No Sound via HDMI

I have ubuntu installed on a Acer aspire revo 3700 intel atom processor with nvidia ion graphics this is plugged into a celcus 32 inch TV via HDMI (1080p). The video driver shows as an nvidia which I can select. I have set the sound to play via HDMI and the output to HDMI but get no sound. I have tried a sony 1080i TV with the box but get eratic results with the graphics, but the sound picks up straight away that is there is no need to select it. The graphics on the celcus TV work but I get a dialog box showing loads of different resolutions and frequencies which I have to close manually, these appear to be attempts to set different resolutions for the TV. Am I missing some sort of screen/sound driver, if so does anyone know what might support the celcus 32 inch (1080p) tv?

.xprofile isn't enough

I've been trying to find a solution on how to change the screen resolution on the login screen and other users. .xprofile will only affect my account. I've been searching for a few months but I got nothing. Please help. It would be easier if the "Default Resolution" was still there in the monitors settings. Plus, I'm afraid of editing the xorg.conf. Last time was ugly... Can I use WUBI as an offline installer for 12.10?

Can I use WUBI as an offline installer? I already had the .iso file of ubuntu 12.10 - i386, and inside the iso is wubi.exe. For example: I will do a partition of, E:30gb then i will target E: in wubi so that it will be Ubuntu then use the .iso file to install it on E: My Computer: Acer Aspire 5750-6683 i5-2450m processor Is it fine to do a dual boot? Can I run Windows 7 Home Premium OS, with the custom theme and boot screen, can that effect dual booting? I just don't want to damage any of files or either any of OS And if I can't boot any of the operating systems what should I do? Can I avoid doing a clean install if that ever happens?

Can't restart from Ubuntu 12.10

I am dual-booting Ubuntu 12.10 and Windows 8 Pro. Both run seamlessly but I've had the persistent issue of not being able to restart my machine properly from Ubuntu. If I am on Ubuntu and hit the 'Restart..' option, the screen turns off and Ubuntu shuts down, but the computer never turns off and grub bootloader never shows on the screen. However, rebooting from Windows gets me to the bootloader as it should. Turning off the machine completely with 'Shut down' works fine with both Ubuntu and Windows as well. This issue was present even when I was dual booting Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7 Starter as well. My computer is an Acer AOD257 with 2 GB RAM, Intel Atom N570 Processor. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So, I'm slightly computer literate, and find myself frustrated and overwhelmed. My computer is a acer laptop, extensa 5620-6572. I have a dual boot with windows vista and ubuntu 12.04. The ubuntu 12.04 I got was from an upgrade, not a disc. I tried to load ubuntu 12.04, and it gets stuck in the "busybox", and I don't know how to proceed from there. I went to my windows partition and downloaded Ex2 from http://sourceforge.net/projects/ext2fsd/ and thought I'd try access my files and save them to a external HD. Then when I restarted my computer and went to windows, it always freezes after it loads the OS. So then, I downloaded and burned a ubuntu 12.04 boot disk, and the disk works fine. But I still can't figure out how to view files on my harddrive.

mouse pad freezes

I have an acer aspire running net book remix 11.10. the mouse pad freezes up completely and I must use an external mouse. if I reboot the computer the mouse pad will work again. i seem to have this problem happen in the middle of either using firefox or a few time while using thunderbird. anyone else having this problem. an external mouse works but scrolling is choppy or it scrolls part of the way down a page and then jumps to the top again. I don't recall having this problem after upgrading to 11.10 so I think it is related to an update. my Linux skills are limited.

Can not login to Normal mode

I installed ubuntu 12 in my old PC Acer Power Series. After installation i got the Login Screen which appears unusally big. when i logged-in in some fail-safe mode. I got the normal ubuntu running. but if i restart the system i can login using fail-safe mode but i can't login normally. I think the problem must be i don't have a graphic card. Even if i do have one that must be very very low configuration one. Kindly help me with graphic card config if that is the problem with my PC. I just want to use ubuntu for normal documentation purpose. I am new to ubuntu so techcies help me with basic guidance. Thank you. Karthik Muralitharan

my friend loaned me his Acer c720 in order to load ubuntu on it. I have previously liberated my netbook and UMPC with Ubuntu but those where normal windows PCs. I have followed all the steps so far in order to enter developer mode yet at the login screen, when I type ctrl+alt+= (F2) nothing happens. the terminal should open up but it does not. Please help me, my friend bought this craptop but does not have wi-fi thus rendering it useless. P.S. how do you right click without an external mouse?

