  I regularly update my ubuntu (10.04), and new minor versions keep accumulating on the GRUB screen. Right now I have 5 different versions listed on the GRUB, even though I always select the latest version to work with. Am I supposed to do anything to get rid of the old version references? Do these old versions affect disk space/performance?

  Hi, In C++, there is a fwrite() which writes a buffer to a file on disk: http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/clibrary/cstdio/fwrite/ Can you please tell me if there is any buffer inside that fwrite implementation? i.e. if I call fwrite() multiple times (say 10 times), does it actually invoke file i/o 10 different times?   I have an HD 250 Gb It is portioned to C,D,E C has 50 GB D has 50 GB and the rest is given to E, On C I have Windows 7, I decided to install Opensuse On E. I have installed Opensuse Successfully. Now Opensuse loader shows Windows7 option when I it loads but, when I chose to load windows 7 I get " A Disk read error occured, press ctrl+alt+e to restart". • Error trying to transform image < 1 MB in App Engine

  So I know that App Engine prevents working with images greater than 1 MB in size, but I'm getting a RequestTooLargeError when I call images.resize on an jpg that is 400K on disk. The dimensions of the jpg are 1600 x 1200, so is it that app engine can't handle resizing images over 1 megapixel, even if the image file itself is a compressed format that is smaller than 1 MB?

  I have a scheduled task that is very IO intensive (deleting hundreds of thousands of files). For disk space reasons, this job has to be performed reasonably quickly. On win2k8, scheduled tasks always have a low IO priority. Raising the priority of the process did not change the IO priority. Is there any way to get a scheduled task to have a normal IO priority?

• Tools for debugging when debugger can't get you there?

  I have a fairly complex (approx 200,000 lines of C++ code) application that has decided to crash, although it crashes a little differently on a couple of different systems. The trick is that it doesn't crash or trap out in debugger. It only crashes when the application .EXE is run independently (either the debug EXE or the release EXE - both behave the same way). When it crashes in the debug EXE, and I get it to start debugging, the call stack is buried down into the windows/MFC part of things, and isn't reflecting any of my code. Perhaps I'm seeing a stack corruption of some sort, but I'm just not sure at the moment. My question is more general - it's about tools and techniques. I'm an old programmer (C and assembly language days), and a relative newcomer (couple/few years) to C++ and Visual Studio (2003 for this projecT). Are there tricks or techniques anyone's had success with in tracking down crashing issues when you cannot make the software crash in a debugger session? Stuff like permission issues, for example? The only thing I've thought of is to start plugging in debug/status messages to a logfile, but that's a long, hard way to go. Been there, done that. Any better suggestions? Am I missing some tools that would help? Is VS 2008 better for this kind of thing? Thanks for any guidance. Some very smart people here (you know who you are!). cheers.

We are interested in using the new Secondary Index feature available in the 0.7 but couldn't find any documentation on how the new index is stored.   In CouchDb's documentation, the described method of deleting document attachments is to send a DELETE call to the attachment's url. However, I have noticed that if you edit the document and remove the attachment stub from the _attachment field, it will not be accessible anymore. If i remove foo.txt from the document below and save to CouchDb it will be gone the next time I access the document: { "_id":"attachment_doc", "_rev":1589456116, "_attachments": { "foo.txt": { "stub":true, "content_type":"text/plain", "length":29 } } } Is the attachment actually deleted on disk or is just the reference to it deleted?
