• what's the UNC path for local computer from a remote machine ?

- by KaluSingh Gabbar
I am writing a small utility program in IronPython to install applications on remote machine using managementclass which uses WMI. Now, the script would install an application on Machine_B from Machine_A, it works fine as long as you have the msi file on the local drive of the Target machine (Machine_B, in this case). I want to be able to do same thing with .msi file being on the Host (Machine_A) machine. network_scope = r"\\%Machine_B\root\cimv2" scope = ManagementScope(network_scope, options) scope.Connect() mp = ManagementPath("Win32_Product") ogo = ObjectGetOptions() mc = ManagementClass(scope, mp, ogo) inParams = mc.GetMethodParameters ("Install") inParams["PackageLocation"] = r"C:\installs\python-3.1.1.msi" inParams["AllUsers"] = True retVal = mc.InvokeMethod ("Install", inParams, None) print retVal ["ReturnValue"].ToString() PROBLEM : [Machine A] --- Where I am running the script, and want to host the .msi file [Machine B] --- where I want to install the application So, How can I define the UNC path for local machine ? what will be inParams["PackageLocation"] = ??

• SoundPool.load() and FileDescriptor from file

- by Hans
I tried using the load function of the SoundPool that takes a FileDescriptor, because I wanted to be able to set the offset and length. The File is not stored in the Ressources but a file on the storage card. Even though neither the load nor the play function of the SoundPool throw any Exception or print anything to the console, the sound is not played. Using the same code, but use the file path string in the SoundPool constructor works perfectly. This is how I have tried the loading (start equals 0 and length is the length of the file in miliseconds): FileInputStream fileIS = new FileInputStream(new File(mFile)); mStreamID = mSoundPool.load(fileIS.getFD(), start, length, 0); mPlayingStreamID = mSoundPool.play(mStreamID, 1f, 1f, 1, 0, 1f); If I would use this, it works: mStreamID = mSoundPool.load(mFile, 0); mPlayingStreamID = mSoundPool.play(mStreamID, 1f, 1f, 1, 0, 1f); Any ideas anyone? Thanks

• Convert matched string of UTF-8 values to UTF-8 characters in Ruby

- by user1475154
Trying to convert output from a rest_client GET to the characters that are represented with escape sequences. Input: ...
ග脸脴㼰脹⭱"... (which I put in 'all_subs') Match: m = /sub_id"\:"([^"]+)"/.match(all_subs.to_str) [1] Print: puts m.force_encoding("UTF-8").unpack('U*').pack('U*') But it just comes out the same way I put it in. ie, "ග脸脴㼰脹⭱" However, if I convert a raw string of it: puts "ග脸脴㼰脹⭱".unpack('U*').pack('U*') The output is perfect as "??????"

• Numpy modify array in place?

- by User
I have the following code which is attempting to normalize the values of an m x n array (It will be used as input to a neural network, where m is the number of training examples and n is the number of features). However, when I inspect the array in the interpreter after the script runs, I see that the values are not normalized; that is, they still have the original values. I guess this is because the assignment to the array variable inside the function is only seen within the function. How can I do this normalization in place? Or do I have to return a new array from the normalize function? import numpy def normalize(array, imin = -1, imax = 1): """I = Imin + (Imax-Imin)*(D-Dmin)/(Dmax-Dmin)""" dmin = array.min() dmax = array.max() array = imin + (imax - imin)*(array - dmin)/(dmax - dmin) print array[0] def main(): array = numpy.loadtxt('test.csv', delimiter=',', skiprows=1) for column in array.T: normalize(column) return array if __name__ ==
a = main()

Basically I want to get the details from FILE 1 and compare with FILE2 (master list) . Example : A1 in FILE2 was not available in FILE1 , so in output file we have “-“ for 1st three fields and rest from FILE2 . Now, we have A11 and we got the detail in FILE1. So we write details of A11 from both File 1 & 2

• Implement a simple class in your favorite language.

