• ActionScript arrays being automatically set to other values

  I am making a flash game, in each round, the player will chose either True or False. The decision of each round will be stored in an array. That is, it looks like {true, false, true, false}.. When the user clicks the "Debrief“ button, the eventlistener will be called and the game will go to the debriefing part. It will read the array mentioned before. However, the array values are all "false". I am very sure that the array has not being touched in between. So, any ideas about why the array is set to false mysteriously?

• Drawing lines between windows just like in Interface Builder

I want to be able to draw a line between the two round NSViews at runtime, using drag'n'drop, just like connecting IBOutlets in Interface Builder: ------------------ ------------ |X-+ Oscillator | |X-+ Mixer | |----------------| |----------| | | | | | O-------+-----+-----O | | | | | | | | | ------------------ ------------ I also want to be able to determine to which NSViews the NSViews are connected using the drawn lines.   I have a property in my code where users can enter a timespan in HH:mm like 10:32 10:44 15:45 I want to round off in my property to the nearest 15mins but i dont have datetime here. I only need to do it with Timespan 10:32 to 10:30 10:44 to 10:45 15:45 to 15:45 01:02 to 01:00 02:11 to 02:15 03:22 to 03:25 23:52 to 00:00 Tried all these solutions but they involve Datetime in them How can I round up the time to the nearest X minutes? Is there a simple function for rounding a DateTime down to the nearest 30 minutes, in C#? DotNet Roundoff datetime to last 15 minutes

• Why would you use a MyObject[] internally, but expose a List<MyObject>?

  I have come across a class that has an immutable property: MyObject[] allObjs The property is initialized like this: List<MyObject> objs = createAllMyObjects(); allObjs = objs.toArray(new MyObject[objs.size()]); When it is exposed through the accessor, it's done as a List: public List<MyObject> getAllMyObjects() { return Collections.unmodifiableList(Arrays.asList(allObjs)); } Why would a programmer do this? Is there a benefit that I don't know about? Performance is not a concern, as the array of objs will only ever number in a few dozen elements. It seems that we are going round and round in circles. The class is a sort of factory, so it's got a private constructor and exposes only static methods (not sure if this could be a reason for the madness).

  I'm currenty trying to port Ubuntu Touch to the Galaxy s4 International LTE (GI9505/ jfltexx). I've come to the point where I need to create a UCM directory but I don't know where and how I should call it. By "looking at /usr/share/alsa/ucm/apq8064-tabla-snd-card/" is the local Ubuntu PC directory or a directory on the downloaded CM meant? Same thing for "/proc/asound/cards" which should give a hint about what the directory should be called. 0 [PCH ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH HDA Intel PCH at 0xfb200000 irq 51 1 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia HDA NVidia at 0xfb080000 irq 17 I dont think the directory should be called anything like this.   Microsoft SSIS Balanced Data Distributor (BDD) is a new SSIS transform. This transform takes a single input and distributes the incoming rows to one or more outputs uniformly via multithreading. The transform takes one pipeline buffer worth of rows at a time and moves it to the next output in a round robin fashion. It’s balanced and synchronous so if one of the downstream transforms or destinations is slower than the others, the rest of the pipeline will stall so this transform works best if all of the outputs have identical transforms and destinations. E.g: 1.1.1.1 A example.com 1.1.1.2 A example.com 1.1.1.3 A example.com But how does webbrowsers react if the first host (1.1.1.1) is down (unreachable)? do they try the second host (1.1.1.2) or do they return a error message to the user? Are there any difference between the most popular browsers? If I implement my own application, I can implement so that the second is used in case the first is down, so it's possible. And this would be very helpful to create a fault tolerant website.

QUESTION What are the scenarios in which performances will be best if keepAliveEnabled = false keepAliveEnabled = true Reference From Load Balancing By default, the BasicHttpBinding sends a connection HTTP header in messages with a Keep-Alive value, which enables clients to establish persistent connections to the services that support them. This configuration offers enhanced throughput because previously established connections can be reused to send subsequent messages to the same server. However, connection reuse may cause clients to become strongly associated to a specific server within the load-balanced farm, which reduces the effectiveness of round-robin load balancing. If this behavior is undesirable, HTTP Keep-Alive can be disabled on the server using the KeepAliveEnabled property with a CustomBinding or user-defined Binding.

  I need an Algorithm/Design Pattern that allows me to try to get the maximum number of rules followed. So I have a couple teams and I need to pair them with a referee and against each other into a round robin. There a rules on who can compete with who and who can judge who so I need to find the configuration that satisfies the most of these. Some rules are more important than others and are "worth more" when evaluating "what satisfies the most of them" There probably isn't a algorithm for this, but is there a design pattern that could help me maximize my chances of finding this configuration?

