  Hi, I am a newbie to this forum,I was going through the documents of both Blackberry Widget and Java SDK. I have the following doubts to get clarified:- 1) Advantages and disadvantages of Java SDK and Widget SDK? 2) When to go for Java SDK and Widget SDK? 3) Both Java and Widget applications require the latest blackberry OS 5.0? OR whether they are compatible with the lower versions as well? 4) Whatever developed with Java SDK can be done with widget SDK? similarly the vice-versa? 5) Is it possible to create the .java classes for Widget application development? 6) Whether all the blackberry models supports both Java and Widget ? 7) What are the Databases the blackberry Java and Widget supports? • Compiling .NET component that uses a non specific required version of a 3rd Party Vendor component

  If someone were to develop a .NET component that relied on non specific versions of a vendor DLL - let's say it worked with My3rdPartyComponent.dll which is a .NET assembly, but it didn't matter which version. Some instances of classes found in this component would need to be passed into my component. Developers would reference my component dll but not have access to the source code. Basically, I want to be able to require the user to pass in an instance of 3rdPartyComponent.MyClass to my component functions but I do not care if it's version 1.1, 2.2, 2.23.980, etc of the 3rd party dll. Is there a way to do this while still typing the parameter I want to be passed in to my component? I don't want to use Object as the reference. In my component project I could specify SpecificVersion=True on the assembly reference. Will this solve my problem or will there be other 'dll hell' issues to deal with that I am not seeing?

• Does MS Test provide a default value equals comparison?

  I want to test for example int orderId = myRepository.SubmitOrder(orderA); orderB = myRepository.GetOrder(orderId); Assert.AreEqual(orderA, orderB); // fail Obviously I need a value comparison here, but I don't want to have to provide an overridden Equals implementation for all of my classes purely for the sake of testing (it wouldn't be of any use in the rest of the app). Is there a provided generic method that just checks every field using reflection? Or if not, it is possible to write my own?

  In the dependencies section of a cabal file: Build-Depends: base >= 3 && < 5, transformers >= 0.2.0 Should I be doing something like Build-Depends: base >= 3 && < 5, transformers >= 0.2.0 && < 0.3.0 (putting upper limits on versions of packages I depend on) or not? I'll use a real example: my "List" package on Hackage (List monad transformer and class) If I don't put the limit - my package could break by a change in "transformers" If I do put the limit - a user that uses "transformers" but is using a newer version of it will not be able to use lift and liftIO with ListT because it's only an instance of these classes of transformers-0.2.x I guess that applications should always put upper limits so that they never break, so this question is only about libraries: Shall I use the upper version limit on dependencies or not?

  I was just remembering back my university classes and was wondering to know if anyone out here even used the "Z notation" in a professional environment. I honestly must say that it was the single most boring class that I have ever attended in my life. Maybe because of the teacher, but at the time we really all thought it was a big waste of time. I might have been wrong, which is why I'd like to hear you about it. If you are using it or some derived language (Z++), I'd just like to know how is it useful for you.   Today, I found myself coding something like this ... public class LocalEnums { public LocalEnums() { } public void foo() { enum LocalEnum { A,B,C }; // .... // class LocalClass { } } } and I was kind of surprised when the compiler reported an error on the local enum: The member enum LocalEnum cannot be local Why can't enums be declared local like classes? I found this very useful in certain situations. In the case I was working, the rest of the code didn't need to know anything about the enum. Is there any structural/design conflict that explains why this is not possible or could this be a future feature of Java?

• Logging from symfony's model layer

  I'm currently working on a project with symfony 1.4 and Doctrine 1.2. I'm looking for a proper way to do logging from the model layer. In some model classes I use the record hook postSave() to create a ZIP file using exec() (since PHP zip doesn't provide for storage method 'Stored'). To be sure that everythings works fine I check the return code and log an error if something goes wrong. My first naive approach was to do it like this: if ($returnCode != 0) { sfContext::getInstance()->getLogger()->debug(...); } As you know, this doesn't work so well because sfContext belongs to the controller layer and shouldn't be used from the model layer. My next try was to use the model's constructor to pass in an sfLogger instance, but this doesn't work due to Doctrine 1.2 reserving the constructor for internal use (Doctrine 1.2 Documentation). I'm looking forward for your suggestions!

