• How do I use LibreOffice's 3d transitions in Impress?

  How can I get the 3D transitions working on Impress? I got a presentation coming soon, and as a requirement of the course the professor want us to use transitions on our "Power Point" chapter, obviously I have been using LibreOffice in every exercise but the native transitions are kind of lame, so when I install the newer version of Ubuntu, always install the extra package to the transitions - I had installed the 3D package: libreoffice-ogltrans 1:3.4.3-3ubuntu2 In previous versions of Ubuntu and worked perfectly, but for some reason is not working in this release. I got LibreOffice 3.4.3, Ubuntu Oneiric Ocelot (11.10) and my hardware is not relevant because I had it working before on previous releases. I know is not critical, but for my class is a pretty important deal, and can be a perfect opportunity to show the class that the cool stuff are not only in Windows. • VMware Player 5.0 or VMware Workstation 9.0 after upgrade to Ubuntu 12.10

  The upgrade process Upgrading Ubuntu 12.04 to latest version 12.10 - aka Quantal Quetzal - is straight forward and you only need to follow the offical upgrade instructions. Short version on the console looks like this: sudo do-release-upgrade This will update the repository entries, and start the upgrade process. After some minutes or hours of download and installation, you have to reboot your system once to get the new kernel loaded. As time of writing, I'm on '3.5.0-17-generic'. And as with any modification of the kernel version, you have to compile the necessary kernel modules to get VMware Player or Workstation up and running. Usually, this happens the first time you try start your VMware software and that's it. Well, again not so this time. Getting the kernel patch Luckily, the community over VMware is very active and you can get a new kernel patch in the online forums here. Get the download and put in a folder have write permissions. Then you extract the archive on the console like so: tar -xjvf vmware9_kernel35_patch.tar.bz2 Then you change into the newly created folder: cd vmware9_kernel3.5_patch/ And you execute the available shell script as root (superuser) like so: sudo ./patch-modules_3.5.0.sh This will stop any running instances of VMware software, patches the source files and runs the compile process for your active environment. This might take some time depending on your machine, and once completed you can start VMware Player or Workstation as previously. In case that you are going to apply the patch again, the script will simply quit with the following output: /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/.patched found. You have already patched your sources. Exiting You might remove the .patched file in case that you upgraded/changed your kernel and you need to apply the patch again.   I'm writing a game where I want to use ContentTypeReader. While loading my model like this: terrain = Content.Load<Model>("Text/terrain"); I get following error: Error loading "Text\terrain". Cannot find ContentTypeReader AdventureGame.World.HeightMapInfoReader,AdventureGame,Version=1.0.0.0,Culture=neutral. I've read that this kind of error can be caused by space's in assembly name so i've already removed them all but exception still occurs. • Warning and error information in stored procedures revisited

  Originally way to handle warnings and errors in MySQL stored routine was designed as follows: if warning was generated during stored routine execution which has a handler for such a warning/error, MySQL remembered the handler, ignored the warning and continued execution after routine is executed MySQL checked if there is a remembered handler and activated if any This logic was not ideal and causes several problems, particularly: it was not possible to choose right handler for an instruction which generated several warnings or errors, because only first one was chosen handling conditions in current scope messed with conditions in different there were no generated warning/errors in Diagnostic Area that is against SQL Standard. First try to fix this was done in version 5.5. Patch left Diagnostic Area intact after stored routine execution, but cleared it in the beginning of each statement which can generate warnings or to work with tables. Diagnostic Area checked after stored routine execution.This patch solved issue with order of condition handlers, but lead to new issues. Most popular was that outer stored routine could see warnings which should be already handled by handler inside inner stored routine, although latest has handler. I even had to wrote a blog post about it.And now I am happy to announce this behaviour changed third time.Since version 5.6 Diagnostic Area cleared after instruction leaves its handler.This lead to that only one handler will see condition it is supposed to proceed and in proper order. All past problems are solved.I am happy that my old blog post describing weird behaviour in version 5.5 is not true any more.

• How do I develop database-utilizing application in an agile/test-driven-development way?

