  • Fastest way to move records from an Oracle database into SQL Server

    - by user347748
Ok this is the scenario... I have a table in Oracle that acts like a queue... A VB.net program reads the queue and calls a stored proc in SQL Server that processes and then inserts the message into another SQL Server table and then deletes the record from the oracle table. We use a DataReader to read the records from Oracle and then call the stored proc for each of the records. The program seems to be a little slow. The stored procedure itself isn't slow. The SP by itself when called in a loop can process about 2000 records in 20 seconds. But when called from the .Net program, the execution time is about 5 records per second. I have seen that most of the time consumed is in calling the stored procedure and waiting for it to return. Is there a better way of doing this? Here is a snippet of the actual code Function StartDataXfer() As Boolean Dim status As Boolean = False Try SqlConn.Open() OraConn.Open() c.ErrorLog(Now.ToString & "--Going to Get the messages from oracle", 1) If GetMsgsFromOracle() Then c.ErrorLog(Now.ToString & "--Got messages from oracle", 1) If ProcessMessages() Then c.ErrorLog(Now.ToString & "--Finished Processing all messages in the queue", 0) status = True Else c.ErrorLog(Now.ToString & "--Failed to Process all messages in the queue", 0) status = False End If Else status = True End If StartDataXfer = status Catch ex As Exception • How to deny the web access to some files?

    - by Strae
I need to do an operation a bit strange. First, i run on Debian, apache2 (which 'runs' as user www-data) So, I have simple text file with .txt ot .ini, or whatever extension, doesnt matter. These files are located in subfolders with a structure like this: www.example.com/folder1/car/foobar.txt www.example.com/folder1/cycle/foobar.txt www.example.com/folder1/fish/foobar.txt www.example.com/folder1/fruit/foobar.txt therefore, the file name always the same, ditto for the 'hierarchy', just change the name of the folder: /folder-name-static/folder-name-dinamyc/file-name-static.txt What I should do is (I think) relatively simple: I must be able to read that file by programs on the server (python, php for example), but if I try to retrieve the file contents by broswer (digiting the url www.example.com/folder1/car/foobar.txt, or via cUrl, etc..) I must get a forbidden error, or whatever, but not access the file. It would also be nice that even accessing those files via FTP are 'hidden', or anyway couldnt be downloaded (at least that I use with the ftp root and user data) How can I do? I found this online, be put in the file .htaccess: <Files File.txt> Order allow, deny Deny from all </ Files> It seems to work, but only if the file is in the web root (www.example.com / myfile.txt), and not in subfolders. Moreover, the folders in the second level (www.example.com/folder1/fruit/foobar.txt) will be dinamycally created.. I would like to avoid having to change .htaccess file from time to time. It is possible to create a rule, something like that, that goes for all files with given name, which is on www.example.com/folder-name-static/folder-name-dinamyc/file-name-static.txt, where those parts are allways the same, just that one change ? EDIT: As Dave Drager said, i could semplify this keeping those file outside the web accessible directory. But those directory's will contain others files too, images, and stuff used by my users, so i'm simply try to not have a duplicate folders system, like: /var/www/vhosts/example.com/httpdocs/folder1/car/[other folders and files here] /var/www/vhosts/example.com/httpdocs/folder1/cycle/[other folders and files here] /var/www/vhosts/example.com/httpdocs/folder1/fish/[other folders and files here] //and, then for the 'secrets' files: /folder1/data/car/foobar.txt /folder1/data/cycle/foobar.txt /folder1/data/fish/foobar.txt

  • How to print all users from windows-group to a textfile?

    - by Tim
Hello, i'm trying to print all users of a group "Students" to a Textfile "Students.txt". I'm not in a domain, so this does not work: net group "Students" >> students.txt because i get following: This command can be used only on a Windows Domain Controller. Thank you in advance If anybody is interested in a VB.Net solution, i've programmed a Winform solution with a multiline Textbox to copy/paste the members (anyway, thanks for your help): Imports System.DirectoryServices 'first add a refernce to it from .Net Tab' .... Private Sub PrintGroupMember_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Dim students As List(Of DirectoryEntry) = MembersOfGroup("Students") For Each user As DirectoryEntry In students Me.TextBox1.Text &= user.Name & vbCrLf Next End Sub Public Function MembersOfGroup(ByVal GroupName As String) As List(Of DirectoryEntry) Dim members As New List(Of DirectoryEntry) Try Using search As New DirectoryEntry("WinNT://./" & GroupName & ",group") For Each member As Object In DirectCast(search.Invoke("Members"), IEnumerable) Dim memberEntry As New DirectoryEntry(member) members.Add(memberEntry) Next End Using Catch ex As Exception MessageBox.Show(ex.ToString) End Try Return members End Function

  • .htaccess redirect, from old dirty URL to a clean new URL with parameters

    - by JustAnil
I have the following 2 links, I'm not great with .htaccess rules yet. Old URL: http://www.mywebsite.org.uk/donate/donate.php?charity_id=885&project_id=18111 New URL: http://new.mywebsite.org.uk/donation/to/885/18111 I want all the traffic coming from the old URL to the new url (including the parameters charity_id & project_id). I'm trying to learn .htaccess rules, but finding the tutorials online to be kinda vague. I'd really like a simple explanation on the .htaccess rules. (Give a man a fish, feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime). The correct answer will be the answer with a simple and useful explanation (along with the rules if possible!).

