• Getting started with Android code samples - permissions error

  New to android. Running Eclipse on Ubuntu 9.10 with Android SDK plugin installed and working. Trying to get some code samples from http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/get.html , and following its procedure to load said samples in Eclipse yields: Parent of resource: /home/user/android-sdk/platforms/android-4/samples/Notepad/.project is marked as read-only. chmod is not recursive, so I entered ~/android-sdk/platforms and "chmod 777 *" ie. all folders in /platforms. Still doesnt work. Appears to be be a bug in Eclipse that wants to create the project in the SDK folder rather than under ~/workspace.

• Project hosting on Google Code. Files are cahced?

  I do not really understand how Google Code handles file versioning. I am building a jQuery plugin that anyone can access. Like so: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://jquery-old-browser-warning.googlecode.com/files/jquery.browser-warning.js"></script> This script accesses other files on the same project (via ajax). The problem is, that when I upload a new file, it just seems like there aren't any changed to it. Google recommends that new files should have new names. But then I would have to change the filenames that the script loads. But then I would have to change the script file as well, and that would break everybodys implementation (with the script-tag above) Is there a way to force a file to change when uploading with the same filename? PS: If I go directly to the project page's file list. Then I do get the file with the updated content. But as I said, not when getting it through ajax.

• Is there an easy way to do click-and-drag scrolling in text frames?

  I have a div with overflow:auto and a scroll bar, and I'd like to be able to drag the contents to scroll. I don't need to be able to select text. Is there an easy way to do this? A jQuery plugin would be good, otherwise plain old JavaScript would be fine. It seems I haven't made myself clear enough. There's a div with a fixed height that I want to scroll. Instead of picking up the scroll bar, I want to click and drag inside the text in the opposite direction. Like on an iPhone. • How to conditionalize GUI tests using Netbeans/Maven vs maven on command line invocation

  I'd like to have a single project pom but have my GUI tests always run when I'm invoking JUnit on Netbeans, but have them conditional (on an environment variable?) when building on the command line (usually for production build - on a headless machine, but sometimes just for build speed). I don't mind instrumenting my JUnit tests for this, as I already have to set up my GUI test infrastructure, but how do I conditionalize my pom! Netbeans 6.5 with Maven plugin. • Generate a collection of changed lines between two revisions of a file using Java

  I am writing an eclipse plugin which needs to be able to determine which lines of a file have changed compared to a different version of the same file. Is there an existing class or library which I can use for this task? The closest I have found is org.eclipse.compare.internal.merge.DocumentMerger. This can be used to find the information I need but is in an internal package so is not suitable for me to use. I could copy/paste the source of this class and adapt it to my requirements. However, I am hoping there is an existing library to handle textual comparisons.

• How to store and access JSON data for a site?

  I'm buiding an HTML/jQuery site where almost all the content comes from remote JSON data. I'm having trouble coming up with a good way to store and access the data in the future (scope-wise). Currently, I've written a jQuery plugin that gets the JSONP data when the site loads. But I have other functions and jQuery plugins that need to access this data. Where should this data be stored so other functions and plugins can access it? Should it be a global variable? If it matters, this site will only run on the iPad and the back-end of the site is in Rails.

• In Visual Studio 2008, how can I make control+click do a "Go To Definition"?

  I know this is not strictly about programming, but it's pretty close. Anyway, in Delphi, you can hold control and click on a method to jump to its definition. In VS2008, you have to right-click and select "Go To Definition". I use this function quite often, so I'd really like to get VS to behave like delphi in this regard - its so much quicker to ctrl+click. I don't think there's a way to get this working in base VS2008 - am I wrong? Or maybe there's a plugin I could use? Edit: Click then F12 does work - but isn't really a good solution for me.. It's still way slower than ctrl+click. I might try AutoHotkey, since I'm already running it for something else. Edit: AutoHotkey worked for me. • Is it possible to optimize maven dependencies automatically?

  I am working on a big project that consists of about 40 sub-projects with very not optimized dependencies. There are declared dependencies that are not in use as well as used but undeclared dependencies. The second case is possible when dependency is added via other dependency. I want to remove redundant and add required dependencies. I ran mvn dependency:analyze and got a long list of warnings I have to fix now. I wonder whether there is maven plugin or any other utility that can update my pom.xml files automatically. I tried to do it manually but it takes a lot of time. It seems it will take a couple of days of copy/paste to complete the task. In worse case I can write such script myself but probably ready stuff exists? • Extending fluent nhibernate mappings in another assembly

  Hi, I'm using NHibernate with my ASP.Net MVC application. I'm writing some extensions (plugins) for my application. And I'm loading those plugin dynamically (from different assemblies). In my base application I have many entities and mappings defined (User, Group, etc...) I need to create new entities in my extensions, so i.e. I'm creating News module, so I need to create News mapping. In database News table has a foreign key to User table. Is there any way I can modify my User mapping, so it will have: HasMany(x => x.Courses) .KeyColumn("GroupId") .Inverse(); Or the only way to do it is to change code in my User class and recompile project ? I'm not NHibernate advanced user, so any help will be appreciated. TIA.

• Hudson + gitolite + virtual host on staging server

  I have a Ubuntu server which I want to be my continous integration server (for the Zend Application based projects) and the staging server as well. The team is pushing source files to the repository: /home/git/repositories/testing.git Then Hudson does the build, and the master branch is exported (maybe cloned is a better word) by git hudson plugin to: /var/lib/hudson/jobs/test/workspace/ The workspace contains .git folder as well, which is not necessary on my staging website. How do you set up virtual host to see the staging version of the content of the repository? Does the virtual host point to the workspace, or shall I export the files to another directory? What about the permissions and security? Hudson is the owner of all the workspace files. Do I have to do some post-build actions to set up access? P.S. If this question is more apropriate to serverfault, please migrate.

