• How to set up a linux user that can only access a repository via ssh?

  I have a mercurial repository on a secure server, to which I want to grant secure access to an external user. I added for him a user account and publickey ssh authentication so that now he could push/pull changesets via ssh. My question is: how can I make this new user account completely disabled from doing anything or accessing any data on the server other than accessing the repository? E.g. he shouldn't even have the possibility to enter an interactive shell session. Thanks

• Autoloading Development or Production configs (best practices)

  When programming sites you usually have one set of config files for the development environment and another set for the production server (or one file with both settings). I am assuming all projects should be handled by version control like git or svn. Manual file transfers (like FTP) is wrong on so many levels. How you enable/disable the correct settings (so that your system knows which ones to use) is a problem for me. Each system I work on just kind of jimmy-rigs a solution. Below are the 3 methods I know of and I am hoping that someone can submit a more elegant solutions. 1) File Based The system loads a folder structure based on the URL requested. /site.com /site.fakeTLD /lib index.php For example, if the url is http://site.com then the system loads the production config files located in the site.com folder. However, if I'm working on the site locally I visit http://site.fakeTLD to work on the local copy of the site. To setup this I edit my hosts file and add site.fakeTLD to point to my own computer (127.0.0.1/localhost) and then create a vhost in apache. So now I can work on the codebase locally and then push to the server without any trouble. The problem is that this is susceptible to a "host" injection attack. So someone loading site.com could set the host to site.fakeTLD and then the system would load my development config files instead of production. 2) Config Based The config files contain on section for development - and one for production. The problem is that each time you go to push your changes to the repo you have to edit the file to specify which set of config options should be used. $use = 'production'; //'development'; This leaves the repo open to human error should one of the developers forget to enable the right setting. 3) File System Check Based All the development machines have an extra empty file called "development.txt" or something. Each time the system loads it checks for this file - if found then it knows it is in development mode - if missing then it knows it is in production mode. Since the file is NEVER ADDED to the repo then it will never be pushed (and checked out) on the production machine. However, this just doesn't feel right and causes a slight slow down since all filesystem checks are slow.

  I apologize if this question sounds too generic, but I am researching WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) and I am having a hard time finding recent news. Do cell phones still use WAP or is it replaced by TCP/IP? I am guessing that since WiFi is supported in new cell phones, WAP isn't used anymore. Or did I misunderstand what is WAP? Is any aspect of WAP used today? I supposed there is still Push Mail and MMS.

• Good Audio Splitter

  I need to get audio from my computer's headphone jack and push the output to 2 sets of speakers. I have tried using a cheap splitter from Fry's, but one set of speakers ends up acting as a microphone (!?) for the other set of speakers. What's the best way to split headphone output and get best quality with no interference on each set of speakers? I would, of course, also be interested in why the cheap splitter causes one set of speakers to start acting as a microphone.

• Sublime Text 2 'text bubbling'?

  In vim and Notepad++ I have an awesome feature either mapped or built in that I've seen called text bubbling. I know about the Sublime documentation for mapping my own, but wanted to make sure I wasn't duplicating functionality: Basically when I have either block of text selected, or just a cursor on a line, I push (ctrl + up/down) or some other mapping, and the text is moved up or down, in a block, and the rest of the text 'flows' around it. Is this a native feature in Sublime Text or should I script it in?

• Redundant Connection Issue

  I'm trying to set up a redundant connection for our web hosting servers. I have a BGP-capable router connecting two lines from two separate ISP's, one fiber (primary), one DSL (failover). I've already confirmed that I can push routes into the DSL ISP's system, so long as they aren't malicious. My question is, what do I need to do on the fiber side to make those IP's routable through the DSL? Is there something I'm missing?

• iCloud stuff stops working while connected to OpenVPN [closed]

  I have a fairly simple OpenVPN setup on an OpenVZ VPS with Ubuntu 11.10. Client is the Viscosity client on Mac OS X 10.8.2, and after some testing, we can rule out the client as being part of the problem. Everything has been working fine except for Apple's iCloud stuff. Web surfing, email, FTP, NNTP, and Skype are all working as expected. It's ONLY the iCloud services that cease to function. If I connect to the VPN, iCloud stuff stops working. I no longer get anything in Messages, Calendar items don't get updated, and Notifications stop working. If I disconnect, the iCloud stuff all starts working. Connect again, iCloud stops working. • How to use the 4-in-1 card reader on my Lenovo x100e?

  My Lenovo x100e laptop has a "4-in-1" card reader that's supposed to handle SD/SDHC, MMC, Memory Stick and MS Pro, but I can't insert my SDHC card (a "SANDISK SECURE DIGITAL EXTREME SDHC 16GB 30MB/S"). It enters a bit and looks lite it will fit, but then it doesn't get any further in (and yes, I've tried to turn it around). It really doesn't move, and I'm afraid to break something if I push harder. Am I missing something obvious here?

• How to: mirror a staging server from a production server

  We want to mirror our current production app server (Oracle Application Server) onto our staging server. As it stands right now, various things are out of sync, and what may work in testing/QA can easily fail in production because of settings/patch/etc inconsistencies. I was thinking what would be best is to clone the entire disk daily and push it onto the staging server... Would this be the best method...? (note: these are all windows servers)

  When attempt to browse my Mercurial repositories it usually takes several refreshes before the repository list is displayed. The configuration is as follows: Windows Server 2003 (Dedicated machine hosted by http://www.server4you.com/. Site has anonymous password protection with self-signed SSL. Mercurial 1.5.3 Python 2.6.5 Python for Windows 32 extensions 214 py2.6 isapi-wsgi 0.4.2 The repositories are being served via ISAPI using the standard hgwebdir_wspi.py file (copy to follow). Other problems with the repository server: Before doing a clone/push/etc I have to browse the repositories first otherwise hg on my local machine can not locate the site. I have one a repository with a large changeset that after a minute or so throw error "abort: error: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host". There is nothing I can do to modify the software on either end; but everything in between is fair game. (routing, windows or linux software, firewall tricks, ...) • SQL Server 2008 - Performance impact of transactional replication?

Should there be a performance impact on my publisher server when it creates the initial snapshot, and synchronises it with a subscriber? However, ive found a bug in a set of core application files that are common to each branch. • iPhone contact list emptied due to faulty sync?

  When I'm in an area with unreliable AT&T cell data reception (e.g. all of Manhattan during the day), my contact list sometimes disappears, and does not reappear for an extended period of time, sometimes hours. Does anyone know why this would happen? Would using manual-only sync remedy this? If I'm using manual sync by turning push sync off, how do I trigger a manual sync?
