  Hello, I am interested in theory to scale web applications in a distributed nature, i.e. when there is some platform/stack can be extended by others applications running on different servers, etc. I am researching this field and feels the lack of the right keywords :) Interesting concepts found so far: opensocial through API, like shopify does (shopify it's a hosted ecommerce solution) semantic web not quite sure about this one Am I on the right way or am I lost anything? :) Thanks.

• JMeter - successfull HTTPS recording?

  Greetings, I'm utilizing Jmeter 2.3, which now supports "attempt HTTPS spoofing" under the Proxy Server element. I've tried on several different servers, and have had no success. Has anyone been able to successfully record from an HTTPS source with this setting? Or barring successfully recording, can anyone share a work-around? When available, I simply have HTTPS turned off at the server level, but this is not always feasible. THoughts?

• Content area not expanding with the content within it!

  I have been coding a design I had been working on for a week or so and have core across a snag. While doing the HTML/CSS of one of my right column modules the content within it expands however the bg and bordered area it is within does not. htttp://www.gamefriction.com/Coded/ (url with example) http://www.gamefriction.com/Coded/css/style.css (css stylesheet used on page) This website is purely HTML and CSS at this time all code can be viewed through the View Source option on all browsers. The area that is not working properly is the bullet links in the right module with the blue background that says "League Menu". The content above that will make the module background expand however the linked bullet menu will not.

• Branchless memory manager?

  Anyone thought about how to write a memory manager (in C++) that is completely branch free? I've written a pool, a stack, a queue, and a linked list (allocating from the pool), but I am wondering how plausible it is to write a branch free general memory manager. This is all to help make a really reusable framework for doing solid concurrent, in-order CPU, and cache friendly development. Edit: by branchless I mean without doing direct or indirect function calls, and without using ifs. I've been thinking that I can probably implement something that first changes the requested size to zero for false calls, but haven't really got much more than that. I feel that it's not impossible, but the other aspect of this exercise is then profiling it on said "unfriendly" processors to see if it's worth trying as hard as this to avoid branching.

  I have two custom lists in sharepoint with a one to many relationship on a column in both lists. So list A has text column 1 and list B has a lookup column 1' on list A's column 1. I want to display the rows in list A, where column 1 has a match on column 1' and a 2nd column in list B with a specific text string.   Jeff's recent article linked to a time management example of the First Fit Decreasing algorithm, which talked about the Pareto principle (or, the 80/20 rule) of time management, that is, that 80% of the work we produce in 20% of our time. Now we've all heard the programmer quote: The first 90% of the code accounts for the first 90% of the development time. The remaining 10% of the code accounts for the other 90% of the development time. But all jokes aside, it is often as if 20% of your code is to do what you want, and the other 80% is to handle exceptions... so does the 80/20 rule really apply to developers? Does anyone have any examples of why it does / does not apply to us?

  I currently have a crystal report that generating in Visual Studio 2005 which has a sub-report. I've linked the sub-report to dataset and dataset has one table call image and it contain column system.byte[]. main report link to another dataset . main report has parameters and sub report has only image field. but when run main report display data but sub report don't display. no error message. sub report dataset not pass data to report. anyone have any idea what might be causing the sub-reports to not work??

  I'd like to embed Mono into an .exe file but the problem is the license, because a LGPL library can only be linked with LGPL code. However, I'd like to build a commercial app, so I ask if is possible to use a stub that launches a DLL version of the Mono runtime and executes my app. Or do you know a better way to do this? I need a cross-platform framework and Mono seems good, but there are some problem to pack it in one file, so you know a "free" way to do this?

  I've got a structure which holds names and ages. I've made a linked-list of these structures, using this as a pointer: aNode *rootA; in my main. Now i send **rootA to a function like so addElement(5,"Drew",**rootA); Because i need to pass rootA by reference so that I can edit it in other functions (in my actual program i have two roots, so return will not work) The problem is, in my program, i can't say access the structure members. *rootA->age = 4; for example doesnt work. Hopefully you guys can help me out. Thanks!

However, I've been unable to find a good example of dynamically spawning servers that are not registered (not named). Can someone point to a good, simple example?   Hi everyone, I'm new to SQL Server reporting services, and am trying to decipher an existing report. It's nothing too bad, but I notice it does have two report datasets defined. (They are generated via separate stored procedures) I'm trying to figure out where and how the report datasets are linked together so the Fields collection has both sets of columns available and the report has a single rowset to traverse. Is there a section in the report layout where a joining of datasets is defined? I'm using Visual Studio 2005 to design and preview the report fwiw. Thanks for your help!

