  • How do I use jQueryUI's ui-states with JSF2's h:messages?

    It seems like it should be very simple to specify that the h:messages generated by JSF should be styled using jQueryUI's nice ui-states. But sadly I can't make it fit. It seems that the jQueryUI states require several elements (div,div,p,span) in order to make it work.   • Auto-scaffolding Index views in ASP.NET MVC

    I'm trying to write an auto-scaffolder for Index views. I'd like to be able to pass in a collection of models or view-models (e.g., IQueryable<MyViewModel>) and get back an HTML table that uses the DisplayName attribute for the headings (th elements) and Html.Display(propertyName) for the cells (td elements). Each row should correspond to one item in the collection. So, I'd like to replace var items = (IQueryable<TestProj.ViewModels.TestViewModel>)Model; with var items = (IQueryable<T>)Model; or something to that effect. The <td> elements are not working because the Html in <%= Html.Display(property.DisplayName) %> contains the model for the view, which is a collection of items, not the item itself. Somehow, I need to obtain an HtmlHelper object whose Model property is the current item, but I'm not sure how to do that. How do I solve these two problems?

  • Searching a set of data with multiple terms using Linq

    I'm in the process of moving from ADO.NET to Linq. The application is a directory search program to look people up. The users are allowed to type the search criteria into a single textbox. They can separate each term with a space, or wrap a phrase in quotes such as "park place" to indicate that it is one term. Behind the scenes the data comes from a XML file that has about 90,000 records in it and is about 65 megs. I load the data into a DataTable and then use the .Select method with a SQL query to perform the searches. The query I pass is built from the search terms the user passed. I split the string from the textbox into an array using a regular expression that will split everything into a separate element that has a space in it. However if there are quotes around a phrase, that becomes it's own element in the array. I then end up with a single dimension array with x number of elements, which I iterate over to build a long query. I then build the search expression below: query = query & _ "((userid LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(nickname LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(lastname LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(firstname LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(department LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(telephoneNumber LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(email LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(Office LIKE '" & tempstr & "%'))" Each term will have a set of the above query. If there is more than one term, I put an AND in between, and build another query like above with the next term. I'm not sure how to do this in Linq. So far, I've got the XML file loading correctly. I'm able to search it with specific criteria, but I'm not sure how to best implement the search over multiple terms. 'this works but far too simple to get the job done Dim results = From c In m_DataSet...<Users> _ Where c.<userid>.Value = "XXXX" _ Select c The above code also doesn't use the LIKE operator either. So partial matches don't work. It looks like what I'd want to use is the .Startswith but that appears to be only in Linq2SQL. Any guidance would be appreciated. I'm new to Linq, so I might be missing a simple way to do this.   • Is ResourceBundle fallback resolution broken in Resin3x?

    Given the following ResourceBundle properties files: messages.properties messages_en.properties messages_es.properties messages_{some locale}.properties Note: messages.properties contains all the messages for the default locale. messages_en.properties is really empty - it's just there for correctness. messages_en.properties will fall back to messages.properties! And given the following config params in web.xml: <context-param> <param-name>javax.servlet.jsp.jstl.fmt.localizationContext</param-name> <param-value>messages</param-value> </context-param> <context-param> <param-name>javax.servlet.jsp.jstl.fmt.fallbackLocale</param-name> <param-value>en</param-value> </context-param> I would expect that if the chosen locale is 'es', and a resource is not translated in 'es', then it would fall back to 'en', and finally to 'messages.properties' (since messages_en.properties is empty). This is how things work in Jetty. I've also tested this on WebSphere. Resin Is the Problem The problem is when I get to Resin (3.0.23). Fallback resolution does not work at all! In order to get an messages to display, I must do the following: Rename messages.properties to messages_en.properties (essentially, swap the contents of messages.properties and messages_en.properties) Make sure ever key in messages_en.properties is also defined in messages_{every other locale}.properties (even if the exact same). If I don't do this, I get "???some.key???" in the JSPs. Please help!   • Simple database design and LINQ

