  In my makefile I have command in variable like this substitute := perl -p -e 's/@([^@]+)@/"$(update_url)"/ge' > output.txt update_url := em:updateURL=\"http:\/\/bla\/update.rdf\"\n this works fine when I run command in target and I have newline, quotes however I need to replace $(update_url)" with environment variable, using expression like this #substitute := perl -p -e 's/@([^@]+)@/defined $$ENV{$$1} ? $$ENV{$$1} : $$1/ge' I am exporting those variables from makefile. This gives me literally em:updateURL=\"http:\/\/bla\/update.rdf\"\n on output file... so how to make the second version to give output like first version?

  I recently ran across a routine that looks something like this: procedure TMyForm.DoSomething(list: TList<TMyObject>; const flag: boolean); var local: integer; begin if flag then //do something else local := ExpensiveFunctionCallThatCalculatesSomething; //do something else for i := 0 to list.Count do if flag then //do something else if list[i].IntValue > local then //WARNING HERE //do something else end; This gives Variable 'local' might not have been initialized even though you can tell by reading the code that you won't hit that line unless the code branch that initializes it has run. Now, I could get rid of this warning by adding a useless local := 0; at the top of the procedure, but I wonder if there might not be a better way to structure this to avoid the issue. Anyone have any ideas?

  In my root view controller, in my didReceiveMemoryWarning method, I go through a couple data structures (which I keep in a global singleton called DataManager), and ditch the heaviest things I've got--one or maybe two images associated with possibly twenty or thirty or more data records. Right now I'm going through and setting those to nil. I'm also setting myself a boolean flag so that various view controllers that need this data can easily know to reload. Thusly: DataManager *data = [DataManager sharedDataManager]; for (Event *event in data.eventList) { event.image = nil; event.thumbnail = nil; } for (WondrMark *mark in data.wondrMarks) { mark.image = nil; } [DataManager sharedDataManager].cleanedMemory = YES; Today I'm thinking, though... and I'm not actually sure all that allocated memory is really being freed when I do that. Should I instead release those images and maybe hit them with a new alloc and init when I need them again later?

  I've got a PostgreSQL 8.4 table with an auto-incrementing, but nullable, integer column. I want to update some column values and, if this column is NULL then set it to its default value (which would be an integer auto-generated from a sequence), but I want to return its value in either case. So I want something like this: UPDATE mytable SET incident_id = COALESCE(incident_id, DEFAULT), other = 'somethingelse' WHERE ... RETURNING incident_id Unfortunately, this doesn't work - it seems that DEFAULT is special and cannot be part of an expression. What's the best way to do this?

• Regex for finding valid sphinx fields

  I'm trying to validate that the fields given to sphinx are valid, but I'm having difficulty. Imagine that valid fields are cat, mouse, dog, puppy. Valid searches would then be: @cat search terms @(cat) search terms @(cat, dog) search term @cat searchterm1 @dog searchterm2 @(cat, dog) searchterm1 @mouse searchterm2 So, I want to use a regular expression to find terms such as cat, dog, mouse in the above examples, and check them against a list of valid terms. Thus, a query such as: @(goat) Would produce an error because goat is not a valid term. I've gotten so that I can find simple queries such as @cat with this regex: (?:@)([^( ]*) But I can't figure out how to find the rest. I'm using python & django, for what that's worth.

  I'm learning C++ and I am writing a function that determines whether a string contains only alphanumeric characters and spaces. I suppose I am effectively testing whether it matches the regular expression ^[[:alnum:] ]+$ but without using regular expressions.   Hi, I'm trying to write a function that is gets two arrays and the name of another function as arguements. e.g. main.m: x=[0 0.2 0.4 0.6 0.8 1.0]; y=[0 0.2 0.4 0.6 0.8 1.0]; func2(x,y,'func2eq') func 2.m : function t =func2(x, y, z, 'func') //"unexpected matlab expression" error message here t= func(x,y,z); func2eq.m: function z= func2eq(x,y) z= x + sin(pi * x)* exp(y); Matlab tells gives me the above error message. I have a PDO mysql that updates 3 fields. $update = $mypdo->prepare("UPDATE tablename SET field1=:field1, field2=:field2, field3=:field3 WHERE key=:key"); But I want field3 to be updated only when $update3 = true; (meaning that the update of field3 is controlled by a conditional statement) Is this possible to accomplish with a single query? I could do it with 2 queries where I update field1 and field2 then check the boolean and update field3 if needed in a separate query. //run this query to update only fields 1 and 2 $update_part1 = $mypdo->prepare("UPDATE tablename SET field1=:field1, field2=:field2 WHERE key=:key"); //if field3 should be update, run a separate query to update it separately if ($update3){ $update_part2 = $mypdo->prepare("UPDATE tablename SET field3=:field3 WHERE key=:key"); } But hopefully there is a way to accomplish this in 1 query?

• Check if there are any repeated elements in an array recursively

  I have to find recursively if there is any repeated element in an integer array v. The method must have the following signature: boolean hasRepeatedElements(int[] v) I can't see any way of doing that recursively without having to define another method or at least another overload to this method (one that takes for example the element to go after or something). At first I thought about checking for the current v if there is some element equal to the first element, then creating a new array with L-1 elements etc but that seems rather inefficient. Is it the only way? Am I missing here something?

To keep the window and its contents alive rather than killing it by handling the FormClosing event, cancel the event and simply hide the form. That's fine but at close of the application I need to actually close the window. I implemented the below but it feels kludgey. Is there a simpler, more clever way to handle this situation? (The form's controller calls KillForm explicitly after it receives a closing event from the main window.)   I'm looking for a very simple algorithm for computing the polygon intersection/clipping. That is, given polygons P, Q, I wish to find polygon T which is contained in P and in Q, and I wish T to be maximal among all possible polygons. I don't mind the run time (I have a few very small polygons), I can also afford getting an approximation of the polygons' intersection (that is, a polygon with less points, but which is still contained in the polygons' intersection). But it is really important for me that the algorithm will be simple (cheaper testing) and preferably short (less code). edit: please note, I wish to obtain a polygon which represent the intersection. I don't need only a boolean answer to the question of whether the two polygons intersect.

• Client-side session timeout redirect in ASP.Net

  I want to build a way to automatically redirect users to Timeout.aspx when their session expires due to inactivity. My application uses forms authentication and relies heavily on update panels within the same aspx page for user interaction, so I don't want to simply redirect after a page-level timer expires. For the same reason, I can't use '<meta http-equiv="refresh"/>' What I want to do is create a simple ajax web service with a method called IsSessionTimedOut(), that simply returns a boolean. I will use a javascript timer to periodically call the method, and if it returns true, then redirect to Timeout.aspx. However, I don't want calling this method to reset the session timeout timer, or the session would never time out because of the service call. Is there a clean way to avoid this catch-22? Hopefully there is an easy solution that has so far eluded me.
