• Mysql not starting - innodb not found

  I have a fresh install of ubuntu 12.04 server edition and mysql server is not starting properly. • command-line zip not working

  I have a Wordpress site on a Debian/Linux dedicated server, with a Backupbuddy plugin for making automatic backups. The plugin, however, gives an error 'Your server does not support command line ZIP'. My knowledge of Linux commands is very limited, but I managed installing zip with the command sudo apt-get install zip However, I still get the same error message. Plugin documentation mentions the problem could also be caused by disabled exec() or safe_mode - but exec isn't disabled, and safe_mode is off. Any ideas what might be causing this, or how to fix it? The only thing I could think of, is it might be caused by wrong permissions?

• App Engine charges in November 2011 [closed]

  I had a billing enabled test application on Google App Engine left over from early 2011. I have not received a bill in many months because I have not been hitting the URL and according to the activity monitor, nobody has. Then unexpectedly in November 2011, I received 2 bills in as many weeks for quite minimal amounts. Checking the monitor it looks like nobody has been hitting the URL and according to the SQL-like search, there is nothing in the Datastore. I know that GAE has left the "preview" in recent weeks but I am not sure how that would affect what is essentially a dormant application with no Datastore objects. Has GAE started charging for completely unused applications in recent weeks? Edit: Most of my applications were already disabled and I have just disabled the only one that was enabled but unused the past several months. If I get another bill next week that should be informative.

• Two problems, both with either lock or suspend.

  I recently did two things that may be the cause of either of them. 1) I started using a second screen 2) I installed xscreensaver instead of the stock, power saving option. My first question is about suspend: every time I wake from suspend, networking is disabled. While I've seen multiple posts about that on here, it didn't start happening until recently. Second, lock seems to be disabled now. Are both of these problems a bug, or was this caused by the second screen or maybe xscreensaver?

Is there a way to prevent Ubuntu One from changing its startup value? I want it to stay disabled. I haven't found anything relevant in Ubuntu One's settings dialog.

  I'm using LibGDX v1.1.0 and I see that the label of a TextButton is not properly centered. • Dynamic Components

  I am attempting to design a component-based architecture that allows Components to be dynamically enabled and disabled, much like the system employed by Unity3D. For example, all Components are implicitly enabled by default; however, if one desires to halt execution of code for a particular Component, one can disable it. Naively, I want to have a boolean flag in Component (which is an abstract class), and somehow serialize all method calls into strings, so that some sort of ComponentManager can check if a given Component is enabled/disabled before processing a method call on it. However, this is a pretty bad solution. I feel like I should employ some variation of the state paradigm, but I have yet to make progress. Any help would be greatly appreciated,

• jQuery scrolling images for e-commerce site, what to do about users who disable JS

  As the title suggests, I am developing an e-commerce site and I intend of having two jQuery plug ins on the default page, one for scrolling images and the other for the navigation menu. Should I be concerned about making the site work if the users disables JS? Cause if they have it disabled my site would be almost impossible to use with the scrolling images blocking the main content. Plus the CMS I am using, Big Commerce, uses a bit of JS for the products pages, which would also look ridiculous with JS disabled. Anyone have experience with this?

• Syanptics Touchpad Won't Re-enable

  I disabled my Synaptics touchpad while a key on my keyboard and now I can't get it to work again. When I press that key again it says the touchpad turns back on but will not work at all. Rebooting doesn't help, and I tried installing touchpad-indicator but when I try to enable from there it says that it enables, but the icon remains like it's disabled. The odd thing is that it works on the lock screen so I know the drivers aren't messed up, it's just a setting. Also, the touchpad works on guest mode but still nothing on my account. I tried using gconf to set the touchpad_enable to true and it worked, it sure set it. Doesn't make a difference though, my touchpad is still useless.   Posted this question on stackoverflow but then got instructed to post it here: I was using Rapid7's Nexpose to scan one of our web servers (windows server 2008), and got a vulnerability for timestamp response. According to Rapid7, timestamp response shall be disabled: http://www.rapid7.com/db/vulnerabilities/generic-tcp-timestamp So far I have tried several things: Edit the registry, add a "Tcp1323Opts" key to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters, and set it to 0. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc938205.aspx Use this command: netsh int tcp set global timestamps=disabled Tried powershell command: Set-netTCPsetting -SettingName InternetCustom -Timestamps disabled (got error: Set-netTCPsetting : The term 'Set-netTCPsetting' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.) None of above attempts was successful, after re-scan we still got the same alert. Rapid7 suggested using a firewall that's capable of blocking it, but we want to know if there is a setting on windows to achieve it. Is it through a specific port? If yes, what is the port number? If not, could you suggest a 3rd party firewall that is capable of blocking it? Thank you very much.

