  • Netgear WNDR3700 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi are segregated

    I have a Netgear WNDR3700 with both the 2.4GHz (B/G/N) and 5GHz (A/N) broadcasting. I'd assumed that devices connecting on either channel would work together without issues, but there are some devices (such as my iPhone 4 or HP wireless printer) that will only connect at 2.4GHz, and some that connect at 5GHz. However, it seems that they're segregated on the network, so a computer at 5GHz can't print to the printer, but the iPhone can. This is causing issues not just with printing, but with AppleTV and so on. Is there a way to have the router let these devices all talk to each other?

  • Crowdsourcing translation for mobile developers?

    I am developing applications for mobile phones with different operating systems (Android, Symbian, iPhone). Applications are sold internationally so they need to be translated to different languages in addition to english version. I assume most mobile developers do the translations using some paid external service each time. This approach does not look very cost-effective to me. Would it make sense to have a website where simple translations would be done using crowdsourcing (other developers)? Most strings in mobile applications are very simple and short, for example "OK, "Cancel", "Are you sure?", "Please enter your password". Also the same strings are used in hundreds of applications. Instead of paying for translating all strings, developers could save money by only buying their difficult application specific translations. Does anyone agree with this idea? I have seen many opensource projects doing the translations succesfully using volunteers.

  • Migrating Magento Concern

    We have a Magento 1.5.0.1 store running at a hosting provider. Now, we need to migrate the same from that server to a new hosting provider. I had talk with a technical guy from the new hosting provider who told me to do following things. Go into the cPanel Backup Wizard . Make a FULL BACKUP and download the zip file Then upload that zip file on their server in my root folder. Then tell them and they will do the restore. My Concern :- Will everything work as expected. What about the connectionstrings and database and all. Will database be automatically created and work the same. Also, somewhere I read that ver 1.5.0.1 used older type of database which might not work on new MySQLs. Can this too have any impact. Should i proceed in the same manner or I need to take care of some additional things to ensure smooth running.

  • How to pass or display mySQL data based on subscription or billing

    I want to build a PHP based site where, the user can view data based on the types of data they've paid for. Allow me to use something simple for an example. Let's say historical data for basketball was not readily available but could be purchased. Simple information such as the Winner, Loser, Final score and date are all stored in a mySQL table. What would be involved so that, when the user logs in, they can only see the historical data they have paid for. My theories so far about the architecture: I imagined a mySQL table storing True or False values for all historical game data they have paid for. Based on this, a 'data chart' object enables the user to view all data within their mySQL row which has a value of 'true.' Follow ups: Assuming I am correct, what methods are popular or practical for this type of service.

  • Illegal Instruction When Programming C++ on Linux

    Heyo, My program, which does exactly the same thing every time it runs (moves a point sprite into the distance) will randomly fail with the text on the terminal 'Illegal Instruction'. My googling has found people encountering this when writing assembly which makes sense because assembly throws those kinds of errors. But why would g++ be generating an illegal instruction like this? It's not like I'm compiling for Windows then running on Linux (which even then, as long as both are on x86 shouldn't AFAIK cause an Illegal Instruction). I'll post the main file below. I can't reliably reproduce the error.   • Rails Model has_many with multiple foreign_keys

    Relatively new to rails and trying to model a very simple family "tree" with a single Person model that has a name, gender, father_id and mother_id (2 parents). Below is basically what I want to do, but obviously I can't repeat the :children in a has_many (the first gets overwritten). class Person < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :father, :class_name => 'Person' belongs_to :mother, :class_name => 'Person' has_many :children, :class_name => 'Person', :foreign_key => 'mother_id' has_many :children, :class_name => 'Person', :foreign_key => 'father_id' end Is there a simple way to use has_many with 2 foreign keys, or maybe change the foreign key based on the object's gender? Or is there another/better way altogether? Thanks!

Call something like LameSimple.ToMP3(file with PCM, File with MP3 , 44100, 16, MP3, VBR); ore such thing in 4 - 5 lines (examples ofcourse should exist) and I have vhat I needed It should be light, simple, powerfool, opensource, crossplatform.   • iPhone RSS Reader -- parseXML won't Load some XML feeds

    I am using the SIMPLE RSS reading example found at http://theappleblog.com/2008/08/04/tutorial-build-a-simple-rss-reader-for-iphone/ It uses parseXML to load the RSS feeds. Here is the problem I am having. For the following RSS feed example, I am having trouble getting it to load the feed. Comes up with an error that it cannot connect. However on my Mac RSS Reader it works fine, so I know the link is good.   • Is it a good idea to define a variable in a local block for a case of a switch statement?

    I have a rather long switch-case statement. Some of the cases are really short and trivial. A few are longer and need some variables that are never used anywhere else, like this: switch (action) { case kSimpleAction: // Do something simple break; case kComplexAction: { int specialVariable = 5; // Do something complex with specialVariable } break; } The alternative would be to declare that variable before going into the switch like this: int specialVariable = 5; switch (action) { case kSimpleAction: // Do something simple break; case kComplexAction: // Do something complex with specialVariable break; } This can get rather confusing since it is not clear to which case the variable belongs and it uses some unnecessary memory. However, I have never seen this usage anywhere else. Do you think it is a good idea to declare variables locally in a block for a single case?

