• Extension GLX missing...on a desktop PC

  I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on a new PC with an Nvidia GTX 560 graphics card, but after installing the Nvidia proprietary drivers (either -current or -current-updates), Unity won't start. When trying to start it manually I get the message "extension GLX missing". I've searched around and found results like this question which point out it's a problem with Nvidia Optimus laptops. • How to distinguish doc, ppt, xls files, without looking at file extension

  So I was wondering how would you differentiate ppt, xls and doc files from each other in linux regardless of extensions. I tried 'file' but from the looks of it, all of MSOffice files are categorized under the same file type. Similarly I'm having trouble with docx, xlsx and pptx files, since they're essentially all zip files containing a bunch of xml. I also tried a python script importing the magic module, but no go. I'm trying to identify the actual file for a sandbox analysis. And for this specific purpose I need to find the actual file type in order to run it in the sandbox vm (the Windows vm runs everything by extension). Let's say my sample file is labeled as try.exe, but in reality it's just a doc file. My script will rename it as try.exe.doc, which would work fine for doc files. But since linux identifies all MSOffice files as simple DOC files then there's no way to identify ppt or xls files. As a result the sandbox wont' analyze the sample correctly.

• Joomla 1.6 site cannot add a new extension through admin interface

  I'm having a very frustrating problem with my Joomla 1.6 site. I cannot add any new extensions through the admin interface. I have tried to upload the extension, or to use the search folder option or even the direct link. Neither of these options work, and all that happens is that the page tries to load forever until it finally timesout with a blank white page (no further error messages). I have tried this with multiple browsers (Chrome,FF,IE) and I have tried it with different extensions (modules, components, templates - all the same result). So I don't think it has anything to do with what I am uploading, but more likely the problem is something with the post action. I have also seen the exact same error occur when I try to update menu items or even create new menu items. I am not getting this error with a duplicate of the site in the dev environment, but only get this on my shared web hosting live server. This is on a Windows IIS / PHP / mySQL environment. Any help would be much appreciated!

• Basic collision direction detection on 2d objects

  I am trying to develop a platform game for Android by using ANdroid GL Engine (ANGLE). And I am having trouble with collision detection. I have two objects which is shaped as rectangular. And no change in rotation. Here is a scheme of attributes of objects. What i am trying to do is when objects collide they block each other's movement on that direction. Every object has 4 boolean (bTop, bBottom, bRight, bLeft). For example when bBottom is true object can't advance on that direction. I came up with a solution but it seems it only works on one dimensional. Include all attributes of parent EO. 3) Add the validation code snippet to XXFndUserEOImpl.java as follows. 4) Create the substitution as follows. 5) Migrate files to $JAVA_TOP. xxcustom.oracle.apps.fnd.user.schema.server.XXFndUserEOImpl.javaxxcustom.oracle.apps.fnd.user.schema.server.XXFndUserEO.xml 6) Migrate the substitution.. 7) Bounce the server. 8) Verify the substitution has applied properly. Access Create User Page and create a User. You can see the validation message if user name length is less than 5.   I have a Kendo UI Grid that I am currently allowing filtering on multiple columns. I am wondering if there is a an alternative approach removing the outer switch statement? • OOP: how much program logic should be encapsulated within related objects/classes as methods?

  I have a simple program which can have an admin user or just a normal user. The program also has two classes: for UserAccount and AdminAccount. The things an admin will need to do (use cases) include Add_Account, Remove_Account, and so on. My question is, should I try to encapsulate these use-cases into the objects? Only someone who is an Admin, logged in with an AdminAccount, should be able to add and remove other accounts. I could have a class-less Sub-procedure that adds new UserAccount objects to the system and is called when an admin presses the 'Add Account' button. Alternatively, I could place that procedure as a method inside the AdminAccount object, and have the button event execute some code like 'Admin.AddUser(name, password).' I'm more inclined to go with the first option, but I'm not sure how far this OO business is supposed to go.

  Currently I'm working on a vector class in C# and now I'm coming to the point, where I've to figure out, how i want to implement the functions for interpolation between two vectors. At first I came up with implementing the functions directly into the vector class... public class Vector3D { public static Vector3D LinearInterpolate(Vector3D vector1, Vector3D vector2, double factor) { ... } public Vector3D LinearInterpolate(Vector3D other, double factor { ... } } (I always offer both: a static method with two vectors as parameters and one non-static, with only one vector as parameter) ...but then I got the idea to use extension methods (defined in a seperate class called "Interpolation" for example), since interpolation isn't really a thing only available for vectors. So this could be another solution: public class Vector3D { ... } public static class Interpolation { public static Vector3D LinearInterpolate(this Vector3D vector, Vector3D other, double factor) { ... } } So here an example how you'd use the different possibilities: { var vec1 = new Vector3D(5, 3, 1); var vec2 = new Vector3D(4, 2, 0); Vector3D vec3; vec3 = vec1.LinearInterpolate(vec2, 0.5); //1 vec3 = Vector3D.LinearInterpolate(vec1, vec2, 0.5); //2 //or with extension-methods vec3 = vec1.LinearInterpolate(vec2, 0.5); //3 (same as 1) vec3 = Interpolation.LinearInterpolation(vec1, vec2, 0.5); //4 } So I really don't know which design is better. • Business Objects Web Intelligence-style reporting in a Winform app. Is this possible?

