• Install Trac Without Setting Up a VirtualHost in Apache?

  I'm trying to set up Trac to test out it's functionality, and the only guides I can find online talk about setting up a VirtualHost. Right now I am under the impression that I need access to a DNS server to properly use the VirtualHost directive, and for various reasons I don't have access to one. Is it possible to set up Trac without setting up a VirtualHost? I haven't had any luck. If I run the site with tracd, it works - which means that at least part of it is set up properly. Right now all I have is an Apache Directory directive pointing to /pathToTracSite/htdocs/, and when I visit the trac location, all I get when viewing the site from a browser is an empty directory (which makes sense, because htdocs/ is empty). My server is running Apache2 I know I'm missing a lot here, because I don't understand Apache the Trac system very well - any help would be appreciated.

  Hi, I,m having a web server for testing purposes to host my domain http://www.domain.com which run perfectly. Below is server specs: OS Freebsd 7.2 MySQL 5.1.33 Apache 2.2.11 PHP 5.2.9 I can do alias directory in my httpd.conf so that my domain can have subdirectory hosting in the same server such as httpd://domain.com/subdomain1, httpd://domain.com/subdomain2 and so on. All my subdomain1 and subdomain2 directory folders reside on the same web server but only different location. Below is my example from httpd.conf for the alias subdomain1 block: Alias /subdomain1 "/usr/local/www/subdomain1" <Directory "/usr/local/www/subdomain1"> Options +Indexes AllowOverride None allow from all </Directory> I,m looking a way in order my subdomain1 and subdomain2 directory is read from another server in my LAN but remain hosted as httpd://domain.com/subdomain1. • Clipboard app that automatically saves to Web share folder ?

  I currently use SnagIt and have used Windows 7 Snipping tools. These tools allow you to copy a piece of your screen the clipboard and then paste it into other applications on your desktop. They work with Outlook and it's really useful as you don't have to save the image to do a write-up or send an email. Problem is - you can't paste clipboard images into webforms. Gmail web does have image insert feature, but it only works on web images that you copied as it extracts the full url from your copy and uses that. It does not work on with images in your local clipboard. Does anybody know of an application that would allow to clip and save directly to a web folder, maybe something that replaces your clipboard with the URL of the save image location? It would be awesome if the picasa web client or evernote allowed actual clipboard pasting. Instead they ask for a file to upload.

• Ok to edit task's xml file in c:\windows\system32\Tasks?

  I wrote a PowerShell script that check the executable in the < action tag for each task in the Task directory and mark the < enabled TRUEorFALSE< / enabled tag as false/true depending on the validity of the digital signature of the executable. After reading each task, the script re-saves the task file with the same name, type and location. Now my issue is that I get this message when I lunch task scheduler: “Task XYZ: The task image is corrupt or has been tampered with.” This message appears for all the tasks that were scanned and saved. Does editing task’s xml file directly corrupt the task? Is there any task decency that may cause this error(ex: registry value)?

• Redundant Router and Load Balancing vs. DDoS attack

  With a small server farm at a hoster with great support and conditions, I worry about the increasing number of DDoS attacks against this hoster (not my web project, but other clients on the same location). I have booked a redundant router and load balancer as managed service with this hoster to share the load with all the dedicated servers. However, I was lost again today because another one's project was attacked with DDoS for hours :-( Each hour means hundreds of dollars loss whenever my adserver and tracking is not reachable. Even time-out advertising have to be paid by me but can not be resold to my clients without the servers being available. All the time, the servers, the load and traffic is OK and health, but no chance to keep this stable/online if the hoster is vulnerable. Anyone has ideas or suggestions how to protect - even against DDoS?

• Looking for a router with multiple WAN ports and load balancing

  I'm going to be moving in a few months. The location I'm moving to is great except it's on a road with very few people, so the internet access option is limited to DSL at 1.6Mbps down, 384kbps up. This is much slower than I'm used to. One option is to get at least two of the DSL lines. There's also good possibility that I'll be able to get WiMax or similar. I've been looking around a bit and it seems like what I need is a load balancing router with multiple WAN ports. Can anyone recommend some good ones? I could also go with a small power efficient Linux box with multiple NICs. What would be good software for that? It'd need to be able to handle around 10Mbps. Thanks for any help

• After recovery to restore point, Windows 7 missing pinned items and favorites

  I believe a recent windows update was interrupted. The next day, I could not logon and was presented with the error "User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded". I followed some advice from http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-security/help-user-profile-service-service-failed-the-logon/4ed66b21-c23e-42f1-98b2-706dcf931fae and logged in with a different admin account and used system restore to restore to a recent restore point. Most everything is working fine, but I have noticed two odd things: Any items that were pinned to my start menu or task bar were not accessible. I had to un-pin and re-pin the items. In Windows Explorer, my favorites are gone and I can't seem to add any favorites. If I browse to a folder and right click on the Favorites Icon and select "add current location to favorites" nothing is saved. I'd appreciate any explanation to understand why these things did not get recovered properly and any help fixing the favorite functionality.

