  Hi, I have a requirement to work on a VS2003 web project. I have VS2008,vs2010,vs2003 installed in my system Other System details are Windows Xp professional version 2 service pack 3. IIS 5.1 When i am trying to create a VS 2003 web project giving the localhost as path i am getting the following error. "visual studio noted that specified web server is not running under asp .net 1.1 version.You will be unable to run asp .net web applications or services". I have used aspnet_regiis commands as well as a tool(ASPNETVersionSwitcher.exe ) to swith versions and in iis also default web site asp.net version chosen as asp .net 1.14322. Still i am getting the error. same error i get ,if i point a virtual directory in the existing 1.1 .net web application and trying to open it. Please advise since i have to work on this project as soon as possible. Thanks SNA

• Windows SBS 2003 Remote Desktop Problem

  Hi, I used to remote access the SBS 2003 server through RDC and it has been working all the time but now I am unable to connect to the server. Whenever I pressed the "Connect" button on the Remote Desktop Connection dialog, a dialog with messages like "Connecting to: xx.xx.xx.xx" and "Configuring remote session..." appeared and then disappeared quickly, leaving the Remote Desktop Connection dialog there. How to fix the problem? Is the any way to reinstall the Remote Desktop on the server. Thank you.

• Windows Server 2003 Hacked - Files Being Uploaded

  Blank directories are being created on my Windows Server 2003 virtual server with sub directories that are weird (for example: "88ÿ ÿ ÿÿþþ þþ13þ"). It looks like they are uploading bootlegged DVDs and pirated software. All of my bandwidth and file space is being eaten up. Could this be a shared permissions issue? Where should I look to further investigate this? My security permissions for the directory that is being hit are as followed: Administrators - ALL GRANTED IIS_WPG - Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read Internet Guest - DENY SYSTEM - ALL GRANTED Users - Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read My Event Viewer is showing many Logon/Logoff with NO IP?

  Hi, I am trying to update a replica list on a Exchange 2003 public folder. I am using the WMI namespace exchange_publicfolder to try and add an Exchange server (using the servers DN) to the AddReplica procedure. Every time I run this I get an invalid parameter as an exception. Below is the code that I am using to do this.   Hi, I am trying to execute a SSIS 2008 package on a 64-bit OS and import Excel 2003 files to SQL Server 2008. I have created an OLEDB Connection to the Excel file with a Connection String that retrieves the Excel file from a variable, inside the ForEach Loop Container. The Run64BitRunTime is set to false. I am not able to edit the SQL Command on the OLEDB Source in the Data Flow task. It returns an error : Error 2 Validation error. Load List Staged Table: Load List Staged Table: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER. The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "List OLEDB to Excel" failed with error code 0xC0202009. There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the AcquireConnection method call failed. 0 0 Appreciate any help.

  I have build a webapplication using ASP.NET MVC and JQuery. On my local machine this works fine,but when moving it to a Windows server 2003 the JQuery method post stops working. • Fatal Error when using ADODB in VB6 on Windows Server 2003 SP2

  We've got a legacy app (VB6) which works fine on an old Windows Server 2003 box and has been for many years. Recently we've had to move it to a different physical location and in doing this we cloned the box with virtualisation and placed it elsewhere. In theory these two environments should be identical. On the new box however the app falls over when calling the RecordCount method of an ADODB.Recordset. I should say that I can successfully read the ADODB.RecordSet.Properties.Count property with no problem on the line before. The event viewer reports the following: Event Type: Error Event Source: Application Error Event Category: (100) Event ID: 1000 Date: 28/09/2012 Time: 11:15:27 User: N/A Computer: APP01 Description: Faulting application Control.exe, version 1.0.0.6, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.4789, fault address 0x0002c6e4. I can only imagine there is something wrong with using ADODB within a virtualised environment. Any ideas?

• More memory usage for IIS 6 asp.net 2.0 on webserver 2003

  Running a webserver 2003 SP2 (x86) with IIS 6 and asp.net 2. The box is running mostly dynamic asp pages connecting to a sql 2008 server. At any given time there is over 1 gig of memory available out of the 2 gig in the box. It seems like there would be a way for it to make better use of the free memory. It is using a default machine.config file and default http.sys. I would like to maximize incoming internet connections and database connections. Is there something I can do to make better use of the available memory?