Windows XP usb drivers reinstalling upon reboot

We have a Windows XP SP3 laptop (Acer Travelmate 7320) to which we connect a variety of astronomy equipment (a telescope, its mount, some cameras and others) all of which connect through USB. When we plug in these devices, Windows tells us that it detects the hardware and installs the driver. All of these devices then function correctly using the software that came from the vendor (unfortunately, one of the vendors does not support Vista 64, and that is why we're using our XP laptop). However when we reboot the computer we experience a variety of symptoms: Windows reports that it found new hardware for some of the devices and tries to reinstall their drivers, and for some of the other devices needs to be unplugged and plugged in again before they are detected again by the operating system, in which case Windows still tries to reinstall their drivers. It is as if Windows does not remember that it has already installed the drivers. Is this a common problem on Windows XP? If so, what can be done about it? Should we rather be looking at the laptop's firmware and drivers? We've looked into updating the drivers for the chipset, but this did not solve the problem. Thank you in advance.

Hi, I have a strange problem. To detect outgoing calls I have registered a broadcast receiver for android.intent.action.PHONE_STATE. When the state becomes OFFHOOK, then a conversation is started. It seems working on emulator: the debugger in fact reaches some code while it doesn't work on real device (Acer Liquid). Is it possible? Which is a way to detect outgoing calls? Thanks

Dell Latitude E6430 Docking Station + Dual Monitor + Laptop Screen Tri-Monitor setup

I have a company issued laptop and docking station as well as two monitors The specifications of the hardware are as follows; Laptop: Latitude E6430 BIOS: A02.00 Processor: i7-3720QM CPU @ 2.60 (8 CPUs) Memory: 4096MB RAM Page file: 1825MB used, 4793MB available DirectX 11 Display Driver/Chip: MVIDIA NVS 5200M DAC: Integrated RAMDAC Aprox Total Memory: 2376 (Above 3 details same for both displays) Current Display Mode (Display 1): 1600x900 Current Display Mode (Display 2): 1440x900 the docking station is a Dell Latitude E6420 Docking Station PR03X Port Replicator and I don't think the monitor model is particularly relevant to resolving this issue but they are both Acer V193Ws The story goes like this; the laptop works fine if I VGA one monitor into the laptop through the vga port on the back of the lefthand side of the laptop I can achieve dual monitor display fine (laptop screen + monitor) if I plug the laptop into the docking station and use the vga port in the back of the docking station I can dual monitor fine (laptop screen + monitor) if I plug the laptop into the docking station, the laptop's lefthand side VGA port no longer seems to function at all I've spoken to internal IT about this issue and they're going to get me some kind of VGA splitter or a DVI-VGA adapter to use with the docking station for the second Acer Monitor, but that isn't going to happen for a few days. So I guess what I'm wondering is; is there any way to continue to use the side VGA port on my laptop while using the docking station VGA port? and as a secondary 'followup' pending resolution of the initial issue with getting both monitors up and running (at the moment I have both monitors on my desk but am just using my laptop screen as one of my dual monitor display with one of the monitors [the one connected to dock]), is there any way to CONTINUE to use my laptop monitor to in effect have a triple monitor display (2 monitors + docked laptop)? I am wondering this because internal IT told me that they were aware of some issues with the particular display drivers in my box and triple monitor displays but weren't really going to look TOO much in-depth into that (which is perfectly understandable) since getting the adapter for the dual monitors up and running was the greater priority within their purview. So this is a two parter; Can I dual monitor using two vga cables with 1 docking station vga port and one laptop vga port? is there a setting that can be tweaked somewhere? because plugging the box into the station seems to make the side port stop working and... Is there any reasonably simple and cost-effective work around (e.g. I am find with shelling out maybe a few dollars out of my own pocket for some hardware or software to make my company box tri-display capable) but if this requires some extensive rebuild or new OSs or doing stuff to the BIOS I'd rather have a straight answer about this being untenable as a slight modification to a (once again) company laptop and stop wasting time looking into it Thanks! and please let me know if you guys need any more details (tech specs or something) to answer this question [EDIT] 2/10/2014 Just an update; turned out it really was just a hardware limitation issue. The old laptop just couldn't hack it. Got a new laptop with a better video card and different monitors from my company and am successfully using a triple display currently (2 monitors + laptop screen)

