  • .NET and Closing SQL Server connections

    - by user307076
I am having a hard time figuring out why the following constructor will not close connnections. When I view the active connections. Here is the code that I have. Public Sub New(ByVal UserID As Integer) Dim oConn As New SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("connStr").ToString()) Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("stored proc", oConn) Dim sdr As SqlDataReader cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@userID", UserID) oConn.Open() sdr = cmd.ExecuteReader() Try If Not sdr.HasRows Then sdr.Close() If Not oConn Is Nothing Then If oConn.State <> ConnectionState.Closed Then oConn.Close() End If End If cmd.Dispose() Exit Sub End If 'User has account in WATS, proceed to load account information While sdr.Read _firstname = Convert.ToString(sdr("First Name")) _lastname = Convert.ToString(sdr("Last Name")) End While Catch ex As Exception 'Throw New Exception("User Error: " + ex.Message) Finally sdr.Close() If Not oConn Is Nothing Then If oConn.State <> ConnectionState.Closed Then oConn.Close() End If End If cmd.Dispose() End Try End Sub

  • LINQ to Objects .Distinct() not pulling distinct objects

    - by Anthony Potts
I have two ways that I am doing a fuzzy search for a customer. One is by an abbreviated name and the other is by the customers full name. When I take these two and then union them together (which I have read several places should remove distinct values) I get duplicates. Thinking that all I need to do is then call the .Distinct() method on this I also still get Duplicates. Do I need to implement some compare functionality in my customer object? My code: Dim shortNameMatch As List(Of ICustomer) = CustomerLibrary.GetCustomersByShortName(term) Dim custNameMatch As List(Of ICustomer) = CustomerLibrary.GetCustomersByCustName(term) Dim allMatch = (From a In (From s In shortNameMatch Select s).Union(From c In custNameMatch Select c) Select a).Distinct()

  • .NET remoting manual configuration

    - by Quandary
Question: In .NET remoting, I configure the client like this from a config file RemotingConfiguration.Configure("AsyncRemoteAPIclient.exe.config", False) Dim obj As New RemoteAPI.ServiceClass() (with this AsyncRemoteAPIclient.exe.config) <system.runtime.remoting> <application> <client> <wellknown type="RemoteAPI.ServiceClass, ServiceClass" url="http://localhost:8080/ServiceClass.rem" /> </client> <channels> <channel ref="http" port="0" /> </channels> </application> But when I replace the config file with manual configuration with the below code, it stops working, and starts complaining "ServiceClass or dependency not found". Dim chan As New System.Runtime.Remoting.Channels.Http.HttpChannel(0) System.Runtime.Remoting.Channels.ChannelServices.RegisterChannel(chan, False) ' Create an instance of the remote object Dim obj As RemoteAPI.ServiceClass obj = CType(Activator.GetObject(GetType(RemoteAPI.ServiceClass), "http://localhost:8080/ServiceClass.rem"), RemoteAPI.ServiceClass) What's wrong ?

  • HttpContext.Current.Request.UserHostName is empty when called from a class

    - by John Galt
I have various web pages that need to build up a URL to display or place it in an emitted email message. The code I inherited had this value for the name of the webserver in a Public Const in a Public Class called FixedConstants. For example: Public Const cdServerName As String = "WEBSERVERNAME" Trying to improve on this, I wrote this: Public Class UIFunction Public Shared myhttpcontext As HttpContext Public Shared Function cdWebServer() As String Dim s As New StringBuilder("http://") Dim h As String h = String.Empty Try h = Current.Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_HOST").ToString() Catch ex As Exception Dim m As String m = ex.Message.ToString() 'Ignore this should-not-occur thingy End Try If h = String.Empty Then h = "SomeWebServer" End If s.Append(h) s.Append("/") Return s.ToString() End Function I've tried different things while debugging such as HttpContext.Current.Request.UserHostName and I always get an empty string which pumps out my default string "SomeWebServer". I know Request.UserHostName or Request.ServerVariables("REMOTE_HOST") works when invoked from a page but why does this return empty when invoked from a called method of a class file (i.e. UIFunction.vb)?

  • md5 hash for file without File Attributes

    - by Glennular
Using the following code to compute MD5 hashs of files: Private _MD5Hash As String Dim md5 As New System.Security.Cryptography.MD5CryptoServiceProvider Dim md5hash() As Byte md5hash = md5.ComputeHash(Me._BinaryData) Me._MD5Hash = ByteArrayToString(md5hash) Private Function ByteArrayToString(ByVal arrInput() As Byte) As String Dim sb As New System.Text.StringBuilder(arrInput.Length * 2) For i As Integer = 0 To arrInput.Length - 1 sb.Append(arrInput(i).ToString("X2")) Next Return sb.ToString().ToLower End Function We are getting different hashes depending on the create-date and modify-date of the file. We are storing the hash and the binary file in a SQL DB. This works fine when we upload the same instance of a file. But when we save a new instance of the file from the DB (with today's date as the create/modify) on the file-system and then check the new hash versus the MD5 stored in the DB they do not match, and therefor fail a duplicate check. How can we check for a file hash excluding the file attributes? or is there a different issue here?

