• TextMate GetBundle stopped working in Snow Leopard

  It seems that I am no longer able to Get Bundles using TextMate after upgrading to Snow Leopard. I get the following error message. Googling shows no solutions. I have updated to the latest GetBundle via svn to no avail. /Applications/TextMate.app/Contents/SharedSupport/Support/lib/osx/plist.bundle: dlopen(/Applications/TextMate.app/Contents/SharedSupport/Support/lib/osx/plist.bundle, 9): no suitable image found. • Aventail VPN connect on Mac OS X 10.6.2 Snow Leopard

  Hello, I am running Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.2). Recently, my company switched (for whatever odd reason) from Cisco VPN (that used to work fine) to Aventail VPN. I proceeded to install the Aventail VPN client on both the mac and a Windows 7 machine, both on my home network. When I try to connect one or the other (I make sure one is disconnected before connecting through the other machine), I get a connection and view the correct certificate - accept it and Aventail tells me that I am connected. However, accessing any page inside my company's network is only possible on Windows. On the Mac I get the following page: http://grab.by/2WOA It looks like my ISP doesn't know how to redirect me? Maybe something about my DNS being set incorrectly on the Mac? Our helpdesk has been completely useless and I was hoping fellow super users can help. Thanks.

• Ext3 partition doesn't mount on Snow Leopard using MacFUSE

  I'm dual-booting OS X and Ubuntu on a Macbook 4,1. I'm trying to mount my Linux partition in OS X. I installed MacFUSE 2.0.3,2 and fuse-ext2-0.0.7 on Snow Leopard 10.6.5. • Constant crashes in windows 7 64bit when playing games

  I've tried everything I can possibly think of in trying to fix this problem and I'm totally out of ideas, so any help would be appreciated: The problem: whenever I fire up a game, it works for a short while with no problems and then it would crash. Either its a hard crash, forcing me to reboot, or windows would report that the display driver has stopped working and recovered. Here is a list of things I've already tried: Drivers - tried the latest drivers (catalyst 9.12) as well as the stock drivers that came with the video card. Also have the latest BIOS/chipset Memtest - Ran Memtest86+ overnight, had no problems, the windows diagnostic tool also does not find any problems. Overheating - Video card/cpu temperatures are well below peak (42 and 31 Celsius receptively) PSU Voltage - CPUID shows that the voltage levels are all above what they should be. The PSU itself is only roughly 16 months old and is a good model. HDD - No errors when checked GPU - Brand new (replaced previous card since I thought it was the problem, apparently not) Overclocking - Everything is at stock levels, memory voltage is set to manufacturer's standard Specs: Motherboard: ASUS P5Q Pro CPU: Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 ghz OS: Windows 7 home premium 64 bit Memory: Mushkin Enhanced 4GB DDR2 GPU: Sapphire HD 5850 1GB PSU: SeaSonic M12 600W ATX12V DirectX: DX11 Event Viewer after a crash always has these logged: A fatal hardware error has occurred. • Apache can't access /assets directory (OS X 10.6 Snow Leaopard)

  I know this will turn out to be something really stoopid, but I can't find it. Everything was great until I upgraded to OS X 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard) and the supplied Apache 2.2.13. I've replaced all the httpd conf files with my own that were previously working just fine. Everything is great except for one thing: Apache returns a 404 error for any requests to /assets/*. If I rename the directory from 'assets' to anything else, it works fine. I'm going crazy trying to find out why it's sensitive to the string 'assets'. I have no .htaccess files. All permissions have been checked. I've scoured all conf files (including vhosts) for what might cause this and haven't found it. Is there any reason why Apache would treat 'assets' different from anything else? Is there anywhere to check other than conf and .htaccess files?