  This is a simple question that can be answered fast by someone who's more familiar with Objective-C than I am- how can one add more than 2 delegates to a Class? To clarify, I'm used to putting delegates in classes like this: @interface ViewController : UIViewController <UIWebViewDelegate> { ... When I try to put two delegates: @interface ViewController : UIViewController <UIWebViewDelegate> <UITextFieldDelegate> { ... ...the app gives many errors, none of which help with the situation. Is there a separator that I need to put between the delegates, or is it possible at all to have more than two? Thanks for any help in advance.

• Is there a way in Sphinx/Pygments to emphasize one or more lines of code in literal includes?

  In some sphinx docs I am writing, I am including code samples from an ancillary file like so: .. literalinclude:: mymodule.py :pyobject: MyClass :linenos: This particular doc is a tutorial, where the classes are build up step by step. What I would like to do is include the entire class or a single method, and emphasize only the lines of interest to that section. That way the context is preserved but the interesting parts are obvious at a glance. Right now I have resorted to just referring to line numbers in the text, which is ok, but far from ideal. Looking at the docs and code for sphinx and pygments I don't find an obvious way to do this. I'm not opposed to patching them or doing something tricky in conf.py, but I wondered if anyone had solved this.

  Hi, I'm trying to generate C# code classes with SvcUtil.exe instead of Xsd.exe. The latter is giving me some problems. Command line: SvcUtil.exe myschema.xsd /dconly /ser:XmlSerializer Several SvcUtil problems are described and solved here: http://blog.shutupandcode.net/?p=761 One problem I can't solve is this one: Error: Type 'DatafieldDescription' in namespace '' cannot be imported. Attributes must be optional and from namespace 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/2003/10/Seri alization/'. Either change the schema so that the types can map to data contract types or use ImportXmlType or use a different serializer. ' I changed <xs:attribute name="Order" use="required"> to <xs:attribute name="Order" use="optional"> and <xs:attribute name="Order"> But the error remains. Is it possible to use attributes, or do I have to delete them all (in that case, this excercition is over)?

  Hello! I write a simple OLAP viewer for my web-site. Here are the classes (abstract example): Employee { ID; Name; Roles[]; //What Employee can do } Order { Price; Employee Manager; Employee Executive; //Maybe wrong english. The person which perform order } Employee can be Manager and Executive in the order at the same time. This means that Employee role is not fixed. I have to group orders by employees and finally get IGrouping with Employee key. So .GroupBy(el=new {el.Manager,el.Executive}) is not allowed. I considered some tricks with IEqualityComparable, but found no solution. If somrbody will help I'll be vary glad, thank you.

• When to release the model(representedObject) of the corresponding UIViewController.

  Hi, In AppKit we have "representedObject" available through NSViewController, this representedObject is generally set to ModelController or the model which the NSViewController displays, this works great with bindings as you just set the new representedObject and model details are updated in the view, BUT in case of iPhone (UIKit, with NO Cocoa bindings available), there is no such representedObject in UIViewController so here are few things I am interested in knowing:- What is the best/recommended way of binding the model to the UIViewController?, preferably dont want to maintain lot of IBOutlets and calls setters to updated the changed model data for display in view. How/When should the related model of the UIViewController be released? When is the -[UIViewController dealloc] called, in the typical iPhone application. Am looking for architecting some classes so that the UIViewController coordinates between the view and the model, but at the same time, deallocs the model when ever not necessary. TIA.

  I am binding an object of other class to a silverlight list box itemsource.I want to fire the click event of a button,but I don't want to define command under this class. I have defined other class and have defined command inside it. Now the question is how to bind the command of this class to the command property of that button. There are two classes A and B I am binding the item source of a listbox to A and i have defined a command in B and i need this command to bind with the button present inside the listbox.(ie..listbox-listboxitem-button) Is there any way to bind to a property outside of the current data context?

