  • Low Graphics and laggy screen after update to 13.10 from 13.04

    After updating from 13.04 to 13.10 many of 3D unity stuff has stopped working, I am suing Samsung Series 3 (NP350V5X) Laptop which has Switchable Intel and AMD Radeon HD 7670M GFX. xserver-xorg-video-ati does works but NO 3D support and graphics are very low. [I am currently using this] fglrx & fglrx-updates shows blank screen after Login.   • How should I track approval workflow when users at every security level can create a request?

    I am writing a new application that allows users to enter requests. Once a request is entered, it must follow an approval workflow to be finally approved by a user the highest security level. So, let's say a user at Security Level 1 enters a request. This request must be approved by his superior - a user at Security Level 2. Once the Security Level 2 user approves it, it must be approved by a user at Security Level 3. Once the Security Level 3 user approves it, it is considered fully approved. However, users at any of the three Security Levels can enter requests. So, if a Security Level 3 user enters a request, it is automatically considered "fully approved". And, if a Security Level 2 user enters a request, it must only be approved by a Security Level 3 user.   • System in low graphics, deleted linux, grub rescue, can't access windows

    So I'm pretty new to Ubuntu but I managed to install it with no big problems on both my desktop and netbook. When I installed it on my brother's netbook everything went horribly wrong and now I fear the system is close to beyond repair. The problem was first that it said it did not have any space left (seemed ridiculous since it had a lot). Then Ubuntu began booting into a "System is running in low graphics mode error" which I then tried to fix, using all the tips I could find in here but nothing helped. I think the graphics error and lack of space might have been related but I can't be sure. Finally I gave up repairing Ubuntu and went for a reinstall. Shouldn't have done that! I read that I should simply open Ubuntu through a live usb and choose GParted to delete the Linux partitions so I did and rebooted accordingly. Next, I was to install Ubuntu but now I am only given the option to wipe the whole disk for Ubuntu, not install along with windows 7. If I access GParted I can still see the ntfs partitions that hold windows 7 (there are 2: one labeled RECOVERY and another labeled OS and boot) so why can't I access them? Btw. the OS and boot has a little red mark with a warning that 1 cluster is referenced to multiple times, don't know what that means. If I boot without the live usb I am sent directly into a grub rescue "black screen of the computer will follow no orders". Please, I know that the easiest might be to simply wipe the whole thing clean but there are important files and programs on windows 7. Is there a way to just access windows? It is a dell inspiron 1018 mini netbook, so I have no cd input and no windows 7 installation cd.

  • Site experiencing low traffic volume between 8AM and 4PM BST

    There may be no definitive answer to this question but I thought peer review of the problem might stimulate some ideas on the topic. We have a boutique sales site that is experiencing low volumes of traffic (both UK and international) between 8AM and 4PM BST. This seems sort of strange since our target audience for the site is UK based, and this would seem to be when people are awake and online. We are in contact with another boutique site in the same sector who don't experience this issue, so it seems kinda strange. Later on in the day we are getting traffic from the UK, as well as a fair amount of international traffic, so I'm at a loss to figure this one out. The site is fairly well optimised including:- sitemap.xml Proper caching policies across the board google merchant dublin core microdata html5 pretty urls meta and content are reviewed as an ongoing concern we have decent sitelinks for direct queries thru google on the site name a decent amount of inbound links FB, Twitter, Google +1 Google maps listing [verified] site has been selling for ~4 months and is getting ~250 users per day. So I'm not entirely sure how to explain the mid day dip in our figures.... Any ideas at all would be useful. Cheers all!

  • GMail API for a small app (Rails? Javascript? PHP?)

    I want to create an app that accesses the GMail API, but I'm finding that it isn't as simple as I thought it might be. I'm hoping somebody in the community here might have some experience working with one of these API's and could not only recommend the right solution, but also show me to some tutorials or examples that could help me get up and running. Here are some of the requirements of this app: Preferably in Rails or Javascript or even PHP. I am open to other technologies as well, but hope they'd be easy to implement. Connects to gmail via Oauth Can read who emails have been sent to and received from. Basically would like to perform some analytics on who emails are sent to, when and how frequently. I've read that one reason why this isn't easy, and why there isn't an official javascript API provided by gmail, is that google is concerned it's going to make their service less performant for their users.

