I want to use it on the webpage, but at the install window the name is MyActiveX.cab with no link. the MyActiveX.cab name can be changed by modifying the html page's tag codebase attribute. but the name is still format like "XXX.cab" with no hyperlink. • Is it possible to install IDLE on Python 2.5 and Ubuntu

  Ubuntu Software Center offers versions of IDLE numbered 2.6 and upwards. If I have to use Python 2.5 (because of Google App Engine compatibility), will it be possible to still use IDLE? I am of course assuming that the there is some necessity for the IDLE version number to be the same as the Python version number. Presently, my invocations of IDLE fail because of _tkinter not being found. Likewise it is not found when I try to do an import _tkinter interactively. I then proceeded to install Tcl and Tk and python-tk and one of the IDLE versions being offered (none were labelled 2.5) but _tkinter still does not get imported.

But the problem is : That my setup ALWAYS installs it even if my computer already has Office2007PIA. How can I configure my setup project that it will first check if Office2007PIA is installed and continue the installation of my project without installing Office2007PIA? Thanks!

• Win7: Right place to install a program that may be 'shared' with other computers

  We have an app that currently installs itself into 'program files\our app', and it puts the internal data files into the common Application Data folder. This means the program is available to any user on that particular PC. Now we want to make a multi-user version of this program, multiple PCs accessing the program at the same time across the network. In the bad old days, under XP, we'd just have the user who installed the app 'share' the app directory and off we'd go. In principle, is this still the 'right' way to do it under Vista/Windows 7? We'd like to do this 'properly' and be as compliant as possible! Is there a recommended 'Microsoft' approach for doing this, or is it largely down to whatever we can get away with and subsequently support (hah!). I've tried researching this on the MS websites but not found anything too helpful at all - it'd be really useful to have a 'if you're trying to install this kind of thing, put it here' type guide for developers!

  I have a simple Eclipse C project. Is there a way to add a "make install" target to the generated makefile? I can't seem to find the right search keywords to find any useful information in the doc or by googling (i.e. there is too much noise and no signal.) I tried creating a simple project using the autotools plug-in but without being able to find any useful doc or tutorial that starts from scratch with a single C source file, I couldn't even get the project to build. Edit: I'll take an answer based on using the autotools plug-in if I can get my project to build. I don't see how to add an include dir (-I) a link dir (-L) or additional link libs to a new Hello World autotools C project. Is there any simple autotools plug-in tutorial that covers this?

• Keeping the application state - deploy/install apk

  I'm trying to have my application minimized when paused and then when it's resumed, it should be restored to its previous state, not recreated. This works perfectly when deploying the application on a device/emulator from Eclipse. The problem occurs when I get the apk (either from bin\ or from Project - Android tools - Export signed application package) and install it on a device with a file browser (Astro): the application is destroyed when paused and then recreated. I can call moveTaskToBack(true); in my activity, yet it will still be recreated when launching it. All the discussions around this are based on achieving the opposite: closing the application when minimizing it. Is there any way of achieving what I want?

• Use deployJava.js to check for/automatically install latest JRE version for web applet

  I'd like to use the deployJava.js tool to have Java automatically detect the currently installed JRE and install an updated version if necessary. My initial impression when reading about deployJava.js was that it would do this out of the box when you simply set a version number as a function parameter for the "runApplet" function. But this has never seemed to work. Is it even possible to do this, and if so, how? • Which Subversion do I install for Windows?

I would have just downloaded the first entry but I am afraid it would break my server or something if I don't have apache. We use IIS only and I wouldn't want to break it somehow. I don't even need a web or webdav front end.   I'm trying to build a data install script that I use to setup a new webstore. This script creates the categories, pages and static blocks and default settings for the specific shop (we use a multistore setup to host the shops). In our dev/staging setup this scripts runs great and all categories are build without any problem. But on our live system this script fails. After some debugging I found the difference is in the Flat catalog usage on the live systems. The problem with creating the category with the flat tables enabled is in getting the parent path information based on the parentId given: $parentCategory = Mage::getModel('catalog/category')->load($parentId); Without flat categories enabled this gives a correct parentCategory, but with flat categories enabled it gives an empty object. Why is this behaviour with flat categories enabled?