  • jqGrid: sort by index

    - by David__
I am having trouble getting a column to sort by an index other than the 'name' value. In this case I am trying to sort the aggregation type column (values are days of the week) by the week order, rather than alphanumeric order. To do this I added an index column ('Aggregation type-index') that has the days of week an integers. However with this configuration, it fails to sort that column by index or name. Can someone point me the err in my ways? I posted all the js and css that is on the page, because I am also having two other issues, that if you notice the problem great, otherwise I'll keep hunting. I want to be able to enable the column reodering and be able to resize the grid (Both shown at http://trirand.com/blog/jqgrid/jqgrid.html under the new in 3.6 tab). Both options are not working either. <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/static/latest_ui/themes/base/jquery.ui.all.css"/> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="print" href="/static/css/print.css"/> <script src="/static/js/jquery-1.7.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="/static/latest_ui/ui/jquery.ui.core.js"></script> <script src="/static/latest_ui/ui/jquery.ui.widget.js"></script> <script src="/static/latest_ui/ui/jquery.ui.position.js"></script> <script src="/static/latest_ui/ui/jquery.ui.button.js"></script> <script src="/static/latest_ui/ui/jquery.ui.menu.js"></script> <script src="/static/latest_ui/ui/jquery.ui.menubar.js"></script> <script src="/static/latest_ui/ui/jquery.ui.tabs.js"></script> <script src="/static/latest_ui/ui/jquery.ui.datepicker.js"></script> <script src="/static/js/custom.js"></script> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="all" href="/static/css/custom_style.css" /> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="all" href="/static/css/custom_colors.css" /> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" href="/static/css/ui.jqgrid.css" /> <body> <table id="grid_reports"></table> <div id='pager'></div> </body> <script src="/static/latest_ui/ui/jquery.ui.resizable.js"></script> <script src="/static/latest_ui/ui/jquery.ui.sortable.js"></script> <script src="/static/js/grid.locale-en.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="/static/js/jquery.jqGrid.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="/static/js/jqGrid_src/grid.jqueryui.js"></script> <script> $(function() { jQuery("#grid_reports").jqGrid({ sortable: true, datatype: "local", height: 500, width: 300, colNames:['Series', 'Agg Type', 'Days'], colModel:[{'index': 'By series', 'align': 'left', 'sorttype': 'text', 'name': 'By series', 'width': 65}, {'index': 'Aggregation type-index', 'align': 'left', 'sorttype': 'int', 'name': 'Aggregation type', 'width': 75}, {'index': 'Days since event', 'align': 'center', 'sorttype': 'text', 'name': 'Days since event', 'width': 50}], rowNum:50, pager: '#pager', sortname: 'Aggregation type', sortorder: 'desc', altRows: true, rowList:[20,50,100,500,10000], viewrecords: true, gridview: true, caption: "Report for 6/19/12" }); jQuery("#grid_reports").navGrid("#pager",{edit:false,add:false,del:false}); jQuery("#grid_reports").jqGrid('gridResize',{minWidth:60,maxWidth:2500,minHeight:80, maxHeight:2500}); var mydata = [{'Days since event': 132, 'Aggregation type': 'Date=Fri', 'By series': 'mean', 'Aggregation type-index': 5}, {'DIM at event': 178, 'Aggregation type': 'Date=Thu', 'By series': 'mean', 'Aggregation type-index': 4}, {'DIM at event': 172, 'Aggregation type': 'Date=Wed', 'By series': 'mean', 'Aggregation type-index': 3}, {'DIM at event': 146, 'Aggregation type': 'Date=Tue', 'By series': 'mean', 'Aggregation type-index': 2}, {'DIM at event': 132, 'Aggregation type': 'Date=Sat', 'By series': 'mean', 'Aggregation type-index': 6}, {'DIM at event': 162, 'Aggregation type': 'Date=Mon', 'By series': 'mean', 'Aggregation type-index': 1}, {'DIM at event': 139, 'Aggregation type': 'Date=Sun', 'By series': 'mean', 'Aggregation type-index': 0}]; for(var i=0;i<=mydata.length;i++) jQuery("#grid_reports").jqGrid('addRowData',i+1,mydata[i]); }); </script>

  • DIV is picking max-width value as width value for DIV.

    - by Lokesh
I am facing a problem after applying max-width hack for IE7. In mozilla, width of the div is flexible and adjustable as per the image width in the div. • ADO program to list members of a large group.

    - by AlexGomez
Hi everyone, I'm attempting to list all the members in a Active Directory group using ADO. The problem I have is that many of these groups have over 1500 members and ADSI cannot handle more than 1500 items in a multi-valued attribute. Fortunately I came across Richard Muller's wonderful VBScript that handles more than 1500 members at http://www.rlmueller.net/DocumentLargeGroup.htm I modified his code as shown below so that I can list ALL the groups and its memberships in a certain OU. However, I'm keeping getting the exception shown below: "ADODB.Recordset: Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal." My program appears to get stuck at: strPath = adoRecordset.Fields("ADsPath").Value Set objGroup = GetObject(strPath) All I am doing above is issuing the query to get back a recordset consisting of the ADsPath for each group in the OU. It then walks through the recordset and grabs the ADsPath for the first group and store its in a variable named strPath; we then use the value of that variable to bind to the group account for that group. It really should work! Any idea why the code below doesn't work for me? Any pointers will be great appreciated. Thanks. Option Explicit Dim objRootDSE, strDNSDomain, adoCommand Dim adoConnection, strBase, strAttributes Dim strFilter, strQuery, adoRecordset Dim strDN, intCount, blnLast, intLowRange Dim intHighRange, intRangeStep, objField Dim objGroup, objMember, strName ' Determine DNS domain name. • Using a WPF ListView as a DataGrid