  • ACCESS VBA - DAO in VB - problem with creating relations

    - by Justin
So take the following example: Sub CreateRelation() Dim db As Database Dim rel As Relation Dim fld As Field Set db = CurrentDb Set rel = db.CreateRelation("OrderID", "Orders", "Products") 'refrential integrity rel.Attributes = dbRelationUpdateCascade 'specify the key in the referenced table Set fld = rel.CreateField("OrderID") fld.ForeignName = "OrderID" rel.Fields.Append fld db.Relations.Append rel End Sub I keep getting the error, No unique index found for the referenced field of the primary table. if i include the vb before this sub to create in index on the field, it gives me the error: Index already exists. so i am trying to figure this out. if there are not any primary keys set, will that cause this not to work? i am confused by this, but i really really want to figure this out. So orderID is a FOREIGN KEY in the Products Table please help thanks justin

  • Print ms access data in vb.net

    - by user225269
How do I print the ms access data(.mdb) in vb.net? Here is the code that I'm using to view the data in the form. What I want to do is to be able to print what is currently being viewed. Perhaps automatically save the .pdf file and the pdf viewer installed on the system will open that newly generated pdf file Dim cn As New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:\search.mdb") Dim cmd As OleDbCommand = New OleDbCommand("Select * from GH where NAME= '" & TextBox6.Text & "' ", cn) cn.Open() Dim rdr As OleDbDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader If rdr.HasRows Then rdr.Read() NoAcc = rdr("NAME") If (TextBox6.Text = NoAcc) Then TextBox1.Text = rdr("IDNUMBER") If (TextBox6.Text = NoAcc) Then TextBox7.Text = rdr("DEPARTMENT") If (TextBox6.Text = NoAcc) Then TextBox8.Text = rdr("COURSE") End If -some sites for beginners regarding this topic would help a lot:)

  • Regex for extracting second level domain from FQDN?

    - by Bob
I can't figure this out. I need to extract the second level domain from a FQDN. For example, all of these need to return "example.com": example.com foo.example.com bar.foo.example.com example.com:8080 foo.example.com:8080 bar.foo.example.com:8080 Here's what I have so far: Dim host = Request.Headers("Host") Dim pattern As String = "(?<hostname>(\w+)).(?<domainname>(\w+.\w+))" Dim theMatch = Regex.Match(host, pattern) ViewData("Message") = "Domain is: " + theMatch.Groups("domainname").ToString It fails for example.com:8080 and bar.foo.example.com:8080. Any ideas?

  • Help repaiting a Component

    - by serhio
I am working with Microsoft.VisualBasic.PowerPacks.RectangleShape, but the question is common for components or controls in general. I added to a TextRectangleShape : RectangleShape a Text property: Protected Overrides Sub OnPaint(ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.PaintEventArgs) MyBase.OnPaint(e) Dim f As Font = Me.Font Dim g As Graphics = e.Graphics Dim textRect As Rectangle = New Rectangle(Me.Location, Me.Size) Using br As New SolidBrush(Me._TextColor) g.DrawString(_Text, f, br, textRect) End Using End Sub Now when I move this control the text does not disappear from the former location. Maybe I could invalidate each time the Parent in the OnPaint, but if this is not a good solution if the parent has a time consuming repaint logic or I have a lot of my custom component moving at the same time. How do I properly repaint the component?

  • SQL bottleneck, how to fix

    - by masfenix
This is related to my previous thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3069806/sql-query-takes-about-10-20-minutes However, I kinda figured out the problem. The problem (as described in the previous thread) is not the insert (while its still slow), the problem is looping through the data itself Consider the following code: Dim rs As DAO.Recordset Dim sngStart As Single, sngEnd As Single Dim sngElapsed As Single Set rs = CurrentDb().QueryDefs("select-all").OpenRecordset MsgBox "All records retreived" sngStart = Timer Do While Not rs.EOF rs.MoveNext Loop sngEnd = Timer sngElapsed = Format(sngEnd - sngStart, "Fixed") ' Elapsed time. MsgBox ("The query took " & sngElapsed _ & " seconds to run.") As you can see, this loop does NOTHING. You'd expect it to finish in seconds, however it takes about 857 seconds to run (or 15 minutes). I dont know why it is so slow. Maybe the lotusnotes sql driver? any other ideas? (java based solution, any other solution) What my goal is: To get all the data from remote server and insert into local access table