  I have a website that is using Windows Server 2003. The site is called https://mysite.com/ and at ip address 111.1.1.1. Now when I log into the site all my relative links that are generated using NavURL (<%# NavURL("Images/Menu/img.gif")%) are saying "http://111.1.1.1/Images/Menu/img.gif" instead of "https://mysite.com/Images/Menu/img.gif". This is causing an error because it needs to be secure. I'm sure there is a setting on the server somewhere to point to the name and not the ip, but I don't know where. Thanks for your help.

  good afternoon everyone :) I got sucha dilemma! (hate being new at stuff!) What my problem is is that I have a project that is in full design mode swing right now. I built it using the Windows form.. Anyways, on one of my forms..that I already started building (very painstakingly).. Minds have changed and now what needs to be on that form is either a full excel 2003 workbook..or at the very least..excel worksheet. The problem is that I have not been using studio 2008 for long..and coding experience shows the same. Can someone please tell me how the heck I can put a worksheet or a workbook on that form without starting my whole project over using office forms? Please..go slow with this newbie cuz i really dont know anything and Jargon is confusing me even more :( thanxxXXX :)

• Give Access to a Subdirectory Without Giving Access to Parent Directories

  I have a scenario involving a Windows file server where the "owner" wants to dole out permissions to a group of users of the following sort: \\server\dir1\dir2\dir3: Read & Execute and Write \\server\dir1\dir2: No permissions. \\server\dir1: No permissions. \\server: Read & Execute To my understanding, it is not possible to do this because Read & Execute permission must be granted to all the parent directories in a directory chain in order for the operating system to be able to "see" the child directories and get to them. Without this permission, you can't even obtain the security context token when trying to access the nested directory, even if you have full access to the subdirectory. We are looking for ways to get around this, without moving the data from \\server\dir1\dir2\dir3 to \\server\dir4. One workaround I thought of, but which I am not sure if it will work, is creating some sort of link or junction \\server\dir4 which is a reference to \\server\dir1\dir2\dir3. I am not sure which of the available options (if any) would work for this purpose if the user does not have Read & Execute permission on \\server\dir1\dir2 or \\server\dir1, but as far as I know, the options are these: NTFS Symbolic Link, Junction, Hard Link. So the questions: Are any of these methods suitable to accomplish my goal? Are there any other methods of linking or indirectly referencing a directory, which I haven't listed above, which might be suitable? Are there any direct solutions that don't involve granting Read & Execute to \\server\dir1 or \\server\dir2 but still allowing access to \\server\dir1\dir2\dir3?

• Random DNS Client Issue with BIND9/Windows Server 2003 DNS

  Within our office, we have a local server running DNS, for internal related "domains", (e.g. .internal, .office, .lan, .vpn, etc.). Randomly, only the hosts configured with those extensions will stop resolving on the Windows-based workstations. Sometimes it'll work for a couple weeks without issue on one machine, then suddenly stop working, or it'll happen on another 15 times per day. It's completely random for all workstations. When troubleshooting, I have opened up a command prompt, and issued various nslookup commands for some of these hosts, and they resolve, however I've been told that nslookup uses different "libraries" for name resolution than other applications such as web browsers, email clients, etc. The only solution thus far, is manually restarting the Windows DNS Client on each workstation when this happens. Issuing the ipconfig /flushdns command multiple times helps every now and then, but is not successful enough to even attempt before restarting the DNS Client. I have tried two different DNS servers; BIND9, and Windows Server 2003 R2 DNS, and the behavior is the same. We have a single Netgear JGS524 switch all workstations and servers are connected to within the office, and a Linksys SR224G switch in another department with workstations attached.