    - by psheriff
Many people like to view data in a grid format of rows and columns. WPF did not come with a data grid control that automatically creates rows and columns for you based on the object you pass it. However, the WPF Toolkit can be downloaded from CodePlex.com that does contain a DataGrid control. This DataGrid gives you the ability to pass it a DataTable or a Collection class and it will automatically figure out the columns or properties and create all the columns for you and display the data. The DataGrid control also supports editing and many other features that you might not always need. This means that the DataGrid does take a little more time to render the data. If you want to just display data (see Figure 1) in a grid format, then a ListView works quite well for this task. Of course, you will need to create the columns for the ListView, but with just a little generic code, you can create the columns on the fly just like the WPF Toolkit’s DataGrid. Figure 1: A List of Data using a ListView A Simple ListView ControlThe XAML below is what you would use to create the ListView shown in Figure 1. However, the problem with using XAML is you have to pre-define the columns. You cannot re-use this ListView except for “Product” data. <ListView x:Name="lstData"          ItemsSource="{Binding}">  <ListView.View>    <GridView>      <GridViewColumn Header="Product ID"                      Width="Auto"               DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Path=ProductId}" />      <GridViewColumn Header="Product Name"                      Width="Auto"               DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Path=ProductName}" />      <GridViewColumn Header="Price"                      Width="Auto"               DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Path=Price}" />    </GridView>  </ListView.View></ListView> So, instead of creating the GridViewColumn’s in XAML, let’s learn to create them in code to create any amount of columns in a ListView. Create GridViewColumn’s From Data TableTo display multiple columns in a ListView control you need to set its View property to a GridView collection object. You add GridViewColumn objects to the GridView collection and assign the GridView to the View property. Each GridViewColumn object needs to be bound to a column or property name of the object that the ListView will be bound to. An ADO.NET DataTable object contains a collection of columns, and these columns have a ColumnName property which you use to bind to the GridViewColumn objects. Listing 1 shows a sample of reading and XML file into a DataSet object. After reading the data a GridView object is created. You can then loop through the DataTable columns collection and create a GridViewColumn object for each column in the DataTable. Notice the DisplayMemberBinding property is set to a new Binding to the ColumnName in the DataTable. C#private void FirstSample(){  // Read the data  DataSet ds = new DataSet();  ds.ReadXml(GetCurrentDirectory() + @"\Xml\Product.xml");    // Create the GridView  GridView gv = new GridView();   // Create the GridView Columns  foreach (DataColumn item in ds.Tables[0].Columns)  {    GridViewColumn gvc = new GridViewColumn();    gvc.DisplayMemberBinding = new Binding(item.ColumnName);    gvc.Header = item.ColumnName;    gvc.Width = Double.NaN;    gv.Columns.Add(gvc);  }   // Setup the GridView Columns  lstData.View = gv;  // Display the Data  lstData.DataContext = ds.Tables[0];} VB.NETPrivate Sub FirstSample()  ' Read the data  Dim ds As New DataSet()  ds.ReadXml(GetCurrentDirectory() & "\Xml\Product.xml")   ' Create the GridView  Dim gv As New GridView()   ' Create the GridView Columns  For Each item As DataColumn In ds.Tables(0).Columns    Dim gvc As New GridViewColumn()    gvc.DisplayMemberBinding = New Binding(item.ColumnName)    gvc.Header = item.ColumnName    gvc.Width = [Double].NaN    gv.Columns.Add(gvc)  Next   ' Setup the GridView Columns  lstData.View = gv  ' Display the Data  lstData.DataContext = ds.Tables(0)End SubListing 1: Loop through the DataTable columns collection to create GridViewColumn objects A Generic Method for Creating a GridViewInstead of having to write the code shown in Listing 1 for each ListView you wish to create, you can create a generic method that given any DataTable will return a GridView column collection. Listing 2 shows how you can simplify the code in Listing 1 by setting up a class called WPFListViewCommon and create a method called CreateGridViewColumns that returns your GridView. C#private void DataTableSample(){  // Read the data  DataSet ds = new DataSet();  ds.ReadXml(GetCurrentDirectory() + @"\Xml\Product.xml");   // Setup the GridView Columns  lstData.View =      WPFListViewCommon.CreateGridViewColumns(ds.Tables[0]);  lstData.DataContext = ds.Tables[0];} VB.NETPrivate Sub DataTableSample()  ' Read the data  Dim ds As New DataSet()  ds.ReadXml(GetCurrentDirectory() & "\Xml\Product.xml")   ' Setup the GridView Columns  lstData.View = _      WPFListViewCommon.CreateGridViewColumns(ds.Tables(0))  lstData.DataContext = ds.Tables(0)End SubListing 2: Call a generic method to create GridViewColumns. The CreateGridViewColumns MethodThe CreateGridViewColumns method will take a DataTable as a parameter and create a GridView object with a GridViewColumn object in its collection for each column in your DataTable. C#public static GridView CreateGridViewColumns(DataTable dt){  // Create the GridView  GridView gv = new GridView();  gv.AllowsColumnReorder = true;   // Create the GridView Columns  foreach (DataColumn item in dt.Columns)  {    GridViewColumn gvc = new GridViewColumn();    gvc.DisplayMemberBinding = new Binding(item.ColumnName);    gvc.Header = item.ColumnName;    gvc.Width = Double.NaN;    gv.Columns.Add(gvc);  }   return gv;} VB.NETPublic Shared Function CreateGridViewColumns _  (ByVal dt As DataTable) As GridView  ' Create the GridView  Dim gv As New GridView()  gv.AllowsColumnReorder = True   ' Create the GridView Columns  For Each item As DataColumn In dt.Columns    Dim gvc As New GridViewColumn()    gvc.DisplayMemberBinding = New Binding(item.ColumnName)    gvc.Header = item.ColumnName    gvc.Width = [Double].NaN    gv.Columns.Add(gvc)  Next   Return gvEnd FunctionListing 3: The CreateGridViewColumns method takes a DataTable and creates GridViewColumn objects in a GridView. By separating this method out into a class you can call this method anytime you want to create a ListView with a collection of columns from a DataTable. SummaryIn this blog you learned how to create a ListView that acts like a DataGrid. You are able to use a DataTable as both the source of the data, and for creating the columns for the ListView. In the next blog entry you will learn how to use the same technique, but for Collection classes. • WPF Login Verification Using Active Directory

