  • How to do rolling balances in Linq2SQL

    Given an account with a list of transactions I would like to output a query that shows each transaction with the rolling balance (just like you would see on an online banking account). TRANSACTIONS - ID - DATE - AMOUNT Here is what I created in T-SQL however was wondering if this can be translated to linq2sql code? select T.ID, convert(char(10), T.DATE, 101) as 'DATE', T.AMOUNT, (select sum(O.AMOUNT) from TRANSACTIONS O where O.DATE < T.DATE or (O.DATE = T.DATE and O.ID <= T.ID)) 'BALANCE' from TRANSACTIONS as T where T.DATE between @pStartDate and @pEndDate order by T.DATE, T.ID Alternatively I guess my other option is to just call a stored procedure for these kind of results. However, I have Services which call Repositories and didn't really want to put the sproc call in the Repository.

  • Is a switch statment ok for 30 or so conditions?

    I am in the final stages of creating an MP4 tag parser in .Net. For those who have experience with tagging music you would be aware that there are an average of 30 or so tags. If tested out different types of loops and it seems that a switch statement with Const values seems to be the way to go with regard to catching the tags in binary. The switch allows me to search the binary without the need to know which order the tags are stored or if there are some not present but I wonder if anyone would be against using a switch statement for so many conditionals. Any insight is much appreciated.

    In C#, what's the best way to get the 1st digit in an int? The method I came up with is to turn the int into a string, find the 1st char of the string, then turn it back to an int. int start = Convert.ToInt32(curr.ToString().Substring(0, 1)); While this does the job, it feels like there is probably a good, simple, math-based solution to such a problem. String manipulation feels clunky. Edit: irrespective of speed differences, mystring[0] instead of Substring() is still just string manipulation

  • C++ Structure within itself?

    I've been trying to port this code to python, but there is something I do not quite understand in C++ (I do know a bit of C++ but this is beyond me): typedef struct huffnode_s { struct huffnode_s *zero; struct huffnode_s *one; unsigned char val; float freq; } huffnode_t; What I don't get is how huffnode_s can be within itself, I've never seen this before and don't quite understand it. What does this mean, and if someone can, what would be the python equivalent?

    I'm trying to compile a program in C on OS X 10.9 with GCC 4.9 (experimental). For some reason, I'm getting the following error at compile time: gcc: fatal error: stdio.h: No such file or directory I then tried a simple Hello World program: #include <stdio.h> int main(int *argc, const char *argv[]) { printf("Hello, world!"); return 0; } Again, upon running gcc -o ~/hello ~/hello.c, I got the same error. I'm using an experimental version of gcc, but it seems implausible that there would be a release which generated errors upon importing stdio. What could be causing this issue, and how can it be fixed?

    The problem can be reproduced using VS 2013 Express. It crashed when internal vector implementation tried to deallocate the original vector. However, the problem can solved by using 'new' instead of 'malloc'.     I'm following the tuto: http://zetcode.com/tutorials/gtktutorial/firstprograms/ It works but each time I double click on the executable,there is a console which I don't want it there. How do I get rid of that console? I tried this: add_executable(Cmd WIN32 cmd.c) But got this fatal error: MSVCRTD.lib(crtexew.obj) : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _WinMain@16 referenced in function ___tmainCRTStartup Cmd.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals While using gcc directly works: gcc -o Cmd cmd.c -mwindows .. I'm guessing it has something to do with the entry function: int main( int argc, char *argv[]),but why gcc works? How can I make it work with cmake?

    Hi, I'd like to make a textbox that accepts only numbers, but not integer, but rather double. I've read here about e.Handled = Not Char.IsDigit(e.KeyChar) and it works, but again, it can be used only for integer, since it declines decimal point. Another thing I've read here is If Not Double.TryParse(TextBox2.Text, value) Then .... and it would work fine, except that it allows only decimal comma instead of point. I don't know whether it's because of my location settings (Hungary, we use commas instead of points), but I don't have any other idea how to solve my problem, and the SQL server I send my data uses decimal point.     What are the rules? OTOH the simple case seems to imply the new type is the last thing on a line. Like here Uchar is the new type. typedef unsigned char Uchar; But a function pointer is completely different. Here the new type is pFunc: typedef int (*pFunc) (int); I can't think of any other examples offhand but I have come across some very confusing usages. So are there rules or are people just suppose to know from experience that this is how it is done because they have seen it done this way before? ALSO: What is the scope of a typedef. In my Javascript I call ctx.getImageData(x, y, w, h) and pass the resulting object to my macruby code (though if you know a solution in objc I am also very interested). There I'm trying to create a NSBitmapImageRep object so that I can then save to an image format the user desires.     i'm trying to put large amount of data in a java me application for a BlackBerry mobile and i noticed that the max file size to be accepted in BlackBerry is 150 KB, by the way i'm developping the application in arabic language so i'm converting every litter to his corresponding unicode so every char gets to 6 chars so its another big problem, some ppl told me that i can write arabic as arabic letters without the need to write its unicode, by viewing the mobile form as an html page, my problem is that i dont know how to view the page as html page and what is XMLParser ?? can anyone help me to get all this together, cos i really need some serious help thank you alot Hesham

    Hi, I have two tables. they looks like as follows: Id (int) Tags char(128). the column Tags in table A does not have value. It is empty. The column Tags in table B has value. What I want to copy the Tags in table B to corresponding place of table A. the mapping is based on Id. My sql query is: update A INNER JOIN B set A.Tags = B.Tags where A.Id = B.Id There are about 2,000,000 rows in table A, and 50,000 rows in table B. The update seems very slow.... Could anyone tell me how to make it run faster?