Why do I get error "1337 The security ID structure is invalid" when using subinacl?

I have a standard Win 7 account 'popuser' to which I'd like to grant start and stop permissions for the OpenVPNService. I've used the following command successfully on other machines, but for some reason on a new Acer Aspire 5830T that I'm setting up this doesn't do the trick for me: subinacl /service OpenVPNService /grant=popuser=TO I keep getting the following error message: LookupAccountName : OpenVPNService:popuser 1337 The security ID structure is invalid. Wireless doesn't work on a Lenovo V570

I've had Ubuntu installed on my HD for about 3 months but ever since I ran into this wireless issue I kinda lost my lust of Ubuntu. I have zero experience getting around with/ using the console command. I have a Lenovo V570. I got the driver update for the broadcom networking card via the Additional Drivers application but that did nothing. I love the look and feel of using Ubuntu but I have no technological experience for the matter. Any help would be awesome. When I scan for wireless connections while in Ubuntu, my computer picks up nothing, while on Win7 it will pick up the handful of wireless networks around my area. My wired connection is fine, but the use of not having wireless on a laptop is rather contradictory to it as a feature. Cheers! Also, I just installed 11.10, if that helps any. So here's my problem: I have some netbooks (ASUS eee, and ACER Aspire Ones) that I've been tasked to set up as kiosk machines, locked up tight for normal users. I am a command-line, server man, so this gnome malarkey is all a bit new to me. I found a lovely 9.04 kiosk livecd that installs and runs exactly as I want it to, but I can't get the wireless working. So I dropped on a full 10.4 distro, and wireless works straight out of the box (so hardware is good) - all I needed to do was right-click on the network connection icon, enter my SSID and password (WPA/WPA2) and away it went, perfect. Further investigation on 10.4 distro shows that /etc/networking/interfaces is virtually empty (just auto lo iface lo inet loopback in it), even after I have set up the wireless thru the gnome taskbar applet (is that the right word?). So where does gnome / ubuntu store the network settings to bring the blasted wireless connection up, and what do I need to do on the kiosk version to get wireless running?

replace laptop hard disk

I have bought a ACER Aspire 5736Z-4790 laptop for my parents. It just passed the warranty. I think the hard disk is bad now. I cannot open/copy some of my files. It will crash (blue screen) when I do chkdsk /f/r in the stage 4 of 5 which is verifying file data. I can hear a strange noise when it is reading the bad sectors (I guess because it hangs there.) I am thinking replace the hard disk. should I buy the same hard disk or any SATA laptop hard disk will be ok? BTW, is there a way to repair it (with software)?

XP Mode (Windows Virtual PC for Windows 7) no longer requires hardware virtualisation - hurrah !

Windows Virtual PC (aka XP Mode) When XP Mode was released, it insisted on hardware virtualisation being present on your CPU and enabled in the BIOS. Given that Windows Virtual PC was based on an improved Virtual PC 2007, which provided hardware virtualisation as a user selectable option, I did wonder why on earth Microsoft thought this was a good idea. Not only do many people not have a CPU with hardware virtualisation support, some manufacturers don't provide a BIOS option to enable this setting, especially on laptops - yes Sony, Toshiba and Acer, I'm looking at you. Dumb and dumber This issue became a double whammy; not only was Microsoft a bit dumb on not supporting Windows Virtual PC without hardware virtualisation, your hardware manufacturer was also dumb in not supporting the option in the BIOS. Microsoft update to Windows Virtual PC Belatedly, Microsoft has seen the problem with this hardware virtualisation requirement and has now released a new version of Windows Virtual PC that works without hardware virtualisation. This is really good news for those with older (or limited) CPUs and rubbish BIOS firmware. Can a usb cable carry 12v?

