• How to change Port 27000 from filtered to open status

  In my ubuntu box I am running flexlm licensing software on port 27000 and I am able to pull the license from the this port to run the simulation software locally. I am also trying to run the same software in another Linux machine (opensuse) by using the flexlm license from the Ubuntu box. However, my opensuse box is unable to communicate with port 27000 in my Ubuntu box. I have turned off the firewall on the Ubuntu box, played around with iptables and when I do a nmap from my opensuse box to Ubuntu box the message I get is that port 27000 is on filtered status. My understanding is that filtered status does not allow the opensuse box to communicate with Ubuntu. My question is how to change port 27000 from filtered status to open status? Hope someone can help me out. Thank you.

• Redisigning an old site, structure change etc

  I have an old site built in 2006, it has around 200 pages and 500 pictures. Every single page is of course indexed as well as images. It is very well ranked for targeted keywords and I receive good amount of SEO traffic (I guess that's due the various campaigns, branding, ppc, etc..) Problem: Site has outdated design, pages and images have not so proper names, there are no heading and alt tags, it was built in tables, inline CSS etc.. Goal: Complete redisign site, use divs, change file names, add proper meta data, alt tags etc.. Question: How this can affect current SEO positions? I will redirect (301) every single page to the new one, build site map, but what to do with images? Do I need to redirect them also? Any other suggestion?

  I'm using the WTFPL in my personal projects published on GitHub. Currently I'm using it verbatim, but I have the suspicion I shouldn't be leaving Copyright (C) 2004 Sam Hocevar <[email protected]> in there, and instead should use my name. But the license is very confusing about this. Half of the WTFPL is about the WTFPL itself, so I thought that copyright might refer to a copyright on the license text itself, and not on the project this is licensing. Also, it says Everyone is permitted to copy and distribute verbatim or modified copies of this license document, and changing it is allowed as long as the name is changed. So would I have to change the name, from WTFPL to, say, "WTFPL-Domenic"?

• How to change default foreign language font

  I want to know how to change the default font that is used when inputting a particular language. I use the Khmer language frequently, and the default font installed comes from the fonts-khmeros-core package. The fonts are fine, except that there better fonts. Once I install my beloved font, how do I cause Ubuntu to use that font instead of the ones from the package? Additionally, if you remove the fonts-khmeros-core package, and have only the custom font installed, the custom font will not be used by default, even if no other Khmer fonts are installed. However, when you install that package, those fonts are immediately used by default. Any ideas? Thanks.

  hi, here's my problem. When I log in I'm beeing asked for a password connecting to the internet which is strange because I'm the only user and the admin. I have auto log in and it never asks for passwords, (except when i do administrative tasks.) I have looked in the menu (System -- preferences, but i can't find any topic that say's passwords or similar. the only place where I have found a way to change my password is my user ((System -- preferences -- user and groups). I did try to take screenshots but nothing happened, which also is strange. I'm running ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop on my Asus 1201n (12").

• Change guest username

  Now, looking around on Google shows me some ways in which to customise the settings of the Guest session. But, I would love a way to change the name of the Guest account. Basically, I'm planning to take some laptops out to a school in Africa and want to rename the "Guest" account in 14.04 to "Student" so the students use that. They tend to store stuff on USB sticks and they're using the Guest account so they can't break anything. EDIT: I'll expand on this slightly. They're using the guest account simply for the reason it doesn't save anything after logoff. This was a specific thing the teachers have asked for. I don't mind if the actual username remains guest behind the scenes, but as long as it shows up as Student to on Unity. Any way of going about this?

• Can't change screen resolution Ubuntu 10.04 (BT)

  I'm using Backtrack 5 R2 , what is based on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. It is installed on Samsung Laptop , and default screen resolution in Windows for it is 1366x768 , but BT/Ubuntu Screen Resolution GUI tool (System=Preferences=Monitors) shows that only resolution available is 1024x768 , and called my monitor as "Unknown". Found a solution , that I have to change resolution in /usr/share/xresprobe/xorg.conf , but I did it , logged out/in and restarted many times , but it took me nowhere. Tried with xrandr , but it shows only mentioned 1024x768 as only solution , and when I tried to input needed resolution , but it did not accept it , because it is not available. As much as I googled , there are a lot of people that had similar problems with BT , but most of them solved with VirtualBox additional tools , but it can't help me , because I've installed it as second OS. In one forum read , that same problems is in Ubuntu 12 , so I ask this question here.

• how to change dolphin's select region of a file/folder (in detail view mode)

  Since nautilus has removed the dual pane. So I turn to dolphin. I am wondering how to change the default select behavior in detail view mode? Now to select a file/folder, my cursor has to hover over that file/folder and then the left click will take effect, but I much prefer the nautilus way, that is as long as your cursor is in the same row of that file/folder, left click picks up that item. This I think is more robust for user selection, it is faster. Any ideas how to achieve this in dolphin?