  I just wanted to poll the community and see which plugins people are currently using to get all of these different technologies running in Eclipse. I saw this thread which mentioned Spket & WPT: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1575617/eclipse-which-plugins-for-html-javascript But I noticed that Spket doesn't seem to have been updated since October of 2009 so I'm wondering if it's still a good tool to use. I'm not sure what would be best for PHP since it seems like some of the tools are disjointed at the moment. For Actionscript I know I can just install the latest Flash Builder plugin and be done. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

• Maximum compression of a MSI install using WIX

  I used to build installs for an app with NSIS and the final self extractor was 1.2 MB. Now I need to use WIX due to operational needs and the same install comes out at 4.2 MB. I set the compressed flags as the docs and specs indicated on the package node. Using 7z to zip the MSI results in a 2.4 MB zip file. Question: How can I do a maximum compress on the MSI or create a small MSI (e.g. remove unneeded resources etc) ? Note - size is uber important and I have to use MSI/WIX now - this is a show stopper!

  I need to install a certificate on a Windows Mobile device. I have tried creating a cab file to do it, but the cab file fails to run. I have a lot of devices that are not all physically near me that I am going to need to put this on, so any manual process is just not feasible (ie, if it needs active sync then it is not going to work). Any ideas on how to do this? Visual Studio does not seem to support what I am trying to do.

• Can I install Microsoft Visual Web Developer w/o a SQL Server Express installation?

  When I attempt to install Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 Express, it forces an installation of SQL Server 2008 Express, which is okay. However, it forces it to have the instance name SQLEXPRESS instead being the default instance. I tried installing SQL Server 2008 Express first, but the Web Platform Installer 3.0 still wants to download and install the named instance, which then I have to uninstall. I'm putting together a guide that several others in my group will follow, so I'd like to not have to tell them to "install, then uninstall". So, is there any reasonable way to either (1) install VWD w/o SS, or (2) install VWD but configure SS do use the default instance?

• Is it possible to fake a Windows install for grub to add to boot menu?

  When doing a fresh install of a Linux distro (Ubuntu, for instance) on a fresh hard drive, if I want to install Linux first, and Windows later, is it possible to make grub think there's a Windows install on the first partition so that it'll be added to the boot menu after the installation is complete? To illustrate, I have a new hard drive and have created two primary partitions (both still raw) and two logical (Ext4 and Swap). I want to install Ubuntu on the Ext4 partition first, and some version of Windows on the first primary partition only after that (because I currently don't have a Windows install disk, but do have one for Ubuntu). Is it possible to make Ubuntu add an entry for Windows right now and avoid having to repair grub after I've installed Windows?

  I'm trying to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server on VirtualBox. I know this is duplicated question, however another questions have no fine answer. I'm trying to install on VirtualBox on iMac. So this is pretty legal. But the problem is I want to install with DMG image. Because installing DVD drive is too slow, and I have to install Mac OS X many times. And taking DVD disc from box is annoying too. But VirtualBox fails installing. It couldn't load kernel. It installs well with DVDs. Is there any way to do this? I'm considering using other VM solutions like Parallels or VMWare if they can support install from DMG images well. If you know about them certainly, please let me know.

  I tried to install with "grub-install" grub for guest os (which is debian) from host (centos). Tried with chroot, tried with deboostrap, tried with netinstaller. Centos is running on two raid hdd's,under LVM. Lvm volumes are created everything is formated and works. Only bootloader problem left. Netinstaller just throws me a window with error that grub can't be installed, debootstrap instructions is not clear for me in here, grub-install doesn't work in chroot, and out of chroot (grub-install /dev/mylvm/partition) Please can somebody write how to install grub for domU (guest) os from centos?

• Can I install applications to Remote Desktop Session Hosts via Group Policy?

  I have a GPO that installs an application using the Software installation policy under Computer Configuration. I assign this GPO to the OU with our desktop/laptop computers, and my clients all install the software fine. I have another separate OU that covers our new Server 2012 RD session hosts. Previously, we've manually installed applications on our one Terminal Server. Now we have one Broker and two Session Hosts. I'd like to take my existing GPO, assign it to the session hosts, and have it install on the next reboot after a gpupdate so I'm sure that each is identically configured. Given this info: Should I be able to install applications via GPO to Session Hosts? Will Group Policy automatically install the applications as if I put the session host into /install mode, or do I need to do that?

