• Android Out of memory regarding png image

  I have a jpg image in my app that shows correctly. In my listview i'd like to make the image more transparent so it is easier to see the text. I changed the image to a png format and altered it's opacity in GIMP. Now that the new image is in the app drawable folder. • JSF (and friends) tags vs. traditional html tags

  So this question came up today and I didn't have a specific or scientific answer. What are the costs associated with using jsf (or tomahawk, faclets, etc., etc.) tags in place of traditional html tags. My gut reaction is that you should use jsf tags in situations where you need the additional functionality they provide, and use traditional tags when you don't. Also I feel like jsf tags would require more resources (since the server has to take them and rerender them as html anyways) than html. Does anybody know what the cost actually is (as far as time and memory)? Also useful information is what is the convention that is in use, pure jsf or a mixture of the two?

Specifically I am stumped in the vicinity of these topics: How do you deal with situations where a model's resources are available to both the public and the Admin? i.e. A User model where anyone can create users, login, etc but only the admin can view users, delete/update them, etc. What is the proper convention for routing? • OpenId with Desktop Application ?

  We're using an API from a provider; in their next version, they would provide an OpenId server but mostly the users are using their desktop application. An other website we're building would be opened from this application and we supposedly would connect with openid to access the resources stored in this provider. Still I don't understand how this would work if user is already authenticated with the desktop, will they have to authenticate an other time ? What happens if they close their browser and reopen it, will they have to to do it again ?

• C# - .WAV Playback Randomly High Pitch

  For some reason, when a WAV file is played back using the snippet below, it randomly plays back screwy, like a high pitch noise. It doesn't happen all the time, just randomly. It seems to happen more often when it is played back more frequently. The WAV properties are below along with the code snippet I am using. WAV Properties: Bit Rate - 750kbps Audio Sample Size - 16 bit Channels - 1 (mono) Audio Sample Rate - 44kHz Audio Format - PCM Snippet: System.Media.SoundPlayer myPlayer = new System.Media.SoundPlayer(Captcha.Properties.Resources.sound1); myPlayer.Play(); Is this because of the way I am playing the file or the file itself? • Is it so bad to have heaps of elements in your DOM?

  I am making a real estate non interactive display for their shop window. I have kicked jCarousel into doing what I want: Add panels per AJAX Towards the end of the current set, go and AJAX some new panels and insert them This works fine, but it appears calling jQuery's remove() on the prior elements cause an ugly bump. I'm not sure if calling hide() will free up any resources, as the element will still exist (and the element will be off screen anyway). I've seen this, and tried carousel.reset() from within a callback. It just clears out all the elements. This will be running on Google Chrome on Windows XP, and will solely by displaying on LCD televisions. I am wondering, if I can't find a reasonable solution to remove the extra DOM elements, will it bring my application to a crawl, or will Chrome do some clever garbage collecting? Or, how would you solve this problem? Thanks

  This must be a FAQ, but I can’t find a duplicate question! There are lot of different attributes that control what the WinForm Designer does with properties on a custom control, I am never clear on the one I should use in this case. I am looking for: Designer does not show property in grid Designer does not read value of property Designer does not set property to default value E.g. Designer behaves as if the property was not there. Designer does not complain if it has already done one of the above before the attributes were added (hard!) Background. The code that is giving me the problem is: this.eventListControl.FilterSets = ((SystList<FilterSet>)(resources.GetObject("eventListControl.FilterSets"))); The FilterSets property should never have been touched by the winforms designer; it is now not Serializable and MsDev falls over every time a form that used the eventListControl is changed!

• Zend Studio 7.1 PHPUnit Test Case wizard does not populate "Element to Test"

  When I follow the instructions in ZS documentation to create a phpunit test case, the wizard returns no objects to select on the "Element to Test" line. Selecting "browse" provides an empty dialog box. The PHPUnit path in my preferences shows "/Applications/zend/zs710/plugins/com.zend.php.phpunit_7.1.0.v20091120-0900/resources/library/". What else can I check to see why I cannot create a test case? I'm new to ZS and PHP, so I have no idea how to troubleshoot this. Thanks.