  I want to add databases (traditional client/server RDBMS's like Mysql/Postgresql as opposed to NoSQL, or embedded databases) to my toolbox as a developer. I've been using SQLite for simpler projects with only 1 client, but now I want to do more complicated things (ie, db-backed web development). I usually like following agile and/or test-driven-development principles. I generally code in Perl or Python. Questions: How do I test my code such that each run of the test suite starts with a 'pristine' state? Do I run a separate instance of the database server every test? Do I use a temporary database? How do I design my tables/schema so that it is flexible with respect to changing requirements? Do I start with an ORM for my language? Or do I stick to manually coding SQL? One thing I don't find appealing is having to change more than one thing (say, the CREATE TABLE statement and associated crud statements) for one change, b/c that's error prone. On the other hand, I expect ORM's to be a low slower and harder to debug than raw SQL. What is the general strategy for migrating data between one version of the program and a newer one? Do I carefully write ALTER TABLE statements between each version, or do I dump the data and import fresh in the new version?

• Ubuntu (i386 - 32bit) 12.04 LTS [DESKTOP] - Freezes During Preparing to Install

  I know this is for the Desktop version of Ubuntu, but I definitely plan on installing the server as well. I just want a GUI to manage my server. Here is what I have done: Placed Ubuntu i386/32bit 12.04 LTS [DESKTOP] disc in the disc tray. The disc loads fine. Clicked install Ubuntu. Without checking the download updates while installing or install this third-party software. Clicked continue. Mouse cursor turns to spinning circle and remains a spinning circle while the screen freezes its place at "Preparing to install Ubuntu". I tried not checking any of the boxes and clicking continue. I tried checking Download updates while installing. I tried checking Install this third-party software. I tried checking BOTH Download updates while installing AND Install this third-party software. Does anyone else face this very same issue? Is there a workaround for this problem? Do I need to use a lower version of Ubuntu? If so, which version do you recommend for my system specifications? My system meets the system requirements. Here are my exact system specifications. (Custom modifications: 320GBx2 HDD && 256MB AGP GFX card && 1GBx2 RAM)

• trying to upgrade memory

  I've been using Ubuntu on my laptop for awhile now. Not quite used to it yet. I've got a Acer Aspire with an orig 4 gig mem/500 gig HDD. Running 12.04 presently 32 bit sys. I have the 13.04 upgrade disc and want to upgrade my memory to 8 Gig. Everytime I install the 8 gig memory, the system won't boot to either version. I downloaded the 64 bit version of both versions of Ubuntu but no results yet. Can anyone offer a suggestion here? I'm kinda lost. Additional Information: The memory was purchased through Acer/Kingston. Recommended for this computer. I watched the video on installing it, so I doubt it's installed wrong. (There's only one way of putting it in). I swapped Op Sys, from Ubuntu 12.04 to 13.04 to 13.10 and now to Xubuntu 13.10 64 bit version. I'm still not having any luck with this upgrade. Would it be necessary to upgrade the CPU? It's just a thought, I don't know what else could keep me from utilizing the new memory. Additional Information: Called Kingston this afternoon, they are sending replacement lower density memory modules 2/4 gig - 8 gig. Tech service says I need to upgrade BIOS to utilize new memory install VIA Dos since it is no longer a windows system. I'm not sure how to go about that but it's a learning process I can live with. Thank you all for your help/support. I realize this isn't a Ubuntu problem but each new user of this op sys, seems to share simular problems and maybe someone can use this info to their advantage.

I can get a normal Silverlight control to work in both Silverlight 3 and Silverlight 4, but not the phone version. • Set the JAXB context factory initialization class to be used