    - by psheriff
Back in October of 2009 I created a WPF login screen (Figure 1) that just showed how to create the layout for a login screen. That one sample is probably the most downloaded sample we have. So in this blog post, I thought I would update that screen and also hook it up to show how to authenticate your user against Active Directory. Figure 1: Original WPF Login Screen I have updated not only the code behind for this login screen, but also the look and feel as shown in Figure 2. Figure 2: An Updated WPF Login Screen The UI To create the UI for this login screen you can refer to my October of 2009 blog post to see how to create the borderless window. You can then look at the sample code to see how I created the linear gradient brush for the background. There are just a few differences in this screen compared to the old version. First, I changed the key image and instead of using words for the Cancel and Login buttons, I used some icons. Secondly I added a text box to hold the Domain name that you wish to authenticate against. This text box is automatically filled in if you are connected to a network. In the Window_Loaded event procedure of the winLogin window you can retrieve the user’s domain name from the Environment.UserDomainName property. For example: txtDomain.Text = Environment.UserDomainName The ADHelper Class Instead of coding the call to authenticate the user directly in the login screen I created an ADHelper class. This will make it easier if you want to add additional AD calls in the future. The ADHelper class contains just one method at this time called AuthenticateUser. This method authenticates a user name and password against the specified domain. The login screen will gather the credentials from the user such as their user name and password, and also the domain name to authenticate against. To use this ADHelper class you will need to add a reference to the System.DirectoryServices.dll in .NET. The AuthenticateUser Method In order to authenticate a user against your Active Directory you will need to supply a valid LDAP path string to the constructor of the DirectoryEntry class. The LDAP path string will be in the format LDAP://DomainName. You will also pass in the user name and password to the constructor of the DirectoryEntry class as well. With a DirectoryEntry object populated with this LDAP path string, the user name and password you will now pass this object to the constructor of a DirectorySearcher object. You then perform the FindOne method on the DirectorySearcher object. If the DirectorySearcher object returns a SearchResult then the credentials supplied are valid. If the credentials are not valid on the Active Directory then an exception is thrown. C#public bool AuthenticateUser(string domainName, string userName,  string password){  bool ret = false;   try  {    DirectoryEntry de = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://" + domainName,                                           userName, password);    DirectorySearcher dsearch = new DirectorySearcher(de);    SearchResult results = null;     results = dsearch.FindOne();     ret = true;  }  catch  {    ret = false;  }   return ret;} Visual Basic Public Function AuthenticateUser(ByVal domainName As String, _ ByVal userName As String, ByVal password As String) As Boolean  Dim ret As Boolean = False   Try    Dim de As New DirectoryEntry("LDAP://" & domainName, _                                 userName, password)    Dim dsearch As New DirectorySearcher(de)    Dim results As SearchResult = Nothing     results = dsearch.FindOne()     ret = True  Catch    ret = False  End Try   Return retEnd Function In the Click event procedure under the Login button you will find the following code that will validate the credentials that the user types into the login window. C#private void btnLogin_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e){  ADHelper ad = new ADHelper();   if(ad.AuthenticateUser(txtDomain.Text,         txtUserName.Text, txtPassword.Password))    DialogResult = true;  else    MessageBox.Show("Unable to Authenticate Using the                      Supplied Credentials");} Visual BasicPrivate Sub btnLogin_Click(ByVal sender As Object, _ ByVal e As RoutedEventArgs)  Dim ad As New ADHelper()   If ad.AuthenticateUser(txtDomain.Text, txtUserName.Text, _                         txtPassword.Password) Then    DialogResult = True  Else    MessageBox.Show("Unable to Authenticate Using the                      Supplied Credentials")  End IfEnd Sub Displaying the Login Screen At some point when your application launches, you will need to display your login screen modally. Below is the code that you would call to display the login form (named winLogin in my sample application). This code is called from the main application form, and thus the owner of the login screen is set to “this”. You then call the ShowDialog method on the login screen to have this form displayed modally. After the user clicks on one of the two buttons you need to check to see what the DialogResult property was set to. The DialogResult property is a nullable type and thus you first need to check to see if the value has been set. C# private void DisplayLoginScreen(){  winLogin win = new winLogin();   win.Owner = this;  win.ShowDialog();  if (win.DialogResult.HasValue && win.DialogResult.Value)    MessageBox.Show("User Logged In");  else    this.Close();} Visual Basic Private Sub DisplayLoginScreen()  Dim win As New winLogin()   win.Owner = Me  win.ShowDialog()  If win.DialogResult.HasValue And win.DialogResult.Value Then    MessageBox.Show("User Logged In")  Else    Me.Close()  End IfEnd Sub Summary Creating a nice looking login screen is fairly simple to do in WPF. Using the Active Directory services from a WPF application should make your desktop programming task easier as you do not need to create your own user authentication system. I hope this article gave you some ideas on how to create a login screen in WPF. NOTE: You can download the complete sample code for this blog entry at my website: http://www.pdsa.com/downloads. • Program error trying to generate Outlook 2013 email from Visual Basic 2010 [on hold]

