on how to compile and deploy. In JDeveloper, compile the process by pressing the Make or Rebuild icons or by right-clicking the project name in the navigator and selecting Make... or Rebuild... If the compilation is successful, deploy it to the SOA server connection defined earlier. (Right-click the project name in the navigator, select Deploy to Application Server, choose the application server connection, choose the partition on the server (usually default) and press Finish. You should see the message ---- Deployment finished. ---- in the Deployment frame, if the deployment was successful. 6. Test the Composite This is the exciting part. Open two tabs in your browser and log in to the WebLogic Administration Console in one tab and the Enterprise Manager 11g Fusion Middleware Control (EM) for your SOA installation in the other. We will use the Console to monitor the messages being written to the queue and the EM to execute the composite. In the Console, go to Services > Messaging > JMS Modules > TestJMSModule > TestJMSQueue > Monitoring. Note the number of messages under Messages Current. In the EM, go to SOA > soa-infra (soa_server1) > default (or wherever you deployed your composite to) and click on JmsAdapterWriteSchema [1.0], then press the Test button. Under Input Arguments, enter any string into the text input field for the payload, for example Test Message then press Test Web Service. If the instance is successful you should see the same text in the Response message, “Test Message”. In the Console, refresh the Monitoring screen to confirm a new message has been written to the queue. Check the checkbox and press Show Messages. Click on the newest message and view its contents. They should include the full XML of the entered payload. 7. Troubleshooting If you get an exception similar to the following at runtime ... BINDING.JCA-12510 JCA Resource Adapter location error. Unable to locate the JCA Resource Adapter via .jca binding file element The JCA Binding Component is unable to startup the Resource Adapter specified in the element: location='eis/wls/QueueTest'. The reason for this is most likely that either 1) the Resource Adapters RAR file has not been deployed successfully to the WebLogic Application server or 2) the '' element in weblogic-ra.xml has not been set to eis/wls/QueueTest. In the last case you will have to add a new WebLogic JCA connection factory (deploy a RAR). Please correct this and then restart the Application Server at oracle.integration.platform.blocks.adapter.fw.AdapterBindingException. createJndiLookupException(AdapterBindingException.java:130) at oracle.integration.platform.blocks.adapter.fw.jca.cci. JCAConnectionManager$JCAConnectionPool.createJCAConnectionFactory (JCAConnectionManager.java:1387) at oracle.integration.platform.blocks.adapter.fw.jca.cci. JCAConnectionManager$JCAConnectionPool.newPoolObject (JCAConnectionManager.java:1285) ... then this is very likely due to an incorrect JNDI name entered for the JMS Connection in the JMS Adapter Wizard. Recheck those steps. The error message prints the name of the JNDI name used. In this example, it was incorrectly entered as eis/wls/QueueTest instead of eis/wls/TestQueue. This concludes this example. Best regards John-Brown Evans Oracle Technology Proactive Support Delivery

  • Non-Dom Element Event Binding with jQuery

Yesterday I had a short discussion with Dave Reed on Twitter regarding setting up fake events on objects that are hookable. jQuery makes it real easy to bind events on DOM elements and with a little bit of extra work (that I didnt know about) you can also set up binding to non-DOM element event bindings. Assume for a second that you have a simple JavaScript object like this: var item = { sku: "wwhelp" , foo: function() { alert('orginal foo function'); } }; and...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? We already have over 80 articles in several categories including Silverlight. Take a look: here.
