  This is my first time trying to set up capistrano to deploy a rails application. I am deploying from my local machine to my remote server that has the repo, web, app, and mysql servers all on the same machine. I am following this walk through: http://www.capify.org/index.php/From_The_Beginning I get to the command cap deploy:start Then I get this error: *** [err :: example.com] sudo: unknown user: app command finished failed: "sh -c 'cd /var/www/example/current && sudo -p '\\''sudo password: '\\'' -u app nohup script/spin'" on example.com Am I supposed to add an 'app' user, or is there a way of changing what user the command runs as? • How do I process the configure file when cross-compiling with mingw?

  I have a small open source program that builds with an autoconf configure script. I ran configure I tried to compile with: make CC="/opt/local/bin/i386-mingw32-g++" That didn't work because the configure script found include files that were not available to the mingw system. • jQuery inconsistent .remove by class on element with multiple classes

  I've got a page where messages and associated elements (responses, forwards, etc) all share a class based on the database id of the parent. For example this is a message this is another message this is a comment this is another comment tim posted a new message sara forwarded a message to john at times I need to remove all elements with the same id, so I originally had jQuery('div#'+id).remove(); but that would sometimes not remove all the ids because ids are supposed to be unique. So I added the id as a class. now I use jQuery('div.'+id).remove(); but this seems to be about 80% effective, and sometimes the divs aren't being removed. I'm not sure if the issue is because the div has more than one class, but I need the classes because that is how I refer to the elements when somebody clicks. For instance, jQuery('div.message').click(function(){ get the id, send it to the server and get the message }); is there something wrong I'm doing here? or is there a better way to do this?

  I have a pair of shell programs that talk over a named pipe. The reader creates the pipe when it starts, and removes it when it exits. Sometimes, the writer will attempt to write to the pipe between the time that the reader stops reading and the time that it removes the pipe. reader: while condition; do read data <$PIPE; do_stuff; done writer: echo $data >>$PIPE reader: rm $PIPE when this happens, the writer will hang forever trying to open the pipe for writing. Is there a clean way to give it a timeout, so that it won't stay hung until killed manually? I know I can do #!/bin/sh # timed_write <timeout> <file> <args> # like "echo <args> >> <file>" with a timeout TIMEOUT=$1 shift; FILENAME=$1 shift; PID=$$ (X=0; # don't do "sleep $TIMEOUT", the "kill %1" doesn't kill the sleep while [ "$X" -lt "$TIMEOUT" ]; do sleep 1; X=$(expr $X + 1); done; kill $PID) & echo "$@" >>$FILENAME kill %1 but this is kind of icky. • Cygwin Cruisecontrol cannot execute commands

  I'm having what I hope to be a simple problem. However, it's had me stumped all day. I'm working with cruisecontrol in windows, being set up through Cygwin. I have some CC experience in the linux platform and much of what I'm doing is very similar. However, most any command I try to execute in the config.xml file's Schedule section is giving an error. Here's the exception: ExecBuilder - Could not execute command: /cygdrive/d/Program\ Files/Subversion/bin/svn net.sourceforge.cruisecontrol.CruiseControlException: Encountered an IO exception while attempting to execute 'net.sourceforge.cruisecontrol.builders.ExecScript@b80f1c'. CruiseControl cannot continue. at net.sourceforge.cruisecontrol.builders.ScriptRunner.runScript(ScriptRunner.java:133) Here are some examples of commands I've tried to run which give this type of error. <exec command="${CCLoc}/projects/${project.name}/IOSdllScript"/> -Runs a script that I tested outside of the cruisecontrol.bat and it runs. Includes #!/bin/sh as the first line <exec command="${CCLoc}/projects/${project.name}/EmptyFile"/> -Essentially an empty text file, proving that the problem had nothing to do with my script. <exec command="/cygdrive/d/Program\ Files/Subversion/bin/svn" args="cleanup" workingdir="${svndir}"/> -Trys svn cleanup on a directory. I double checked the pathing and spelling. One command that I tested worked and didn't give this error. That command was touch. <exec command="touch" args="ABC.txt"/> I'm not sure why only touch seems to work and nothing else does. Thank you for your help.

