  • iPhone SDK - keep data in modal view

    - by swalkner
Hi all, I've got a modal view loaded the following way: ModalViewController *modalController = [[ModalViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"ModalViewController" bundle:nil]; searchController.delegate = self; [self.navigationController presentModalViewController:modalController animated:YES]; [modalController release]; When the modal view appears, "viewDidLoad" is called. When I dismiss the modal view via [self.navigationController dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; the method "viewDidUnload" ISN'T called, but the next time I let the modal view appear, "viewDidLoad" is called again. My problem now is that I'm creating an NSArray in the modal view's "viewDidLoad" - and as I'm fetching the data from the web, I would like to do it only once. But this way, it's fetched every time... Any hints how I could achieve that the data is only fetched once? I would really like to do it in the modal view and not in the parent and provide the array as parameter to the modal view... Thanks!

  • Best practices and Design Patterns for iPhone forms?

    - by cannyboy
Part of the app I'm making requires the user to fill in a multi-page form, the contents of which will be saved locally (perhaps using Core Data). Are there any best practices for this? This form just includes text fields. I guess the options are UITextFields, or perhaps a UIWebView, with the fields as part of an html form? Are there are any best practices, or design patterns, which are good for this kind of thing?

    - by Brennan Kastner
    This below is my code, when it gets to the end of the function, the debugger throws an EXC_BAD_ACCESS error and when I check the website's logs, the url was never visited. If anyone could help me fix this issue, it would be greatly appreciated: -(IBAction)submitEmail:(id)sender { NSString *urlStringRaw = [[NSString alloc] init]; urlStringRaw = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"http://vedev.org/AnonMail/sendEmail.php?from=%@&to=%@&subject=%@&body=%@", from.text, to.text, subject.text, bodyContent.text]; NSString *urlString = [urlStringRaw stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; [urlStringRaw release]; NSURL * url = [NSURL URLWithString:urlString]; [urlString release]; NSURLRequest *requestObj = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url]; [url release]; NSURLConnection *connection = [NSURLConnection connectionWithRequest:requestObj delegate:nil]; [connection release]; [requestObj release]; }

  • iPhone animated banner : which framework to use

    - by Julien
Hi folks, I'm willing to create a little frame to display animated ads in my app. It could be simple little animations, or "3D" transition between ads, or combination of both. I'm not familiar with graphic frameworks, I just used CoreGraphics, which I think is not optimized for that. I thought of OpenGL, but maybe that's too much and takes too much ressources just for this little thing. What do you think ?

  • iPhone NSMutableDictionary setObject forKey after initWithContentsOfFile

    - by andrew
so here's my function + (void) AddAddress:(NSString*)ip:(NSString*)mac { NSMutableDictionary* currentAddresses = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:[self filePath:ADDRESSES_FILE]]; [currentAddresses setObject:mac forKey:ip]; [Configuration Write:currentAddresses]; [currentAddresses release]; } [self filePath:ADDRESSES_FILE] returns a string containing the full path of a file (ADDRESSES_FILE) located in the Documents. The file may not exist, in this case I want to just write an object to the dictionary and then write it down the problem is that when i do setObject forKey it doesn't add anything to the dict (if i just do alloc init to the dict, it works fine, but i want to read the records from the file, if there are any, and replace/add a record by using the AddAddress function)

  • Best way to display a background with a pattern in an iPhone/iPad app

    - by Dr Dork
Here's an example of the type of background image I'm talking about... Clearly, there's a pattern in it. My question is, if this were an iPad app and the background image was twice the size, would there be any significant benefits to taking advantage of this pattern by tiling the image? Or would it really make no difference in terms of performance and just be easier to load the entire image into a UIImageView? Thanks in advance for all your wisdom!

  • iPhone SDK 3.0 deprecation of UITableViewCell .text

    - by djt9000
Came across an SDK3.0 deprecation that I am having a bit of trouble tryinig to figure out. If my declaration of @property (nonatomic, retain) UIImage *rowImage; does not work, nor @property (nonatomic, readonly, retain) UIImage *rowImage; and I @synthesize rowImage; Do I need to write my own setter because @synthesize will not properly handle this? cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero reuseIdentifier:RootViewControllerCell] autorelease]; // Dpericated in SDK 3.0 // //cell.text = controller.title; //cell.image = controller.rowImage; // Using what the documentation says to use Error=== cell.textLabel = controller.title; Error=== cell.imageView = controller.rowImage; Error: Object cannot be set - Either readonly property or no setter found. Hope this makes sense, any help would be appreciated.