I wanted to rethink on this and need your expert advice and suggestions. As i am working currently in a hot skill(sharepoint 2013) technology, is it a good thought to go ahead and do MBA and change my career, or should i start liking what i do??   I have a keyboard with a "sleep" button that does indeed make my computer go to sleep. The problem is that Ubuntu can't really handle sleep on my computer, causing it go into a non-responsive mode, having the CPU fan spinning at full speed and it stops receiving any input. Hibernation instead works mainly as it should. I would like to set the sleep key to hibernate, but the keyboard settings' hotkeys tab doesn't have this "sleep" keybinding and though I could make new one with hibernate --force as the command, it would require root rights to run. How can I change the keyboard sleep button action to hibernate?

• ubuntu 12.04 html5 video jumps out of fullscreen when I change volume [closed]

  Often I can't play html5 videos at all until after a relogin. I have a lenovo t500 with an ati hd3650. My sense is that it's the pop up notice that kills fullscreen. The "popup" notice refers to the notice that always pops up in the upper right hand corner when ubuntu announces something. In this case it pops up when I change the volume and video immediately jumps out of fullscreen. The question is: can I do something about the lack of fullscreen in youtube html5 or is it something I just have to accept?

  I started verifying the server by putting a couple of static HTMLs in place. Then I noticed that Google wants you to keep these files in place. I didn't want to keep the static HTMLs in, so I want to switch to an alternative verification mechanism, and include the meta tags on the home page. Unfortunately, once your site is verified, you never seem to be able to change to an alternative way of verification. I tried removing the HTML pages. No luck whatsoever. Google still considers the site to be 'verified'. Does anybody know how to undo this? All I want to do is switch to the meta tag based method of site ownership verification.

  Good Evening members 1) Recently i have installed the plymouth manager and i accidentally set my resolution to 1024X768-24 which does not fit my laptop exactly and everytime my system reboots an error message shows that error: incorrect settings 1024X768-24. I tried to change the resolution from the system seetings Display but now only this 1024X768 is shown in the drop down. Kindly help me to reset the display properties to default. 2) Additionally plymouth is also not responding when i click on it and i want to uninstall it kindly help me in that too.   This isn't a language-specific thing as far as I'm concerned. I was wondering what may be a quick way to change the COLOR of a certain on-screen element such as a button and its associated text. I would assume there is a trick to making a graphics engine so maybe individuals pixels or groups of sprites can have their colors easily shifted. A lot of game interface buttons and such have this so you know when an event like a click has occurred. Any pseudo code would be helpful and I am working in Android (not XML fluff), but again, this probably is not a very specific question, just an inquiry on how to go about this.

• I cannot log in after theme change

  After changing the gtk-theme in the gnome tweak took I was taken out of the session to the login screen and now I cannot log in. I can only log in using the guest account. So in the grub menu I selected the recovery mode and in the resulting menu I selected root-drop to root shell prompt. Once there I did a couple of things I've found in several pages and in the forums. 1.gsettings reset org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme This is what I got: (process:642):WARNING: Command line 'dbus-launch –autolunch=4438d024dd45ef7fb2d3f4ab0000000f –binary-syntax --close-stderr' exited with non-zero exit status 1: Autolaunch error: X11 initialization failed.\n and nothing changes 2.gconftool-2 --type=string -s /desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_theme Radiance with this I was trying to change the gtk theme to the Radiance one. Recently I've been trying to install utorrent, which I already was able to do so, but I need the port 8080 free to use run tomcat/glassfish and on port 80 php.   I upgraded to 12.10 some days ago and now I'm unable to change between the environments. I currently have GNOME 3 (with extensions), KDE and, of course, Unity installed. The computer is a Lenovo G550. In the login screen I can get into the menu where the DEs are listed, but I can't select one. I can't use a test account of mine, which used GNOME 3, because after I logged in X crashes/restarts. Unity works, but I can't switch from the broken GNOME 3 to Unity. What did I broke during the upgrade and how can I fix it?

After some time, I decided to add a password so I clicked on unlock and it's prompting me to enter a password. I tried typing the old password and it didn't accepted it.   I have a small AI framework for a shooting based game. Although this is rarely needed, as when agents are close to each other they are usually fighting, I would none the less like some way of implementing avoidance behaviour. For example, if in the future I wanted to take away their weapons and have many of them wonder around in a crowd, how would I make them not hit / pass through each other, but instead avoid each other? two ideas I had would be to add steering behaviour and allow that to deviate from their path, or to use a dynamic pathfinding technique. Are there better ways? What is the more respected practice?

The current screen resolution is not good at all, I can't see the top bar and the left one. Here are the available resolutions in settings: 1920*1080 1280*720 960*600 and lower resolutions But with no one of these I can see the top bar in it. They are bigger than the monitor. In Windows 7 I use 1202*670 resolution. How can I change the resolution to what I want exactly?

I tried removing the new code and only pressing one key at a time, but it still won't work. Despite this, I have camera movement set inside another Game1 method that uses WASD and works perfectly. It works, of course, when a user changes the select box value in the browser. But I've tried many ways to fire it programmatically, none of which have worked.