  It is possible to access bits of MATLAB's internal java code to programmatically change MATLAB itself. For example, you can programmatically open a document in the editor using editorServices = com.mathworks.mlservices.MLEditorServices; editorServices.newDocument() %older versions of MATLAB seem to use new() You can see the method signatures (but not what they do) using viewmethods. viewmethods(com.mathworks.mlservices.MLEditorServices) I have a few related questions about using these Java methods. Firstly, is there any documentation on these things (either from the Mathworks or otherwise)? Secondly, how do you find out what methods are available? The ones I've come across appear to be contained in JAR files in matlabroot\java\jar, but I'm not sure what the best way to inspect a JAR file is. Thirdly, are there functions for inspecting the classes, other than viewmethods? Finally, are there any really useful methods that anyone has found?

• Is System.AddIn mostly about making it easier to use Remoting or does it make it harder to do so?

  It takes at least 7 assemblies and restricting my AddIn's data model to data types that remoting can deal with before the appdomain isolation features begin to work. It is so complex! The System.AddIn teams blog implies to me they were trying to re-create a mental model of COM, a model I never understood very well in the first place and am not sold on the benefits. (If COM is so good why's it dead?-rhetorical question.) If I don't need to mirror or interop with legacy COM (like VSTO does using System.AddIn), is it possible to just create some classes that load load in a new AppDomain? I can write the discovery code my self, I've done it before and a naive implementation is pretty fast because I'm not like iterating over the assemblies in the GAC! So my specific question is, can I get the AppDomain isolation that AddIns provide with a few code Remoting snippets, and what would those be?

  Hey all, I'm looking for some ANTLR examples, I tried googling a bit but I found certain things which didn't fit my requirments. I found the Mantra project, but it's statically typed and is 'too' big for me at this moment, then I found 'pie' as interpreter, which is dynamically typed, which what I want, but it uses a syntax-directed interpreter. I'm looking for a pretty small language which is dynamically typed and uses AST's if possible. It doesn't need to be advanced, if it would have classes I would already be very happy. • Phantom updates due to decimal precision on calculated properties

  This article describes my problem. I have several properties that are calculated. These are typed as decimal(9,2) in SQL Server and decimal in my C# classes. An example of the problem is: Object is loaded with a property value of 14.9 A calculation is performed and the property value is changed to 14.90393 When the session is flushed, NHibernate issues an update because the property is dirty Since the database field is decimal (9,2) the stored value doesn't change Basically a phantom update is issued every time this object is loaded. I don't want to truncate the calculations in my business objects because that tightly couples them to the database and I don't want to lose the precision in other calculations. I tried setting scale and precision or CustomType("Decimal(9,2)") in the mapping file but this appears to only affect schema generation. My only reasonable option appears to be creating an IUserType implementation to handle this. Is there a better solution?

• Maven Release Plugin with JAXB issues

  Hiya, We've got a project set up to use the Maven Release Plugin which includes a phase that unpacks a JAR of XML schemas pulled from Artifactory and a phase that generates XJC classes. We're on maven release 2.2.1. Unfortunately the latter phase is executing before the former which means that it isn't generating the XJC classes for the schema. • Invoke webservice using jaxws when the wsdl has more than one service

  I'm trying to get hold of the FindService on this wsdl using jaxws. I generated the classes just fine using wsimport. But when i do: FindService findService = new FindService(); i get the exception: Exception in thread "main" javax.xml.ws.WebServiceException: {http://s.mappoint.net/mappoint-30/}FindService is not a valid service. Valid services are: {http://s.mappoint.net/mappoint-30/}CommonService So, it seems that jaxws is only finding CommonService in the wsdl which is the first one declared in it. Any idea how i can use the FindService ? Thanks.