    - by Dewayne Pinion
I am using vb to send emails through outlook. Currently we have a mix of outlook versions at our office: 2010 and 2013 with a mix of 32 bit and 64 bit (a mess, I know). The code I have works well for Outlook 2010: Private Sub btnEmail_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnEmail.Click CreateMailItem() End Sub Private Sub CreateMailItem() Dim application As New Application Dim mailItem As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.MailItem = CType(application.CreateItem( _ Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.OlItemType.olMailItem), Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.MailItem) 'Me.a(Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.OlItemType.olMailItem) mailItem.Subject = "This is the subject" mailItem. To = "[email protected]" mailItem.Body = "This is the message." mailItem.Importance = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.OlImportance.olImportanceLow mailItem.Display(True) End Sub However, I cannot get this to work for 2013. I have referenced the version 15 dll for 2013 and it seems to be backward compatible, but when I try to use the above code for 2013 (it is 64 bit) it says it cannot start Microsoft Outlook. A program error has occured. This is happening on the application Dim statement line. I have tried googling around but there doesn't seem to be much out there referencing 2013 but I feel that the problem here probably has more to do with 64 bit than the software version. Thank you for any suggestions!

  • Entry level engineer question regarding memory mangement

    - by Ealianis
It has been a few months since I started my position as an entry level software developer. Now that I am past some learning curves (e.g. the language, jargon, syntax of VB and C#) I'm starting to focus on more esoteric topics, as to write better software. A simple question I presented to a fellow coworker was responded with "I'm focusing on the wrong things." While I respect this coworker I do disagree that this is a "wrong thing" to focus upon. Here was the code (in VB) and followed by the question. Note: The Function GenerateAlert() returns an integer. Dim alertID as Integer = GenerateAlert() _errorDictionary.Add(argErrorID, NewErrorInfo(Now(), alertID)) vs... _errorDictionary.Add(argErrorID, New ErrorInfo(Now(), GenerateAlert())) I originally wrote the ladder and rewrote it with the "Dim alertID" so that someone else might find it easier to read. But here was my concern and question. "Should one write this with the Dim AlertID, it would in fact take up more memory; finite but more, and should this method be called many times could it lead to an issue? How will .NET handle this object AlertID. Outside of .NET should one manually dispose of the object after use (near the end of the sub)." I want to ensure I become a knowledgeable programmer that does not just rely upon garbage collection. Am I over thinking this? Am I focusing on the wrong things?

  • How should VertexBuffers be used with Multiple Monitors in DirectX 9

    - by Joshua C
I am currently using DirectX 9 on a machine with two GPUs and three monitors. I am currently trying to draw a triangle on each monitor using vertexbuffers; A directx helloworld with multiple monitors if you will. I am familiar with some DirectX coding, but new to multiple monitor DirectX coding. I may be going about this the wrong way, so please do correct me if I'm doing something wrong. I have created a Direct3D Device for each enumerated adapter sharing the same Form handle. This allows me to successfully use all three monitors in full-screen mode. For Each Adapter In Direct3D.Adapters Dim PresentParameters As New PresentParameters 'Setup PresentParameters PresentParameters.Windowed = False PresentParameters.DeviceWindowHandle = MainForm.Handle Dim Device as New Device(Direct3D, Adapter.Adapter, DeviceType.Hardware, PresentParameters.DeviceWindowHandle, CreateFlags.HardwareVertexProcessing, PresentParameters) Device.SetRenderState(RenderState.Lighting, False) Devices.Add(Device) Next I can also draw text to each device successfully using a different Font for each Device. When I render a triangle using a different VertexBuffer for each Device, only two monitors display the triangle. One of the two monitors on the same GPU, and the monitor on it's own GPU display properly. VertexBuffer = New VertexBuffer(Device, 4 * Marshal.SizeOf(GetType(ColoredVertex)), Usage.WriteOnly, VertexFormat.None, Pool.Managed) Dim Verts = VertexBuffer.Lock(0, 0, LockFlags.None) Verts.WriteRange({ New ColoredVertex(-.5, -.5, 1, ForeColor), New ColoredVertex(0, .5, 1, ForeColor), New ColoredVertex(.5, -.5, 1, ForeColor) }) VertexBuffer.Unlock() VertexDeclaration = New VertexDeclaration(Device, { New VertexElement(0, 0, DeclarationType.Float3, DeclarationMethod.Default, DeclarationUsage.Position, 0), New VertexElement(0, 12, DeclarationType.Color, DeclarationMethod.Default, DeclarationUsage.Color, 0), VertexElement.VertexDeclarationEnd }) Render Code: Device.SetStreamSource(0, VertexBuffer, 0, Marshal.SizeOf(GetType(ColoredVertex))) Device.VertexDeclaration = VertexDeclaration Device.DrawPrimitives(PrimitiveType.TriangleList, 0, 1) I have to assume the fact that they share the same physical card comes into play. Should I use multiple buffers on the same card, and if so, how? Or what is the way I should access the VertexBuffer across Devices? Another thought I had was the non working monitor acts like there are no lights. Is turning off lighting on each device on the same card causing issues somehow?