  • Sitecore Item Web API and Json.Net Test Drive (Part II –Strongly Typed)

    In the earlier post I did related to this topic, I have talked about using Json.Net to consume the result of Sitecore Item Web API. In that post, I have used the keyword dynamic to express my intention of consuming the returned json of the API. In this article, I will create some useful classes to write our implementation of consuming the API using strongly-typed. We will start of with the Record class which will hold the top most elements the API will present us. Pretty straight forward class. It has 2 properties to hold the statuscode and the result elements. If you intend to use a different property name in your class from the json property, you can do so by passing a string literal of the json property name to the JsonProperty attribute and name your class property differently. If you look at the earlier post, you will notice that the API returns an array of items that contains all of the Sitecore content item or items and stores them under the result->items array element. To be able to map that array of items, we have to write a collection property and decorate that with the JsonProperty attribute. The JsonItem class is a simple class which will map to the corresponding item property contained in the array. If you notice, these properties are just the basic Sitecore fields. And here’s the main portion of this post that will binds them all together. And here’s the output of this code. In closing, the same result can be achieved using the dynamic keyword or defining classes to map the json propery returned by the Sitecore Item Web API. With a little bit more of coding, you can take advantage of power of strongly-typed solution. Have a good week ahead of you.

  • Having trouble setting up API call using array of parameters

    I am building a class to send API calls to Rapidshare and return the results of said call. Here's how I want the call to be done: $rs = new rs(); $params = array( 'sub' => 'listfiles_v1', 'type' => 'prem', 'login' => '10347455', 'password' => 'not_real_pass', 'realfolder' => '0', 'fields' => 'filename,downloads,size', ); print_r($rs->apiCall($params)); And here's the class so far: class RS { var $baseUrl = 'http://api.rapidshare.com/cgi-bin/rsapi.cgi?sub='; function apiCall($params) { $newUrl = $baseUrl; $keys = array_keys($params); $count = count($params); for($i = 0; $i < $count; $i++) { $newUrl .= $keys[$i]; $newUrl .= '&'; $newUrl .= $params[$keys[$i]]; } return $newUrl; } } Obviously i'm returning $newUrl and using print_r() to test the query string, and this is what it comes out as with the code shown above: sub&listfiles_v1type&premlogin&10347455password&_not_real_passrealfolder&0fields&filename,downloads,size When it should be: http://api.rapidshare.com/cgi-bin/rsapi.cgi?sub=listfiles_v1&type=prem&login=10347455&password=not_real_pass&realfolder=0&fields=filename,downloads,size Hopefully you can see what I'm trying to do here :P It's probably a silly mistake that I'm failing to find or a logical error. But when I make the request I get a file containing the JSON data. How do I deal with that file using javascript?   • Biztalk vs API for databroker layer

    My company is about to undergo a large project in which our client wants a large customer portal with a cms, crm implementing. This will require interaction with data from multiple sources across our customers business, these sources include XML office backend systems, sql datbases, webservices etc. Our proposed solution would be to write an API in c# to provide a common interface with all these systems. This would be scalable for future and concurrent projects within the company. Our client expressed an interest in using Biztalk rather than a custom API for this integration, as they feel it is an enterprise solution that any of their suppliers could pick up and use, and it will be better supported. We feel that the configuration work using Biztalk would be rather heavy for all their custom business rules which are required and an interface for the new application to get data to and from Biztalk would still need to be written. Are we right to prefer a custom API solution above Biztalk? Would Biztalk be suitable as a databroker layer to provide an interface for the new Customer portal we are writing. We have not experience with using Biztalk before so any input would be appreciated.