I'm doing this to learn syntax of different programming languages. So, how would you defined the following class along with with it's operations in your favorite programming language? Image generated by http://yuml.me/ And a main method or equivalent to invoke it: For instance, for Java it would be: ... public static void main( String [] args ) { Fraction f = new Fraction(); f.numerator( 2 ); f.denominator( 5 ); f.print(); } ....

• Manipulating binary data in Python

- by Dominic Bou-Samra
I am opening up a binary file like so: file = open("test/test.x", 'rb') and reading in lines to a list. Each line looks a little like: '\xbe\x00\xc8d\xf8d\x08\xe4.\x07~\x03\x9e\x07\xbe\x03\xde\x07\xfe
' I am having a hard time manipulating this data. If I try and print each line, python freezes, and emits beeping noises (I think there's a binary beep code in there somewhere). How do I go about using this data safely? How can I convert each hex number to decimal?

• Parsing dbpedia JSON in Python

- by givp
Hello, I'm trying to get my head around the dbpedia JSON schema and can't figure out an efficient way of extracting a specific node: This is what dbpedia gives me: http://dbpedia.org/data/Ceramic_art.json I've got the whole thing as a JSON object in Python but don't really understand how to get the english abstract from this data. I've gotten this far: u = "http://dbpedia.org/data/Ceramic_art.json" data = urlfetch.fetch(url=u) json_data = json.loads(data.content) for j in json_data["http://dbpedia.org/resource/Ceramic_art"]: if(j == "http://dbpedia.org/ontology/abstract"): print "it's here" Not sure how to proceed from here. As you can see there are multiple languages. I need to get the english abstract. Thanks for your help, g

• 'int' object is not callable

- by Oscar Reyes
I'm trying to define a simply Fraction class And I'm getting this error: python fraction.py Traceback (most recent call last): File "fraction.py", line 20, in <module> f.numerator(2) TypeError: 'int' object is not callable The code follows: class Fraction(object): def __init__( self, n=0, d=0 ): self.numerator = n self.denominator = d def get_numerator(self): return self.numerator def get_denominator(self): return self.denominator def numerator(self, n): self.numerator = n def denominator( self, d ): self.denominator = d def prints( self ): print "%d/%d" %(self.numerator, self.denominator) if __name__ ==
f = Fraction() f.numerator(2) f.denominator(5) f.prints() I thought it was because I had numerator(self) and numerator(self, n) but now I know Python doesn't have method overloading ( function overloading ) so I renamed to get_numerator but that's not the problems. What could it be?

• Python: How do I pass a variable by reference?

- by David Sykes
The Python documentation seems unclear about whether parameters are passed by reference or value, and the following code produces the unchanged value 'Original' class PassByReference: def __init__(self): self.variable = 'Original' self.Change(self.variable) print self.variable def Change(self, var): var = 'Changed' Is there something I can do to pass the variable by actual reference? Update: I am coming to the conclusion that while Andrea answered my actual question (Can you... No but you can...), on the subject of pass by reference Blair Conrad is more technically correct. As I understand it the crux is that a copy of a reference is being passed. If you assign that copy, as in my example, then you lose the reference to the original and it remains unchanged. If, however, you 'use' that reference, for example append on a passed list, then the original is changed. I will see how the comments and votes go before choosing the answer people think is the best

• Referencing Excel Sheets with JET Driver Sheets Are Duplicated with Underscores

- by MasterMax1313
I'm referencing an excel document with the JET database driver, which was working just fine until one day the application failed. Upon further investigation I noticed that the tabs were duplicated in some instances (all tabs actually) - i.e. Tab1$ and Tab1$_. I've researched this issue and found that it is caused by the user applying a filter. Now the filters have been removed, no special formatting, frozen panes, or print formats, but still I have these tabs duplicated. Normally I'd code around this, but since we're in a code freeze I need to come up with an Excel based solution. I want to get rid of those crazy underscored tab names / reverences. I could probably run a program to clean up the file if necessary, to send it back to the users, but I want to explore Excel options first. Thoughts? I have Excel 2010, and access to any other version as well.

