• Close a tag with no text in lxml

  I am trying to output a XML file using Python and lxml However, I notice one thing that if a tag has no text, it does not close itself. An example of this would be: root = etree.Element('document') rootTree = etree.ElementTree(root) firstChild = etree.SubElement(root, 'test') The output of this is: <document> <test/> </document I want the output to be: <document> <test> </test> </document> So basically I want to close a tag which has no text, but is used to the attribute value. How do I do that? And also, what is such a tag called? I would have Googled it, but I don't know how to search for it.

• Change background colour of individual elements on the fly

  Hi, Is there a way in CSS or JQuery where I can dynamically change the background of li tags so they get slightly lighter for each element until it gets to white. For example say I had a list of 10 li elements. The first would have a red (#ff0000) background, the next one would then be a lighter shade of red, and so on and so on until we got to the last one which would have a background of white (#FFFFFF) The list can be any length and i just want the background colour to go from one colour e.g. red to another colour e.g. white. My site uses JQuery so if I have to use that I don't mind. Thanks

• In an Android test, how to check that a View is shown?

  Hello, I'm writing a UI test case (using ActivityUnitTestCase) and would like to check if at a given time a View subclass is visible to the user. I've found the View#isShown() method, which claims to do exactly this - checking the visibility field of this element and all its parents - but somehow it always returns "false" for all the elements. I'll be grateful for some help. If it makes it easier, I can paste some code. Also, I found ViewAsserts#assertOnScreen(View origin, View view) but it doesn't seem to do the right thing either - always returns true. Am I perhaps calling it wrong: assertOnScreen(viewImTesting.getRootView(), viewImTesting)? Thanks, Jan

• Problem with adjacent function in prototype

  Hi, I have this code: <input name="rz" class="required validate-string" style="margin-left:17px" id="rz" title="Input rz value" size="23" /> <p class="msg" style="display:none;">Input rz value</p> In the head I have: Event.observe(window, 'load', function() { $$("input").each(function(field){ Event.observe(field, "focus", function(input) { input.adjacent('p.msg').show(); }); Event.observe(field, "blur", function(input) { input.adjacent('p.msg').hide(); }); }); }); The idea is that when the input get the focus, the p element appears and on blur it goes away. The problem is that neither is working, and the error console shows "input.adjacent is not a function" I'm using prototype 1.6.1 and scriptaculous 1.8.3

• Jquery: Extracting the hrefs from multiple links on a page.

  Hi, I discovered that .attr() only applies to the first matched element on the page! So, I've been trying to get the hrefs from all the matched elements on a page, but to no avail. Here's what I tentatively wrote: var thelinks = $("td a").each(function(){ $(this).attr("href"); document.write(thelinks); }); I used document.write just to see what was going on, and I got a long list of "undefinedundefinedundefined" What I'm trying to do is extract the hrefs from each td a and then use ajax to visit those pages and do other stuff. I can get it work fine when it's dealing with just one link, but this multiple elements thing I can't figure out. Any help rendered is appreciated, I'm a novice to the world of Javascript and Jquery.

• Programming style: should you return early if a guard condition is not satisfied?

  One thing I've sometimes wondered is which is the better style out of the two shown below (if any)? Is it better to return immediately if a guard condition hasn't been satisfied, or should you only do the other stuff if the guard condition is satisfied?   Hi there, I want to save data to my Sony Ericsson K750i. I know the phone implements FileConnection version 1.0. The list of roots taken from FileSystemRegistry.listRoots(); returns single element named "c:/". I want to save a file.txt just about anywhere, but preferably to the memory stick attached. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work. It throws an IOException without any message. I tried opening the fileconnection on numerous roots like c:/, C:/, /, ./, root1/, SDCard/, CFCard/, MemoryStick/ and perhaps some more but without any luck. The exception is thrown right after this line for any of those roots: FileConnection filecon = (FileConnection) Connector.open("file:///MemoryStick/file.txt"); Please, what URL should i use?

