• Thread help with Android game

  I need some help dealing with three Threads in Android One thread is the main thread, the other is the GLThread, and the other is a WorkerThread I created to update the game state. The problem I have is they all need to access the same LinkedList of game objects. Both the GLThread and my WorkerThread only read from the LinkedList, so no problem there, but occasionally I have the main thread adding in another game object to the list. How can I manage this? I tried using synchronized in front of the functions involved but it really slows down the application. For some reason, just catching the errors and not rendering or updating the game state that frame, causes it to start lagging permanently. Anyone have any great ideas?

  A UIScrollView contains several UIView objects; how can I tell if a point on the screen not generated by touches is within a specific subview of the scrollview? so far atempts to determine if the point is in the subview always return the first subview in the subviews array of the parent scrollview, ie the coordinates are relative to the scrollview, not the window. • getting values by time difference in SQL

  I want to get the difference of two values within a time frame. so I have a table like this Data Table TimeStamp DataValue 2010-06-01 21 2010-06-03 33 2010-06-05 44 So I want to first get all data over the last month which I can do with something like. ([TimeStamp] < GETDATE()-0 and ([TimeStamp] > GETDATE()-31) But I want to see how much value added on over the course of the month. So it started at 21 and went to 44. So I would expect this example to to return 23 (as in 44-21). How would I build a query like this?

  For each level of factor I need to extract values aggregated over all subsets of data.frame except the current one. For example, there is a several subjects doing a reaction time task during several days, and I need to compute mean reaction time for all subjects and all days, but not including the subject for whom the mean is computed. Currently, I do it like this: library(lme4) ddply(sleepstudy, .(Subject, Days), summarise , avg_rt=mean(sleepstudy[sleepstudy$Subject!=Subject&sleepstudy$Days==Days,"Reaction"]), .progress="text") It works fine for small data sets, but for large ones it can be very slow. Is there a way to do it faster?

• Cannot step into .NET framework source with VS2008 SP1.

  Somehow my VS2008 SP1 has lost the ability to step into .NET framework sources. I've played around with checkboxes to no end; I've re-deleted the Symbol cache folder a dozen times; and I've tried all kinds of debug symbol servers. All it does is download some .PDB files, but when I try to select a stack frame in .NET, I always get the message about no source available and "do you want to view disassembly". What gives? Added: Web application; Windows Vista Business x32; .NET 3.5 SP1.

  I am trying to write some google map functionlity and playing around with javascript closures with an aim to try organise and structure my code better. • Settings cell selected background view removes backgroundview

• Programmatic binding of accelerators in wxPython

  I am trying to programmatically create and bind a table of accelerators in wxPython in a loop so that I don't need to worry about getting and assigning new IDs to each accelerators (and with a view to inhaling the handler list from some external resource, rather than hard-coding them). I also pass in some arguments to the handler via a lambda since a lot of my handlers will be the same but with different parameters (move, zoom, etc). • Finding data file location while using Microsoft Test Framework

  I have been using NUnit and now I am switching to the Microsoft Unit Test frame work. In my test project I have a folder called TestData and I kept all my test input data files there. I want to use that files for my unit testing. In my test code, I am using Application name space and assembly name space but I can not get to the data folder directly until unless I write a code to find and replace some string to point to the data folder. • MKPinAnnotationView - hard to drag

  I have a MKPinAnnotationView that the user can drag around the map. It is very difficult for a user to drag the pin. I've tried increasing the frame size and also using a giant custom image. But nothing seems to actually change the hit area for the drag to be larger than default. Consequently, I have to attempt to tap/drag about ten times before anything happens.   As in the example, I am trying to substring the Video_full column in a data.frame (video_data_2) I am working on. I want to keep all the characters after the period. The period is always present, there is only one period and it is in a different position in each value for the column. • Writing a script for reading many .csv files with similar filenames

  I have several .csv files with similar filenames except a numeric month (i.e. 03_data.csv, 04_data.csv, 05_data.csv, etc.) that I'd like to read into R. I have two questions: Is there a function in R similar to MATLAB's varname and assignin that will let me create/declare a variable name within a function or loop that will allow me to read the respective .csv file - i.e. 03_data.csv into 03_data data.frame, etc.? I want to write a quick loop to do this because the filenames are similar. As an alternative, is it better to create one dataframe with the first file and then append the rest using a for loop? How would I do that?

  Hi guys I need to be able to render a silverlight storyboard animation to video. The animated content itself could be simple UIElements, Images or even two or more videos playing at the same time. Several ideas came to mind like RenderTargetBitmap on a single frame basis, but: 1) I've never tested this against video embedded content 2) Don't know how to actually compose the video from the generated images. Expression Encoder was also on my mind, but I don't know if it's possible to integrate it in a Silverlight/XBAP app to fulfill what's expected from it. What's your opinion on this?

• Zoom controls not showing when using a MapView with fill_parent

  Hey everyone I am working on an applications and I am using the built in zoom controls. When using a specific size I can see the zoom controls. When using fill_parent the zoom controls are not visible. How it is setup is a mapview inside of a frame layout(also using fill parent for the height and width but with an offset down the screen. The only thing I can think of is the fill parent issue is with the framelayout and the zoom controls are off the screen. Sorry if this is confusing, I confused myself writing it. Thanks in advance

  I want to know if there is any benefiting caching a sprite sheet and accessing the sprite by frame without using the CCSpriteBatchNode? In some parts of my game the sprite batch node is useful because there is a lot on the screen, however on another part its not, because there are just a few things, and there are requirements for layers so CCSpriteBatchNode wouldn't be useful. However, for the sake of consistency I would like to use Sprite Sheets for all my sprites, and so was beginning to wonder if I would still receive any benefit from it? (Or worse that it could some how be slower...)

  I'm trying to resize a UIButton in my iPhone app. I have a UIButton synthesized and when I call the following code, it moves on the screen, but the width & height of the button never change. button.frame.size = CGRectMake(104, 68, 158, 70); For example, when I change the height (70) to 40, the height of the button does not change. If I change the x or y, however, it will move on the screen. Any ideas?

• Problems to make programming more interesting for school students [closed]

  I have to teach Java programming to school students and all are around the age of 15. None of them had any previous experience in programming. That is, I have to start from the very basics. I do like to make the sessions more interesting, and to make them love programming. I do need simple problems or puzzles -- not complex ones, simple ones -- that can increase their curiosity, and made them think and love programming. I do like to have problems for all of the concepts (like branching, looping, encapsulation, inheritance, composition, etc.,). Notes: I do have a time-frame of 1 hour for each session. Computers are not available. Maybe I can bring my laptop and show a demo to them. There are 7 students in the class.