  I'm writing an app that does something like a custom number (licence) place generator tool where if I ask for the plate "robin" it will suggest I try: r0bin rob1n r0b1n Are there any published algorithms which can do this? It has to be able to handle replacing single letters with multiples, e.g. m with rn and vise-versa and not fall over if it replaces an i with an l then comes to check the l and replaces it back to an i. The list of what gets swapped with what is going to be user input but I'm not expecting a huge list, possibly 10 pairs at most. I'll be implementing this in Ruby or Python but I should be able to convert code from any other language.

• Why is /dev/rfcomm0 giving PySerial problems?

  I am connecting my Ubuntu box to a wireless readout setup over Bluetooth. I wrote a Python script to send the serial information through /dev/rfcomm0. The script connects fine and works for a few minutes, but then Python will start using 100% CPU and the messages stop flowing through. I can open rfcomm0 in a serial terminal and communicate through it by hand just fine. When I open it through a terminal it seems to work indefinitely. Also, I can swap the Bluetooth receiver for a USB cable, and change the port to /dev/ttyUSB0, and I don't get any problems over time. It seems either I'm doing something wrong with rfcomm0 or PySerial doesn't handle it well. Even when the BluetoothError arises, the "connected" light on the receiver stays illuminated, and it is not until I power-cycle to receiver that I can reconnect. I'm not sure how to approach this problem. It's odd that the connection would work fine for a few minutes (seemingly a random amount of time) and then seize up. In case it helps, the Bluetooth receiver is a BlueSmirf Silver from Sparkfun. Do I need to be trying to maintain the connection from the receiver end or something?

• UV texture mapping with perspective correct interpolation

  I am working on a software rasterizer for educational purposes and I am having issues with the texturing. The problem is, only one face of the cube gets correctly textured. The rest are stretched edges: You can see the running program online here. I have used cartesian coordinates, and all I do is interpolate the uv values along the scanlines. The general formula I use for interpolating the uv coordinates is pretty much the one I use for the z-buffering interpolation and looks like this (in this case for horizontal scanlines): u_Slope = (right.u - left.u) / (triangleRight_x - triangleLeft_x); v_Slope = (right.v - left.v) / (triangleRight_x - triangleLeft_x); //[...] new_u = left.u + ((currentX_onScanLine - triangleLeft_x) * u_Slope); new_v = left.v + ((currentX_onScanLine - triangleLeft_x) * v_Slope); Then, when I add each point to the pixel buffer, I restore z and uv: z = (1/z); uv.u = Math.round(uv.u * z *100);//*100 because my texture is 100x100px uv.v = Math.round(uv.v * z *100); Then I turn the u v indexes into one index in order to fetch the correct pixel from the image data (which is a 1 dimensional px array): var index = texture.width * uv.u + uv.v; //and the rest is unimportant imagedata[index].RGBA bla bla The interpolation formula is correct considering the consistency of the texture (including the straight stripes). However, I seem to get quite a lot of 0 values for either u or v. Which is probably why I only get one face right. Furthermore, why is the texture flipped horizontally? (the "1" is flipped) I must get some sleep now, but before I get into further dissecting of every single value to see what goes wrong, Can someone more experienced guess why might this be happening, just by looking at the cube? "I have no idea what I'm doing" (it's my first time implementing a rasterizer). Did I miss an important stage? Thanks for any insight.   I have been with Oracle for 5 years now and one thing that I have found that there is never a shortage of here is - Variety. Over the last 5 years I have had the opportunity to work on projects across various countries, across various technologies and skill-sets and also across various level of seniority. No two days are the same. One of the projects I was fortunate to be involved in occurred last year and it is one of the ones that is closest to me. Last year I was able to take responsibility for our 2011 Graduate Recruitment drive in Australia. Two weeks ago I went to Sydney to meet our Graduates who started in February 2011 with us and it was great to see them come to the end (or beginning actually) of our journey together. I am excited at the potential of what our Graduates careers will develop into here with us. I remember at our interviewing last year trying to explain life in Oracle, it is great to see those same Graduates with us now learning and developing life and business skills that I hope they will take with them in their professional careers. I was talking to one of my colleagues this week who mentioned the excitement and energy that our new Graduates bring is infectious, and I agree it really is. Our Graduates have a big learning curve ahead of them and they are about to start going on rotations into some of our Business Groups - but I think it is a great experience to see how a global company operates and pulls together to achieve results together. Here is a picture we took the other week of this year's Oracle Graduates (if any of our Graduates are reading this blog - it was great seeing you in NSW and I do wish you all the success here at Oracle) Once again Oracle's Graduate Program will be running in 2011 in Australia (Graduates will start in Jan/Feb 2012).
