• Laptop connects to other network but not to my home wireless

  My home network's wireless SSID is say "XYZ" I also have an ethernet wire from the same router. I have two laptops A and B Earlier both A and B were able to connect to my home internet through the ethernet and wireless. Suddenly, the laptop B can no longer connect to XYZ or through ethernet. When I do plug the wire, i get the connection icon all green but when I try to access any web page it errors out (page not found) But strangely laptop B connects to my neighbours wireless SSID "ABC". I have also tested laptop B with other networks and it connects fine. Laptop A and many other devices still connect fine with my home wireless "XYZ" Strange thing is when my laptop B connects wireless through XYz, it gets the IP address but then none of the browsers (chrome,firefox, IE) can show any web pages. What settings should I be checking on laptop B that is preventing it to connect to my home internet. Thank you

• What type of wireless adapter for Verizon Fios?

  I have verizon fios internet service. I believe they use a Wireless G router, but I just have one question. I currently am using a 54mbps wireless pci adapter in my Windows 7 custom build. It drops the internet connection all the time and is starting to get very irritating. I'm thinking about buying a new one, but all the 300mbps cards on newegg are wireless n. So my question is, will a wireless n network adapter make a difference with a wireless g router?

• Wireless only connects to Google

  I am using a netgear wireless router to connect to create a wireless network. When connected to the router via an Ethernet cable everything works correctly. When connecting to the router via wireless only Google can be accessed. I've done searches via Google using random words to make sure that it is not a cached page, and these all work. However, trying to connect to any non Google domain the page fails to load. I've accessed the connection with two different laptops, both are running Windows Vista. The network connection is strong on both, but the issue persists for both. Edit: I have configured the wireless networks name and password, and connect to that using the credentials I have defined. I am sure I am not connecting to a neighbors wireless network. Edit2: Typing in the direct IP address for CNN.com ( http://157.166.255.19 ) would not resolve.

• Wireless slow, but very odd

  I have a HP Pavilion dv6 laptop, internet through the wireless timeouts. Even though it connects fine to the AP/router. The computer had a virus (searchnu?) and I backed up the usual and restored the laptop to factory image. Problem is after the restore the internet through the wireless the same still... and connected via wired and everything worked fine. I was able to update the whole system. Internet worked perfect, speed great. But the wireless still was pitiful. Ping tests with wireless are interesting: Google= 18ms Gmail= 18ms Yahoo= 1023ms 8.8.8.8=30ms Microsoft= Request Timed Out Bing= Request Timed Out msn= Request Timed Out even though I get 18ms with google, the pages take a long time to load. Is this a root kit? is it the wireless card in the laptop?

• Linux will not activate wireless after device has been re-enabled

  Using a Eee 900A netbook by Asus. By pressing Fn + F2, I can disable or enable the wireless chip on the netbook, a blue LED indicates the status. I've been able to connect to wireless networks just fine with this netbook. However, if the wireless chip ever becomes disabled, I have to reboot to get my network connection back. This generally happens when suspending. For some reason the LED will be off and I have to hit Fn + F2 for it to light up again. However, after doing so, Linux will not reconnect to the network. It simply changes the wireless status from "wireless is disabled" to "device not ready". Even worse, I've recently had issues with the chip being enabled at boot, thus making it nearly impossible to get connected. I've searched around on-line but haven't found much of anything useful on this. This happens on all kinds of different distros including Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook, EeeBuntu 4 beta, Jolicloud and Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook.

• Can't get wireless on macbook pro 8,2

  I'm a linux Newb, and I have tried several of the fixes listed to try and get my wifi drivers to work, but to no avail. Does anyone here know why this isn't working for me, or better yet, how to fix it?   My motherboard is gigabyte ga-g1975x-c with integrated audio "Creative Sound Blaster Live 24-bit". I have installed Ubuntu 10.10, and there was no sound at all. Alsa drivers was already installed. Finally after long searching, i have found how to make my sound work. /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf: options snd-ca0106 subsystem=0x10121102 //i have added this line and restart After restarting my speakers and microfon works fine. Maybe somebody knows different/better subsystem code for my sound card???

  When I tried to connect at my mother's house and then my brother's house; the little connection icon would circle forever before eventually prompting for password. I have triple checked all network keys & then some. Even with my home network I now have to revert to 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx (dual boot) or wired Ethernet. Not even sure where to start trouble shooting TBH? My card is a Edimax EW-7108PCg PCMCIA card which I bought for it's out the box Linux compatibility. Hardware is an IBM Thinkpad T21.