• jQuery Validation using the class instead of the name value

  Hi, I'd like to validate a form using the jquery validate plugin, but I'm unable to use the 'name' value within the html - as this is a field also used by the server app. Specifically, I need to limit the number of checkboxes checked from a group. (Maximum of 3.) All of the examples I have seen, use the name attribute of each element. What I'd like to do is use the class instead, and then declare a rule for that. html This works: <input class="checkBox" type="checkbox" id="i0000zxthy" name="salutation" value="1" /> This doesn't work, but is what I'm aiming for: <input class="checkBox" type="checkbox" id="i0000zxthy" name="i0000zxthy" value="1" /> javascript: var validator = $(".formToValidate").validate({ rules:{ "salutation":{ required:true, }, "checkBox":{ required:true, minlength:3 } } }); Is it possible to do this - is there a way of targeting the class instead of the name within the rules options? • Tabcompletion and docview while editing rc.lua

  I saw that there is a lua plugin for eclipse and there is a docpage on the awesome main page api_doc and all the .lua files in /usr/share/awesome/lib. So I thought it must be possible to create a Library or Execution Environment so that one has tabcompletion and docview. So I tried making my own Execution Environment: wrote the standard .rockspec file downloaded the documentation made an ofline version of it and put it in docs/ folder ziped the files and folders in /usr/share/awesome/lib ziped all up tried it out ... and it failed. When I try to view a documentaion for a .lua file I get "Note: This element has no attached documentation." Questions: Am I totaly wrong in my doing (because I have the feeling I am)? Is there any way to edit the rc.lua with tabcompletion and docview?

  I am having trouble with an assertQuery(). In the html I have (verified by outputting the body) <input type="text" name="LASTNAME" id="LASTNAME" value="" maxlength="25" size="20" /> So I wrote a query for it to test to make sure this element exists and that the value is empty $this->assertQuery('input#LASTNAME[value=""]', 1); PhpUnit says the assertion fails Failed asserting node DENOTED BY input#LASTNAME[value=""] EXISTS Can you give me some insight into why this assertion fails and how to write it properly? • Creating an array & outputting its code definition for preloading

  I want to create a 2d array that represents my 2d canvas. For each pixel, I will look up the value and then save an integer {0, 1, 2, 3, 4} as each element of the array. Unfortunately, this takes way too friggin' long to run each time I load the game. How can I write a script that creates this array for me and outputs the array code so I can just paste it in a js file and have it preloaded? (I'm prototyping a game, so I just need to run this for my test map or two.)

• What's the best way to apply a drop shadow?

  What is the best method for applying drop shadows? I'm working on a site right now where we have a good deal of them, however, I've been fighting to find the best method to do it. The site is pretty animation heavy so shadows need to work well with this. I tried a jQuery shadow pulgin. The shadows looked good and were easy to use but were slow and didn't work well with any animations (required lots of redrawing, very joggy). I also tried creating my own jQuery extension that wraps my element in a couple gray divs and then offsets them a little bit to give a shadow effect. This worked well. It's quick and responsive to the animation. However, it makes DOM manipulation/traversal cumbersome since everything is wrapped in these shadow divs. I know there has to be a better way but this isn't exactly my forte. Thoughts?

  I tried to allocate an array of structs in this way: struct T { int a; int b; } data = Marshal.AllocHGlobal(count*Marshal.SizeOf(typeof(T)); ... I'd like to access to allocated data "binding" a struct to each element in array allocated with AllocHGlobal... something like this T v; v = (T)Marshal.PtrToStructure(data+1, typeof(T)); but i don't find any convenient way... why IntPtr lack of arithmetics? How can I workaround this is a "safe" way? Someone could confirm that PtrToStructure function copy data into the struct variable? In other words, modifing the struct reflect modifications in the structure array data, or not? Definitely, I want to operate on data pointed by an IntPtr using struct, without copying data each time, avoiding unsafe code. Thank all!