  • Microsoft ODBC driver for Oracle Syntax error or access violation (-2147217900)

    - by Jan
I have a large VB program that connects to Oracle database. strCn = "Driver={Microsoft ODBC for Oracle};" & _ "SERVER=PSPROD;" Set Cn = New ADODB.Connection Cn.ConnectionString = strCn Cn.CursorLocation = adUseNone Cn.Open There are many users of my program so I have a table that contains each user's login name and their access rights to the various tables. I create a recordset of all users when the program is started and then select USERNAME and GRANTED_ROLE from the record set where USERNAME and PASSWORD are found. I use a "Set role 'GRANTED_ROLE' identified by 'password'" statment and Cn.Execute statement to set up the user's access rights. This is all done in a Module. On a form, I want to call a Stored Procedure that will SELECT, INSERT and UPDATE information into another schema's tables. I am able to call and run the stored procedure when I create a new connection to the database with this code: Dim cmd5040 As ADODB.Command Dim conn5040 As ADODB.Connection Dim param5040 As ADODB.Parameter Set conn5040 = New ADODB.Connection conn5040 = "Driver={Microsoft ODBC for Oracle};" & _ "SERVER=PSPROD; UID=XXXXXXX; PWD=XXXXXXXX" conn5040.Open Set cmd5040 = New ADODB.Command With cmd5040 .ActiveConnection = conn5040 .CommandType = adCmdStoredProc .CommandText = "S4115040_IMPORT_NEWBIDITEMSPES.S4115040_CheckTime" .Parameters.Append .CreateParameter(, adInteger, adParamInputOutput, 5) .Parameters.Append .CreateParameter(, adVarChar, adParamInputOutput, 400) End With cmd5040(0) = 0 cmd5040(1) = "" cmd5040.CommandTimeout = 300 cmd5040.Execute conn5040.Close However, I get the error message "-2147217900 [Microsoft][ODCB driver for Oracle]Syntax error or access violation" when I attempt to use the same connection ('Cn') when the program first started. My code is: Dim cmd5040 As ADODB.Command Dim param5040 As ADODB.Parameter Set cmd5040 = New ADODB.Command With cmd5040 .ActiveConnection = Cn .CommandType = adCmdStoredProc .CommandText = "S4115040_IMPORT_NEWBIDITEMSPES.S4115040_CheckTime" .Parameters.Append .CreateParameter(, adInteger, adParamInputOutput, 5) .Parameters.Append .CreateParameter(, adVarChar, adParamInputOutput, 400) End With cmd5040(0) = 0 cmd5040(1) = "" cmd5040.Execute I have worked with my DBA. She has given me direct grants and direct execute privliges and I am still get the error message. What am I doing wrong? Should I be able to use the original connection to run a stored procedure? Or must I create a second connection?

So if one then of course it goes to case 1. If there are 2 opened then it moves the oldest down and puts the newest on top. etc etc. I have set it so that a max of 6 boxes can only be opened at one time. If anyone knows how i could also "slide" them down (kinda like an effect of jQuery) then that would also be, well awesome to know! :o) Any help/suggestions would be great! :o) David

  • passing multiple vectors to function by reference (using structure)

    - by madman
Hi StackOverflow, Can someone tell me the correct way of passing multiple vectors to a function that can take only a single argument? (specifically for pthread_create (..) function) I tried the following but it does not seem to work :-( First, I created the following structure struct ip2 { void* obj; int dim; int n_s; vector<vector<vector<double> > > *wlist; vector<int> *nrsv; struct model *pModel; }; The threads that I have created actually needs all these parameters. Since im using pthreads_create I put all this in a structure and then passed the pointer to the structure as an argument to pthread_create (as shown). some_fxn() { //some code struct ip2 ip; ip.obj=(void*) this; ip.n_s=n_s; ip.wlist=&wlist; ip.nrsv=&nrsv; ip.pModel=pModel; ip.dim=dim; pthread_create(&callThd1[lcntr], &attr1, &Cls::Entry, (void*) &ip); } The Entry method looks something like this. void* Cls::Entry(void *ip) { struct ip2 *x; x = (struct ip2 *)ip; (reinterpret_cast<Cls1 *>(x->obj))->Run(x->dim,x->n_s, x->wlist, x->nrsv, x->pModel); } The Run method looks something like this. void Run(int dim, int n_c, vector<vector<vector<double> > > *wlist, vector<int> *nrsv, struct model* pModel ) { //some code for(int k = 0; k < n_c; ++k) { //some code end = index + nrsv[k]; //some code } I get the following error when I try to compile the program. error: no match for ‘operator+’ in ‘index + *(((std::vector<int, std::allocator<int> >*)(((unsigned int)k) * 12u)) + nrsv)’ Can someone tell me how to do it the right way. • Entity Framework looking for wrong column

