  • Two Instances of Sql Server (2005 and 2008)

    Hi All, I installed Visual Studio 2008 Professional in my machine and It had installed SQL Server Express 2005 database in machine, and I use it very fine! I installed SQL Managment Studio and works great. So, in this week I Installed Visual Studio 2010 Pro in machine and the setup installed the SQL Server express 2008 and it overwrite the instance of my SQL Server Express 2005. All right, Now, I'd like to know how can I have two instances of the SQL Server Express in my Machine, Express 2005 and Express 2008. I can not access the 2005 , only 2008 :( and my projects uses 2005.. Somebody Help me! thanks Bye

    Hi everyone, I would like to obtain the results retrieved from pageTest execution (core @ CVS) from a C# project (library or console). pageTest source code shows a dynamic library project (generating a DLL file) and also an application project (generating an EXE file).   • Should I use ICommand or Expression.Interactions InvokeCommand for MVVM in Silverlight 4?

    I'm about to embark on a new project in Silverlight 4, and definitely want to take advantage of the MVVM pattern, now I've finally grasped the basics. For implementing commands in Silverlight 4 it seems there are rather a lot of options ranging from the new built-in Command/ICommand option on the Button, over the InvokeCommand defined in the Microsoft.Expressions.Interactivity namespace and on to the range of assisting MVVM frameworks (Prism, MVVMlight etc). Does anyone here have gotcha's, experience and wisdom to share on this subject?

    Hi, considering I have experience with Java SE: which language should I learn(and is best for that purpose) in order to build web applications some day with it? I have been contemplating PHP and Java EE. The latter does indeed seems as an obvious choice given my Java SE knowledge. But how does it fares in comparison with PHP and how good is it for the aforementioned purpose? If there is a better language for this purpose, feel free to recommend it. Thank you.

  • What are your references/recommendation on .NET DVDs, books and online training?

    There are lots of training methods from different vendors to learn .NET technologies (i.e. books, DVDs, online training, etc.). All of them claim the same thing: that they are the best, their content is 100% guaranteed, makes their customers professional in no time, etc. It’s confusing and sometimes frustrating as well. I especially want a training resource (i.e. a course) to provide valuable content in short time. More importantly I feel they should do their job properly so as to avoid the customer feeling they've wasted time or money. What I should do when I evaluating training methods and resources to help further software development skills? What are your training sources? Do you have any recommendations?

  • Remember (persist) the filter, sort order and current page of jqGrid

    My application users asked if it were possible for pages that contain a jqGrid to remember the filter, sort order and current page of the grid (because when they click a grid item to carry out a task and then go back to it they'd like it to be "as they left it") Cookies seem to be the way forward, but how to get the page to load these and set them in the grid before it makes its first data request is a little beyond me at this stage. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing with jqGrid? Thanks!

    The Devise authentication framework uses flash notices everywhere. This makes it easy to integrate with apps but it leads to poor user experience sometimes. I am wondering what's an easy way to selectively turn off some of the Devise flash notices in my Rails 3 app. In particular, I'd like to get rid of the blatantly obvious signed_in and signed_out flashes. Some searching suggested subclassing the session controller or use something like this but I haven't been able to find any simple solutions to this problem.

    Hypothetical: Let's say you are writing complex queries to a database and it is very important that the data you extracted is the correct result set (e.g., that you didn't mess up a JOIN by not using all the correct keys, and all the other things that can go wrong, et cetera). What would you rather use to do this? Would you write the query using Microsoft Access and its Design View, or would you write it in native SQL using a SQL IDE? There are too many service-based POJO classes that when let into the system complicates it way too much. One option would be use adapter pattern, map the request/response objects to internal domain classes and . But is it even required? Is there a better approach? What are your suggestions?