  I have a WinForm app that displays results in a Gridview control. If a user right mouse clicks on a row, he can then, from a popup menu, select a command to perform on the row much like windows File Explorer. But now I want to be able to give the user the ability to construct a filter so that he can control which rows are displayed in the grid w/o effecting the functionality of the application. I would also like the user to be able to select the columns/fields that he sees in the grid. For the basis of this question, let's assume that the data displayed in grid comes from a single table. business Objects' Web Intelligence and Desktop Intelligence applications give me very flexible and powerful reporting capabilities, but I want to integrate this capability into my WinForm application. Does Business Objects, or maybe Crystal Reports provide this sort of functionality? I can construct my own query builder but I'd rather not reinvent sliced bread.

• Using extension methods to decrease the surface area of a C# interface

  An interface defines a contract to be implemented by one or more classes.  One of the keys to a well-designed interface is defining a very specific range of functionality. The profile of the interface should be limited to a single purpose & should have the minimum methods required to implement this functionality.  Keeping the interface tight will keep those implementing the interface from getting lazy & not implementing it properly.  I've seen too many overly broad interfaces that aren't fully implemented by developers.  Instead, they just throw a NotImplementedException for the method they didn't implement. One way to help with this issue, is by using extension methods to move overloaded method definitions outside of the interface. • Firefox Extension needs to get cookie from PHP redirected external page.

  I am writing a firefox extension that interacts with a JSON server interface. I receive a url to the server which then redirects to the client site that provides the cookie. I need to be able to set this cookie in the users browser without physically loading it in the browser. Is this possible through an AJAX call? I tried using a hidden iframe, however firefox does not seem to like a php redirect in the iframe. My current solution is to load the site in a second tab that never gains focus and then auto close it when the cookie is set. This is very messy and would prefer something more streamlines. Any thoughts?

  I have a ff extension which creates a popup and shows dynamic data in it. basically when the popup opens a js function is run which then constructs the popup list by appending the items like this var myMenuPopup = document.getElementById("file-popup4"); newItem = document.createElement("menuitem"); newItem.setAttribute("label", namelist[m]); newItem.setAttribute("id", "item" + m); Now I need to have the click functionality too on these newly added menuitems. putting the atttribute and forming the function is easy. I can have a function to be run when they are clicked. But i need to pass namelist[i] to the function and it will act according to the namelist parameter.If i do: newItem.setAttribute("oncommand" , finalclick(namelist[m])); it runs the function everytime the popup opens runs the function without even clicking on it on the other hand if i use quotes i.i if i do newItem.setAttribute("oncommand" , "finalclick(namelist[m])"); it doesnot open even on clicking giving error : namelist is not defined.

  I have a custom subclass of BindingList<T> that I want to execute a LINQ query over using the handy extension methods. For example: public int GetSum(MyList<T> list) { return list.Sum(x => x.Value); } But the compiler complains that it can't resolve Sum because it doesn't recognize list as an IEnumerable<T>, which it obviously is, because this works: public int GetSum(MyList<T> list) { return ((IEnumerable<T>)list).Sum(x => x.Value); } Anyone have a clever way I can avoid the ugly and unecessary cast?

• Extension method question. Why do I need to use someObj = someObj.somemethod();

  Hi All, I have a simple extension method that I would like to use to add an item to an array of items. public static T[] addElement<T>(this T[] array, T elementToAdd) { var list = new List<T>(array) {elementToAdd}; return list.ToArray(); } this works ok, but when I use it, I am having to set the array equal to the return value. I see that I am returning an Array. I likely want this method to be void, but I would like the item added. Does anyone have any ideas on what I need to do , to make this work the way I am wanting? Instead of someArray = someArray.addElement(item), I just want to do someArray.addElement(item) and then someArray be ready to go. What am I missing here? Thanks, ~ck in San Diego

