  I am currently programming a Visual C# service to receive emails from various sources then I take certain info and organize it in a database using Regex to retrieve the deferent cell values (such as header, body, problem, cost, etc.etc.). My problem is that I am currently using a Hotmail account to email the service which the service then extracts data and writes it to a csv file; however this is all going fine an dandy except for the fact that the text is formated so when there is a "\n" or something of the sort, the program decides to not input the data that follows that into the cell. • iPad receiving memory warning with low memory use

  I have an UIWebKit with a HTML, this HTML have several images and text, but just displaying it gives me the memory warning. So I did some tests: The same HTML with different images, fullsize, and after the same images but reduced 50% from it's original size, for the 50% reduced images, I went to preview and reduced all images in 50% The surprising part is the 50% test, you can see that even with 16 images, the memory peak is 4.90MB. That's really surprising. Notice that these values are not always the same, they change but there's not a huge difference between the tests.   Hi All, I know the similar question may have been asked many times, but I want to represent the behavior I'm seeing and find if somebody can help predict the cause of this. I am writing a windows service which connects to other windows service over TCP. There are 100 user entities of this, and 5 connections per each. These users perform their tasks using their individual connections. The application goes on withough seeing this problem for 1 or 2 days. Or sometimes show the problem right after starting (-rarely). The best run I had was like 4 to 5 days without showing this exception. And after that application died or I had to stop it for various reasons. I want to know what can be causing this?   When I open .doc file in Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 and MathType 6 installed I get "U" in all formulas instead of "v". The original file was made in MSWord 2003 for Windows with MathType 6. But when I click and open the formula in MathType 6 and then save it back I get correct formula as it was originally written with "v". • Best Youtube embed player sizes?

  I use tumblr to share videos and, unfortunately, when re-posting a video to your tumblelog it uses the embed code at 400x336px. This is neither widescreen nor very large. So I'm trying to set the player to better size and I'm finding that the youtube player really comes in many sizes. For example, when copying the embed code for and HD video I get the sizes 560x340, 640x385, and 853x505. Then when I look at the embed code for a SD video I get the sizes 425x344, 480x385, and 640x505. I was having the best luck with setting the player to 640 x 505 as it was large enough for HD and perfect for SD. print str_replace( array('400', '336'), array('640', '505'), $video_player_html); Has anyone dealt with trying to find a good standard embed size for a site? One thing that would make this a lot easier is to know whether the video was HD or not - however, that info is not provided in the embed code. I guess I am actually more interested in knowing the right ratio (or specific size) to use that works the best for youtube's mixed content.

• Advice using leaks in instruments for noobs

  Hello I am pretty new to iphone development. I have run my app for the first time using the "Leaks" from "Instruments". It shows me several leaks around 20 the smallest is 32 bytes and there is one with 1KB. I have followed the memory management guidelines, (i (think i) understand how and when to use release, not to use it when adding to autorelease pools, for every copy, retain, init there should be a release,... etc). I don't think I understand the output of the Leaks in instruments. What does "Responsible library" and "Responsible frame" mean. Because there are some classes and methods i never used directly. Are there any good tutorials for debugging memory leaks in instruments or other advice you can give me regarding leaks. Thanks in advance. Here are the largest 2 leaks. • Ext-GWT / GXT (Not So) Simple Layout Issue?

  Hi all, I have posted this question on the Ext-GWT forums, I am just hoping that someone here might have an answer for me! I am struggling to do something I initially thought was simple but am beginning to believe is impossible... I have got a "layout template" of sorts - simply consisting of a few GWT DockLayoutPanel's within each other and finally ending in LayoutPanels. GWT's LayoutPanel is designed to size the widget (or Composite) that's added to it to its full size and does so perfectly with pure GWT widgets. The idea of my "layout template" is that I don't know the EXACT height and width of the very inner LayoutPanel's because I may set certain panels sizes (of the outer DockLayoutPanels) differently when instantiating this template. All I would like is to add a Grid component to one of the inner most LayoutPanels and have it size itself (height AND width) to fit as normal GWT widgets do (works perfectly with a GWT Label for instance). I am VERY new to GXT (as in I started using it earlier today) and I do realize that GXT builds its Components differently to the way GWT builds its Widgets on the DOM. Is there anyway to achieve the desired result? I have tried adding the grid to a ContentPanel with a Layout of FitLayout, I have tried AnchorLayout, I have tried adding the grid directly... Nothing seems to work... Any advice or even a push in the right direction would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Xandel

• Help with inner content box margins/padding

  I am working on a layout for a new site, and I'm having some trouble achieving what I want with the CSS. First of all, I want everything to always stay within the view of the current browser window, with scroll being in my content and not the browser itself. I have an outermost DIV which acts as my "wrapper" for the site displayed centered, with a set width, and having 100% height of the bowser window. Inside of this I place a header and all of this works as intended in all interested browsers. However, once I place my actual content DIV inside this "wrapper" I am unable to define it to be the size I want. If I simply give it margins or padding to make up for the header I have absolutely positioned, the content will overflow and I can't set scroll. And if I try to set the size directly, there are no values I can put in that will work since the margins/padding will add to the size and it will now be bigger than the current browser window, and overflow. Are there any styles people can think of I can use on the wrapper/content DIV(s) to get the desired look? Here is a diagram illustrating the look I want.