• Apache Simple Configuration Issue: per-user directory is accessing /~user instead of ~user

  Hello. I am just getting Apache 2.2 running on Fedora 13 Beta 64-bit. I am running into issues setting my per-user directory. The goal is to make localhost/~user map to /home/~user/public_html. I think that I have the permissions right because I have 755 to /home/~user, and I have 755 to /home/~user/public_html/ and I have 777 for all contents inside of /home/~user/public_html/ recursively set. • IIS7 Session ID rotating with Classic ASP

  I am trying to migrate a Classic ASP app onto a Windows 2008 R2 server. The application features run fine, but I am having issue with session. The application keeps the logged in user information in session and I am constantly getting knocked out as if the session had expired. While debugging I have discovered the sessions are not expiring but instead I am getting 2-3 different Session IDs in use by one browser. I am outputting Response.Write(Session.SessionID) on various pages in the application and I can sit there and hit refresh over and over and watch the number changed between these 2-3 SessionIDs randomly. The sessions are still valid because when I refresh and get the Session ID that I logged in under the page is displayed (because the security check was successful) and when I get one of the other Session IDs I get the "you aren't logged in, you need to log in" message. If I close and re-open the browser, same story just the set of IDs are new. This happens with IE8, Firefox and Chrome from multiple computers. Things I've tried: - AppPool set to No Managed Code and Classic - Output Caching set .asp to never cache - ASP Session Properties enabled and disabled asp session state and confirmed it affected page (error trying to read Session.SessionID when disabled) Things I've tried just in case but shouldn't have anything to do with ASP Session: - Disabled compression - Changed ASP.Net Session State properties (InProc, StateServer, SQLServer, Cookies, URI, etc) -

• How can I run Gnome or KDE locally in Cygwin?

  Apparently it is possible to do this using cygwin ports, as can be seen in screenshots. I followed this how-to to get apt-cygports set up, and I used it to install gnome-session. • Dell XPS 17 Laptop USB SS Ports don't work until machine rebooted

  I have a new Dell XPS 17 laptop and have an issue that the two USB SS ports on the rear of the machine are not recognising anything when I start-up. Have tried mouse, keyboard, headset, USB display. If I plug a USB hub in the power light on the hub lights (presume this is hard-wired) but a mouse plugged into the hub does not light up. If I restart the pc the ports work fine. Also the other two USB ports work fine all the time. I have switched off the power saving setting on the device manager (Power managementAllow the computer to turn off this device to save power) and also in the advanced power settings (USB Settings USB Selective suspend setting:disabled) I have also disabled USB powershare in the BIOS (not sure what this actually does!) This is becoming very annoying having to restart the machine every day before I can start work Running Win 7 Pro x64 EDIT: I have found that setting USB Emulation to Disabled has helped the devices to be recognised during start up but they keep dropping out completely when in use EDIT 2: I contacted Dell about this issue who told me to update the BIOS driver, when I asked if I should downgrade from the factory installed A13 to the A12 posted on the dell website they said no. However there is now an A14 available on the website has anyone tried this?

• Vlans and subinterfaces

  I've inherited a moderate size network that I'm trying to bring some sanity to. Basically, its 8 public class Cs and a slew of private ranges all on one vlan (vlan1, of course). Most of the network is located throughout dark sites. I need to start separating some of the network. I've changed the ports from the main cisco switch (3560) to the cisco router (3825) and the other remote switches to trunking with dot1q encapsulation. I'd like to start moving a few select subnets to different vlans. To get some of the different services provided on our address space (and to separate customers) on to different vlans, do I need to create a subinterface on the router for each vlan and, if so, how do I get the switch port to work on a specific vlan? Keep in mind, these are dark sites and geting console access is difficult if not impossible at the moment. I was planning on creating a subinterface on the router for each vlan then setting the ports with services I want to move to a different vlan to allow only that vlan. • Implications of disabling the AMD Phenom's TLB patch?

  I'm currently running a AMD Phenom X4 9600 processor (yeah, it's aging a bit, but other recent problems mean it's not getting upgraded in the immediate future), which happens to be one of the chips that suffer from the TLB errata. I recall that the first time I played with disabling the TLB patch (probably over a year ago, while playing a game that had a severe performance problem such that it was almost unplayable unless the patch was disabled) I had at least one BSOD, but I can't remeber them being particularly frequent. However, because it decreased instability, I stopped disabling the patch once I was done with the game. Now, after some recent hardware changes I was experiancing much worse performance than expected from the new hardware under some circumstances, and the TLB jumped to mind - after testing I found that disabling the patch would improve the performance to expected levels. I'm now wondering if it's worthwhile always having the patch disabled to avoid any potential slowdowns cropping up in the future, or if it is too dangerous. Everything I read states that the bug, when not patched, can causes a system lock-up in "rare circumstances". So, with the TLB patch disabled: How frequently should system lock-ups be expected? Do we know what the circumstances that trigger the lock-ups are? (Don't worry too much about being highly technical, but essentially I wonder if the chip more vunerable under heavy load, or heavy memory usage, etc?) Are there any secondary problems I should be aware of? (Don't include things that are charateristic to all lock-ups, please)