• Safe way to set computed environment variables

  I have a bash script that I am modifying to accept key=value pairs from stdin. (It is spawned by xinetd.) How can I safely convert those key=value pairs into environment variables for subprocesses? I plan to only allow keys that begin with a predefined prefix "CMK_", to avoid IFS or any other "dangerous" variable getting set. But the simplistic approach function import () { local IFS="=" while read key val; do case "$key" in CMK_*) eval "$key=$val";; esac done } is horribly insecure because $val could contain all sorts of nasty stuff. This seems like it would work: shopt -s extglob function import () { NORMAL_IFS="$IFS" local IFS="=" while read key val; do case "$key" in CMK_*([a-zA-Z_]) ) IFS="$NORMAL_IFS" eval $key='$val' IFS="=" ;; esac done } but (1) it uses the funky extglob thing that I've never used before, and (2) it's complicated enough that I can't be comfortable that it's secure. My goal, to be specific, is to allow key=value settings to pass through the bash script into the environment of called processes. It is up to the subprocesses to deal with potentially hostile values getting set. I am modifying someone else's script, so I don't want to just convert it to Perl and be done with it. I would also rather not change it around to invoke the subprocesses differently, something like #!/bin/sh ...start of script... perl -nle '($k,$v)=split(/=/,$_,2); $ENV{$k}=$v if $k =~ /^CMK_/; END { exec("subprocess") }' ...end of script...

• Figure out if element is present in multi-dimensional array in python

  I am parsing a log containing nicknames and hostnames. I want to end up with an array that contains the hostname and the latest used nickname. I have the following code, which only creates a list over the hostnames: hostnames = [] # while(parsing): # nick = nick_on_current_line # host = host_on_current_line if host in hostnames: # Hostname is already present. pass else: # Hostname is not present hostnames.append(host) print hostnames # ['[email protected]', '[email protected]', '[email protected]'] I thought it would be nice to end up with something along the lines of the following: # [['[email protected]', 'John'], ['[email protected]', 'Mary'], ['[email protected]', 'Joe']] My problem is finding out if the hostname is present in such a list hostnames = [] # while(parsing): # nick = nick_on_current_line # host = host_on_current_line if host in hostnames[0]: # This doesn't work. # Hostname is already present. # Somehow check if the nick stored together # with the hostname is the latest one else: # Hostname is not present hostnames.append([host, nick]) Are there any easy fix to this, or should I try a different approach? I could always have an array with objects or structs (if there is such a thing in python), but I would prefer a solution to my array problem.

• Alternate widgets and logic for ManyToManyField with Django forms

  In my Django project, I have a simple ticket system. When creating a ticket, certain users have the ability to assign the ticket to other users, and to email the ticket to other users as well (this is used as an FYI for those users, so they're aware of the ticket, even though it's not assigned to them.) At the moment, the form for adding a ticket is simply the default Django form, with the "assigned_to" and "email_to" fields being ManyToManyFields, and therefore displayed as MultipleSelect widgets, each with a list of all users. Due to the relatively large number of users, and general awkwardness of the MultipleSelect widget, and alternate layout is now required. The desired layout is a pair of simple Select widgets side-by-side. The first has the option of "Assign to" or "Email to" and the second is a list of the users. Essentially, like this: [Assign to] [John Doe] [Email to] [Jane Roe] [Jack Smith], etc. Of course, since an arbitrary number of users can be assigned or emailed a ticket, there's a simple button that runs some Javascript to add another set of widgets, to allow the user to assign and email as many people as they need to. So far all of that is fairly simple and straight forward. However, the problem I have is using this widget setup/logic setup with Django forms. Instead of lists of users to assign to and email, instead we're getting back pairs of information, one a user and the other which list that user should be placed in. What I'm looking for, but have yet to find, is a way to offload the translation between how the user uses the form, and how Django understands the model to the form itself, so I don't have to manually do the processing of the data before passing it to the form in each place this form is used. Additionally, there's a review screen with the option to go back and change the form before submitting it, so a way to have the form translate both to and from this format would be extremely helpful.

For this example I need to get Role = manager. Any advice or reference link is highly appreciated.