  I have updated our projects (Java EE based running on Websphere 8.5) to use a new release of a company internal framework (and Ejb 3.x deployment descriptors rather than the 2.x ones). Since then my integration Tests fail with the following exception: [java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.ibm.xml.xlxp2.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory] I can build the application with the previous framework release and everything works fine. While debugging i noticed that within the ContextFinder (javax.xml.bind) there are two different behaviours: Previous Version (Everything works just fine): None of the different places brings up a factory class so the default factory class gets loaded which is com.sun.xml.internal.bind.v2.ContextFactory (defined as String constant within the class). Upgraded Version (ClassNotFound): There is a resource "META-INF/services/javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext" beeing loaded successfully and the first line read makes the ContextFinder attempt to load "com.ibm.xml.xlxp2.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory" which causes the error. I now have two questions: What sort is that resource? Because inside our EAR there is two WARs and none of those two contains a folder services in its META-INF directory. Where could that value be from otherwise? Because a filediff showed me no new or changed properties files. No need to say i am going to read all about the JAXB configuration possibilities but if you have first insights on what could have gone wrong or help me out with that resource (is it a real file i have to look for?) id appreciate a lot. Many Thanks! EDIT (according to comments Input/Questions): Out of curiosity, does your framework include JAXB JARs? Did the old version of your framework include jaxb.properties? Indeed (i am a bit surprised) the framework has a customized eclipselink-2.4.1-.jar inside the EAR that includes both a JAXB implementation and a jaxb.properties file that shows the following entry in both versions (the one that finds the factory as well as in the one that throws the exception): javax.xml.bind.context.factory=org.eclipse.persistence.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory I think this is has nothing to do with the current issue since the jar stayed exactly the same in both EARs (the one that runs/ the one with the expection) It's also not clear to me why the old version of the framework was ever selecting the com.sun implementation There is a class javax.xml.bind.ContextFinder which is responsible for initializing the JAXBContextFactory. This class searches various placess for the existance of a jaxb.properties file or a "javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext" resource. If ALL of those places dont show up which Context Factory to use there is a deault factory loaded which is hardcoded in the class itself: private static final String PLATFORM_DEFAULT_FACTORY_CLASS = "com.sun.xml.internal.bind.v2.ContextFactory"; Now back to my problem: Building with the previous version of the framework (and EJB 2.x deployment descriptors) everything works fine). While debugging i can see that there is no configuration found and thatfore above mentioned default factory is loaded. Building with the new version of the framework (and EJB 3.x deployment descriptors so i can deploy) ONLY A TESTCASE fails but the rest of the functionality works (like i can send requests to our webservice and they dont trigger any errors). While debugging i can see that there is a configuration found. This resource is named "META-INF/services/javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext". Here are the most important lines of how this resource leads to the attempt to load 'com.ibm.xml.xlxp2.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory' which then throws the ClassNotFoundException. After alot of trial and error I traced the problem down. All of my XML is currently being marshalled via JAXB and I'm not sure what is the best way to go about adding a second xmlns attribute to a different element in my file. So that's the question. The BulkDataExchange probably takes the XML payload, breaks it up, and send the pieces out to the Merchant or Trading API. The inner pieces of the payload then do not have the namespace and the get the error. This is a guess on my part but I wouldn't be surprised if this is what was going on behind the scenes. Who said this was a class library? So I opened Project Properties, and changed it (it was marked as "Class Library" for some reason - it either wasn't yesterday, or was and worked fine) to an Output Type of "Windows Application" ("Console Application" and "Class Library" being the only other options). Now it won't compile, complaining: "*Program 'c:\Platypus_Server_WebAPI\PlatypusServerWebAPI\PlatypusServerWebAPI\obj\Debug\PlatypusServerWebAPI.exe' does not contain a static 'Main' method suitable for an entry point...*" How can I get my Web API app back up and running in view of this quandary? UPDATE Looking in packages.config, two entries seem chin-scratch-worthy: <package id="Microsoft.AspNet.Providers" version="1.2" targetFramework="net40" /> <package id="Microsoft.Web.Infrastructure" version="1.0.0.0" targetFramework="net40" /> All the others target net451. Could this be the problem? Should I remove these packages? The system cannot find the file specified. UPDATE 5 Note: The project is now (after being opened as a web site) named "localhost_48614" And...there is no longer a "References" folder...?!?!? As to that YSOD I'm getting, the official instructions (http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/mvc-5/how-to-upgrade-an-aspnet-mvc-4-and-web-api-project-to-aspnet-mvc-5-and-web-api-2) said to do this, and I quote: "Update all elements that contain “System.Web.WebPages.Razor” from version “2.0.0.0” to version“3.0.0.0”." UPDATE 6 When I select Tools Library Package Manager Manage NuGet Packages for Solution now, I get, "Operation failed. Unable to locate the solution directory. Please ensure that the solution has been saved." So I save it, and it saves it with this funky new name (C:\Users\clay\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\localhost_48614\localhost_48614.sln) I get the Yellow Strip of Enlightenment across the top of the NuGet Package Manager telling me, "Some NuGet packages are missing from this solution. Click to restore from your online package sources." I do (click the "Restore" button, that is), and it downloads the missing packages ... I end up with the 30 packages. I try to run the app/site again, and ... the erstwhile YSOD becomes a compilation error: The pre-application start initialization method Start on type System.Web.Mvc.PreApplicationStartCode threw an exception with the following error message: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.WebPages.Razor, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies.   For a little project about XML I try to use HTML5 as it has SVG and WAI-ARIA Support. I also want to use a XSL stylesheet for my document. But I can't get a valid HTML5 document with a nested SVG. Using header('Content-Type: image/xhtml+svg'); or header('Content-Type: text/html'); there is no XML parsing error, but the page will not show the SVG as a graph but as text (without the tags). Can anyone tell me how to avoid the meta tag to be inserted or how to set a propper Content-Type that will make the browser rendern the SVG. Or even any other hint to get this working. I would really like to keep HTML5 to be able to keep the WAI-ARIA Landmark Roles an the HTML5 tags like NAV and FOOTER.

