    I have the following function: $('td:eq(' + iColumn + ') input', oSettings.oApi._fnGetTrNodes(oSettings)) .each(function () { aData.push(this.value); }); In typescript I am getting a message saying: Error 3 Function declared a non-void return type, but has no return expression Why am I getting this message? I can resolve the message by saying "return true". Should I always specify a return type for this?

What can be wrong with the code? EDIT1: The webpage contains: <div id="lesson"> <a href="/subj1">Subject 1</a> ... </div> On click, a browser (i.e. Firefox and Opera) should make an ajax-request of /ajax/subj1.

Which is why I get confused when I read references to both, such as in the quote below from an article on closures: Scope refers to where variables and functions are accessible, and in what context it is being executed. (@robertnyman) As far as I can tell, context is just a reference to an object. Can someone please explain what exactly is context, as used, for instance, in the jQuery syntax, $(selector, context). And is an object's scope the same at it's context?

  • IE6 forces Two clicks to trigger javascript style=display:inline; event

    I have a web form that has 2 radio buttons, depending on which one is clicked it displays a hidden element This works fine in all browsers except for IE6, which, after I click on the radio button, I have to click again (anywhere on the window) and then the element is displayed...has anyone had behavior like this before? I tried to not use jQuery and do straight getElementById() but I get the same behavior...     Maybe a closure is my solution? Not exactly sure how to pull it off though. The code is set up like so: var globalVar = ''; var globalVar2 = ''; function func() { if (condition) func2(globalVar) else func2(globalVar2) } In func2() I cache some HTML in a main container into the appropriate global variable that I pass to it. Basically I have a main container that holds different pages depending on what tab they choose. For performance I want to cache the page into global vars so I need to know what tab is active to figure out which global var to assign the HTML to.

  • JavaScript Drag and Drop Grid With Elements of Different Sizes.

    I need to be able to drag and drop boxes of differing dimensions on the same grid. JQuery UI seems to offer 80% of what I'm after particularly the sortable grid the have on their demo page. The only problem is that this grid only works with boxes of identical dimensions. My requirement is to be able to have the same functionality but with boxes that are sized as multiples of the base unit. For example - let's say the standard box size is 300x300px I would also like the opportunity to show on the same grid a 300x600px and a 600x600px box. There's no requirement to display boxes that are not multiples of the dimensions of the smallest box size.

    I am trying to stop the default mouse wheel event that is called on the window and on a div and call my own function instead on the div. I need this to be cross-browser (without the use of a library. I know I need to use an eventListener and I think have to use both onmousewheel and DOMMouseScroll (for FF) but I think am getting caught up in the implementation somewhere.     Hello, I have a list of elements, each of them appeared in my page through jsp. So I have this: <div id="title"><%= list.get(ind).getTitle() %></div> When I display the elements, as this tag is in for loop, I get everything right. Now I what to place a button for deleting each of this elements. What I have done is: <input type="submit" name="submit" onclick="deleteNewsFunction();" id="submit_btn"/> In the deleteNewsFunction() I just want to print the data. <script> function deleteNewsFunction(){ var item = $('#title').val(); alert(item); } </script> The problem is that the title var gets always the first item even if I am clicking on the button of the second item. I was thinking that maybe a solution is to add the "list.get(ind).getTitle()" as a parameter in the function like deleteNewsFunction(<%=list.get(ind).getTitle()%) but then it did not work at all. Does anyone know how to help me? Thanks a lot!

    I'm trying to add elements to an array that are lazy-evaluated. This means that the value for them will not be calculated or known until they are accessed. This is like a previous question I asked but for objects. What I ended up doing for objects was Object.prototype.lazy = function(var_name, value_function) { this.__defineGetter__(var_name, function() { var saved_value = value_function(); this.__defineGetter__(var_name, function() { return saved_value; }); return saved_value; }); } lazy('exampleField', function() { // the code that returns the value I want }); But I haven't figured out a way to do it for real Arrays. Arrays don't have setters like that. You could push a function to an array, but you'd have to call it as a function for it to return the object you really want. What I'm doing right now is I created an object that I treat as an array. Object.prototype.lazy_push = function(value_function) { if(!this.length) this.length = 0; this.lazy(this.length++, value_function); } So what I want to know is, is there a way to do this while still doing it on an array and not a fake array?

  • JavaScript: How can I determine what objects are being collected by the garbage collector?

    I have significant garbage collection pauses. I'd like to pinpoint the objects most responsible for this collection before I try to fix the problem. I've looked at the heap snapshot on Chrome, but (correct me if I am wrong) I cannot seem to find any indicator of what is being collected, only what is taking up the most memory. Is there a way to answer this empirically, or am I limited to educated guesses?

  • Best way to set a default button (or trigger its event in javascript) for an input field, not part of a form

    I've got a stand-alone input field, not part of any form. I also got a button, that has some onclick event. When I type something in the input field, and press the Enter key, I want it do effectively press the button, or trigger its onclick event. So that the button is "the input field's default button" so to speak. <input id='myText' type='text' /> <button id='myButton' onclick='DoSomething()'>Do it!</button> I guess I can mess around with the input field's onkeypress or onkeydown events and check for the Enter key, etc. But is there a more 'clean' way, I mean something that associated the button with that input field, so that the button is the 'default action' or something for that field? Note that I'm not inside a form, I am not sending, posting, or submitting something. The DoSomething() function just changes some of the HTML content locally, depending on the text input.

    I have a HTML file upload field from which I'm reading the file name of the file that the user specifies. The actual contents of the file is never uploaded. At a later stage, is it possible to construct a link using this file name information so that if the user clicks on this link, the original file is launched into a new browser window? If not, what are the reason for disallowing this behaviour? The purpose of such a feature is to store links to documents that are available on a mapped local drive or a network share.

  • What is the best way to pass server side variables to JavaScript on the client side?

    Our application uses a lot of configuration options. Those options need to be reflected on the client side in the form of User preferences, site wide preferences, etc. Currently, we pass server side settings down to the client side in the form of JSON that is stored in custom attributes in the markup for a specific element (and no, our application currently doesn't worry about W3C validation). We then retrieve the data from the custom attribute, and parse it into a JSON object for use in script using jQuery. One drawback to this is referencing attributes on elements from within event handlers. I know this is frowned upon, as it can create circular references, and subsequently memory leaks. I would much prefer to use jQuery's data function, but you can't invoke this from the server side at page render time. What does everyone else do in this type of scenario?