    - by m.edmondson
I'm brand new to the Entity Framework and trying to learn all it can offer. I'm currently working my way through the MVC Music Store tutorial which includes the following code: public ActionResult Browse(string genre) { // Retrieve Genre and its Associated Albums from database var genreModel = storeDB.Genres.Include("Albums") .Single(g => g.Name == genre); return View(genreModel); } as I'm working in VB I converted it like so: Function Browse(ByVal genre As String) As ActionResult 'Retrieve Genre and its Associated Albums from database Dim genreModel = storeDB.Genres.Include("Albums"). _ Single(Function(g) g.Name = genre) Return(View(genreModel)) End Function The problem is I'm getting the following exception: Invalid column name 'GenreGenreId'. Which I know is true, but I can't for the life of my work out where it's getting 'GenreGenreId' from. Probably a basic question but I'll appreciate any help in the right direction. As per requested here is the source for my classes: Album.vb Public Class Album Private _title As String Private _genre As Genre Private _AlbumId As Int32 Private _GenreId As Int32 Private _ArtistId As Int32 Private _Price As Decimal Private _AlbumArtUrl As String Public Property Title As String Get Return _title End Get Set(ByVal value As String) _title = value End Set End Property Public Property AlbumId As Int16 Get Return _AlbumId End Get Set(ByVal value As Int16) _AlbumId = value End Set End Property Public Property GenreId As Int16 Get Return _GenreId End Get Set(ByVal value As Int16) _GenreId = value End Set End Property Public Property ArtistId As Int16 Get Return _ArtistId End Get Set(ByVal value As Int16) _ArtistId = value End Set End Property Public Property AlbumArtUrl As String Get Return _AlbumArtUrl End Get Set(ByVal value As String) _AlbumArtUrl = value End Set End Property Public Property Price As Decimal Get Return _Price End Get Set(ByVal value As Decimal) _Price = value End Set End Property Public Property Genre As Genre Get Return _genre End Get Set(ByVal value As Genre) _genre = value End Set End Property End Class Genre.vb Public Class Genre Dim _genreId As Int32 Dim _Name As String Dim _Description As String Dim _Albums As List(Of Album) Public Property GenreId As Int32 Get Return _genreId End Get Set(ByVal value As Int32) _genreId = value End Set End Property Public Property Name As String Get Return _Name End Get Set(ByVal value As String) _Name = value End Set End Property Public Property Description As String Get Return _Description End Get Set(ByVal value As String) _Description = value End Set End Property Public Property Albums As List(Of Album) Get Return _Albums End Get Set(ByVal value As List(Of Album)) _Albums = value End Set End Property End Class MusicStoreEntities.vb Imports System.Data.Entity Namespace MvcApplication1 Public Class MusicStoreEntities Inherits DbContext Public Property Albums As DbSet(Of Album) Public Property Genres As DbSet(Of Genre) End Class End Namespace

  • button of MDImenu can't disenable in VS2008

    - by colorlee
Hi everyone. i had just started to learn VB and VS2008 and im doing some system due to my homework. i made a WELCOME form with a timer, 5s to pass to the next form which called Select. After passed to next form, itll me.visible = false. Theres 3 buttons on the Select form which call Customer, Staff and Exit. As i had just start, the button Customer will pass to a MDI menu call Customer Menu with a menu strip button called Quotation. Same, Select will me.visible = false when done. Then a problem occured, i made a Quotation inside the Customer Menu, such as the mdiparent of Quotation is Customer. I expected that the Quotation button will disenable to press after i pressed that button. But i fail to do that. And the code below: This is the code of MDI menu Customer Menu: Public Class frmCustomer Private Sub ExitToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ExitToolStripMenuItem.Click End End Sub Private Sub AboutUsToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles AboutUsToolStripMenuItem.Click Dim frm As New AboutMamatai AboutMamatai.ShowDialog() End Sub Private Sub frmCustomer_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load frmQuotation.MdiParent = Me frmQuotation.Show() frmQuotation.Dock = DockStyle.Fill Me.Location = New Point(220, 180) End Sub Private Sub QuotationToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles QuotationToolStripMenuItem.Click frmQuotation.MdiParent = Me frmQuotation.Show() frmQuotation.Dock = DockStyle.Fill End Sub End Class This is the code of the form inside the Customer menu: Public Class frmQuotation Private Sub btnExit_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnExit.Click frmCustomer.QuotationToolStripMenuItem.Enabled = True Me.Close() End Sub Private Sub frmQuotation_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load frmCustomer.QuotationToolStripMenuItem.Enabled = False End Sub End Class When im tryin to solve this problem, i found that the problem may cause of the me.visible = false of the Select form and Welcome form. Becoz when i set the Customer Menu be the first form to run. The problem is not exist. Is there anyone can help me ? P.S. I guess if the other two forms code is needed so i post them also This is the code of WELCOME form : Public Class frmWELCOME Private Sub frmWELCOME_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Me.Location = New Point(270, 210) Timer1.Enabled = True End Sub Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick Timer1.Enabled = False Dim frm As New frmSelect frm.Show() Me.Visible = False End Sub Private Sub btnSkip_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSkip.Click Timer1.Enabled = False Dim frm As New frmSelect frm.Show() Me.Visible = False End Sub End Class This is the code of Select Form: Public Class frmSelect Private Sub btnCustomer_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCustomer.Click Dim frm As New frmCustomer frm.Show() Me.Visible = False End Sub Private Sub btnStaff_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnStaff.Click Dim frm As New frmStaff frm.Show() Me.Visible = False End Sub Private Sub btnExit_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnExit.Click End End Sub Private Sub frmSelect_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Me.Location = New Point(390, 250) End Sub End Class