  I am using the Jquery Wysiwyg editor and I am trying to capture the html that makes up the content area to store in a DB. Is there anyway to get html of a element and save it as a string? My code looks like tihs <iframe id="wysiwyg_IFrame> <html> <head></head> <body> <ul> <li>This is a test</li> </ul> </body> </html> </iframe> I would either like to get a string that starts with <html>....</html> or just the body <body>...</body> does anyone know if this is possible? • MooTools - Programmatically fired events not working with event delegation

  Would really appreciate if anyone can help me figure out why I am unable to fire events programmatically when using event delegation in MooTools (from the Element.Delegation class). There is a parent <div> that has a change listener on some child <input> elements. When the change event is triggered by user actions, the handler on the parent div gets triggered, but when I fire it programmatically with fireEvent on any child input, nothing happens. The basic setup is: html <div id="listener"> <input type="text" id="color" class="color" /> ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????</div>??????????? js $("listener").addEvent("change:relay(.color)", function() { alert("changed!!"); }); $("color").fireEvent("change"); // nothing happens The event handler on the parent div does not get called.   Hi, It will get a error to define a dtd as follow: <!ELEMENT line (property*)> <!ATTLIST line showType (1|?|+|*) "1" > The error: The name token is required in the enumerated type list for the "showType" attribute declaration. It seems the value can't be special characters,such as "?","+","*". To change the characters to Latin-1 characters, like "& #42;"(add a blank before '#') , get the same error.   If I am walking through an IEnumerable<T>, is there any way to get a new IEnumerable<T> representing the remaining items after the current one. For example, I would like to write an extension method IEnumerator<T>.Remaining(): IEnumerable<int> sequence = ... IEnumerator<int> enumerator = sequence.GetEnumerator(); if (enumerator.MoveNext() && enumerator.MoveNext()) { IEnumerable<int> rest = enumerator.Remaining(); // 'rest' would contain elements in 'sequence' start at the 3rd element } I'm thinking of the collection of a sort of singly-linked list, so there should be a way to represent any remaining elements, right? I don't see any way to do this exposed on either IEnumerable<T> or IEnumerator<T>, so maybe it's incompatible with the notion of a potentially unbounded, nondeterministic sequence of elements.

  I am using an AXObserver to monitor when a window is closed. In the callback, I am just raising an NSNotification. All working well. What is the correct syntax for attaching some user data as refcon? The working call looks like this: err6 = AXObserverAddNotification(observerTable, tableRef, kAXUIElementDestroyedNotification, nil); and the callback specified when I create the observer has the signature: static void cbTableClosed (AXObserverRef observer, AXUIElementRef element, CFStringRef notification, void *refcon) I want to replace refcon with an object of my own, but don't know how to change either line. The obvious objective-c type changes through up warnings.

• Complex jquery selction that also involves custom xml tags

  I want to write a select something like... #window_4 > content > p:eq(0) I think I have this correct, but I have a few selectors that are all similar but I can't test them all at once. Am I right in saying this is selecting an element, who is the fist p tag child of a content tag that is a child of a tag with id 'window_4' If I have gotten this wrong, can you give me some pointers. Would love to be able to simplify this code, I have more code selecting the tag I am after then actually doing stuff with them.

• Override bits of a CSS class while inline?

  I have an html img that is being styled by a CSS class. I would like to override the width and height values used in that class under some circumstances. I'm building this img tag using something called a TagBuilder class, provided by Microsoft for the .Net system, which allows developers to assign attributes to an html element. In this case a CSS class has been assigned to the img tag, and I can assign width and height attributes individually, but they're not taking precedence over the values set in the CSS class. My tag looks like this currently: <img alt="my link" class="static" height="240" id="StaticImage" src="http://imageserver.com/myImage.jpg" width="240"> The static CSS class has width and height values of 300 each, and as you can see I'm trying to override them with 240. It's not working in this instance but can I do it without a second CSS class?