• How to avoid translation tools from messing up HTML tags?

  I always use Google translate and paste back the the results in Vim. But for some reason Google translate also screws up the HTML tags around the content I want to translate. Is there a solution for this? For instance, the double quotes are translated to Chinese-cased double quotes: 'pictures_h2'=>“?????????? Strong and li tags are translated too (well I kinda expected that). P S : IS there any translator which respect HTML tags? or translation plugin for Vim?

• Updating .class file in a jar throws exception

  I'm trying to port a wikimedia plugin to run on OpenVMS and needed to alter a class. I'm trying to update the .class file in the jar using jar uf jar-file .class-file, however when I do this I get the following: java.util.zip.ZipException: duplicate entry: META-INF/LICENSE.txt at java.util.zip.ZipOutputStream.putNextEntry(ZipOutputStream.java:175) at java.util.jar.JarOutputStream.putNextEntry(JarOutputStream.java:90) at sun.tools.jar.Main.update(Main.java:507) at sun.tools.jar.Main.run(Main.java:184) It turns out there are 2 LICENSE.txt files in the jar and I can't seem to get rid of them. Any ideas on how to just get the new .class file into the jar or how to get rid of the duplicate file?

• simple modification results in error

  When I tried to do a simple modification of the "hello android" program that eclipse adt plugin generates I get error and can't get the program to run again even if I restore the file to its original contents. The modification was that I changed a string in strings.xml. the line was: <string name="app_name">Todo List</string> and the app was runnable, then I changed it to <string name="app_name">Todo List1</string> and it was an error: [2010-04-21 23:18:03 - Todo_list] Error in an XML file: aborting build. And a new empty file also showed up called: strings.out.xml And then I can't get the prrogram back into runnable state even if I delete the empyt file and restore the original line, I'm a confused beginner of java, android and eclipse.

• How do I indent multiple lines at once in Notepad++?

  In many text editors that are aimed at programmers, if the user has a selection that spans more than 1 line and presses the TAB key, those lines are indented by 1 TAB (or a number of spaces, depending on how the editor is configured). However, this does not seem to be the default behavior of Notepad++. Is there a way I can do this in Notepad++, or is there a plugin that I can get to allow me to do this? Edit: Upon additional testing, shift-tab correctly un-indents the lines as expected, but only a tab simply inserts a tab wherever the carat is. This is in version 5.4.5 Unicode

• Is there a way to show a 3-D surface plot in the browser?

  I've got a bunch of data for 3-D surface plots. I want to build a quick web interface to let me browse through that data. Are there any (free) packages out there that can easily show surface plots? I found this question but the suggested libraries did not support surface plots. If it requires a plugin like flash / java that is fine. This is for prototyping so a quick 'n dirty solution is preferred. Right now, the only option I have come up with is to use gnuplot to serve up static images. It would be awesome if there was some way to provide an interactive 3-D surface plot in the browser.

• Specify artifact version outside of pom

  Is there a way to specify the artifact version outside of the POM file? I have 2 CI projects that build an artifact. One builds a "stable" development version from a 'develop' branch and the other builds an unstable version which is the result of merging all active feature branches into the develop branch. I want the stable version to build as xyz-1.0.jar and the integration build to go in as xyz-1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar. Is there a way for the CI job to run a maven task or specify via the command line if a release or snapshot jar should be built without manually modifying the POM? Currently I have the version specified as 1.0 in the pom. I considered using the release plugin but I don't want the automatic version number increase and tagging that it does.

• Finding latest release links on website for C++ Application

  Basically I have written a game plugin that will allow server admins to update their administration tools from within game rather than having to go download it and install it. The releases are updated regularly, and the beta versions are nightly builds. I am trying to find a way to grab the links from the website, but I cannot think of anyway to do this off of the top of my head. • Maintaining stored procedures in source control

  How do you guys maintain your stored procedures? I'd like to keep versions of them for a few different reasons. I also will be setting up cruisecontrol.net and nant this weekend to automate builds. I was thinking about coding something that would generate the create scripts for all tables/sprocs/udf/xml schemas in my development database. Then it would take those scripts and update them in source control every couple hours.... Ideally, I'd like to make this some sort of plugin/module for cruisecontrol.net. Any other ideas?

• Updates to Wordpress theme template/stylesheet are not reflected when a file is edited

  I am developing a theme in Wordpress. I have an issue where updates to my stylesheet (style.css) are not being reflected in the browser after FTPing a new version of the file to the server. Edits will only show up in the browser after waiting a long time, (15+ minutes). I have tried all the things mentioned here, which have not worked. These include: Making sure no caching plugins are installed in Wordpress Clearing the browser cache Trying from a different browser Making sure I am editing and accessing the correct file Checking webhost configuration panel for a caching plugin Something seems to be caching the stylesheet but I'm not sure how this might be so.

• IE6 and IE7 Standalone: What do they render differently?

  It's common knowledge on SO (see this question) that to run IE6 and IE7 you need a Windows box (or virtual box) with only those apps installed. I doubt this is true (they are the real versions, I think). The two browsers I'm interested in are: Standalone IE6 from the MultipleIEs install Standalone IE7 also from Tredosoft (but published elsewhere) These two plus a "real" install of IE8 give you three IE versions in one Windows install. We all know that "You're out of luck if you're trying to run them all reliably in one VM," but can someone please show me JS, CSS, or HTML (or a plugin, etc.) that does not work on the standalone versions as it should? Downvoters: I'm fixing the question so that it's less aggressive, but since there are no comments I don't know what you don't like about this question. Also: I have ALL the test cases set up (IE6, IE7 and IE8, as well as the standalone versions) so if anybody has any code they want me to test, I can do that.