• Recovering text files in terminal using grep on Mac OS X Snow Leopard

  I foolishly removed some source code from my Mac OS X Snow Leopard machine with rm -rf when doing something with buildout. I want to try and recover these files again. I haven't touched the system since to try and seek an answer. I found this article and it seems like the grep method is the way to go, but when running it on my machine I'm getting 'Resource busy' when trying to run it on the disk. I'm using this command: sudo grep -a -B1000 -A1000 'video_output' /dev/disk0s2 > file.txt Where 'dev/disk0s2' is what came up when I ran df. I get this when running: grep: /dev/disk0s2: Resource busy I'm not an expert with this stuff, I'm trying my best. Please can anyone help me further? I'm on the verge of losing two days of source code work! Thank you

• Install multiple PHP environments on OS X Snow Leopard

  I just upgraded my MBP to Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6), which took PHP to 5.3 This is great, except I use my MBP as my development machine and I use a lot of PHP libs and frameworks (namely CakePHP 1.2) which are not compatible at the moment with PHP 5.3. CakePHP in particular does not have a stable version for PHP 5.3 so its not a matter of upgrading the framework (and the production servers are under PHP 5.2 anyway.) Is there a way to install PHP 5.2.9 alongside PHP 5.3 and then using httpd.conf or .htaccess tell Apache which version of PHP to use for a particular directory? Alternatively is there a way to do this with MacPorts? Thanks!

• XAMPP OSX Snow Leopard & php ssh2 extension

  I've been having problems getting the php ssh2 extension to work under xampp on Snow Leopard in my local test environment. I understand xampp is 32 bit and so the extension must be compiled as 32 bit and have found a couple of tutorials detailing how to do this. However, compiling the ssh2 extension requires the libssh2 library to be present for the compiler to access and I'm unsure how to compile libssh2 in 32 bit and force the extension compiler to in turn find/use it - currently it just reports the libssh2 library required version cannot be found. Any help would be much appreciated!

• Microsoft Word "Random" Crashes

  Word seemingly randomly crashes in an application setting where it is first being used to programmatically databind (bookmarks) and then directly afterwards opened on the user machine for further user input. The error message is quite precise but the workaround has eluded me. Word crashes a moment or two after it has been opened on the user machine with the below exception details. Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: WINWORD.EXE Application Version: 14.0.6129.5000 Application Timestamp: 5082f354 Fault Module Name: wwlib.dll Fault Module Version: 14.0.6129.5000 Fault Module Timestamp: 5082f3dc Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 000eed32 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.16.7 Locale ID: 1030 Additional information about the problem: LCID: 1030 skulcid: 1030 Sometimes one can run the exact same scenario 50 times before experiencing a crash, other times only a few times. We have tried using different versions of the Word format as well as renaming the databound file after saving so that the file being opened on the user machine is different. Principally Word should never crash but perhaps there is some workaround that can make Word not crash. Googling for a solution there appears to be multiple things that can trigger this bug.

• Cannot flush the DNS on Snow Leopard 10.6.8

  I have an absolutely bizarre problem and it has STUMPED me.. I cannot seem to flush the DNS on my Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I have tried sudo dscacheutil -flushcache , i've tried dscacheutil -flushcache and it hasn't worked. I'm building a website, and changed the directories yesterday. Now when I check it on my other machine, it works fine. When I get somewhere from distance to check, it works fine, but it's seemingly stuck in the DNS on this machine as the CSS is not showing. Is there a hard-flush method (if that makes sense)? The two above did not work.

  Hello, I was searching for a long time a Linux Live USB that I can boot my macbook pro from. Is there such distro so I can install it on Snow Leopard or Windows 7? UPDATE I've found this: "isohybrid" CD images (..) are special in that as well as the normal CD-based ISO9660 filesystem they also contain a valid-looking DOS-style partition table. Thus, if you simply copy one of these images raw to a USB stick a normal PC BIOS will boot the image directly. (...) Finally: I'd like to add support into xorriso for creating the nasty HFS hybrid images that are needed for booting Macs. The code that does this in cdrkit is probably some of the worst that I've ever worked with, and I'd like to get away from it. • Diagnosing PC crashes (most often while using shared folders or torrents)