  • iPhone - a question about @property

    - by Roger
Hi, I am kind of newbie on Objective-C and I was looking at a code, trying to understand a few things, and I come across with this .h file: there was a declaration like that on the @interface section MyVideoClass *contrast_; then below we have @property (nonatomic, retain) MyVideoClass *contrast; @property (nonatomic, retain) FetchClass *fetchMe; The strange part is that the first has an underscrore after the name and the second one, doesn't. The other strange thing is that the guy has a call to these properties like this: FetchClass *fetchOne = [self.fetchMe contrast]; What kind of call is that? This seems pretty insane to me. I simply cannot understand what is going on here, but the code works. pretty insane. Can you guys explain me that? Forgive the stupid question, but I am still learning... thanks

I also created a detail view for the pins. Here comes the tricky part. I want to load some images from my db to the detail view but I don't know how to tell the pins appart so the right image goes to the right pin. Thanks in advance

  • TouchXML to read in twitter feed for iphone app

    - by Fiona
Hello there, So I've managed to get the feed from twitter and am attempting to parse it... I only require the following fields from the feed: name, description, time_zone and created_at I am successfully pulling out name and description.. however time_zone and created_at always are nil... The following is the code... Anyone see why this might not be working? -(void) friends_timeline_callback:(NSData *)data{ NSString *string = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:data encoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding]; NSLog(@"Data from twitter: %@", string); NSMutableArray *res = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; CXMLDocument *doc = [[[CXMLDocument alloc] initWithData:data options:0 error:nil] autorelease]; NSArray *nodes = nil; //! searching for item nodes nodes = [doc nodesForXPath:@"/statuses/status/user" error:nil]; for (CXMLElement *node in nodes) { int counter; Contact *contact = [[Contact alloc] init]; for (counter = 0; counter < [node childCount]; counter++) { //pulling out name and description only for the minute!!! if ([[[node childAtIndex:counter] name] isEqual:@"name"]){ contact.name = [[node childAtIndex:counter] stringValue]; }else if ([[[node childAtIndex:counter] name] isEqual:@"description"]) { // common procedure: dictionary with keys/values from XML node if ([[node childAtIndex:counter] stringValue] == NULL){ contact.nextAction = @"No description"; }else{ contact.nextAction = [[node childAtIndex:counter] stringValue]; } }else if ([[[node childAtIndex:counter] name] isEqual:@"created_at"]){ contact.date == [[node childAtIndex:counter] stringValue]; }else if([[[node childAtIndex:counter] name] isEqual:@"time_zone"]){ contact.status == [[node childAtIndex:counter] stringValue]; [res addObject:contact]; [contact release]; } } } self.contactsArray = res; [res release]; [self.tableView reloadData]; } Thanks in advance for your help!! • [iPhone app] Detecting which key has been pressed in UITextField

    - by Dough
Hi, I have an UITextField object in my view and want to launch a method when user press backspace button and textField is empty. First I have to do is to create a cursor storing text length, so when cursor changes from 1 to 0 there is nothing to do. The only way to launch the method is when text length is 0 - press backspace - remain to 0. How to catch the event of pressing the backspace key in my UITextField ? Thanks in advance !

  • iphone dev - how to catch exception 'NSRangeException'

    - by Brian
In my app I try to scroll a UITableView to the top once after I updated the content of the table. However, under some circumstance, my table is EMPTY. So I got the following exception: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSRangeException', reason: '-[UITableView scrollToRowAtIndexPath:atScrollPosition:animated:]: row (0) beyond bounds (0) for section (0).' how can I catch this exception? I tried NSIndexPath *indexPath = [NSIndexPath indexPathForRow:0 inSection:0]; if (indexPath != nil) { [EventTable scrollToRowAtIndexPath:indexPath atScrollPosition:UITableViewScrollPositionTop animated:YES]; } but it doesn't catch the exception because indexPath is not nil.

  • iPhone - Change entity class (NSManagedObject) to make them initializable

    - by ncohen
Hi everyone, I would like to use my custom NSManagedObject like a normal object (as well as its regular functions). Is it possible to modify the class in order to be able to initialize it like a normal object? [[myManagedObject alloc] init]; Thanks edit: to clarify the question, will it screw everything up if I change the @dynamic with @synthesize in the implementation?