• Deploying an MVC 2.0 .Net 4.0 application to Windows Server 2003

  I've spent the past couple of nights on this, and have come to the conclusions that I'm doing something wrong! Basically, I have my .Net 4.0 MVC 2.0 application deployed to my 2003 Server and it's constantly giving me the following error: The value for the 'compilerVersion' attribute in the provider options must be 'v4.0' or later if you are compiling for version 4.0 or later of the .NET Framework. To compile this Web application for version 3.5 or earlier of the .NET Framework, remove the 'targetFramework' attribute from the element of the Web.config file. I also have the .Net 3.5 MVC 1.0 application also deployed to the same server (from before the upgrade to .Net 4.0), and it works absolutely fine. I have re-run through Phil Haack's post on IIS6, making the necessary changes for .Net 4.0, but no luck. I have been through the steps in the British Developer's post too, but no joy. I have also tried the steps outlined in Johan's blog post, but the settings he mentions were already enabled. Obviously, I can't simply upgrade to a 2008 box, nor do I want to downgrade my software back to < 4.0 - any other ideas?

The UDF is a slow operation as its results are fetched from a server. As an illustration(not a real world example),the following UDF works fine without any issue: public double mul(double number1, double number2) { return number1 * number2; } How can I do the same functionality in an async way: For example, I would like the UDF return immediately and later when the results are available from a server, I would like to update the desired cells. // This method returns immediately. public object mul(double number1, double number2) { return "calculating"; } // This method of a worker thread will update the results. public OnResultsAvailable(object result) { // Question: how should I update the cells that triggerred the calcualtions above? } Constraints: I cannot use Excel RTD as I have to work with existing codebase written using Excel C# COM Add-in. • Giving writing permissions for IIS user at Windows 2003 Server

  I am running a website over Windows 2003 Server and IIS6 and I am having problems to write or delete files in some temporary folder obtaining this kind of warmings: Warning: unlink(C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\cakephp\app\tmp\cache\persistent\myapp_cake_core_cake_): Permission denied in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\cakephp\lib\Cake\Cache\Engine\FileEngine.php on line 254 I went to the tmp directory and at the properties I gave the IIS User the following permissions: Read & Execute List folder Contents Read And it still showing the same warnings. When I am on the properties window, if I click on Advanced the IIS username appears twice. One with Allow type and read & execute permissions and the other with Deny type and Special permissions. My question is: Should I give this user not only the Read & Execute permissions but also this ones?: Create Attributes Create Files/ Write Data Create Folders/ Append Data Delete Subfolders and Files Delete They are available to select if I Click on the edit button over the username. Wouldn't I be opening a security hole if I do this? Otherwise, how can I do to read and delete the files my website uses? Thanks.

• Executing a process in windows server 2003 and ii6 from code - permissions error

  I have a problem executing a process from our testing server. On my localhost using windows XP and iis5.1 I changed the machine.config file to have the line - I then changed the login for iis to log on as local system account and allow server to interact with desktop. This fixed my problem executing a process from code in xp. When using the same method on windows server 2003 (using iis6 isolation mode) the process does not get executed. • HTML5 Drag and Drop styles not displaying on Windows Server 2003

  I'm working on a file upload utility based on Valum's Ajax-Uploader. The idea is similar to the Gmail attachment process. The user should be able to drag a file from the desktop into the browser window and onto the file upload area to get it to upload. This works fine in the browsers that support this functionality (Firefox 3.6+, Chrome 7+). The problem I'm running into are the styles that should be re-drawn when the user: Drags the file anywhere in the browser Drags the file into the upload area I have tested in the exact same browser versions on WinXP, Vista, and Win7. The appropriate styles are redrawn. However, in Windows Server 2003, they do not. In Win2003, when I inspect the div that should be redrawn via Firebug, the "drop-area" and "drop-area-active" classes are applied correctly. Firebug even shows the correct style declarations, but the changes are never visible. The only difference between FF and Chrome that I'm able to spot is that in Chrome, the "drop-area-active" style is displayed for a split second when the user drops the file. I'm not positive that it is a Windows2003 issue, but that's the only OS in which I'm able to recreate the bug.

• MS Access 2003: Can data disappear from records and how do I test for this and prevent it?

  Problem and about the database: Data from a record in Access 2003 database has disappeared. This database has 1 backend and 3 frontends, multiple users and is hosted on Citrix. Within this database, we have records of all clients served, ranging in the 1000s. Background info: The form for client data entry is set up with various subforms, including both a "programs enrolled" subform and a "services" subform. A client can be enrolled in multiple programs. Once enrolled in a program, services can be entered for that program area using the services subform. There are multiple fields in the services subform, one of which is a drop-down field allowing you to choose from the programs a client has been enrolled in (the list is updated for that client whenever he is enrolled in a new program). The problem details: For one specific record and one specific program area, the program has disappeared from the "programs enrolled" subform and all of the related services have disappeared from the "services" subform for a period of 3 months of data entry. However, other programs and services for this record did not disappear. Questions: Is the disappearance of data a common Access 2003 problem? Are there tests in place that can be run to see if data is disappearing and catch that data? If so, what are they? If there is specific code involved, what is it? What can be done to prevent the disappearing of data (other than using a different database)?

