• SharePoint 2010 PowerShell Script to Find All SPShellAdmins with Database Name

  Problem     Yesterday on Twitter my friend @cacallahan asked for some help on how she could get all SharePoint 2010 SPShellAdmin users and the associated database name.  I spent a few minutes and wrote up a script that gets this information and decided I’d post it here for others to enjoy.     Background     The Get-SPShellAdmin commandlet returns a listing of SPShellAdmins for the given database Id you pass in, or the farm configuration database by default.  For those unfamiliar, SPShellAdmin access is necessary for non-admin users to run PowerShell commands against a SharePoint 2010 farm (content and configuration databases specifically).  Click here to read an excellent guest post article my friend John Ferringer (twitter) wrote on the Hey Scripting Guy! blog regarding granting SPShellAdmin access.  Solution     Below is the script I wrote (formatted for space and to include comments) to provide the information needed. • Brother MFC-J470DW scan function "Check Connection"

  I have a Brother MFC-J470DW printer that I have connected to a Linux desktop (running Ubuntu 14.04) using a wireless router network. The printer works fine for printing and copying, but now I want to add the scan function. To set up the scan function, I went to the Brother web page for this printer: http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=eu_ot&lang=en&prod=mfcj470dw_us_eu_as&os=128 and under Scanner Drivers selected "Scanner driver 64bit (deb package)", "Scan-key-tool 64bit (deb package)", and "Scanner Setting file (deb package)". For each package, I clicked the EULA, and selected "open with Ubuntu Software Center". Then after the USC window pops up, I click on Install and the red line goes from left to right. In each case, the USC window then had a green checkmark and the Install box changes to Reinstall (that's how you know it worked). So now I try it out. Hitting the Scan button on the printer, selecting "Scan to file", and hitting ok produces the message "Check Connection". I checked the Brother Linux Information FAQ (scanner) page and the 14th question seems the same as mine: When I try to use the scan key on my network connected machine, I receive the error "Check connection" or I can not select anything except "scan to FTP". I explored the solution given for this FAQ, but found from ifconfig that I am already using eth0, the default setting, so presumably that is not the problem. I also found brscan-skey installed in /usr/bin and did drrm@drrmlinux2:~$ brscan-skey -t drrm@drrmlinux2:~$ brscan-skey but that didn't help - I still get the "Check connection" message. What can you suggest to fix this problem?

• Multiple sites with the same codebase in Python

  I am trying to run a large amount of sites which share about 90% of their code. They are simply designed to query an API and return the results. They will have a common userbase / database but will be configured slightly different and will have different CSS (perhaps even different templating). My initial idea was to run them as separate applications with a common library but I have read about the sites framework which would allow them to run from a single instance of Django which may help to reduce memory usage. https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/sites/ Is the site framework the right approach to a problem like this, and does it have real benefits over running separate applications? Initially I thought it was, but now I think otherwise. I have heard the following: Your SITE_ID is set in settings.py, so in order to have multiple sites, you need multiple settings.py configurations, which means multiple distinct processes/instances. You can of course share the code base between them, but each site will need a dedicated worker / WSGIDaemon to serve the site. This effectively removes any benefit of running multiple sites under one hood, if each site needs a UWSGI instance running. Alternative ideas of systems: https://github.com/iivvoo/django_layers https://github.com/shestera/django-multisite I don't know what route to be taking with this.

• XNA Skinned Animated Mesh Rendering Exported from Maya

  I am working on translating an old RTS game engine I wrote from DirectX9 to XNA. My old models didn't have animation & are an old format, so I'm trying with an FBX file. I temporarily "borrowed" a model from League of Legends just to test if my rendering is working correctly. I imported the mesh/bones/skin/animation into Maya 2012 using an "unnamed" 3rd-party import tool. (obviously I'll have to get legit models later, but I just want to test if my programming is correct). Everything looks correct in maya and it renders the animations flawlessly. I exported everything into a single FBX file (with only a single animation). I then tried to load this model using the example at the following site: http://create.msdn.com/en-US/education/catalog/sample/skinned_model With my exported FBX, the animation looks correct for most of the frames, however at random times it screws up for a split second. Basically, the body/arms/head will look right, but the leg/foot will shoot out to a random point in space for a second & then go back to the normal position. The original FBX from the sample looks correct in my program. It seems odd that my model was imported into maya wrong, since it displays fine in Maya. So, I'm thinking either I'm exporting it wrong, or the sample code is bad & the model from the sample caters to the samples bad code. I'm new to 3D programming & maya, so chances are I'm doing something wrong in the export. I'm using mostly the defaults, but I've tried all 3 interpolation modes (quaternion, euler, resample). • Static IP configuration causing apt-get errors