• dangling pointer, reason for value change after free()?

- by Aman Jain
In the following code segment, after free(x), why does y becomes 0? As per my understanding, the memory in the heap that was being pointed to by x, and is still being pointed by y, hasn't been allocated to someone else, so how can it change to 0? And moreover, I don't think it is free(x) that changed it to 0. Any comments? #include <stdio.h> int main ( int argc, char *argv[] ) { int *y = NULL; int *x = NULL; x = malloc(4); *x = 5; y = x; printf("[%d]
", *y); //prints 5 free(x); printf("[%d]
", *y); //why doesn't print 5?, prints 0 instead return 0; }

• View a SYS.XMLTYPE returned from an Oracle function, using PL/SQL

- by caerphilly
I have an Oracle function that dynamically creates an XML document, and returns it in a SYS.XMLTYPE value. I want to run a query from SQL Developer that calls that function and prints the document (either via a select, or dbms_output - I don't care). But all the examples/documentation seem to refer to querying XML columns in tables, and I can't seem to get the syntax right for my particular usage. I'd like something like this: declare x SYS.XMLTYPE; begin x := my_package.my_function(); select x.getclobval() from x; -- doesn't work! end; How can I print out the value of the XML type variable 'x' in the above code?

• java.util.Date.toString() is printing out wrong format

- by pacoverflow
The following code prints out "vmtDataOrig.creationdate=2012-11-03" VmtData vmtDataOrig = VmtDataDao.getInstance().loadVmt(1); System.out.println("vmtDataOrig.creationdate=" + vmtDataOrig.getCreationDate().toString()); Here is the definition of the creationDate field in the VmtData class: private Date creationDate = null; Here is the hibernate mapping of the creationDate field to the database table column: <property name="creationDate" column="CREATIONDATE" type="date"/> The CREATIONDATE column in the MySQL database table is of type "date", and for the record retrieved it has the value "2012-11-03". The Javadoc for the java.util.Date.toString() method says it is supposed to print the Date object in the form "dow mon dd hh:mm:ss zzz yyyy". Anyone know why it is printing it out in the form "yyyy-MM-dd"?

• How to programatically read native DLL imports in C#?

- by Eric
The large hunk of C# code below is intended to print the imports of a native DLL. I copied it from from this link and modified it very slightly, just to use LoadLibraryEx as Mike Woodring does here. I find that when I call the Foo.Test method with the original example's target, MSCOREE.DLL, it prints all the imports fine. But when I use other dlls like GDI32.DLL or WSOCK32.DLL the imports do not get printed. What's missing from this code that would let it print all the imports as, for example, DUMPBIN.EXE does? (Is there a hint I'm not grokking in the original comment that says, "using mscoree.dll as an example as it doesnt export any thing"?) Here's the extract that just shows how it's being invoked: public static void Test() { // WORKS: var path = @"c:\windows\system32\mscoree.dll"; // NO ERRORS, BUT NO IMPORTS PRINTED EITHER: //var path = @"c:\windows\system32\gdi32.dll"; //var path = @"c:\windows\system32\wsock32.dll"; var hLib = LoadLibraryEx(path, 0, DONT_RESOLVE_DLL_REFERENCES | LOAD_IGNORE_CODE_AUTHZ_LEVEL); TestImports(hLib, true); } And here is the whole code example: namespace PETest2 { [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Explicit)] public unsafe struct IMAGE_IMPORT_BY_NAME { [FieldOffset(0)] public ushort Hint; [FieldOffset(2)] public fixed char Name[1]; } [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Explicit)] public struct IMAGE_IMPORT_DESCRIPTOR { #region union ///
/// CSharp doesnt really support unions, but they can be emulated by a field offset 0 ///
[FieldOffset(0)] public uint Characteristics;