• Why does my downloads folder take so long to load?

  When I open my downloads folder, no files appear, just a message saying "This folder is empty". I see the address bar progress slowly creeping along, and after about thirty seconds the files and folders appear. This problem only occurs in the downloads folder. If I search for a file in the downloads folder, it comes up, and if I right click on it and select "Open File Location", everything shows up instantly. I am using Windows 8, but I think I had a similar problem once in Windows 7. Sadly I can't remember how I fixed it.

• CPanel: Every url is being redirected to http://:2083

  On my cpanel server, I restored about 50 accounts from crashed cpanel server. All of the sites were working fine, but suddenly without changing anything, every site started to get redirected to url "http://:2083/"., There is nothing in logs, no errors. when i do wget it says: wget grinfeld.com.br --2012-09-04 13:18:23-- http://grinfeld.com.br/ Resolving grinfeld.com.br... 198.101.221.254 Connecting to grinfeld.com.br|198.101.221.254|:80... connected. • How to handle knowledge handover effectively?

  Let's say a large enterprise opens a new office in (insert random location here) and want the new colleges up to speed as fast as possible. Let's also say this enterprise is a very typical one with a complex environment, lots of history and almost full lack of documentation. What's already been decided is that the new colleges will receive howto-style documentation for the most typical tasks and will get seme architecture documentation for some of the more complicated systems. Any ideas about improving this process? And more specifically, how should such a howto document look like to be helpful?

• Worker processes not starting in IIS 7.5. What should I check?

  I have a Windows 7 machine (Windows version 6.1.7601 SP1 Build 7601) with IIS installed. At some point the installation appears to have become 'corrupted' in some way, as any requests are now met with the message: Service Unavailable HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable. In IIS manager IIS is started and the app pool I am using reports itself as 'Started', yet there is no w3wp.exe process listed in the process list in task manager (I am a local admin and have clicked the 'Show processes from all users' button. I have enabled logging for the web site (at default location of %SystemDrive%\inetpub\logs\LogFiles), but this folder is empty. I am assuming that this log output is written by w3wp.exe as it handles requests (no w3wp.exe, no log file?). Presumably there is another layer of request handling that is responsible for starting the worker processes, does thsi layer have log files I can check, and/or can I uninstall/re-install that layer? The scenario I want to achieve is: Client makes HTTPS request to nginx nginx proxies request over HTTP to the backend nginx receives response from backend over HTTP. nginx passes this back to the client over HTTPS My current config (where backend is configured correctly) is: server { listen 80; server_name localhost; location ~ .* { proxy_pass http://backend; proxy_redirect http://backend https://$host; proxy_set_header Host $host; } } My problem is the response to the client (step 4) is sent over HTTP not HTTPS. Any ideas?

• 32bit ODBC Postgres driver on Windows 2008 R2 x64

  I'm trying to install the Postgres ODBC 32bit driver on a Windows 2008 R2 64bit machine. After installing it, with no errors, I go to the ODBC panel, the 32bit version under the /syswow64 folder and try to add the driver, select the Postgres driver from the list but I get an error 126, saying he can't find the driver at the specified path. The problem is that the path he shows me, is the exact path the driver is in, I double checked on the registery (on the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\ location) and it's fine there too. A couple more people on technet have the same issue too. Did anyone ever run into this? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. edit: the driver works fine on my win7 x64 test machine, this behaviour only happens on the server.

When I run the kickstart I keep getting all these errors that have to do with python files for configuring partitions. The only actual maybe useful piece of information is KeyError /dev/sda/ I tried a number of alterations of this configuration but nothing really worked. Any ideas?

  I have a signup page on a subdomain like: https://signup.mysite.com It should only be accessible via HTTPS but I'm worried people might somehow stumble upon it via HTTP and get a 404. My html/server block in nginx looks like this: html { server { listen 443; server_name signup.mysite.com; ssl on; ssl_certificate /path/to/my/cert; ssl_certificate_key /path/to/my/key; ssl_session_timeout 30m; location / { root /path/to/my/rails/app/public; index index.html; passenger_enabled on; } } } What can I add so that people who go to http://signup.mysite.com get redirected to https://signup.mysite.com ? (FYI I know there are Rails plugins that can force SSL but was hoping to avoid that)

• Launch apps or run commands on Windows via shortcuts

  Is it possible to register shortcuts on Windows 7 so that regardless where you are looking (Desktop, a folder etc) the shortcut gets "heard" and the appropriate action is performed. For example, creating a shortcut in the System32 folder which will work if you use Run with the shortcut's name, will not work if you set a key combination when focus is set on the Desktop for example. Is there a native way of registering top-level shortcuts or even an application for enabling this? Example of things I want keyboard shortcuts for: open a specific folder like %path% create a new .js file in the current folder launch an application eventually with its path set to the current location if the app supports this (e.g. command prompt) Thank you.