• Windows 7 Won't Boot

  I recently built a new computer, my fifth one. ASUS Maximus III Formula LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Motherboard EVGA 01G-P3-1452-TR GeForce GTS 450 Superclocked 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Video Card COOLMAX RM-1000B 1000W ATX psu Intel Core i7-875K lynnfield 2.93GHz LGA 1156 95w Quad-Core unlocked processor G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16 (4x4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) memory WD VelociRaptor WD3000GLFS 300gb 10000 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive Sony Optiarc CD/DVD Burner model AD-7261S-0B LightScribe Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit It gets hung up on the starting windows screen. When I went to install the OS it did the same thing wouldn't go past the windows logo, so I put the new HDD into my old computer and installed windows 7 thinking it was just an installer error. Put the fully installed HDD back into my new machine and it still gets stuck on the starting windows screen. I've tried most everything I've looked up. Disabled USB, Disabled Turbo Boost, Disabled everything that wasn't essential(just about every configuration I can think of), took it apart and put it back together, took all the ram out save one 4g stick(wouldn't even boot when I did this), did a memory scan which came back successful, I don't know what could be wrong. Only thing I can think of is a compatibility issue somewhere, but I've ran over it again and again and I don't know where there would be an issue like that. Need Backup! .<

• DVD Share on Vista Home Premium Failing

  UPDATE: - I can't find any Local Policy Editor for Vista Home Premium, as suggested. - I did learn about registry keys: allocatecdroms, allocatefloppies, allocatedasd and tried adding these keys (individually and collectively) and setting them to both 0 or 1. There was no positive affect on read access to the DVD root folder - always Access Denied. ORIGINAL POST: Failing read access to the root folder of a DVD drive in Vista Home Premium laptop using the Guest account - Access Denied. The client is an XP Home PC that can see, but not access, the data in the share. I'm only trying to read the data DVD - not trying to write/burn anything. On the Vista laptop, I have: All Firewalls and Antivirus disabled.UAC disabled. Password checking disabled. "Advanced Shared" the DVD drive, with "Everyone" having full-access permissions to the share. Tried adding Guest and Anonymous users having full-access permissions to the share. RestrictAnonymous=0 set in the registry. Both PC's are in the same workgroup (MSHOME) The XP Home client sees the shared DVD in \Vista_Hostname\ but when I double click the drive icon on the client, I get a popup that access is denied, check with the administrator, etc. I can share other folders on the Vista PC and see and READ these from the XP Home client. If I enable password checking on the Vista side, I get a user/password popup, and I can authenticate (using my known Vista account, that happens to have Admin rights) and then I can get to see and read the DVD data. I need to open this up so that the (default) Guest user can see and access the DVD data files.

• Cisco 3560+ipservices -- IGMP snooping issue with TTL=1

  I've got a C3560 with Enhanced (IPSERVICES) image, routing multicast between its VLANs with no external multicast router. It's serving a test environment where developers may generate multicast traffic on arbitrary addresses. Everything is working fine except when someone sends out multicast traffic with TTL=1, in which case the multicast packet suppression fails and the traffic is broadcast to all members of the VLAN. It looks to me like because the TTL is 1, the multicast routing subsystem doesn't see the packets, so it doesn't create a mroute table entry. If I send out packets with TTL=2 briefly, then switch to TTL=1 packets, they are filtered correctly until the mroute entry expires. My question: is there some trick to getting the switch to filter the TTL=1 packets, or am I out of luck? Below are the relevant parts of the config, with a representative VLAN interface. • Windows 7 caches FTP credentials?

  On my remote maschine i have an iis 7.5 (win server 2008) and set up an ftp site with iis manager authentication. I then did active directory user isolation and isolated my users to physical folders according to their names. So far, so good. I can access with ftp cliens from everywhere with different test accounts that i previously set up in the iis manager auth. Every user connects to its own folder. When i now tested with windows 7 as a client i did the following. Explorer - computer - right click - add network address - the ip of my remote maschine - user1 - password1 Perfect - it works. I now want to connect with user2. So I deleted this network address and set up a new connection, but with user2 (or even anonymous) instead. Now the strange thing: Windows doesn't even ask me for a password again. It just connects me to the folder of the user1. I already disabled ftp caching in the IIS and i disabled the user1 account in IIS manager authentication! Still, if i set up a network connection with this windows 7 it connects to the folder user1 . No matter which username i use (anonymous, administrator, user2,...). And if i connect with other ftp clients or other computers it all works perfectly. So I assume that this one windows somehow caches the credentials... But then, why does the IIS still accepts this credentials even if i disabled this user1 account??? Thanks.
