  • How do I fix the paths of my website?

    I have Joomla 2.5.7 in my client's server updated recently from 1.6 to 1.7. I did not make that site but I am responsible for it now. I prefer to make a site from zero. Now users area clicking on the menu options and when joomla send them to a meta-url like http://iap.pa.gov.br/acervo they get the message 404 The requested URL /acervo was not found on this server. Would that be because they moved joomla folder from the root to root/iap (name of the site)? If it is, what is the configuration to adapt to that new folder?

  • Is there any Google Adsense revenue if a visitor rolls over (hovers) on an ad unit?

    I have noticed an increase in interactive flash animations especilly on 300px wide adsense ads. Many of them ask the visitor to rollover to either reveal what the ad is about, show a clip, etc. So I wonder: the visitor is giving attention to this ad, is viewing its message -- without clicking on it. In essence, the ad agency's objective is accomplished without a click, which would be a significant money saver if PPC is considered. This seems very ingenious on their part, and I wonder how this is handled by Google. Shouldn't there be a fee for a publisher if visitors interact with ads, regardless of clicks? CTR becomes irrelevant in this context. Are you aware of anything being discussed in this respect?

We've been looking around for a while for an eCommerce platform made to live between the header and footer for integrating in an existing site. We would prefer it not to be paypal buttons, but an actual CMS type platform. Any suggestions? This is not a duplicate, and is a valid question sought out by many across the web. I load it from iphone safari and it works fine. I then stop the server and load it again, and it works, because the offline cache is doing its job. However... if I save the website as a start icon in the iphone dashboard, and then I try to open it with the server stopped it won't load. However... if I open it with the server running at least once (it will work) then I can open it later without problem. It looks like even though the page was cached in safari, it is not cached in this saved app. Anybody knows how to get around this? Thank you!

  • With Google DFP (Small Business) is it possible to disable AdSense in an Ad Slot on a per-request basis?

    Setup: I run a network of websites that target different hobby niches and have a section dedicated to community classifieds. I serve advertising on these sites through Google DFP for Small Business with AdSense enabled on the slots. Problem: One of the next sites in my network will be targeting the firearms/shooting industry and as such the classifieds section will not comply with the prohibited content guidelines of AdSense regarding the sale (or coordination of sale) of weapons. I work very hard to comply with the guidelines of my partners even if I don't understand/agree with them and after talking with many people have decided that the best option is to disable AdSense serving on that section of that website, while leaving it on for the rest of the network. Solution: Right now my only idea for this is to duplicate all my site's ad slots and tack a "_sensitive" onto the end of each one (eg. header and header_sensitive) conditionally registering ad slots based on whether or not I am in the sensitive section of the sensitive site. My hope however is that there may be a way to accomplish this without duplicating all my ad slots possibly with some sort of options to the GA_googleFillSlot() call that allows me to say "load ads from this slot but do not serve AdSense no matter what."

    I have a jobs website. There are categories and sub categories e.g the url for builders is www.mydomain.com/jobs/all/active/202/tradesmen/799/builders/county/all Because of the framework im using (Elgg), the "all" and "active" come after the plugin name. Also, i need to do a lot of things with the url: get the pplugin (job), get the correct type of entities (all and active), get the category (202 and tradesmen), get the subcategory (799 & builders) and get the location (county and all). Is this URL seo friendly or is it too messy? Is something like www.mydomain.com/jobs/tradesmen/builders/all better?

  • One subdomain is not working

    Hello there, My main domain works just fine - www.example.com and a subdomain set up by another developer works as well - sub1.example.com. But when I try to set another subdomain up I go through the process everything seems to work. The software creates the default files where the subdomain files should go. But when I try to browse there it doesn't work. My host uses Plesk to do all of the hosting stuff. What do you think the problem is? I doubt it is some sort of cache issue because I had problems on my phone which I tried after problems on the pc. Maybe for some reason Plesk needs time to set this up? I have used Cpanel before and that works instantly.

    Is there a way to get the grouped list of events (such as in Top events) which were triggered on pages matching a regular expression? I may add the Page secondary dimension in Top events and apply the regex filter but this way I won't get a grouped list. I may apply the filter to Events - Pages report but this way the events will be grouped only inside pages whilst I need global grouping. Any suggestions?

    Hello I'm trying to make some kind of tool for an school website, what I need to do is to make students take a test and according to what are the results (27 posibilities) they get a set of activities (questions) according to their level which they can solve in around 3 months logging periodically to the website, plus I need teachers to log and look at the reports. Now, I'm a graphic designer myself so my skills are mostly html5 and css3 and I know some php (edit existing ones only) and javascript (jquery) as well, most people tell me that I need a CMS to do the tool but all I find is CMS for display like blogs or news websites which I think aren't useful for me because the website is already made in html and css3 only (I need to add an extra page for the tool) I understand I need to create users and give them special rights according to what type of user they are and I also understand that I need a database where I can store all my questions. What is the best way to do this? what do you suggest me? Thanks