  I am getting errors when running apt-get update or when installing new packages. Although this only happens when the server configured for a static IP address. Changing the configuration back to DHCP and restarting networking fixes the problem, although I want a static IP. Once it is working I can change back to my static IP address and restart networking. Although this only works until I restart the server (restarting the router is ok), and then I start getting the same errors and have to switch back to DHCP. Any ideas on what could be causing this or tips on troubleshooting it?   According to the FAQ's I am not sure if my question is a ok to ask or will be closed or should I post it in the meta or even I would blame some one for downvoting it. However it is one that has been bugging me since the trouble strated. Let me explain. I have this Web Site. On the site you can see that I had to actually remove the above from here, here, and here while left it here, here, here and here. This is so because the the web site "refuses" to load at all with the pages that have the code (i.e., from this region.) If I use Firefox Stealthy Plugin and open the site in Firefox, It works like a charm without any problems. But with Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Opera Web browser, the site does not load/open at all because of the Google translate. (I know this because If I remove the Google Translate Code, the site works/loads fine) It was one thing to program for "cross browser compatability" and alltogether another to program for "cross region compatability". What can I do to make sure that the site works from anywhere? Do I completely remove the Google Translate code and just have to do without the additional functionality or Do I look for alternatives like this or according to this?

  As more and more companies start to incorporate a Service Oriented Architectural design approach into their existing enterprise systems, it creates the need for a standardized integration technology. One common technology used by companies is an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). An ESB, as defined by Progress Software, connects and mediates all communications and interactions between services. In essence an ESB is a form of middleware that allows services to communicate with one another regardless of framework, environment, or location. With the emergence of ESB, a new emphasis is now being placed on approaches that can be used to determine what Web services should be built. In addition, what order should these services be built? In May 2011, SOA Magazine published an article that identified 10 common methods for identifying and defining services. SOA’s Ten Common Methods for Service Identification and Definition: Business Process Decomposition Business Functions Business Entity Objects Ownership and Responsibility Goal-Driven Component-Based Existing Supply (Bottom-Up) Front-Office Application Usage Analysis Infrastructure Non-Functional Requirements  Each of these methods provides various pros and cons in regards to their use within the design process. I personally feel that during a design process, multiple methodologies should be used in order to accurately define a design for a system or enterprise system. Personally, I like to create a custom cocktail derived from combining these methodologies in order to ensure that my design fits with the project’s and business’s needs while still following development standards and guidelines.   We are currently in the process of upgrading one of our applications to .Net 4.0. Aside from us geeks wanting to always use latest and greatest technologies, an immediate business need for Silverlight 4.0 features justified our upgrade endeavor. The following is a summary of some issues we ran into with our web project:   For security purposes, the IIS 7 .Net 4.0 ISAPI filter is disabled. “Allow” it from the ISAPI and CGI Restrictions screen as shown:   Figure 1 - Allowing ASP.Net 4.0 ISAPI Filter   By default the Web Setup Project only requires the .Net Framework 4 Client Profile to be installed on target system, which offers a lighter weight install for client machines consuming .Net 4.0 applications. • why the difference in google search result using script for search and using a browser for search

  I wrote a code to find the position in google search result for a search keyword. I also did the same with the browser. Both the results are different. Let me explain in detail here. I have a website and i wanted to know on which page number my domain appears for a search string. Like when i search for 'code snippets' i wanted to find in google search on which page number a certain domain appears. I wrote a php code to search page by page starting from page 1 to page n. I did the same task using a browser. The script returned page 4 and when browsed i can see the domain appearing in second page. here is the search string i use in my code. /search?hl=en&output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=code+snippets&start=0&btnG= and for each request i change the start=0 to start=1, start=2, etc... and in the response i will check whether my domain appears in it. any idea for this different in search results?