• wireless connection will not authenticate with verizon adsl router

  hello, i have ubunto 10.10 running on an old dell xps system. when i set it up i had internet through my home wifi router on my cable modem. now the dell is at another home with an ADSL wifi router from verizon. we have entered the ssid and wep key as given from the adsl router. the other windows computers connect with the wep key and automatic detection. the ubuntu dell detects the connection but does not autenticate, keeps asking for wep key. i have tried diferent settings regarding wep, wpa, wep with hex and asci, still no results. what am i doing wrong? help please. thanks.

• Help identifying device and driver for 0bda:1724

  I've got a new Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13. The onboard lan/bluetooth device is identified in Linux as 0bda:1724 (via lsusb). No network peripherals are reported from lspci. From the interwebs, the vendor:product above looks to be RT2573, however, in Windows, the device is identified as RTL8723A. Unfortunately, I have followed both roads, trying rt2500usb, rt2x00usb, and rtl8723e. I have emailed Realtek asking them for help but so far my email has fallen on deaf ears.   Im having problems connecting my wifi in Ubuntu 13.04 So i was wondering if filling in the data manually ie: the IPv4, IPv6, the SSID and BSSID info etc. I did try this before but maybe i put in the wrong data or maybe not enough Would that make it work??   I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 along with Windows 7 on the same laptop - Dell Vostro 3560. Now, on Windows 7 I can access to different wi-fi networks. However, when I am logging onto the Ubuntu section (after re-starting my laptop) - an error message appears: Disconnected - you are now offline When I take a look at my network menu (in the upper bar on the screen), I see that no network is found (and I have a few of them in the area. ). I tried to look around but really could not find a concrete practical solution to this specific problem, would appreciate any solution from anyone out there that had this problem and solved it.

• Atheros 9250 wireless card keeps on disconnecting

  So I bought a Lenovo G575 laptop for learning purposes and found that the connection just simply disconnects if i'ts in use for downloading and it also does disconnect in every 2-5 minutes while browsing.I tested the card with Win7, it worked nicely.Since then I searched through all the topics connected to this card, also tried using older distros, Maverick ended up with the same results as the actual 12.04 distribution.I dont think it's the router cause i could access it from Win7.It's causing me a trouble using an external usb, cause it's taken from another PC in the house.I would be really grateful if someone could explain what should i do to fix it.   after having installed ubuntu 13.04 i can not connect to the internet wirelessly or wired? can only connect to internet by using "try ubuntu" via ethernet cable, ive tried seeking help in so many different ways yet getting no positive outcome at all, will someone please explain why i can only connect with ethernet while i have the cd in the tray? ive also tried downloading b43 drivers to connect to the internet but apparently i dont have enough disk space, what is going on here? i have the disk in the tray now at the screen where you can either try or install, if someone could give me a step by step from here it would probably cut out all this hassle of me not knowing whats going on

  I've been experiencing this perhaps slightly odd bug. It works flawlessly in Lucid, but not in Maverick and Natty. I find it seems to work when I'm booting a partition everyday (as I do for my main 10.10 partition) but for my 11.04 testing partition it's a real pain - usually refusing to connect. So given that I have both a working (10.04) and not-working (10.10 and 11.04) installs, how can I troubleshoot my problem?

  Hi, I have a Samsung N150 Netbook and I installed Unity 11.04 to make some tests. But some functions do not work like backlight and vertical scroll on the touchpad. There are drivers for samsung notbooks and I know that there is a PPA. But not for Natty. Will the drivers be avalible some day in the kernel by default? Will Canonical add these drivers in the kernel, if the Kernel developers wont? I think this would be very usefull because Unity is great for Netbooks and Samsung Netbooks are really nice.

  First I would like agree one thing that this is fully for Ubuntu, not for BackTrack. However I'm posting my BackTrack question here since I find similar problems in backtrack forum are being unanswered and Linux/Unix site of StackExchange has very low attraction. I'm having USB wifi adapter (iBall Baton), having chipset RTL8191SU. It displays available wifi networks in Wicd manager. But while trying to connect it gives me bad password. When I'm trying to run airmon-ng it didn't returned me the monitor mode. I tried to replace with Ubuntu 12.10 drivers. But it totally nulled the device functionality. However I restored the drivers. I'm interested to compile drivers as if anyone indicate the methods. Awaiting ideas!

So I was wondering if filling in the data manually ie: the IPv4, IPv6, the SSID and BSSID info etc. I did try this before but maybe I put in the wrong data or maybe not enough. Would that make it work? I just don't know how to find out some of the data you need to put in? I'm new and it's confusing. Does anyone know the solution? • Bridge Laptop's Ethernet to Wireless

  The laptop wirelessly connects to my router, while the desktop is connected to the laptop with an ethernet wire. The desktop successfully can use the internet if I set the connection to be shared on the laptop. The problem is, I need the laptop to forward the desktop's packets across the link unmodified, so the desktop is on the same network as the router. The desktop needs its IP assigned by the router, so that I can access it from another computer as "192.168.1.8".