• Package management system corrupted. Cannot install or remove packages. U12.04LTS

  Having read other posts, I believe that this may be less about samba than about update system. Below is the log file of the failed installation of Samba. I have been trying without success to install/outstall samba so that I could install anything else ... I cannot either install or remove samba using either update-manager or apt-get (nor indeed Software Centre). One of the errors that I have had to correct is the presence after "removal" (failed) of /usr/share/system-config-samba directory which finally allowed itself to be deleted. That, however was then ... I have U12.04LTS. running on release 63 because I allowed the upgrade to 64 this morning which fell over - no output to monitor - obviously even less support for my graphic chip than I am suffering already (see other posts in this forum). According to my interpretation of the dpkg returned errors there may be some problem with the package files, but if this is the case then it is on servers 'main', 'nantes uni fr' and 'best fr' at the very least if not everywhere. The suggestions offered at Package operation failed and elsewhere have not worked for me. This linked post suggests that a similar error is present in other packages, or that the error is in the 'update system' I have tried ... sudo apt-get remove samba ... autoremove ... install samba ... clean ... update -f all of the above In update-manager I have tried the "reload packages list" which fails to terminate because of the error. I have tried to install and remove samba from the software centre ... :( I am at a loss ... I need help, please! Firstly to recover my apt-get/update-manager/Software Centre so that I can at least carry on with my continuing installation - up to communicating with home network hence need for samba - which brings me to my second requirement ... samba. PS is the issue about "MaxReports" associated or apart? UPDATE! Being heartily sick of restarting FF every 5 seconds I thought I'd try again with Chromium ... and got the same errors from dpkg about corrupt compressed package - coincidence? Of course this was no longer in clipboard when I got here because apport has just errored ... AAARRRGGGH!!! Why does every error clear the clipboard? • C# web cam WM_CAP_CONNECT: Want to force a capture source when multiple capture sources present.

  I am using WebCam_Capture code I found online to access through C# a web cam. On a computer with one video source it works like a charm! (Program starts up at start up, finds the webcam and it works). Though on a computer with many video sources (Say a web cam and then manycam running on top of that), the program starts and queries the user which source to use. I would love my program to start up autonomously at the restart of a machine so this waiting for user input throws a wrench in that, anyway I can force it to just select say the first found source and go with that? So i have some webcam code I yes indeed found online here: http://channel9.msdn.com/forums/TechOff/93476-Programatically-Using-A-Webcam-In-C/?CommentID=94149 and now in preparing this post I did do more research and found out that my issue lies in this line from the above code: SendMessage(mCapHwnd, WM_CAP_CONNECT, 0, 0); That is what connects the webcam up, the only issue is that the above brings up this annoying video source dialog if I have more than one source. I want it to just use the first source so that dialog doesn't come up. I tried passing in different values where the 0's are, sure enough the dialog doesn't come up but it doesn't work either. Anyone know if there is a value I can pass to the SendMessage to suspend the dialog and yet have it select the first video source it finds?

• Can't install plugins in Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo) on Ubuntu

  Eclipse Version 3.5.2 Build id: M20100211-1343 Platform: Ubuntu 10.4 I go to install any new software Eclipse plugins (e.g., pydev, subclipse), and it gets to the 60% mark and stops. I wait for a long while and nothing happens. When I hit "cancel" a security warning comes up "Warning: You are installing software that contains unsigned content.." I click "OK" but it's too late because I've cancelled the installation already. It won't pop up until I hit "cancel". I've tried moving all the windows around, that security warning is not there. In previous incarnations of Eclipse, I've been able to click "OK" on that warning (no canceling) and all is well. I've also tried two JREs (Ubuntu's default openjdk and Sun's JDK 1.6.0_20). Is there some way to get that warning to come up, or even just have it always accept unsigned content? I've downloaded the zip of pydev and unzipped it into ~/.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_3.5.0_155965261/ and Eclipse doesn't have Pydev when restarted, so manually installing plugins is also a pain. This is not my day. Yes, I see the other questions of this type and they don't seem to answer my problem.