  • convert server side vb.net to client side javascript

    - by rockinthesixstring
    I've got a function I wrote quite some time ago that works fine, but I'd like to speed up the process and lessen server load by doing the same job in Javascript. I seem to be able to GET textbox values ok, but I can't seem to SET textbox values (I'm'-a JS noob). Can anyone lend a hand in converting my VB.NET code to it's JS equivalent? Protected Sub txtSellingPrice_TextChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) _ Handles txtSellingPrice.TextChanged Dim SellingPrice As Double = Double.Parse(txtSellingPrice.Text.Replace("$", "")) Dim BallanceSheet As Double = If(txtBalanceSheet.Text = "", 0, Double.Parse(txtBalanceSheet.Text.Replace("$", ""))) Dim DownPayment As Double = If(txtDownPayment.Text = "", 0, Double.Parse(txtDownPayment.Text.Replace("$", ""))) txtGoodWill.Text = SellingPrice - BallanceSheet txtBalance.Text = SellingPrice - DownPayment txtSellingPriceMult.Text = SellingPrice End Sub I've got this so far, but I'm not sure how to get much further. function txtSellingPrice_OnChange() { var txtSellingPrice = document.getElementById('<%=txtSellingPrice.ClientID %>') var txtBalanceSheet = document.getElementById('<%=txtBalanceSheet.ClientID %>') var txtDownPayment = document.getElementById('<%=txtDownPayment.ClientID %>') }

  • System.IndexOutOfRange Exception Sending Gridview Values to DataTable

    - by SidC
Hello, I am writing an ASP.NET 3.5 application and need to send gridview values to a datatable for use in a listbox control as part of a quote process. I have written the following VB code in my Page_Load: Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Dim dtSelParts As DataTable = New DataTable("dtSelParts") Dim column As DataColumn = New DataColumn column.ColumnName = "PartName" column.ColumnName = "PartNumber" column.ColumnName = "Quantity" dtSelParts.Columns.Add(column) For Each row As GridViewRow In MySearch.Rows Dim drSelParts As DataRow drSelParts = dtSelParts.NewRow() For i As Integer = 0 To row.Cells.Count - 1 drSelParts(i) = row.Cells(i).Text Next Next End Sub When I run the partsearch.aspx page, I enter values in the row textbox for parts I want included in the listbox (to be included in quote). However, I receive the error message System.Index.OutOfRangeException: Cannot find column 1 which occurs on the line drSelParts(i) = row.Cells(i).Text. How might I correct the code and resolve the error? Thanks, Sid

  • VBS Script for modifying multi-value Active Directory display specifier

    - by sh-beta
Following the howto Extending the Active Directory Schema To Track Custom Info I'm able to setup a single-value schema attribute that is easily changeable via a context menu in ADUC. Multi-value schema attributes get considerably more complicated. Say (for the sake of argument) my value is "Projects" and each user may be a list as many projects as necessary. Following is a sad little script that will set Project to a single value: Dim oproject Dim oUser1 Dim temp1 Set oproject = Wscript.Arguments Set oUser1 = GetObject(oproject(0)) temp1 = InputBox("Project: " & oUser1.project & vbCRLF & vbCRLF & "Project") if temp1 <> "" then oUser1.Put "project",temp1 oUser1.SetInfo Set oUser1 = Nothing Set oproject = Nothing Set temp1 = Nothing WScript.Quit How can I modify this to allow, assign, and modify multiple values?

  • How do I assign selected WPF datagrid row columns to variables. (VB.NET)

    - by Peter
Hi, I have a datagrid with customer data such as ID, name, email, phone etc. When I select a row (with a button or selectionchanged) I want to store that row's columns in variables like dim email as string dim name as string email = dgCustomers.theselectedrow.theselectedcell name = dgCustomers.theselectedrow.theselectedcell If I have a datatable with only one row I know I can get column data with: dim email as string = CustomerDataTableInstance.rows(0).Item("Email") I don't know how to get the selected row number though when I have several rows and the user clicks one/uses the keyboard. The datagrid is bound to a datatable, not a class with object collections. Any help is appreciated!

  • Trying to use VB to automate some queries. Running into what looks like a string problem

    - by Jeff
Hi there I'm using MS Access 2003 and I'm trying to execute a few queries at once using VB. When I write out the query in SQL it works fine, but when I try to do it in VB it asks me to "Enter Parameter Value" for DEPA, then DND (which are the first few letters of a two strings I have). Here's the code: Option Compare Database Public Sub RemoveDupelicateDepartments() Dim oldID As String Dim newID As String Dim sqlStatement As String oldID = "DND-01" newID = "DEPA-04" sqlStatement = "UPDATE [Clean student table] SET [HomeDepartment]=" & newID & " WHERE [HomeDepartment]=" & oldID & ";" DoCmd.RunSQL sqlStatement & "" End Sub It looks to me as though it's taking in the string up to the - then nothing else. I dunno, that's why I'm asking lol. What should my code look like?