  • A record not resolving

    I have a hosted domain at siteground. On this domain & host I have a subdomain with a wordpress install. I wish to move this blog to another host (hostgator), while keeping the domain with siteground. To do this I created a hosting account at hostgator, got it's ip address and set the A record in siteground's cpanel accordingly: subdomain.example.com 14400 A (ip of hostgator account) Going by this online traceroute tool the records appear to have been updated (over 4 hours ago now) as it now resolves to a theplanet.com server location which hostgator use yet the subdomain is still not resolving from a web browser. The account at hostgator has been setup and is navigable via ip address/~accountname. What's going wrong here? I should add the relevant DNS record at hostgator side looks like this: subdomain.example.com 86400 IN SOA ns483.websitewelcome.com. subdomain.example.com 86400 IN NS ns1.siteground145.com. subdomain.example.com 86400 IN NS ns2.siteground145.com. subdomain.example.com 14400 IN A 74.54.176.3 I'm not sure if the hostgator record should be classed as the SOA record but I don't know enough about it to be sure. Is this the source of the problem?

    I've recently moved from server with php4 to php5. Now I cant open content in my page. Links look like this "page.com/news-it-is-rainy-day-1.html". But when I try to open link I just get the archive (news.html). I also use smarty template engine.   • Upgrading Blog to WordPress, keep old one or redirect?

    I have had a blog for around 4 years now that has gained some success and gets tons of residual and organic traffic. I am using an outdated version of BlogEngine.NET and we are going to switch to WordPress. Currently, our blog is at ourwebsite.com/blog, and I don't really want to mess with our web server. I setup a new server just for WordPress and instead of dealing with proxies and things that are above my head, the new blog will be at blog.oursite.com. I am trying to figure out the best way to go about doing this. We value our search engine rankings very much so, as that is where 90% of our traffic comes from. Would I be best off: Importing all of the old blog posts from oursite.com/blog to blog.oursite.com and then redirecting all of the articles, categories, authors, pages and tags to the new blog and giving up the direct links to our current site. Keeping all of our current articles as they are, and only add new content to the new blog.oursite.com and just kind of let the old blog float around our site.

  • Get exact time of each click - AdWords

    I have an AdWords campaign running and want to get a list with all clicks and the exact time the click occured. And I want to do this without having a tracking code on my homepage. So it needs to be via the API (AdWords/Analytics). You might think know that this is not possible. But big Bid Management tools (e.g. Kenshoo) know all details of every click and they don't have tracking code of my website (only on the success page of my contact form). How is that possible? The dimensions in AdWords only let me group the clicks at the hour level.

    Does the user agent in any regular browser contain 'bot' or 'crawl'? I check the user agent on my site to see if it is coming from a bot or not. If it is, I can do some little optimizations since they don't login. (I don't change the content at all) After adding checks for 30-40+ bots, I'm getting tired of added them. So I was wondering if checking if it just contains 'bot' or 'crawl'. I know that wont get all bots, but it would get a lot of them. But if that could cause any false positives, then it would totally mess up the ability to add to cart, place an order, and login in.

I am still working on this but not getting proper guidance. This site is caching 2 times in 24Hrs. Some times sites will back in to top 10 search listing on 100s keywords, some time its gone out 1000+. anybody can help me why its happening. Rather than having load of categories like, for example, Builder, Electrician, Carpenter etc, we would like to have one word more general categories. So for example we have House, Computer, Education, Art etc. So a builder would be in category Home and a few others. Will this style negatively effect our SEO and ranking?   • What service or software should I use to serve advertising on a site with about 120k monthly page views?

    I have a site that is generating about 120k monthly page views and is being hosted on a shared FreeBSD server where I have access to PHP and MySQL. I am using some custom PHP server-side scripts that give each of my ad networks (AdSense, Tribal Fusion, etc) an adjustable percentage of impressions in each of the ad positions on my pages. I am looking for a better way of managing and measuring the delivery of these ads, and would also like to be able to take direct placements and provide statistics to the clients. I am looking at options including OpenX self-hosted, OpenX community, and Google DoubleClick for Publishers Small Business (DFP), but am having difficulty determining which one will best meet my needs. They all seem to have pretty steep learning curves compared to my simple scripts. What I have taken away so far as the benefit of self-hosting is that I don't have to pay for the service if I exceed a maximum number of ad impressions, while both OpenX Community and DFP have free impression limits. Of course, if I was doing those kind of numbers I'd need to upgrade my hosting account, but I'm not sure even at that point whether it would be cheaper to serve the ads myself than pay for a premium service. Apart from this, I really need insights into what features differentiate these services, why I might want to choose one over another, and if there are any other competing products or service of the same quality that I should look into. Answers from webmasters who have used both (or all three) services and can talk to usability and ease of ad management would be highly appreciated.

    I need to edit thousands of pages for a website with dynamic content added manually by the owner throughout 3 years, it has thousands of pages and I'm sure there is a better way to edit them without spending hours opening each one of them. I know it would be easy to just edit the styles.css but page dynamics like the positions of the google ad-boxes are individually edited inside the html of each page, so there is no way to solve this through css. For example Purpose of Website: (sell products, reduce number of enquires, reduce work load, etc) Do you have you’re an existing logo? (can you send it via email) Do you have a preferred font for the website text? Do you have a colour theme for your logo, business cards, shop you would like to keep on the website Do you have photos you can provide of your Products? etc Ofcause it would need to be tweaked slightly for each customer but I was looking for a generic document as a baseline.
