• Django: ordering numerical value with order_by

  I'm in a situation where I must output a quite large list of objects by a CharField used to store street addresses. My problem is, that obviously the data is ordered by ASCII codes since it's a Charfield, with the predictable results .. it sort the numbers like this; 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 2, 20, 21.... Now the obvious step would be to change the Charfield the proper field type (IntegerField let's say), however it cannot work since some address might have apartments .. like "128A". I really don't know how I can order this properly ..

• Some help needed with a SQL query

  Hello, I need some help with a MySQL query. I have two tables, one with offers and one with statuses. An offer can has one or more statuses. What I would like to do is get all the offers and their latest status. For each status there's a table field named 'added' which can be used for sorting. I know this can be easily done with two queries, but I need to make it with only one because I also have to apply some filters later in the project. When I do this, obviously it will break outside links to the post that is named http://www.blog.com/?p=2. All others are 8 bit data bytes. On my system, which is little endian, how would the data be received and stored? Lets say, we are configured to receive 8 bytes at a time. RxBuff is the Rx buffer where data will be received. Buff is the storage buffer where data would be stored. Please point out which case is correct for data storage after reading 8 bytes at a time: 1) Buff[] = {0x34, 0x67, 0x45, 0x89, 0x90, 0xAB....... 0x00}; 2) Buff[] = {0x00, 0x00, .......0x67, 0x89, 0x45, 0x34}; Would the whole 16 bytes data be reversed or only the 2 bytes value contained in this packet?

• jQuery - How do I make the menu fadeout when the user clicks anywhere else in the document besides the menu itself?

  Hi, I have a link that functions similar to a drop down menu in that it fades in a list of links below it when clicked. Currently, the list fades back out when the link is clicked again, but I'd like for it to also fade out if the user clicks elsewhere on the page. I'm not sure how to add the $(document).click(function()... that handles this, or if this is even the right approach.   Having trouble with AR 2.3.5, e.g.: users = User.all( :select => "u.id, c.user_id", :from => "users u, connections c", :conditions => ... ) Returns, e.g.: => [#<User id: 1000>] >> users.first.attributes => {"id"=>1000, "user_id"=>"1000"} Note that AR returns the id of the model searched as numeric but the selected user_id of the joined model as a String, although both are int(11) in the database schema. How could I better form this type of query to select columns of tables backing multiple models and retrieving their natural type rather than String ? Seems like AR is punting on this somewhere. How could I coerce the returned types at AR load time and not have to tack .to_i (etc.) onto every post-hoc access?

• How to make a swing app aware of screen size change?

  Hi, while my swing app is running I change the size of the screen (e.g. from 1024x768 to 800x600). Is there any event I can listen to to be notified about this? Alternatively I could check the screen size in every couple of second, but the Toolkit.getScreenSize() keeps telling me the old value. How could I get the real screen size after the change? Environment: Linux (tested on SuSE ES 11 and Ubuntu 9.04) I appreciate your help. Marton

  in Python, given an n x p matrix, e.g. 4 x 4, how can I return a matrix that's 4 x 2 that simply averages the first two columns and the last two columns for all 4 rows of the matrix? e.g. given: a = array([[1, 2, 3, 4], [5, 6, 7, 8], [9, 10, 11, 12], [13, 14, 15, 16]]) return a matrix that has the average of a[:, 0] and a[:, 1] and the average of a[:, 2] and a[:, 3]. I want this to work for an arbitrary matrix of n x p assuming that the number of columns I am averaging of n is obviously evenly divisible by n. let me clarify: for each row, I want to take the average of the first two columns, then the average of the last two columns. So it would be: 1 + 2 / 2, 3 + 4 / 2 <- row 1 of new matrix 5 + 6 / 2, 7 + 8 / 2 <- row 2 of new matrix, etc. which should yield a 4 by 2 matrix rather than 4 x 4. thanks.

• Compiling error with API 10

  I was following the basic tutorials on developers.android.com and came by creating the activity named DisplayMessageActivity. It is a blank activity with all the specifications given as shown in the tutorial. FYI, I am using Min SDK = API 8, Target SDK = API 16, Compile with = API 10 The next thing is that there are two errors: "The method getActionBar() is undefined for the type DisplayMessageActivity "home cannot be resolved or is not a field" I tried changing the API to 14 which called for another problem, it wants the minimum API to be 11. That solves these problems, but the main problem is so many devices still use Gingerbread or maybe FroYo. Can't I write for them? Do I have to go higher? How to write for them?

I need to get the element of Arr1 corresponding to maximum of elements in Arr2 beginning with given indices ... e.g Get indices of the max of Arr2 [ 1 , 10 , 3 , i , j ] for all i,j Return Arr1 [ 1 , 10 , 3 , i , j ] Of course I need the elegant solution (not the "loop for them" one...) • What is the best way to make a game timer in Actionscript 3?

  I have built an online game system that depends on a timer that records how long it took a player to complete a challenge. It needs to be accurate to the millisecond. Their time is stored in a SQL database. The problem is that when I use the Timer class, some players are ending up getting scores in the database of less than a second. (which is impossible, as most challenges would take at least 11 seconds to complete even in a perfect situation.) What I have found is that if a player has too many browser windows open, and/or a slow computer, the flash game slows down actually affecting the timer speed itself. The timer is 'spinning' on screen so you can physically see the numbers slowing down. It is frustrating that I cannot just open a second thread or do something to allow flash to keep accurate time regardless of whatever else is going on in the program. Any ideas?

I would like to replace these with meaningful data as follow If(1 OR 6 OR 10 OR 14 OR 18 OR 22 OR 26) should be replaced with UL. If(3 OR 7 OR 11 OR 15 OR 19 OR 23 OR 27) should be replaced with LL.   Hiya, Basically I have a table which is used to hold employee work wear details. It is formed of the columns: EmployeeID, CostCentre, AssociateLevel, IssueDate, TrouserSize, TrouserLength, TopSize & ShoeSize. An employee can be assigned a pair of trousers, a top and shoes at the same time or only one or two pieces of clothing. As we all know sepeoples sizes and employee levels can change which is why I need help really. I need to be able to select the most recent clothes size and associate level for each item of clothing for each employee. So for example if employee '54664LSS' was given a pair of 'XL' trousers and a 'L' top on 24/03/11 but then received a 'M' top on 26/05/10. Then the values of the 'M' sized top and the 'L' sized trousers would need to be returned. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm pretty stuck :(. Thanks.