• How can I clear the appcache on the Google Chrome iPad app?

  I've written a little HTML5 based web app that I am trying to debug on the iPad using the Chrome for iPad app. I have added a cache.manifest file to my app which has some heavy caching in it of most static resources however since I am now wanting to debug the app I need a way to clear this cache. I know that on Chrome for Mac you can use: chrome://appcache-internals/ however this page does not exist in the iPad app of Chrome. The regular "Clear Browsing Data" does not empty the appcache —at least not in my case. Does anyone know how I can clear the appcache for the Chrome iPad app?

• Why are C, C++, and LISP so prevalent in embedded devices and robots?

  It seems that the software language skills most sought for embedded devices and robots are C, C++, and LISP. Why haven't more recent languages made inroads into these applications? For example, Erlang would seem particularly well-suited to robotic applications, since it makes concurrent programming easier and allows hot swapping of code. Python would seem to be useful, if for no other reason than its support of multiple programming paradigms. I'm even surprised that Java hasn't made a foray into general robotic programming. I'm sure one argument would be, "Some newer languages are interpreted, not compiled" - implying that compiled languages are quicker and use fewer computational resources. Is this still the case, in a time when we can put a Java Virtual Machine on a cell phone or a SunSpot? (and isn't LISP interpreted anyway?)

  HI All I need to write a scientific application in C++ doing a lot of computations and using a lot of memory. I have part of the job but due to high requirements in terms of resources I was thinking to start moving to OpenMPI. Before doing that I have a simple curiosity: If I understood the principle of OpenMPI is the developer that has the task of splitting the jobs over different nodes calling SEND and RECEIVE based on node available at that time. Do you know if it does exist some library or OS or whatever that has this capability letting my code reamain as it is now? Basically something that connects all computers and let share as one their memory and CPU? I am a bit confused because of the high material available on the topic. When this happens I want these threads to give up their resources (socket and db connections) and simply die, but without continuing to run anymore logic, eg: inserting anything into the DB. • Clojure for a lisp illiterate

  I am a lifelong object-oriented programmer. My job is primarily java development, but I have experience in a number of languages. Ruby gave me my first real taste of functional programming. I loved the features Ruby borrowed from the functional paradigm such as closures and continuations. Eventually, I graduated to Scala. This has been a great way to gradually learn to approach non-trivial problems in a functional manner. Now I am interested in Clojure. I know all the sexy features that make it enticing (software transactional memory, macros, etc.), but I just can't get used to "thinking in lisp". I've seen Rich Hickey's screencasts aimed at java programmers, but they are geared towards explaining language features and not approaching real world problems. I am looking for any advice or resources which have made this transition easier for others.

I really couldn't get any sort of feedback on the type of exam (implementation or generic) beside that it would test a few specific areas. Have you done anything like this? What sort of questions did they ask? What's a good way to prepare? I'll probably go in a couple weeks before school starts back up. • What's the correct way to represent a linear process in CocoaTouch (UIKit)?

  I need to represent a linear process (think wizard) in an iPad app. In principle I could use a UINavigationController and just keep pushing new controllers for each step of the process. But this seems rather inefficient since the process I'm modeling has no notion of navigating backwards so all previous views would pointlessly stay around and use up resources. At the moment I keep adding and removing a subview to one "master" viewcontroller and basically swapping out the contents. This works but feels rather clunky and I hope there is some nicer way to achieve this. Additionally there needs to be an animated transition between the views. (I have this working at the moment via beginAnimations / commitAnimations)

But to be honest I do not have any basic knowledges and everything started from scratch and referring to online tutorials a lot. Here is my question, I was trying to retrieve data from listview activity. There are two listview in my page using button. I was able to display the first listview but when it get data for the second listview, the data for first listview is disappeared because the page is refreshed, vice versa.