  Not sure how to go about this... But, I have two arrays, one with updated information, another with outdated information... There are a lot more elements in the second array, but I'm looking to "update" the outdated one with the updated information.   I'm trying to select and de-select dates on a C# Web Calendar control. The problem I have is that I can select or deselect dates except when there is only a single date selected. Clicking on it does not trigger the selection changed event, so Ineed to do something on the dayrender event but I'm not sure what or how. Edit: Added the Pre_Render event code. This seems to work now, however it seems a little bit erratic,e.g. select date A : OK Select date B :OK deselect them both: OK select date A: Does not work, need to select it twice deselect date A : Ok Select Date C: dates A and c are selected @John Yes, I am aware that the control is part of the .NET 2.0 framework and nothing to do with C# per se. • How to query JDO persistent objects in unowned relationship model?

  Hello, I'm trying to migrate my app from PHP and RDBMS (MySQL) to Google App Engine and have a hard time figuring out data model and relationships in JDO. In my current app I use a lot of JOIN queries like: SELECT users.name, comments.comment FROM users, comments WHERE users.user_id = comments.user_id AND users.email = '[email protected]' As I understand, JOIN queries are not supported in this way so the only(?) way to store data is using unowned relationships and "foreign" keys. There is a documentation regarding that, but no useful examples.   I have been bothered for so long by the MySQL injections and was thinking of a way to eliminate this problem all together. I have came up with something below hope that many people will find this useful. The only Draw back I can think of this is the partial search: Jo =returns "John" by using the like %% statement. • Making Javascript and HTML5 games

  A long time ago (Netscape 4-era), I wrote Javascript-based games: Pong, Minesweeper, and John Conway's Life among them. I'm getting back into it, and want to get my hands even dirtier. I have a few games in mind: Axis & Allies clone, with rugged maps and complex rules. Tetris clone, possibly with real-time player-vs-player or player-vs-computer mode Breakout clone, with a couple weapons and particle velocities In all of these, I have only a few objectives: Use JavaScript and HTML 5 - it should run on Chrome, Safari, or maybe an iPad. Start small and simple, then build-up features. Learn something new about game design and implementation. So my questions are: How would you implement these games? Do you have any technology recommendations? If you've written these games, what was the hardest part? N.B. I also want to start from first-principles - if you recommend a framework/library, I would appreciate some theory or implementation details behind it. These games are different enough that I should learn something new from each one.

• Intellisense on custom types in Iron Python

  Hi everybody, I'm just starting to play around with IronPython and am having a hard time using it with custom types created in C#. I can get IronPython to load in assemblies from C# classes, but I'm struggling without the help of intellisense. If I have a class in C# as defined below, how can I make it so that IronPython will be able to see the methods/properties that are available in it? public class Person { public string Name { get; set; } public int Age{ get; set; } public double Weight{ get; set; } public double Height { get; set; } public double CalculateBMI() { return Weight/Math.Pow(Height, 2); } } In Iron python I'd instance a Person object as follows: newPerson = Person() newPerson.Name = 'John' newPerson.Age = 25 newPerson.Weight = 75 newPerson.Height = 1.70 newPerson.CalculateBMI() The thing that is annoying me is that I want to be able to say newPerson = Person() And then be able to see all the methods and properties associated with the person object whenever I type: newPerson. Anyone have any ideas if this can be done?

• Zoom image to pixel level

  For an art project, one of the things I'll be doing is zooming in on an image to a particular pixel. I've been rubbing my chin and would love some advice on how to proceed. Here are the input parameters: Screen: sw - screen width sh - screen height Image: iw - image width ih - image height Pixel: px - x position of pixel in image py - y position of pixel in image Zoom: zf - zoom factor (0.0 to 1.0) Background colour: bc - background colour to use when screen and image aspect ratios are different Outputs: The zoomed image (no anti-aliasing) The screen position/dimensions of the pixel we are zooming to. When zf is 0 the image must fit the screen with correct aspect ratio. When zf is 1 the selected pixel fits the screen with correct aspect ratio. One idea I had was to use something like povray and move the camera towards a big image texture or some library (e.g. pygame) to do the zooming. Anyone think of something more clever with simple pseudo code? To keep it more simple you can make the image and screen have the same aspect ratio. I can live with that. I'll update with more info as its required.
