  • Where to find prebuilt binaries for subversion 1.6 for Ubuntu (or Debian)?

    While I can easily find the binaries for the latest version of subversion (1.6) I can't find the binaries for Ubuntu (or Debian). The download page at tigris.org suggest to use the command: apt-get install subversion but as you can experience this will install up to the version 1.5.4 (at the time of writing May 6, 2009). This isn't a nice thing because many working copies that I share with Windows are automatically updated to 1.6 by TortoiseSVN.

  • POS Desktop Application using DB or Localfiles ? using WPF

    I am planning to build a POS Application for my shop. I have enough knowledge to build the application using DB and also using local files( system.IO - binary files ) to store and access the data for my application. But , i have no deployment experience and confused in choosing data storing option. Database using MDF may be good option ( may ease plenty of coding ) but i don't want to have SQL server on my desktop. as i am using WPF for building , my concern is that my application may get slow due to server response and design rendering of WPF. Then i tried to use only local data (binary files) to store the data and retrive using class and objects. but this coding is taking lot of time , so in the middle of the process i struck in the dilemma of going back to Database . Please help , for performance wise whic one is better . and in Practical World ,in professional applications which one is widely using .. please give suggestions ..

  • creating a custom upload progress bar

    hi, i have seen all the upload progress bar plugins , widgets, etc. they all suck. their either too bulky with too much useless code or they dont work. what i want to know is where can i read up on how to display an easy upload progress indicator. most browsers have a status progress bar on them below but it isnt very professional to use just that when dealing with clients. how does the browser do it? i want to know the internals of how the browser work with indication a status of something uploading and maybe i can make something using php & jquery. thanks

While installing application i found endpoind not found exception.     Hey... its XMAS Eve and something is bugging me... yes, I have work on my mind even when I am on holiday. The vast amount of frameworks available for PHP now use MVC. Even ASP.net has its own MVC module. I can see the attraction of MVC, I really can and I use it frequently. The only downside that I can see is that you have to fire up the whole system to execute a page request. Depending on your task this can be a little wasteful. So the question. In a professional environment is this the only way to use PHP nowadays or are their other design methods which have alternative benefits?

    Hi, all. Yesterday, my supervisor told me that tmp-file-based session should be THE answer to session implementation, and I should abandon any idea of making sessions persistent. He argues that file-based session is much faster and eaiser to use than other choices like db-based or memcached-based implementations.   • Achieving AES-256 Channel Encryption with the .NET Compact Framework

    Hi There, I am working on a business application where the clients are Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional devices. The server is a Java enterprise application. The industry working group recommends AES-256 encryption for client/server communications. This is necessary to gain certification. The encryption doesn't necessarily need to be channel encryption, it could be payload encryption. Channel encryption is preferable. The client and server communicate using SOAP/HTTP, which we are yet to implement. We plan to use WCF on the compact framework. In order to alleviate some of the work required to implement manual encryption/decryption, it would be nice if we could achieve the required encryption either at the TLS level, or somehow using the WS-* standards (I'm not particularly familiar with that group of technologies but I am learning right now). The server supports https with 256-bit AES. Does anybody have an idea on the best way to implement this? Thanks in advance.

I am looking to try to get a social network site up and running on Ruby on Rails and was looking at RailsSpace: Building a Social Networking Website with Ruby on Rails (Addison-Wesley Professional Ruby Series) - Paperback (July 30, 2007) by Michael Hartl. This was published in 2007, however, and the newer reviews say it is not very helpful. Does anyone know if there are any new publications out there that walk you through building a social network site while teaching you the code(rather than just using a out of the box program)? Thanks

  • building objects from xml file at runtime and intializing, in one pass?

    I have to parse the XML file and build objects representation based on that, now once I get all these data I create entries in various database for these data objects. I have to do second pass over that for value as in the first pass all I could do is build the assets in various databases. and in second pass I get the values for all the data and put it in the database. I have a feeling that this can be done in a single pass but I just want to see what are your opinions. As I am just a student who started with professional work, experienced ppl please help. Can someone who have ideas or done similar work, please provide some light on the topic so that I can think over the possibility of the work and get the prototype going based on your suggestion.   • What's currently the best way to extend Excel using C#?

    I have the professional versions of VS2008 & VS2010. I wish to add a couple buttons to a toolbar in Excel. When they are clicked I'd like to be able to open a form (either WinForms or WPF is fine) collect a few values from the user in the form and then take that data + read cell values from the current worksheet to perform some database operations. What's currently the best way to do this using C#? I'd greatly appreciate a pointer to any examples / tutorials. My understanding is that VS2010 has improved the process alot but I may have to deal w/ Excel 2003 which I don't think it supports. I get confused between Visual Studio 2008s Extensibility-Shared Addin template and other Office Addin templates I've seen. I'm not sure when which type of solution is appropriate. I'm new to Office development so I'd really appreciate any help to get me going on the right track. Thanks much.

  • What should I do to practice?

    I start a year long industrial placement in September where i will be coding in Java predominantly. I am going to use the summer to brush up on my Java as in year one of the degree Java was the main language taught for OOP modules. However this year i have had no Java exposure except for an algorithms module, which was one of eight, so as you can see i am probably getting really rusty!. What i wanted to know is, how does the "real world" java programming differ from university coding and what do you suggest i brush up on that would be different to my normal workings. As a start I definitely need to get familiar with a professional IDE like NetBeans, opposed to having used BlueJ throughout but more specifically what coding practices should I get more familiar with. I appreciate they wont expect me to be a qualified full developer and will give me time, but I would like to hit the ground running as it were, with me having full hopes to secure a permanent position after I finish my degree.