• Install Windows 8 Apps to custom directory

  I'm running Windows 8 Pro on a laptop. I initially installed the OS just to fiddle round with it and get to know something I'd inevitably end up having to fix for someone. The problem being I only gave the partition about 32gb and that ran out pretty quick. I'd like to install office and get used to that as well but unfortunately I'm a few gigabytes short. I'd like to know if I can change the install location of office 2013 and other apps so that I can run them from another partition because there is no space left to the right of this partition I can't extend it.

• Why does Hyper-V and Windows Backup crash (BSOD) after successfull backup?

  Hello I am running Server 2008 R2 with a handful of Hyper-V guest nodes. If Windows backup runs without any of the Hyper-V nodes running, the server is fine. If Hyper-V runs a backup while the Hyper-V nodes are running, it is fine until a few minutes after the backup completes, and then it BSODs. The storage location for the backup is iSCSI - I am wondering if anyone has any input on what might be causing this? I don't have the Hyper-V nodes setup on a vlan and there is only one NIC on the server. Is it possible this is a networking / driver issue, and if so how would I reconfigure the networking to fix this?

  I have a VPN connection on a Windows 7 machine. It's set up to connect to a server in US. Is it possible, and if so how, to setup so that .com destinations uses the vpn interface and .se destinations uses the "normal" connection? Edit (clarification): This is for outbound connections. I.e. the machine conencts to a server on foo.com and uses the VPN and the machine connects to bar.se and uses the "normal" interface. Let's say foo.com has an IP filter that ensures users are located in USA, if I go through the VPN I get a US ip and everything is fine. But tif all traffic goes this way the bar.se server that has a IP filter ensuring users are in Sweden will complain. So I want to route the traffic depending on server location. US servers through VPN and others through the normal interface.

• How to Create a shortcut to files / folders on a drive with different / changing letters (root)?

  I have seen this question asked and answered many times but the location one usually desires to create the shortcut is on the actual drive with the different letters. I would like to create the shortcut on the drive with the permanent letter. So, let me explain further. I have a C Drive and a G Drive. The C Drive is always C and it's on a Windows XP computer. The G drive may be G today, but H tomorrow. How can I create a permanently working shortcut on the C Drive that points to the G, sometimes H, external hard drive? P.S. I am referring to an external hard drive, but I would also (not instead) be interested in the answer if it were a usb flash drive. (Keep in mind the shortcut is being created on the drive with the permanent letter). Thanks.

  Can I put a switch before my router in my home network?   Im having some serious trouble making CoovaAP-powered router get network settings from modem. Wireless router works in captive portal mode (so it handles user login on the same device). But DNS settings and connection ip (for router) are not set as they supposed to via DHCP on modem. It makes installation in other location really complicated, because you have to go and set everything manually. For now i use google`s dns servers. What`s the way to make router self-configurable via modem's dhcp ?

• My powershell script wont save a file when run using Task Scheduler, do I need to specify a specific argument?

  I have a script that downloads a temporary Excel file, copies parts of it to a new file, and saves it to a specific location on the network. The problem I'm having is that the new file is never created/saved. If I run the script locally (through cmd.exe, powershell, or powershell ise), it WILL save the file locally, or to the network. If I try running the script via a schedule or on-demand via Task Scheduler, the temporary file is created, but the final document is never created or saved. Is there a specific argument I need to pass, or anything I could be doing wrong? This is the command I'm currently using: powershell.exe -file C:\path\to\my\powershell\script\thescript.ps1 Since it calls environment variables, and other variables relative to the scripts positon, I also set "Start in" to C:\path\to\my\powershell\script\

• Verifying Time Machine backups

  I'm preparing my system for a Snow Leopard upgrade, and I prepare for the worst case scenario: full reinstall and restore. I would like to verify that my Time Machine backups are valid, and will restore correctly. My Time Machine backups go to a Linux server running Netatalk, and the backups complete successfully. How do I do a test restore to an alternative location, or otherwise verify my data without overwriting any existing files? Do I need to save anything in particular externally to make sure I can access the backups if I have to reinstall from scratch?