• MS Query returns data inside itself but does not export it to Excel

  Hi, I'm having a strange problem with Excel and MS Query: I'm using MS Query to run a T-SQL query against a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and return the results to Excel. To do this, I open Excel, go to Data - Import external data - New database query, select my data source, paste the SQL script in MS Query and click File - Return data to Microsoft Office Excel, leaving all the query options to their defaults. This works fine for many other Excel files, but this time although MS Query shows the correct data when I paste the SQL script, after returning to Excel all I get is the query name in the upper left cell, with no data returned. I fear the cause could be the SQL script, as it contains some advanced functions like union all, UDFs and variables. Here's the script: declare @date smalldatetime set @date = dateadd(day, datediff(day, 0, getdate()), 0) select [date], sum([hours]) as [hours] from ( select [date], [hours] from [server].[dbo].[udf] (84, '2010-01-01', @date) union all select [date], [hours] from [server].[dbo].[udf] (89, '2010-01-01', @date) union all select [date], [hours] from [server].[dbo].[udf] (93, '2010-01-01', @date) ) as [a] group by [date] order by [date] asc I can't get rid of the UDF as inside them are done advanced groupings involving cursors and temporary tables, nor I can remove the variable as the UDF won't accept dateadd(day, datediff(day, 0, getdate()), 0) as parameter. • What *is* an IPM.DistList?

  I'm trying to get the recipient addresses within an IPM.DistList that is stored in a public folder (of type contacts) in Exchange 2003. The typeName of the object (once I get hold of it) is a Message (with a parent object being a Messages collection) and the messageType is "IPM.DistList". I can find all sorts of things about IPM.DistListItems, which you would think an IPM.DistList would contain, but there apparently isn't any documentation on the DistList (that I can find) and DistListItems documentation lists no parent possibilities in MSDN. I'll state it another way in case I've left you confused: We have an Exchange 2003 info store with Public Folders. Within those Public Folders is a [sub]folder (that holds items of type "Contact") that has a bunch of distribution lists (IPM.DistList's) that have contact entries, members of the list essentially. I need to get the addresses of the members of the lists in the Public Folder sub-folder using any VB language, because the company I work for hired me as a VB guy and expects me to write VB solutions, even though I could do it in C++... alas, I digress. VB is the language I'm supposed to figure this out in. (.net, script, vba, vb6, it doesn't matter which one. Yes, I know vb.net is not really related to those that came before, but they don't know that.) Anyone ran into anything like this? Am I just not finding the IPM.DistList documentation but it does actually exist somewhere? This isn't a Message.MAPIOBJECT (iUnknown) problem is it? Thanks.... Jeremy

  Are you new to the ribbon interface in Office 2010?  Here’s how you can get up to speed and learn where everything is quickly and easily. Microsoft has made an interactive guide to Office 2010’s new interface to help users learn their way around the new version.  If you’ve already used Office 2007, then Office 2010 will be very easy to transition to, but if you’re still using Office 2003 you may find the learning curve more steep.  With this interactive guide, upgrading your Office skills doesn’t have to be hard. Learn Your Way Around the Office Ribbon Open the Office 2010 interactive guides site (link below) in your browser, and select the Office app you want to explore. The guides are powered by Silverlight, so if you don’t already have it installed you will be prompted to do so. Once the guide has loaded, click Start to begin. Select any menu or toolbar item in the Office 2003 mockup.  A tooltip will appear to show you how to find this option in Word 2010. If you click the item, the interface will switch to an Office 2010 mockup and will interactively show you how to access this feature.  The Thumbnails view isn’t available by default in Word 2010, so it shows us how to add it to the ribbon.  When you’ve figured this command out, click anywhere to go back to the Office 2003 mockup and find another item.
