This approach is becoming a little cumbersome though, and I'm wondering if there is any benefit to having a collection of pre-constructed WebClient instances, or if creating them on the fly wouldn't be too much trouble?

Can someone please elaborate on the usage of * in the following instance method. - (IBAction)sliderChanged:(id)sender{ UISlider *slider = (UISlider *)sender; } I realize that we are creating a variable typed as UISlider and then setting it to sender once it is cast as a UISlider. However, I don't understand what the * are for and why UISlider slider = (UISlider)sender; won't work.

If the answer is no, how do you handle creating something like a customer number or order number that will prevent the creation duplicate numbers? My experience is mainly from SQL Server in which I would either create a primary key with an identity seed or use transactions in a stored procedure to increment the number. Thanks for your help!

  I'd like to begin tinkering around with an RTS AI, but I'm having trouble finding a good environment to work with, ie a game that has been already created. I have looked at Spring RTS and Bos Wars, but they don't seem to be conducive to creating simple examples. I am not totally opposed to writing my own game environment, it would just take a long time.   So I'm using Bitnami to learn Ruby on Rails. I have also previously tried the manual installation for ruby and rails and was met by the same problem so I thought I should try first the easy package deal of Bitnami. Anyway my problem with json is that it causes the bundle install to fail. First the auto bundle install that rails new does fails because of an ssl error. Which is easily solved by changing the source in the gemfile which is https to http. However when I try to bundle install it does another error when it tries to install json. • How to save preferences to somewhere other than SharedPreferences

  My application is used on multiple platforms so it saves it preferences to a file (rather than to the standard Android SharedPreferences). Is there any easy of reusing the PreferenceActivity to save preferences to a file or is it a case of creating a whole new activity to do the job? If the latter is the case is there a layout I can use that will make the activity look like the normal preferences screen? PreferenceActivity uses com.android.internal.R.layout.preference_list_content but this doesn't appear to be available to apps for reuse.
