• asp.net page flickers

  I have an asp.net webform. I have the background as an image,that when i aslo have a menu bar, when i click on an icon, it uses response.redirect() to redirect to a new page, but when it loads up the page, it seems like the background image is slow. I can see the backgroud as white first and then split seconds later the background image will load up, this causes an illusion of flickering when it redirects to a new page. How do i solve this problem? When i tested using visual studio web server, it dont flicker. I am using a background image in the master page hosted up on the internet.

• what are your biggest complaints about TFS as source-control?

  I've used TFS for about 18 months now and I'm really not excited about it. It seems like the worst of the current versions of SCMs on the market. I think this thread will help people decide if TFS is for them vs. other source control systems. While TFS does a lot more than that, I think that source control is so critical to software development that any system (or combination thereof) that you pick needs to consider source control first. So, feel free to sound off. Maybe it'll make us feel better and be informative at the same time.

• Final Integration Testing for Q.A.

  A medium sized rails app that our company has been working on is getting close to the end of development and we are going to start doing Q.A. testing on it. We've have been writing unit, functional and integration tests all along and our test coverage is about 99% (even though that really doesn't mean anything). We feel like we have a pretty good test suite but I was wondering if we should be writing final integration tests for every little action we are going to do during our Q.A. process. If so, would using Shoulda or Cucumber be a good idea? We haven't used either of those testing tools yet, but they sound really great. Any ideas or thoughts would be really helpful. Thanks

I guess that it makes no sense to store those on a separate table called advantages, because it will never be used to anything else despite display, and I fill it as too overkill. So I was thinking about creating a varchar255 field on this product table, and allow values to be inserted like: Very nice;Very good;Very cool On a free-form text input field. Then split those on a php array. My question is: Is it out there, a better approach ?

• Python preprocessing imports

  I am managing a quite large python code base (2000 lines) that I want anyway to be available as a single runnable python script. So I am searching for a method or a tool to merge a development folder, made of different python files into a single running script. The thing/method I am searching for should take code split into different files, maybe with a starting __init___.py file that contains the imports and merge it into a single, big script. Much like a preprocessor. Best if a near-native way, better if I can anyway run from the dev folder. I have already checked out pypp and pypreprocessor but they don't seem to take the point. Something like a strange use of __import__() or maybe a bunch of from foo import * replaced by the preprocessor with the code? Obviously I only want to merge my directory and not common libraries.

I wish to be able use the wildcard *.txt to be able to specific the text file name I wish to open (I'm thinking along the lines of something like "F:\text*.txt" ?), split the lines of the text file, then print the output.   Hi, i have an numpy array which represents multiple x-intervals of a function: In [137]: x_foo Out[137]: array([211, 212, 213, 214, 215, 216, 217, 218, 940, 941, 942, 943, 944, 945, 946, 947, 948, 949, 950]) as you can see, in x_foo are two intervals: one from 211 to 218, and one from 940 to 950. these are intervals, which i want to interpolate with scipy. for this, i need to adjust the spacing, e.g "211.0 211.1 211.2 ..." which you would normaly do with: arange( x_foo[0], x_foo[-1], 0.1 ) in the case of multiple intervals, this is not possible. so heres my question: is there a numpy-thonic way to do this in array-style? or do i need to write a function which loops over the whole array and split if the difference is 1? thanks!

  I set the width of a textarea to 100%, but now I need to know how many characters can fit in one row. I'm trying to write a javascript function to auto-grow/shrink a textarea. I'm trying to keep from using jquery since I just need this one function. My logic is to rows = textarea.value.split('\n'), iterate through rows and count += rows[i].length/textarea.cols, then count += rows.length, and finally textarea.rows = count. The only problem is that count is too large because textarea.cols is too small.

  I'm fairly new to Rails and Rack, but this guy had a seemingly straightforward write-up about using Rack to implement dynamic session domain middleware. The code looks good to and I've implemented it here on my local machine, but I'm still not able to transcend top level domains on a single login.   I want to build a speech recognition engine in ruby. I know i'll never get there, doing it just for fun. I need to get data for the frequencies of the sound stored in a wav file to compare with data i already have of different sounds that i want to recognize. I will write the code in ruby but i dont think there are any libraries for this written in ruby, they would be too slow if there were any anyway.   Hello, In asp.net is it a requirement to rebuild the whole page during every callback? For example my web page is split into three distinct areas and I have an update panel for each area. Lets say I want to update the third area, do I have to bother with any processing of the other two areas? For example lets say there is a grid view in area two. • Would Python's Twisted library be the best case for an observer type pattern?

  hi all, I'm developing a system where a queue will be filled with millions of items I need a process that reads items from the queue constantly and then sends those items out to registered clients. I'm thinking about using twisted for this, having the queue reader be a twisted server listening on a tcp port then clients can connect on that port and when an item is pulled from the queue the server writes it out to all the clients. Does that sound like something that twisted would be ideal for? Does anyone know of any sample code out there that may do something similar? thanks

  I want to ?reduce? the CPU usage/ROM usage/RAM usage - generally?, all system resources that my app uses - who doesn't? :) For this reason I want to split the preferences window from the rest of the application, and let the preferences window to run as ?independent? program. The preferences program ?should? write to a Property file(not a problem at all) and to send a "update signal" to the main program - which means it should call the update method (that i wrote) that found in the Main class. How can I call the update method in the Main program from the preferences program? To put it another way, is a way to build preferences window that take system resources just when the window appears? Is this approach - of separating programs and let them talk to each other (somehow) - the right approach for speeding up my programs?

  Does that sound right to anyone???? I have an ItemsControl that displays data from a custom object that implements iNotifyPropertyChanged. The DataTemplate consists of: Border 3 buttons 5 textboxes An ellipse A Bindable RichTextBox (custom class that inherits from RichTextBox... so I could make Document a dependency property (to support binding)) Several grids and stackpanels for layout It uses: Styles (stored in a resource dictionary higher up the tree) Styles affect: colors, thicknesses, and text properties: which are data-bound to a "settings" class that implements iNotifyPropertyChanged, so the user can change display settings That's it! So what gives? I've also noticed that when I empty and remove the ItemsControl, memory isn't freed. over 5000 instances of "CommandBindingCollection" and "WeakReference" are CREATED (using ANTS profiler). And huge number of EffectiveValueEntry objects are created too. So really, what gives!!! :-) Thanks for your insight! Management needs this project soon but in its current state, it's unreleasable.

  I'm using QT Creator on 3 platforms to create platform independent software. However, I'm getting a segmentation fault with the exact same code in Windows only. That doesn't sound so bad because I can use the debugger. Except, no matter how many breakpoints I set or where I set them, they are ignored by the debugger. I am 100% sure that my control flow is going through the breakpoint but not breaking the flow. Any thoughts? How can that happen?

  I have a membership based website and im planning on implementing a referral system. My website is credit based, the idea is that if User X refers User Y, then User X gets 100 bonus credits. Has anybody built a referral system before and if so what obstacles should I bear in mind? I've had a snoop round SO tonight but couldn't find any suitable answers. My theory is to give each user a random string which is generated and stored in the DB when they sign up, The user will then be presented with a URL incl. that string which when they pass to somebody (User Z), User Z is then sent to a page, the page then uses the GET method to gather the Random string and update the DB Row they currently occupy, does this sound feasible or could it easily be breached?