• razor intellisense not working on VS2010 for microsoft.web.helpers

  I have VS2010 Premium,.NET4.0, MVC3 Tools Update. I've nugetted microsoft-web-helpers successfully. I cannot get @razor intellisense to recognize the microsoft.web.helpers classes. They do work correctely at runtime, i.e. @Twitter.profile shows a profile, but at design time the statent is seen as an error and no members are shown after "." I've tried to add <add assembly="System.Web.Helpers, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" /> to the <assemblies> element in web.config, but it didn't help. Any idea? thanks.

• Writing out BMP files with DataBuffer.TYPE_FLOAT or DataBuffer.TYPE_DOUBLE in java

  Hi Guys, I had a problem working with the image classes in java. I am creating a buffered image with DataBuffer.TYPE_DOUBLE. This all works fine in memory (I think). But the problem starts when I try to write it using ImageIO.write. Initially I was getting no exception at all and instead was only getting an empty output file for my troubles.. After a bit of poking around in the code, i found out that the bmp writer doesnt support writing type_double type of files. From: BMPImageWriterSpi.canEncodeImage: if (dataType < DataBuffer.TYPE_BYTE || dataType > DataBuffer.TYPE_INT) return false; So my question is, does anyone have a way of writing out those kind of images to disk? any documentation or tutorial, or link would be helpful. • Constructor in a Interface?

  I know its not possible to define a constructor in a interface. But im wondering why, because i think i could be very useful. So you could be sure that some fields in a class are defined for every implementaiton of this interface. For example consider the following message class: public class MyMessage { public MyMessage(String receiver) { this.receiver = receiver; } private String receiver; public void send() { //some implementation for sending the mssage to the receiver } } If a define a Interface for this class so that i can have more classes which implement the message interface, i can only define the send method and not the constructor. So how can i assure that every implementation of this class really has an receiver setted? If i use a method like setReceiver(String receiver) i can't be sure that this method is really called. In the constructor i could assure it.

• 503 (Server Unavailable) WebException when loading local XHTML file

  Hello! So I'm currently working on an ePub reader application, and I've been reading through a bunch of regular XML files just fine with System.Xml and XmlDocument: XmlDocument xmldoc = new XmlDocument(); xmldoc.Load(Path.Combine(Directory.GetCurrentDirectory(), "META-INF/container.xml")); XmlNodeList xnl = xmldoc.GetElementsByTagName("rootfile"); However, now I'm trying to open the XHTML files that contain the actual book text, and they're XHTML files. Now I don't really know the difference between the two, but I'm getting the following error with this code (in the same document, using the same XmlDocument and XmlNodeList variable) xmldoc.Load(Path.Combine(Directory.GetCurrentDirectory(), "OEBPS/part1.xhtml")); "WebException was unhandled: The remote server returned an error: (503) Server Unavailable" It's a local document, so I'm not understanding why it's giving this error?   I'm developing a menu. This menu, will change the background image when you click on a link, as almost all menus does. if i click in one link from the menu, this link backgroun will change the color. My jquery script is: $(function() { $('#menu ul li').click(function() { $('#menu ul li').removeClass("current_page_item"); $(this).addClass("current_page_item"); //return false; }); }); today, with the "return false" commented, when i click on the link under "#menu ul li" it changes the background open the new page and the background is reseted. For sure, if i uncomment the return false, the background works fine but then i cannot open any link. So its looks like after that i open a new page, it reset the classes. How can i make it persistent?

• How to create a container that holds different types of function pointers in C++?

  I'm doing a linear genetic programming project, where programs are bred and evolved by means of natural evolution mechanisms. Their "DNA" is basically a container (I've used arrays and vectors successfully) which contain function pointers to a set of functions available. Now, for simple problems, such as mathematical problems, I could use one type-defined function pointer which could point to functions that all return a double and all take as parameters two doubles. Unfortunately this is not very practical. I need to be able to have a container which can have different sorts of function pointers, say a function pointer to a function which takes no arguments, or a function which takes one argument, or a function which returns something, etc (you get the idea)... Is there any way to do this using any kind of container ? Could I do that using a container which contains polymorphic classes, which in their turn have various kinds of function pointers? I hope someone can direct me towards a solution because redesigning everything I've done so far is going to be painful.