• IIS7 MVC deploy - 404 not found on actions that accept "id" parameter.

  Hello. Once deployed parts of my web-application stop working. Index-es on each controller do work, and one form posting via Ajax, Login works too. Other then that yields 404. I understand that nothing particular should be done in integrated mode. I don't know how to proceed with troubleshooting. Some info: App is using default app pool set to integrated mode. WebApp is done in net framework 3.5. I use default routing model. Along web.config in root there is web.config in /View folder referencing HttpNotFoundHandler. OS is Windows Server 2008. Admins issued aspnet_regiis.exe -i IIS 7 Any help is appreciated. Thx. EDIT: I determined that only actions that accept ID parameter don't work. On the contrary, when I add dummy id method in Home controller of default MVC app it works. • Access Violation Using memcpy or Assignment to an Array in a Struct

  Hi, I wrote a program last night that worked just fine but when I refactored it today to make it more extensible, I ended up with a problem. The original version had a hard-coded array of bytes. After some processing, some bytes were written into the array and then some more processing was done. To avoid hard-coding the pattern, I put the array in a structure so that I could add some related data and create an array of them. However now, I cannot write to the array in the structure. Here’s a pseudo-code example: main() { char pattern[]="\x32\x33\x12\x13\xba\xbb"; PrintData(pattern); pattern[2]='\x65'; PrintData(pattern); } That one works but this one does not: struct ENTRY { char* pattern; int somenum; }; main() { ENTRY Entries[] = { {"\x32\x33\x12\x13\xba\xbb\x9a\xbc", 44} , {"\x12\x34\x56\x78", 555} }; PrintData(Entries[0].pattern); Entries[0].pattern[2]='\x65'; //0xC0000005 exception!!! :( PrintData(Entries[0].pattern); } The second version causes an access violation exception on the assignment. I’m sure it’s because the second version allocates memory differently, but I’m starting to get a headache trying to figure out what’s what or how to get fix this. (I’m currently working around it by dynamically allocating a buffer of the same size as the pattern array, copying the pattern to the new buffer, making the changes to the buffer, using the buffer in the place of the pattern array, and then trying to remember to free the—temporary—buffer.) (Specifically, the original version cast the pattern array—+offset—to a DWORD* and assigned a DWORD constant to it to overwrite the four target bytes. The new version cannot do that since the length of the source is unknown—may not be four bytes—so it uses memcpy instead. I’ve checked and re-checked and have made sure that the pointers to memcpy are correct, but I still get an access violation. I use memcpy instead of str(n)cpy because I am using plain chars (as an array of bytes), not Unicode chars and ignoring the null-terminator. Using an assignment as above causes the same problem.) Any ideas? Thanks a lot.