  • Google Reader API - feed/[FEEDURL]/ is coming back as Not found

    There is one feed I'm subscribed to which always turns up as NOT FOUND when I try to use the API. I return an array of Dictionaries, containing 3 objects. The first in the list represents the user himself, like so: { FeedID = "user/MY_UNIQUE_NUMBER/state/com.google/reading-list"; Timestamp = 1273448807271463; Unread = 59; } The Unread count is very important. My client depends on downloading 59 items from Google before it refreshes. If a feed doesn't download properly, the count is off and the client won't update. An example of a working Feed is here: { FeedID = "feed/http://arstechnica.com/index.rssx"; Timestamp = 1273447158484528; Unread = 13; } The FeedID value combines with a specially formatted URL string and gives back a list of articles. The above example works fine. However, the following feed always returns NOT FOUND on Google, and if I paste the URL verbatim into a browser, it never turns up. So, now I'm using the graph api to post content to a user's wall much like the way spotify does. So, now I've figured out that I need to create custom actions and objects with the open graph dashboard. So, I've created the "predict" action and gave it permission to edit the object "game." I have little problem with facebook PHP SDK..I want to like a post, or something else via facebook PHP SDK..I am doing this code, I think it should be right, but  apparently it's not working..The given error code is, the PHP SDK dont know this kind of POST request(the generated link is definitely alright). What I have seen on Facebook Developers page is about the same..There is an example of Curl command, and I the PHP SDK is doing this requests over Curl (propably). $this->getFacebook()->api("/"+$id+"/likes", 'post'); This is what I am using in my code and it's not working(Facebook API Exception unsupported post request). Maybe, I have bad syntax in my code, but, for example, when I want to post a status to my Profile, it's working..Another cause which confused me, was when I tried to fetch these data over Graph api(on the documentation page is written, I should use address like graph.facebook.com/POST_ID/likes)... You can comment on or like a post by posting to https://graph.facebook.com/POST_ID/comments and https://graph.facebook.com/POST_ID/likes,respectively: curl -F 'access_token=...' \ https://graph.facebook.com/313449204401/likes <=this is from facebook documentation And all these requests or commands(liking ones, comments have I not yet tried) are putting me back a JSON array which contents any already existing likes, but my like is nowhere. Does anyone know what to do?How to like a post from PHP..There are other SKDs like FQL, but I haven't any knowlegde with it, so I like rather to use the standard PHP SDK(but if is there some possibility how to call for example FQL from PHP SDK, here I am:)) Please help..

    I've been trying to post a paste to Pastebin in Node.js, but it appears that I'm doing it wrong. Now, I've been searching forever on possible causes. I also tried setting the encoding on the write req.write(query, 'utf8') because the Pastebin API mentions that the POST must be UTF-8 encoded. I rewrote the thing over and over and re-consulted the Node HTTP documentation many times. I'm pretty sure I completely missed something here, because I don't see how this could fail. Does anyone have an idea of what I have done wrong?

Any ideas? UPDATE: It appears using lazy loading caused the problem. When I set the associated properties to NON-VIRTUAL the Test API provided the necessary JSON string. However, whereas before I had the Vendor class included, I only have VendorId. I really wanted to included the associated classes. Any ideas? I know there are alot of smart people out there. Anyone?

    I'm consuming (via urllib/urllib2) an API that returns XML results. The API always returns the total_hit_count for my query, but only allows me to retrieve results in batches of, say, 100 or 1000. The API stipulates I need to specify a start_pos and end_pos for offsetting this, in order to walk through the results. Say the urllib request looks like "http://someservice?query='test'&start_pos=X&end_pos=Y". If I send an initial 'taster' query with lowest data transfer such as http://someservice?query='test'&start_pos=1&end_pos=1 in order to get back a result of, for conjecture, total_hits = 1234, I'd like to work out an approach to most cleanly request those 1234 results in batches of, again say, 100 or 1000 or...   • Complicated API issue with calling assemblies dynamically?

    I have an interesting challenge that I'm wondering if anyone here can give me some direction. I'm writing a .Net windows forms application that runs on a network and uses an SQL Server to save and pull data. I want to offer a mini "plugin" API, where developers can build their own assemblies and implement a specific interface (IDataManipulate). These assemblies then can be used by my application to call the interface functions and do something. I can create assemblies using my API, copy the file to a folder in my local hard drive and configure my application to use Reflection to call a specific function from the implemented interface (IDataManipulate.Execute). The problem: Since the application will be installed in multiple workstations in the network, is impossible to copy the plugin dlls the users will create to each machine. Solutions I tried: Solution 1 Copy the API dll to a network share. Problem: Requires AllowPartiallyTrustedCallersAttribute, which requires .Net singing, which I can't force from my users. Solution 2 (preferred) Serialize the dll object, save it to the database, deserialize it and call IDataManipulate.Execute. Problem: After deserialization, I try cast it to a IDataManipulate object but returns an error looking for the actual dll file. Solution 3 Save the dll bytes as byte[] to the database and recreate the dll at the local PC every time the user starts my application. Problem: Dll may have dependencies, which I don't know if I can detect. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

But few days ago I've noticed that dialog shows up, but when I select friends and try to send apprequest to them i get error: An error occurred with your app. Please try again later. API Error Code: 2 API Error Description: Service temporarily unavailable Error Message: User can't send this request: Unknown error I've checked it, and found out, that after selecting friends and clicking send dialog changes location to http://www.facebook.com/dialog/apprequest, the error occures, and than after clicking "ok" it changes location to redirect_uri. Do you have any ideas? Is this my fault or facebooks'?
