  • Problem: Vectorizing Code with Intel Visual FORTRAN for X64

    I'm compiling my fortran90 code using Intel Visual FORTRAN on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise X64 Edition. When I compile the code for 32 bit structure and using automatic and manual vectorizing options. The code will be compiled, vectorized. And when I run it on 8 core system the compiled code uses 70% of CPU that shows me that vectorizing is working. But when I compile the code with 64 Bit compiler, it says that the code is vectorized but when I run it it only shows CPU usage of about 12% that is full usage for one core out of 8, so it means that while the compiler says that code is vectorized, vectorization is not working. And it's strange for me because it's on a X64 Edition Windows and I was expecting to see the reverse result. I thought that it should be better to run a code that is compiled for 64 Bit architecture on a 64 bit windows. Anyone have any idea why the compiled code is not able to use the full power of multiple cores for 64 Bit Compiled version? Thanks in advance for your responses.

  • How do graphics programmers deal with rendering vertices that don't change the image?

    So, the title is a little awkward. I'll give some background, and then ask my question. Background: I work as a web GIS application developer, but in my spare time I've been playing with map rendering and improving data interchange formats. I work only in 2D space. One interesting issue I've encountered is that when you're rendering a polygon at a small scale (zoomed way out), many of the vertices are redundant. An extreme case would be that you have a polygon with 500,000 vertices that only takes up a single pixel. If you're sending this data to the browser, it would make sense to omit ~499,999 of those vertices. One way we achieve that is by rendering an image on a server and and sending it as a PNG: voila, it's a point. Sometimes, though, we want data sent to the browser where it can be rendered with SVG (or canvas, or webgl) so that it can be interactive. The problem: It turns out that, using modern geographic data sets, it's very easy to overload SVG's rendering abilities. In an effort to cope with those limitations, I'm trying to figure out how to visually losslessly reduce a data set for a given scale and map extent (and, if necessary, for a known map pixel width and height). I got a great reduction in data size just using the Douglas-Peucker algorithm, and I believe I was able to get it to keep the polygons true to within one pixel. Unfortunately, Douglas-Peucker doesn't preserve topology, so it changed how borders between polygons got rendered. I couldn't readily find other algorithms to try out and adapt to the purpose, but I don't have much CS/algorithm background and might not recognize them if I saw them.

Get it from http://www.boutell.com/gd/, compile it, and use the --with-gd-lib and --with-gd-inc arguments to specify the locations of the GD library and include files. NOTE: In addition to the gd-devel library, you'll also need to make sure you have the png-devel and jpeg-devel libraries installed on your system. NOTE: After you install the necessary libraries on your system: 1. Make sure /etc/ld.so.conf has an entry for the directory in which the GD, PNG, and JPEG libraries are installed. 2. Run 'ldconfig' to update the run-time linker options. 3. Run 'make clean' in the Nagios distribution to clean out any old references to your previous compile. 4. Rerun the configure script. NOTE: If you can't get the configure script to recognize the GD libs on your system, get over it and move on to other things. The CGIs that use the GD libs are just a small part of the entire Nagios package. Get everything else working first and then revisit the problem. My guess for game development in C++ is: -DirectX is most common for  Windows games -SDL or SDL+OpenGL is most common for  Linux games -OpenGL + Apple APIs are most common for OSX development What do most indie game projects use? If I wanted to casually build my own game for fun in C++ with the idea of possibly releasing it to Steam or something someday, is there anything I should be concerned about if I make it with DirectX for music/sound/input and build my own game engine?   • Why doesn't 12.04 recognize my ATI Radeon X300SE graphics card?

    So far everything including the BCM4321 card is working, however, the OEM ATI Radeon X300SE (RV370) is not recognized. When I go into system details the card comes up as unknown. When I run lspci the card shows up as: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RV370 5B60 [Radeon X300 (PCIE)] 01:00.1 Display controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RV370 [Radeon X300SE] I have attempted check Additional Drivers but the card does not show up as needing a driver. So far this is causing the system to run warmer as the processor is doing a bit of the work to run Unity and any full screen videos tend to be rather choppy. Is there an available driver that will fix my issue and what is the install method? I am not scared to run a terminal so no worries there, as long as I have instructions, I can find my way. I am running under 12.04 LTS Kernel 3.2.0-25-generic-pae

    In the game Hearthstone, there are cards with animated images on them. Fading sprites in and out/rotating them Simple scrolling textures A distortion effect, very evident in the cape and hair of example 1. Swirling smoke effects, the light in example 1 and the green/purple glow in example 2. The first three elements are trivial, what I'd like to know is how the last two could be done. Can this even be done realtime in a game, or are they pre-rendered animations?