  • VB6 ADO Command to SQL Server

    - by Emtucifor
I'm getting an inexplicable error with an ADO command in VB6 run against a SQL Server 2005 database. Here's some code to demonstrate the problem: Sub ADOCommand() Dim Conn As ADODB.Connection Dim Rs As ADODB.Recordset Dim Cmd As ADODB.Command Dim ErrorAlertID As Long Dim ErrorTime As Date Set Conn = New ADODB.Connection Conn.ConnectionString = "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Initial Catalog=database;Data Source=server" Conn.CursorLocation = adUseClient Conn.Open Set Rs = New ADODB.Recordset Rs.CursorType = adOpenStatic Rs.LockType = adLockReadOnly Set Cmd = New ADODB.Command With Cmd .Prepared = False .CommandText = "ErrorAlertCollect" .CommandType = adCmdStoredProc .NamedParameters = True .Parameters.Append .CreateParameter("@ErrorAlertID", adInteger, adParamOutput) .Parameters.Append .CreateParameter("@CreateTime", adDate, adParamOutput) Set .ActiveConnection = Conn Rs.Open Cmd ErrorAlertID = .Parameters("@ErrorAlertID").Value ErrorTime = .Parameters("@CreateTime").Value End With Debug.Print Rs.State ' Shows 0 - Closed Debug.Print Rs.RecordCount ' Of course this fails since the recordset is closed End Sub So this code was working not too long ago but now it's failing on the last line with the error: Run-time error '3704': Operation is not allowed when the object is closed Why is it closed? I just opened it and the SP returns rows. I ran a trace and this is what the ADO library is actually submitting to the server: declare @p1 int set @p1=1 declare @p2 datetime set @p2=''2010-04-22 15:31:07:770'' exec ErrorAlertCollect @ErrorAlertID=@p1 output,@CreateTime=@p2 output select @p1, @p2 Running this as a separate batch from my query editor yields: Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 4 Incorrect syntax near '2010'. Of course there's an error. Look at the double single quotes in there. What the heck could be causing that? I tried using adDBDate and adDBTime as data types for the date parameter, and they give the same results. When I make the parameters adParamInputOutput, then I get this: declare @p1 int set @p1=default declare @p2 datetime set @p2=default exec ErrorAlertCollect @ErrorAlertID=@p1 output,@CreateTime=@p2 output select @p1, @p2 Running that as a separate batch yields: Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 2 Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'default'. Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 4 Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'default'. What the heck? SQL Server doesn't support this kind of syntax. You can only use the DEFAULT keyword in the actual SP execution statement. I should note that removing the extra single quotes from the above statement makes the SP run fine. ... Oh my. I just figured it out. I guess it's worth posting anyway.

  • VBA Excel - Workbook_SheetChange

    - by user2947014
Hopefully this question hasn't already been asked, I tried searching for an answer and couldn't find anything. This is probably a simple question, but I am writing my first macro in excel and am having a problem that I can't find out a solution to. I wrote a couple of macros that basically sum up columns dynamically (so that the number of rows can change and the formula moves down automatically) based on a value in another column of the same row, and I call those macros from the event Workbook_SheetChange. The problem I'm having is, I change a cell's value from my macro to display the result of the sum, and this then calls Workbook_SheetChange again, which I do not want. Right now it works, but I can trace it and see that Workbook_SheetChange is being called multiple times. This is preventing me from adding other cell changes to the macros, because then it results in an infinite loop. I want the macros to run every time a change is made to the sheet, but I don't see any way around allowing the macros to change a cell's value, so I don't know what to do. I will paste my code below, in case it is helpful. Private Sub Workbook_SheetChange(ByVal Sh As Object, ByVal Target As Range) Dim Row As Long Dim Col As Long Row = Target.Row Col = Target.Column If Col <> 7 Then Range("G" & Row).Select Selection.Formula = "=IF(F" & Row & "=""Win"",E" & Row & ",IF(F" & Row & "=""Loss"",-D" & Row & ",0))" Target.Select End If Call SumRiskColumn End Sub Private Sub Workbook_SheetCalculate(ByVal Sh As Object) Call SumOutcomeColumn End Sub Sub SumOutcomeColumn() Dim N As Long N = Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row Cells(N + 1, "G").Formula = "=SUM(G2:G" & N & ")" End Sub Sub SumRiskColumn() Dim N As Long N = Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row Dim CurrTotalRisk As Long CurrTotalRisk = 0 For i = 2 To N If IsEmpty(ActiveSheet.Cells(i, 6)) And Not IsEmpty(ActiveSheet.Cells(i, 1)) And Not IsEmpty(ActiveSheet.Cells(i, 2)) And Not IsEmpty(ActiveSheet.Cells(i, 3)) Then CurrTotalRisk = CurrTotalRisk + ActiveSheet.Cells(i, 4).Value End If Next i Cells(N + 1, "D").Value = CurrTotalRisk End Sub Thank you for any help you can give me! I really appreciate it.