• Huge CPU usage difference for the same .NET 4 program on different machines

  I have two servers, one running core i7 920 (8 logic CPUs at 2.8Ghz), the other running Xeon X3430 (4 logic CPUs at 2.4Ghz). For the same .NET 4 application, CPU usage on the first machine is 6%; on the second machine it is 50%! I wonder what makes this huge difference. And how can I diagnose the cause of the issue?

  The problem is: Android doesn't implement javax.sound.midi. I need a simple free library that allows me to create simple 1-track midi files. I searched the net for it, but can't really find anything, since everything uses javax.sound.midi . The license needs to be one where I don't need to opensource my linked app. Any ideas? I also looked into the fileformat itself. However, I am totally not familiar with working with bytes, hexidecimal stuff etc. So, other option is: are there any simple midi implementations that I can use as reference?

• Stop Images from loading in UIWebView

  I have a website that I wish to load in a UIWebView, but it is full of images and takes ages to load. The images are useless, and only serve to reduce the usability on the iPhone. I dont own the website so I cannot change the site's actual code. The webpage is heavily linked in to the web with ASP.NET and AJAX (needs external files), so i dont think it is possible to have it load an HTML string. I want to stop the images from loading altogether. So how do i block them? Change the HTML code as its loading somehow, or block images from being loaded?

• ScrollTo - toggle between min-height/fixed height

  Hi everyone, I'm trying to use the ScrollTo plugin, but I can't seem to get it working properly. I tried to view the source at the site I linked to but I'm trying to achieve something slightly different. I would like the window pane to change size according to the content (so the height would increase for longer text and would decrease for shorter text). However, when I supply a min-height (as opposed to a fixed height), the pane automatically changes to the maximum height when the page is loaded. So if I have something set to margin-top:1000px;, the pane will be 1000px in size regardless of what tab is currently displaying. The fix would be to use height instead, but that would mean that the window won't expand in height and the user would have to scroll. I got my code from viewing the source on the ScrollTo page, but I also tried this tutorial code. Thanks for any help

• Sencha Touch 2: List does not display in Panel

  I am working on an MVC app in Sencha Touch 2 and am having trouble getting a list to display in a nested panel. The structure of the app has a main view which is a tab panel. One of the items in the tab panel is a defined panel, xtype: 'homepanel'. An item in this panel is the list, xtype: 'newslist' that is linked to the appropriate store and model files. The list does not display unless I change its parent 'homepanel' to a type, Ext.navigation.View. What am I missing in the definition of 'homepanel' as a Panel that prevents the display of the list?   Hi All, I'm looking for a generic "Row Picker" for JQuery. We've all seen the cool "Picker" tools like date pickers, color pickers, time pickers, etc, where you click in a text box and a little calendar or color palate or clock or something comes up. You select something (like a date) and the text box is then populated with a value. I really need an all-purpose "row picker" where you can populate something (a table, divs, etc) with some rows of data (say a list of timezones). This would be linked to a text field and would pop up when the user clicks in the field. They would click a row (say a timezone), and the timezone id would be passed back to the field. Anyone know of anything that does this? Thanks!

  I am building a web application in which I would like to include the user's LinkedIn profile page feeds. Is this possible? What I envision is the user comes to the web application and adds the complete URL for their Linked user profile in a text box and I would get the feeds for that user page. Would it be possible to do this with jquery? Or should I be looking at some other tool? I trying to make it more clear, I want to create a widget kinda of app for my web app where user enters a complete url of the linkedin user profile page and I have to retrieve the feeds of that particular user and display it. It should be dynamic in nature, if another user enters a another url into the text box I should be able to get the feeds from that particular user profile page.

  Hello, are all "Standard Compliant (HTTP RFC?)" Web-Servers forced to "somehow" provide some methods to get all Parameters with the same name as some kind of list/array? Or will will using the same parameter name lead to overwriting: Example: http://www.stackoverflow?myparam=value1&myparam=value2 Will this lead to myparam holding the values "value1,value2" or only "value2" (due to overwriting and only using the last one). • Best way to implement keywords for image upload gallery

  I'm starting to spec out an image gallery type system similar to Facebook's. Members of the site will be able to create image galleries and upload images for others to view. Images will have keywords the the uploader can specify. Here's the question, what's the best way to model this? With image and keyword tables linked vi a HABTM relation? Or a single image table with the keywords saved as comma delimited values in a text field in the image record? Then search them using a LIKE or FULL TEXT index function? I want to be able to pull up all images containing a given keyword as well as generate a keyword cloud. I'm leaning toward the HABTM setup but I wanted to see what everyone else though. Thanks!!