  • inkscape stroke inaccurate

    I am trying to add a stroke to a rectangle object, but if I add a 1px stroke, it places it 0.5px outside the edge of the rectangle and 0.5px inside the rectangle. I find this to be annoying when I want an object to be exactly 5px by 5px and it ends up becoming 6px by 6px. Is there a setting anywhere which places the stroke within the rectangle edge so a 5px by 5px square remains a 5px by 5px square. Please help.

    I'm building a new system. So far I think I narrowed it down to Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H (Z77 Ivy Bridge chipset) motherboard. I was planning to get i5-3570K(Ivy Bridge) cpu, but now I can get i7-2600K(Sandy Bridge) cpu for free. It is my understanding that Ivy Bridge platform brings support for PCIe3 and (additional?)USB3 ports. If I were to put SB cpu into IB motherboard, what is going to happen to PCIe3 slot? Will it not work at all or downgrade to PCIe2? Also, what is the situation with USB3 ports?

  • I need to build a mini computer lab with 6 PCs

    Hello everyone, This weekend I need to build a mini computer lab with 5-6 PCs. The purpose is for a small computer class that will be taking place. They're mostly going to be doing office and daily kind of stuff, so nothing high performance. However, I hope it will last at least for 2 more years. I already have some parts for 2 PCs, one is a P4 3.0 and another is Celeron 2.4GHz, both socket 478. For the other 4 PCs, I'm wondering if I should buy individual parts and put it all together or get workstations like those Dell Optiplex with P4s. To put things into perspective, I am not currently in the US. I'm in South America and prices here are ridiculously. Another really important thing is that I need to share an internet connection between a total of 8 PCs at this place. Right now I only have a crappy wireless router, should I get another one? Or go with switch hub? I'm not experienced in this matter. Thanks guys!

  • How to rotate attached monitor to notebook of Sony's Z-series?

    Is it possible that Sony is selling a top of the line, hugely expensive computer that does not have the basic ability to rotate an attached monitor? Is it possible that the Z-series simply can't do this? The Windows control panel is missing the normal option for "rotation", as is the Nvidia control panel for "orientation" , no additional rotation software works. Sony sales says they do not know the answer to this. Sony technical supports says that the problem lies with Nvidia, Nvidia technical supports says the problem lies with Sony. Any advice for a fix for this short of returning the computer would be greatly appreciated. Also wondering if this problem is common to computers running Windows 7?

  • Form graphics not set when form loads

    My form has a group box which contains two overlapping rectangles. The form's other controls are two sets of four numeric up down controls to set the rectangles' colors. (nudF1,2,3 and 4 set the rectangle that's in front, and nudB1,2,3 and 4 set the rectangle that's behind.) Everything works fine, except that the rectangles do not display the colors set in the numeric up downs when the form first loads. The numeric up down controls' ChangeValue events all call the ShowColors() method. The form's Load event calls the csColorsForm_Load() method.   • NEC uPD720200 USB 3.0 not working on Ubuntu 12.04

    I've recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit on a HP Envy 15 1104tx. Most stuff appears to be working fine with the exception of the two USB3 ports (USB2 port works fine). I've read a lot of articles but so far have not been able to find a solution. I've tried adding 'pci=nomsi' to '/etc/default/grub' but this made no difference. Some articles suggest booting into Windows and upgrading the firmware on the uPD720200. Any body had any experience of this? Is there a way I can checked the firmware version of the NEC uPD720200 in Linux to see if there is an update available? However, this is easily fixed.Just navigate to http://127.0.0.1:7101/console. This will deploy the console app where you can configure WLS. By default the login credentials are:username: weblogicpassword: weblogic1Then go to Environment -> Servers -> DefaultServer. Check the "SSL Listen Port Enabled" box and your server will now listen to SSL requests (just make sure to use the listen port that is specified).For added security, you can always check while processing your request that it is going through an SSL connection by first checking HttpServletRequest.isSecure().