• Collision Attacks, Message Digests and a Possible solution

  I've been doing some preliminary research in the area of message digests. Specifically collision attacks of cryptographic hash functions such as MD5 and SHA-1, such as the Postscript example and X.509 certificate duplicate. From what I can tell in the case of the postscript attack, specific data was generated and embedded within the header of the postscript (which is ignored during rendering) which brought about the internal state of the md5 to a state such that the modified wording of the document would lead to a final MD equivalent to the original. The X.509 took a similar approach where by data was injected within the comment/whitespace of the certificate. Ok so here is my question, and I can't seem to find anyone asking this question: Why isn't the length of ONLY the data being consumed added as a final block to the MD calculation? In the case of X.509 - Why is the whitespace and comments being taken into account as part of the MD? Wouldn't a simple processes such as one of the following be enough to resolve the proposed collision attacks: MD(M + |M|) = xyz MD(M + |M| + |M| * magicseed_0 +...+ |M| * magicseed_n) = xyz where : M : is the message |M| : size of the message MD : is the message digest function (eg: md5, sha, whirlpool etc) xyz : is the acutal message digest value for the message M magicseed_{i}: Is a set random values generated with seed based on the internal-state prior to the size being added. This technqiue should work, as to date all such collision attacks rely on adding more data to the original message. In short, the level of difficulty involved in generating a collision message such that: It not only generates the same MD But is also comprehensible/parsible/compliant and is also the same size as the original message, is immensely difficult if not near impossible. Has this approach ever been discussed? Any links to papers etc would be nice.

• What are some Java memory management best practices?

  I am taking over some applications from a previous developer. When I run the applications through Eclipse, I see the memory usage and the heap size increase a lot. Upon further investigation, I see that they were creating an object over-and-over in a loop as well as other things. I started to go through and do some clean up. But the more I went through, the more questions I had like "will this actually do anything?" For example, instead of declaring a variable outside the loop mentioned above and just setting its value in the loop... they created the object in the loop. What I mean is: for(int i=0; i < arrayOfStuff.size(); i++) { String something = (String) arrayOfStuff.get(i); ... } versus String something = null; for(int i=0; i < arrayOfStuff.size(); i++) { something = (String) arrayOfStuff.get(i); } Am I incorrect to say that the bottom loop is better? Perhaps I am wrong. Also, what about after the second loop above, I set "something" back to null? Would that clear out some memory? In either case, what are some good memory management best practices I could follow that will help keep my memory usage low in my applications? Update: I appreciate everyones feedback so far. However, I was not really asking about the above loops (although by your advice I did go back to the first loop). I am trying to get some best practices that I can keep an eye out for. Something on the lines of "when you are done using a Collection, clear it out". I just really need to make sure not as much memory is being taken up by these applications.

• Make Python Socket Server More Efficient

  I have very little experience working with sockets and multithreaded programming so to learn more I decided to see if I could hack together a little python socket server to power a chat room. I ended up getting it working pretty well but then I noticed my server's CPU usage spiked up over 100% when I had it running in the background.   I'm trying to batch rename some files using the 'rename' utility. Unfortunately, the file names contain apostrophes, and it's messing things up. I'm not sure how to proceed.   Hi, I've hit an annoying problem in LaTeX. I've got a tex file of about 1000 lines. I've already got a few figures, but when I try to add another figure, It barfs with: ! • Problem using Hibernate-Search

  Hi, I am using hibernate search for my application. It is well configured and running perfectly till some time back, when it stopped working suddenly. The reason according to me being the number of my model (bean) classes. I have some 90 classes, which I add to my configuration, while building my Hibernate Configuration. When, I disable hibernate search (remove the search annotations and use Configuration instead of AnnotationsConfiguration), I try to start my application, it Works fine. But,the same app when I enable search, it just hangs up. I tried debugging and found the exact place where it hangs. After adding all the class to my AnnotationsConfiguration object, when I say cfg.buildSessionfactory(), It never comes out of that statement. (I have waited for hours!!!) Also when I decrease the number of my model classes (like say to half i.e. 50) it comes out of that statement and the application works fine.. Can Someone tell why is this happening?? My versions of hibernate are: hibernate-core-3.3.1.GA.jar hibernate-annotations-3.4.0.GA.jar hibernate-commons-annotations-3.1.0.GA.jar hibernate-search-3.1.0.GA.jar Also if need to avoid using AnnotationsConfiguration, I read that I need to configure the search event listeners explicitly.. can anyone list all the neccessary listeners and their respective classes? As long as I don't delete the last remaining row, everything works fine, but as soon as I delete this one, I get an ArrayOutOfBoundsException. Everything else should only be accessibly via http://localhost/ for various privacy/security reasons. It is just a test server, don't want just anybody accessing my large batch files. How would you go about allowing only certain select files access to the internet and making everything else available only via http://localhost/?

  Can I user mono's AOT feature to natively "pre-compile" .NET DLLs (and or EXEs) to make them harder to reverse engineer? If so, how do I get mono/AOT working in Windows 7? (I'm running x64 but the app is targeting x86 explicitly.) I just installed Mono 2.6.3 and MinGW 5.1.6 and I'm trying to AOT compile an exe (or a dll, it doesn't matter). • iPhone - UIImage imageScaledToSize Memory Issue

  I have done research and tried several times to release the UIImage memory and have been unsuccessful. I saw one other post on the internet where someone else was having this same issue. Everytime imageScaledToSize is called, the ObjectAlloc continues to climb. In the following code I am pulling a local image from my resource directory and resizing it with some blur. Can someone provide some help on how to release the memory of the UIImages called....scaledImage and labelImage. This is the chunk of code where the iPhone Intruments has shown to have the ObjectAlloc build up.
