  Hi, considering I have experience with Java SE: which language should I learn(and is best for that purpose) in order to build web applications some day with it? I have been contemplating PHP and Java EE. The latter does indeed seems as an obvious choice given my Java SE knowledge. • How to install new modes in emacs 23 on OS X?

  I just downloaded the Haskell and J modes off of SourceForge, and I'm having trouble figuring out how to make them interface with emacs 23. Google searches yield detailed instructions for emacs 22, but it looks like changes have been made that make it hard to figure out where I'm supposed to stick the binaries. The internal documentation seems to assume more experience with emacs internals than I currently have, and the problem has resisted solution for several days. Does anyone know how to get these modes up and running?

  I'm about to embark on a new project in Silverlight 4, and definitely want to take advantage of the MVVM pattern, now I've finally grasped the basics. For implementing commands in Silverlight 4 it seems there are rather a lot of options ranging from the new built-in Command/ICommand option on the Button, over the InvokeCommand defined in the Microsoft.Expressions.Interactivity namespace and on to the range of assisting MVVM frameworks (Prism, MVVMlight etc).   The Devise authentication framework uses flash notices everywhere. This makes it easy to integrate with apps but it leads to poor user experience sometimes. I am wondering what's an easy way to selectively turn off some of the Devise flash notices in my Rails 3 app. In particular, I'd like to get rid of the blatantly obvious signed_in and signed_out flashes. Some searching suggested subclassing the session controller or use something like this but I haven't been able to find any simple solutions to this problem.

  My application users asked if it were possible for pages that contain a jqGrid to remember the filter, sort order and current page of the grid (because when they click a grid item to carry out a task and then go back to it they'd like it to be "as they left it") Cookies seem to be the way forward, but how to get the page to load these and set them in the grid before it makes its first data request is a little beyond me at this stage. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing with jqGrid? Thanks!

• Waiting for a background operation to complete

  I have been suffering from the all too common 'Waiting for a background operation to complete...' message in Visual Studio 2012 (Professional) for a while now but it has been fairly sporadic. Lately though, I am really struggling to use Visual Studio as pretty much whenever i try and do anything with any Razor views (mostly clicking to move the cursor) visual studio hangs and the above message appears for about a minute at a time. (If when its finished doing stuff i then click in the view again, the process repeats, and repeats, and repeats.....) I have searched high and low, and read loads of articles regarding this and peoples suggestions and tried changing indentation settings, resetting settings, etc but none have worked. Has anyone come across something else that may work as this is seriously impeding my ability to use visual studio and sadly provoking much cursing.

  Out of the box, I've noticed the following user experience in SharePoint 2007: User navigates to a list. User opens list item for display. User selects "Edit Item" link. User changes the list item, presses Submit. User is redirected back to list. Is it possible to change the last step so the user is redirected back to the list item display form?