• SQL Developer Database Diff – Compare Objects From Multiple Schemas

  Ever wonder why Database Diff isn’t called Schema Diff? One reason is because SQL Developer allows you select objects from more than one schema in the ‘Source’ connection for the compare. Simply use the ‘More’ dialog view and select as many tables from as many different schemas as you require Now, before you get around to testing this – as you should never believe what I say, trust but verify – two things you need to know: I’m using SQL Developer version 3.2 On the initial screen you need to use the ‘Maintain’ option Maintain tells SQL Developer to use the schema designation in the source connection to find the same corresponding object in the destination schema. Choose ‘maintain’ if you want to compare objects in the same schema in the destination but don’t have the user login for that schema. So after you’ve selected your databases, your diff preferences, and your objects – you’re ready to perform the compare and review your results. The DIFF Report Notice the highlighted text, SQL Developer is ‘maintaining’ the Schema context from the two databases. Short and sweet. That’s pretty much all there is to doing a compare with SQL Developer with multiple schemas involved. You may have noticed in some posts lately that my editor screenshots had a ‘green screen’ look and feel to them. What’s with the black background in your editors? In the SQL Developer preferences, you can set your editor color schemes. I started with the ‘Twilight’ scheme (team Jacob in case you’re wondering) and then customized it further by going with a default green font color. You could go pretty crazy in here, and I’m assuming 90% of you could care less and will just stick with the original. But for those of you who are particular about your IDE styling – go crazy! • Center Pictures and Other Objects in Office 2007 & 2010

  Sometimes it can be difficult to center a picture in a document just by dragging it dragging it around. Today we show you how to center pictures, images, and other objects perfectly in Word and PowerPoint. Note: For this tutorial we’re using Office 2010, but the steps are nearly identical in 2007. Centering a Picture in Word First let’s insert a picture into our document.  Click the Insert tab, and then click Picture. Once you select the picture you want, it will be added to your document.  Usually, pictures are added wherever your curser was in the document, so in a blank document it will be added at the top left. Also notice Picture Tools show up in the Ribbon after inserting an image. Note: The following menu items are available in Picture Tools Format tab which is displayed when you select the object or image you’re working with. How do we align the picture just like we want?  Click Position to get some quick placement options, including centered in the middle of the document or on the top.    However, for more advanced placement, we can use the Align tool.  If Word isn’t maximized, you may only see the icon without the “Align” label. Notice the tools were grayed out in the menu by default.  To be able to change the Alignment, we need to first change the text wrap settings. Click the Wrap Text button, and any option other than “In Line with Text”.  Your choice will depend on the document you’re writing, just choose the option that works best in the document.   Now, select the Align tools again.  You can now position your image precisely with these options. Align Center will position your picture in the center of the page widthwise. Align Middle will put the picture in the middle of the page height-wise. This works the same with textboxes.  Simply click the Align button in the Format tab, and you can center it in the page. And if you’d like to align several objects together, simply select them all, click Group, and then select Group from the menu.   Now, in the align tools, you can center the whole group on your page for a heading, or whatever you want to use the pictures for. These steps also work the same with Office 2007. Center objects in PowerPoint This works similar in PowerPoint, except that pictures are automatically set for square wrapping automatically, so you don’t have to change anything.  Simply insert the picture or other object of your choice, click Align, and choose the option you want. • Game Engine that allows for objects being placed in-game

  I am looking for a game engine with multiplayer support that allows for players to place objects in the terrain. (eg. in TF2 one can place teleporters, etc...or in minecraft one can place blocks). I don't need the placeable objects to be interactive like in TF2, but I just need an engine that won't make me code this from scratch. I have decent knowledge of Python, PHP, HTML, C++ and C# (and a small knowledge of Lua scripting, although I have only been at it for a few months) so I should be able to handle most engines. So far I have looked at UDK and Cryengine, and wasn't thrilled with either.

• Exposing warnings\errors from data objects (that are also list returned)

  I'm exposing Data objects via service oriented assembly (which on future usages might become a WCF service). The data object is tree designed, as well as formed from allot of properties.Moreover, some services return one objects, others retrieve a list of them (thus disables throwing exceptions). I now want to expose data flow warnings and wondering what's the best way to do it having to things to consider: (1) seperation (2) ease of access. On the one hand, i want the UI team to be able to access a fields warnings (or errors) without having them mapping the field names to an external source but on the other hand, i don't want the warnings "hanged" on the object itself (as i don't see it a correct design). I tought of creating a new type of wrapper for each field, that'll expose events and they'll have to register the one's they care about (but totally not sure) I'll be happy to hear your thoughts. Could you please direct me to a respectful design pattern ? what dp will do best here ? Thank you very much!

• Help with Collision of spawned object(postion fixed) with objects that there are translating on screen

  Hey guys I am creating a game using Corona SDK and so coding it in Lua. So there are 2 separate functions, To translate the hit objects and change their color when they are tapped The link below is the code I am using to for the first function http://developer.anscamobile.com/sample-code/fishies Spawn objects that will hit the translating objects on collision. Alos on collision the spawned object disappears and the translating object bears a color(indicating the collision). In addition the size of this spawned object is dependent on i/p volume level. Its almost as if the translating object and the spawn object are on different layers. The translating object passes through the spawn object freely.