    I have very little experience designing databases, and now I want to create a very simple database that does the same thing I have previously had in xml. Here's the xml: <services> <service type="writing"> <small>125</small> <medium>100</medium> <large>60</large> <xlarge>30</xlarge> </service> <service type="analysis"> <small>56</small> <medium>104</medium> <large>200</large> <xlarge>250</xlarge> </service> </services> Now, I wanted to create the same thing in a SQL database, and started doing this ( hope this formats ok, but you'll get the gist, four columns and two rows): > ServiceType Small Medium Large > > Writing 125 100 60 > > Analysis 56 104 200 This didn't work too well, since I then wanted to use LINQ to select, say, the Large value for Writing (60). But I couldn't use LINQ for this (as far as I know) and use a variable for the size (see parameters in the method below). I could only do that if I had a column like "Size" where Small, Medium, and Large would be the values. But that doesn't feel right either, because then I would get several rows with ServiceType = Writing (3 in this case, one for each size), and the same for Analysis. And if I were to add more servicetypes I would have to do the same. Simply repetitive... Is there any smart way to do this using relationships or something? Using the second design above (although not good), I could use the following LINQ to select a value with parameters sent to the method: protected int GetHourRateDB(string serviceType, Size size) { CalculatorLinqDataContext context = new CalculatorLinqDataContext(); var data = (from calculatorData in context.CalculatorDatas where calculatorData.Service == serviceType && calculatorData.Size == size.ToString() select calculatorData).Single(); return data.Hours; } But if there is another better design, could you please also describe how to do the same selection using LINQ with that design?     Hello, I'm using the query below to output all links from a custom taxonomy. It outputs all posts that are tagged 'http' from the taxonomy 'words'. I would like to exclude some general categories from the output. So, fe. it only outputs links in the media and news categories. If this is the case, how do I make it so that Hibernate points to the exists ServiceType instead of trying to insert it again?

    I'm trying to write a web part that access lists and add items in a specific list. The user modifies the web part and type in List Name, the web part has 3 TextBoxs and a Button. The user should enter data and press the save button, that should update the list and add these data in a new record. I'm using the following code to build my web part, but the save button doesn't update the list. I don't know what's wrong it just reload the page and add nothing.     I'm trying to write an auto-scaffolder for Index views. I'd like to be able to pass in a collection of models or view-models (e.g., IQueryable<MyViewModel>) and get back an HTML table that uses the DisplayName attribute for the headings (th elements) and Html.Display(propertyName) for the cells (td elements). Each row should correspond to one item in the collection. The <td> elements are not working because the Html in <%= Html.Display(property.DisplayName) %> contains the model for the view, which is a collection of items, not the item itself. Somehow, I need to obtain an HtmlHelper object whose Model property is the current item, but I'm not sure how to do that. How do I solve these two problems?

    This is an array of objects showing a user uploading photos: Array ( [12] => stdClass Object ( [type] => photo [created] => 2010-05-14 23:36:41 [user] => stdClass Object ( [id] => 760 [username] => mrsmith ) [photo] => stdClass Object ( [id] => 4181 ) ) [44] => stdClass Object ( [type] => photo [created] => 2010-05-14 23:37:15 [user] => stdClass Object ( [id] => 760 [username] => mrsmith ) [photo] => stdClass Object ( [id] => 4180 ) ) ) However instead of showing: mr smith uploaded one photo mr smith uploaded one photo I'd like to display: mr smith uploaded two photos by grouping similar items, grouping by user ID and them having added them within, let's say 15 minutes of each other. So I'd like to get the array in this sort of shape: Array ( [12] => stdClass Object ( [type] => photo [created] => 2010-05-14 23:36:41 [user] => stdClass Object ( [id] => 760 [username] => mrsmith ) [photos] => Array ( [0] => stdClass Object ( [id] => 4181 ) [1] => stdClass Object ( [id] => 4180 ) ) ) ) preserving the first item of the group and it's created time, and supplementing it with any other groupable photos and then unsetting any items that were grouped (so the final array doesn't have key 44 anymore as it was grouped in with 12). The array contains other actions than just photos, hence the original keys of 12 and 44. I just can't figure out a way to do this efficiently. I used to use MySQL and PHP to do this but am trying to just use pure PHP for caching reasons. Can anyone shed any insights? I thought about going through each item and seeing if I can group it with the previous one in the array but the previous one might not necessarily be relevant or even a photo. I've got total brain freeze :(

    I just validated my actual XHTML Strict 1.0 doc with the w3c validator service.. and it says that, <ul id="socialnetwork"> <li><a href="http://www.twitter.com" target="_blank"></a></li> <li><a href="http://www.flickr.com" target="_blank"></a></li> <li><a href="http://www.xing.com" target="_blank"></a></li> <li><a href="http://www.rss.com" target="_blank"></a></li> </ul> the target="_blank" is not valid.. but I need the target blank so a new tab will open in the browser, so that the user does not leave the main page. What can I do? Why is this not valid?

What I'm unsure of is the best way to link this "data layer" into MVC.