  For the last few weeks my PC (pretty old P4 with WinXP SP3) has been crashing randomly. It just suddenly reboots instanteneously. It feels hardware-related but I wasn't able to determine wether it's software or hardware that causes it. I did notice a pattern though: it's more likely to crash when I copy a lot of files over network or have uTorrent running, but sometimes it crashes when I am not doing anything with it. Copying files from it over network causes it to crash in 1 to 10 minutes almost every time. Using torrents causes it to crash every 1-3 hours. With neither or that on it crashes every 24 hours or so. I ruled out the following probable causes: PSU (I bought a new one and turned off most of the drives so the power is sufficient 100%) Bad HDD or interface cable on my SATA disk from which I was originally copying the data over network (bought new SATA cable and later yanked out the HDD completely, PC still crashes without it) Video adapter (AGP slot is now empty, using the onboard VGA at the moment) Network adapter (removed it from PCI, using onboard LAN) CPU (I think: I changed the termopaste and it's temperature is below 50C) RAM (I think: I ran Memtest86 and it didn't show any errors) At the moment I only have only one system HDD and DVD drives, a mouse and a keyboard plugged in. The fact that it crashes most often when I use network extensively makes me think that maybe it's software related (I removed the network adapter from PCI and now am using an onboard one, so network hardware is unlikely to cause problems). I am now pondering system reinstall but it's not a pleasant solution so I decided to ask wether there are better ideas first. If someone can share a good diagnostic tool it would be great because I didn't find anything good. Thanks in advance, I hope that "help to diagnose" questions aren't entirely banned here. EDIT: Motherboard is actually ~4 years old as I replaced it back in 2007

• Dereferencing deleted pointers always result in an Access Violation ??

  I have a very simple C++ code here: char *s = new char[100]; strcpy(s, "HELLO"); delete [] s; int n = strlen(s); If I run this code from Visual C++ 2008 by pressing F5 (Start Debugging,) this always result in crash (Access Violation.) However, starting this executable outside the IDE, or using the IDE's Ctrl+F5 (Start without Debugging) doesn't result in any crash. What could be the difference? I also want to know if it's possible to stably reproduce the Access Violation crash caused from accessing deleted area? Is this kind of crash rare in real-life?

• Why would gnu ld link order causes Signal 11 (SEGV) on startup?

  We are building a large application in C++ that includes the use of many (static) libraries. We have a problem where the application crashes on startup with a Signal 11, before we even reach main. After much debugging, we have observed that if we explicitly reference an object file so its link order is early, the program crashes on startup. If the file is referenced later (or not referenced at all), the program does not crash. To be clear, there is NO code invoked directly from this object file. However, as it is C++, there might be static objects that do get constructed (it's a CORBA IDL generated file). We use the -Wl,--start-group ... --end-group arguments to multi-pass link the symbols since the libraries are interdependent. Here is a representation of what I mean. This is what the linker's object file order is: Order 1 Order 2 Order 3 foo.o foo.o foo.o ... ... ... main.o main.o main.o crasher.o libA.o libA.o libA.o LibB.o LibB.o LibB.o LibC.o LibC.o LibC.o crasher.o Results: NO CRASH NO CRASH CRASH Does any one have an idea why the linkage order has an effect on the crash? It would be nice if we could force the crasher.o to link later, but we're really after an explanation. Also, is there a way to force the linker to place crasher.o towards the end? Just to add to the fun, in actuality, crasher.o is part of a Library in the --start/--end-group.

The sparseimage is stored on an external drive, and I already executed: defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1 I have also verified that the naming format of the sparsebundle is: MachineName_.sparsebundle. I'm running the latest version of Snow Leopard (10.6.7).

• Why is Transmission constantly active?

  I am using Transmission (1.92, the latest version) in Mac OS X 10.6.2 Snow Leopard, and have noticed that, without any torrents (at all, not even paused), Little Snitch reports constant activity from it. What's going on? I'd always assumed when I saw that with Torrents loaded but inactive, it had to do with the DHT, or some such kind of scanning activity. But what could it be doing when no torrents are loaded at all?

  I realize there is another question with the same title, but my situation is very different. The problem started on three of my computers after upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard. I can login to gmail and facebook using https with no problem. I can not login to https://identi.ca/main/login or https://seminars.wolfram.com/ or https://panopticlick.eff.org with Safari, works fine with Firefox. Already tried "Safari Reset..." Any ideas?

• Recovering OS X Mail Accounts Lost in Crash

  I had a hard crash on my Mac PowerBook and when I restarted, Mail came up with only my MobileMe account still available and I cannot figure out how to restore the other eight email accounts I have. The directories in ~/Library/Mail all seem to be there. I even did an rsync of the modified .plist files from a TimeMachine backup of the directory from before the crash (unfortunately, I was on travel, so the backup is more than a week old and I'd like to try and recover from that point without having to entirely restore from TimeMachine). I also did a fix permissions. So my questions are where exactly is the account information for Mac Mail kept? Any thoughts of what might have caused the failure? Why does only MobileMe come up? Any other thoughts on how to fix things?
