• Printing UTF-16 strings in JSP is outputted as HTML encoding (&#xxxx)

  Hello, When I try to print a UTF-16 string in JSP, specifically Hebrew, it ends up showing up as HTML encoding (&#xxxx). This problem occurs because I print an array of variables into the web page and then parse them. The variables are all UTF-16 strings, but once the servlet prints the variables, it becomes translated to HTML encoding. Is there any way to get rid of the encoding? Thanks in advance Edit for a bit more background: The JSP that I'm printing is not the entirety of the page. It's used in a manner I don't quite understand by a server app which prints the JSPs output into its built in page. As a result, I can't, for instance, use a tag because the will have already been placed somewhere else. This isn't a frame or anything like that. It's just redirected output.

• Java/Swing: Problem with key listener

  I have a search dialog with a JTextField that's being used as a search box. When the user types something, it searches the DB, shows the result in a JTable and selects the first item in it. If the first result is what they were looking for, I want to let them quickly accept the dialog, by pressing Enter (while the JTextField is focused). So I added a KeyListener to the JTextField and it's working OK. Now the problem: The user opens can open the dialog by pressing Enter when a "Search" button on the dialog's parent frame is focused. The dialog is displayed and the JTextField gets the keyReleased event (from the Enter key that displayed it), so it shows up and closes. If the user holds Enter down, then the JTextField receives the keyPressed, keyTyped and keyReleased events. How can I fix without resorting to ugly workarounds? Platform is Windows 7 x64, btw. • Can C/C++ compiler report struct member offset

  Hello, everyone. I'd like to ask, can compiler(e.g. Visual C++) generate a report(.txt) telling struct member offset for a struct/all structs? If so, it helps debugging quite a lot. For example, when you read disassembler code in the debugger, it can be easier to associate an offset value to a struct member. Also, it is better to have compiler report offset of each local variable on a function stack frame(e.g. the offset relative to ebp on an X86 machine). Thank you in advance.

• iPhone - Landscape Only App

  Hello all! I am trying to make an app that will only be viewed in Landscape. I have looked up some tutorials (albeit older ones) and have done the following: -set up the info.plist to include a key for uiinterfaceorientation -in the main view controller I have set the frame to be 480 x 320 Now, the first screen loads up ok. Everything is where it should be and whatnot. However, if I click a button that is set to present a modal view controller nothing happens. Everything is linked and coded correctly but nothing happens when I press the button. Am I doing something wrong with trying to force landscape? At it's basic, this question is a how do you effectively make an app that will only be in landscape mode? Thanks for any help.

• What are my options for streaming for silverlight?

  I would like to implement limited scope streaming (LAN, multicast, even broadcast) where the client is implemented in silverlight. More importantly, I would like to stream from a desktop OS, not a server OS. As a result, I can't use the MS media server, which I believe requires WS2003 or WS2008. Ideally the solution would have some sort of API so I can plug in or provide a custom frame source. If I need to encode my own video, how can I encode using H.264 or another Silverlight supported codec? if I need to implement my own server, where can I find information about how a client starts to receive a stream? thank you! I know, it's a lot of questions, but it basically boils down to "how do I stream from a non-server OS?"

For example how could I webscrape news from Jan 2014? I am able to do this on the webpage by altering button settings, but how can I do it from within R? I was also not able to collect the importance column data. Also are there better ways for collecting economic news from within R? I have looked on http://www.rseek.org/ but could not find anything.   I am trying to compute a rolling window (shifting by 1 day) covariance matrix for a number of assets. Say my df looks like this: df <- data.frame(x = 0:4, y = 5:9,z=1:5,u=4:8) How would a possible for loop look like if I want to calculate a covariance matrix on a rolling basis by shifting the rolling window by 1 day?   How can I create a plot title in ggplot2? Am I making a silly syntax error? The ggplot2 docs indicate that labs(title = 'foo') should work, but I can only get the arguments x='foo' and y='foo' to work with labs(). Neither ggtitle() nor title() worked either. • Conceptually, how does replay work in a game?

  I was kind of curious as to how replay might be implemented in a game. Initially, I thought that there would be just a command list of every player/ai action that was taken in the game, and it then 're-plays' the game and lets the engine render as usual. However, I have looked at replays in FPS/RTS games, and upon careful inspection even things like the particles and graphical/audible glitches are consistent (and those glitches are generally *in*consistent). So How does this happen. In fixed camera angle games I though it might just write every frame of the whole scene to a stream that gets stored and then just replays the stream back, but that doesn't seem like enough for games that allow you to pause and move the camera around. You'd have to store the locations of everything in the scene at all points in time (No?). So for things like particles, that's a lot of data to push which seems like a significant draw on the game's performance whilst playing.

I'd like to limit these widgets fairly strictly, so each would exist as an iframe kept on its own unique hostname: the widget with ID #47 would be accessible at w47.widgets.example.com, for example. It would be helpful, for permission-granting dialogs and the like, to allow the widget to call very specific methods explicitly granted by the parent window, without authorizing the iframe to do whatever it likes with the parent frame on the user's behalf. Is it possible for a parent document to explicitly allow certain method calls to a child document on a different host?

• How to save an image in it's original format?

  I am trying to figure out how I can get the original format of an image so that I can store it with the same encoding. It seems that the only way to save an Image is by using a BitmapEncoder but I don't know how I can get the correct format from the image. Example: Clipboard.GetImage() returns a InteropBitmap which doesn't seem to contain any information about the original format. I also tried using an Extension method: public static void Save(this BitmapImage image, System.IO.Stream stream) { var decoder = BitmapDecoder.Create(image.StreamSource, BitmapCreateOptions.PreservePixelFormat, BitmapCacheOption.Default); var encoder = BitmapEncoder.Create(decoder.CodecInfo.ContainerFormat); foreach (var frame in decoder.Frames) { encoder.Frames.Add(BitmapFrame.Create(decoder.Frames[0])); } encoder.Save(stream); } but the problem is that a) the ImageSource is not always a BitmapImage (Clipboard.GetImage()) for example and b) the image.StreamSource can be null in some cases (seems to be when the image is loaded via a relative Uri)

Note that this is not just a syntax issue, I also need to index new_referrals somehow so that I'm able to do this. I'd like to be able to store the search in a string so I can just refer to the string when I want to see a subset. x = read.table(textConnection(" cat1 cat2 value A Z 1 A Y 2 A X 3 B N 2"),header=T,strip.white=T) search_string="cat1== 'A' & cat2=='Z'" with(x,subset(x,search)) doesn't work. What I'd be looking for is the result of a search similar to the one below. with(x,subset(x,cat1=='A' & cat2=='Z')) I'd prefer not to just create multiple subsetted data frames at the start if another solution exists. Is there a simple way to do what I'm trying?

  Assume you want to read an image file in a common file format from the hard drive, change the color of one pixel, and display the resulting image to the screen, in C++. Which (open-source) libraries would you recommend to accomplish the above with the least amount of code? Alternatively, which libraries would do the above in the most elegant way possible? A bit of background: I have been reading a lot of computer graphics literature recently, and there are lots of relatively easy, pixel-based algorithms which I'd like to implement. However, while the algorithm itself would usually be straightforward to implement, the necessary amount of frame-work to manipulate an image on a per-pixel basis and display the result stopped me from doing it.

Is there any better way of acieveing this?

It seems that you're limited to using regular expressions and back-references to construct strings, without a search/replace functionality to replace every X with Y in {REQUEST_URI} before issuing a redirect.