Here's what i'm wanting to do. I have a Acer Iconia A500 tablet. I want to plug it in, in the car, but it has a barrel plug and I don't want to buy an inverter. The car adapters are expensive for what they do. But since it's just a cable... wasn't sure if that really made a whole lot of difference since it's only 1.5 amps from the wall charger. Is it possible to use that usb cable through the powerbolt car charger, to charge the A500?

Realtek audio AC 97 5.1 on Windows 7: Terrible subwoofer quality

I have a media center PC with on-board Realtek AC97 Audio. I have been using Windows XP for a couple of years with great audio quality. I just upgraded this PC with Windows 7 and installed the latest Realtek drivers from http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/ At the testing screen, all the speakers works correctly (including subwoofer). Despite that, while playing any movie or music, the subwoofer quality is terrible. From it it just comes noises, in the correct rhythm but quite low and quite out of tone. I compensated the loudness by putting the other speakers lower but the sound of the subwoofer is really terrible. Is there anyone facing the same problem? Does anyone have a workaround for that? PS.: I had gone past the steps given in Terrible noises from subwoofer of ACER Aspire 6930 with Realtek sound chip but still I have a bad quality of sound. Where are those crapware desktop icons located?

My new Acer Aspire One netbook came pre-installed with Windows 7 Starter and lots of other promotional software. Some of them (like Norton and McAfee) I uninstalled immediately. Others (like the Barnes & Notble Desktop Reader and the Times Reader) I would like to keep until I see whether they can be useful). Regardless, I would like to remove their desktop icons (making them accessible through the Start menu only), in such a way that when I add another user account, these desktop icons will not appear on that user's desktop. But when I checked my desktop folder C:\Users\an00b\Desktop I noticed that it's empty! So my desktop's folder is empty, but the icons are still visible on the Desktop. How is this possible? Where are they stored in Windows 7? These applications fill my tiny netbook's desktop and when I wanted to delete

INtegral card readers have drivers installed but do not show on my computer

I recenlty fixed a computer powerbutton and accidentally unplugged a sd card reader and did not know where was at (didnt knw if it was usb or firewire/ after i found out, i guess i installed it on a different usb so reinstalled the drivers..Drivers show installed successfully, ready to use. but THey do not show up on my computer as removable disks (E:) etc.a s they should I have windows 7 home premium 64 bits. the computer is a Acer Aspire M1201-be50001a. I tried following the installation and they show up while installing and then hide again. Any help is appreciated Thanks in advance.

How to tell X.org to reload input device module?

When X.org boots up, Synaptics touchpad works well. But when I remove the module it falls back to /dev/input/mice and don't use normal driver even when touchpad is available again. Xorg.0.log: ... P.S. rmmod psmouse is needed to prevent crashing of Acer Extensa 5220 when resuming from suspend-to-ram. Update: Found answer myself: Doing xinput set-int-prop "Synaptics Touchpad" "Device Enabled" 8 1 after reloading the kernel module reloads touchpad. Now suspend-to-ram works OK.

I got an Acer Aspire 5100 and I just bought a new battery (after the stock battery just died yesterday). But I saw something after buying and I'm wondering whether it's really important or not. My stock battery was a 6-cell 4000mah 11.1v and the new battery is an 8-cell 4800mah 14.8v . I know that 8-cell and 4800mah is okay, but what about the 14.8v instead of 11.1v? The battery description says it's compatible with my laptop model (AS5100, model BL51), but the voltage difference makes me wonder. Will the laptop only take what it needs? Or will it be getting 14.8v straight in the brain? I know that my wall plug claims to output 19v, so logically I'm thinking a higher voltage battery shouldn't be a problem. Am I correct in thinking this? Thanks in advance for your answers!