  • Can't connect to server from certain machines

    On a small college campus we have a VLAN setup for the computer labs. These machines get assigned IP addresses in the 192.168.7.xxx range. In the server room, all of the server are on the default VLAN and assigned an IP address in the 10.1.1.xxx range. For the most part this works, but the lab machines are unable to connect to one of the servers. They can't even ping it. They can talk to other servers on the same switch as this server just fine. At first I thought it might be a vlan issue, but I changed the server port vlan to match other known-working ports with no effect. Any ideas?

    Hi, I am looking to write a plugin controller in Cocoa that loads bundles, and exposes a specific set of methods for the plugins to call. My question is this: is it possible to know (any) info about the object that called a method in the controller. When an instantiated plugin calls a method in my plugin controller, I would like to know which of the plugin instances called the method, without having to rely on the plugin sending a pointer to itself as a parameter (I could always validate the pointer they send, but I want to keep the API methods as simple as possible). There may be no perfect solution (and there are simple workarounds), but it's always good to learn some new tricks if possible (or the reasons why it's impossible). Thanks in advance.

  • Any way to avoid a filesort when order by is different to where clause?

    I have an incredibly simple query (table type InnoDb) and EXPLAIN says that MySQL must do an extra pass to find out how to retrieve the rows in sorted order. SELECT * FROM `comments` WHERE (commentable_id = 1976) ORDER BY created_at desc LIMIT 0, 5 exact explain output: table select_type type extra possible_keys key key length ref rows comments simple ref using where; using filesort common_lookups common_lookups 5 const 89 commentable_id is indexed. Comments has nothing trick in it, just a content field. The manual suggests that if the order by is different to the where, there is no way filesort can be avoided. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/order-by-optimization.html I also tried order by id as well as it's equivalent but makes no difference, even if I add id as an index (which I understand is not required as id is indexed implicitly in MySQL). thanks in advance for any ideas!

  • Display processes that access a folder.

    I am trying to write a simple program, preferably in C, that will watch a given directory. Whenever a process accesses that directory, I just want to print out the name of that process. It seems simple, but I am coming up short for solutions on MSDN. Does anyone know which library calls I will need for this, or any helpful advice? I have considered repeatedly querying for what processes have handles on the given directory and just watching for additions to that list.This approach just seems very intensive and I am hoping there is an easier way.     I see a lot of talk about MVVM, MVC, Design Patterns etc... You know, some guy has a blog, and he spent the last six months learning about one these things and desiging a program centered around that concept and then he goes on and on about it like its better than sliced bread. I read all of this crap and I wonder, whatever happened to simple logical programming? Not self-absorbed huge frameworks of design patterns and mvc and whatever else you can think of... just simple linear programming, perhaps a few classes to encapsulate things here and there.

    Funny, how sometimes the simple things bite me in the behind. I can bind a DataGrid nicely to a Collection of some arbitrary class, using a DataGridTextColumn like this: <DataGridTextColumn Header="Name" Binding="{Binding Name}"/> Now I want to bind a DataGrid to a simple Collection. So since there is no property "Name" or something like that to bind to, how do I write the binding: <DataGridTextColumn Header="Name" Binding="{Binding ???}"/> String has no Property "Value" or something like that. And if I just write {Binding } I'll end up with a one-way-binding, unable to write changes back to the Collection. Thinking about it, I think it is not possible to bind to a collection, so I do need to wrap my string into a class? Or is there a way?

  • How to execute maven tasks in eclipse (Sonatype plugin)

    Hi all I know it must be something simple, but I just can't figure it out.. I'm using the Sonatype maven plugin on eclipse. When I want to build a war file for a webapp project, the only way I know to do it is to use the command line and type mvn package. I've looked all through the right click menu and I can't find any way to do it from eclipse. There's a maven submenu that seems to have no options to do with building, and there's a run menu that doesn't seem right - I don't want to run my project - I just want to build it. There is a maven build option in the run menu, but if I run it, a configuration window pops up for me to enter goals in.. How I do I just do a simple mvn package, but through gui? What am I missing?     Simple question really for anyone who's been through this: I have a form that I'm placing on a site. This form submits some parameters to a site which then sends some parameters using "GET" to another site, which then opens the third site. Now the first 2 sites pass so quickly that I can not see what parameters were passed using the URL. I can do a manual check using source code but its too long and complex. I just need a simple tool or hint or firefox addon on how to track every single URL (wven if it has a META redirect) so I can read parameters being sent via the form. Thanks

    Hi, I have an Organisation entity and a Region entity. An object of type Organisation can have one or more Region objects connected to it, thus I have a foreign key in my Region entity to the Organisation Entity. The Organisation and Region objects are pulled from my database using WCF RIA and entity framework. I want to put the Organisation objects in one ComboBox and the Region objects in another ComboBox, and when selecting an organsation having the ComboBox for Region objects automatically only showing regions that are connected to the selected organisation. Should be pretty basic, but the way I've designed it right now it doesnt work at all. So, any hint to how I can achive this? A simple simple codeexample is much appreciated! (I'm using SL4,WCF RIA MVVM)

  • PDO Prepare statement not processing parameters

    I've exhausted all efforts at what appears to be a trivial problem, but gotten nowhere. There is a simple Prepare statement: $qry = $core->db->prepare("SELECT * FROM users WHERE email = '?'"); $qry->execute(array('[email protected]')); However, no rows are returned. Running the query with the parameters hardcoded into the query results in a successful selection of one row. I've tryed many different methods of doing the prepare, but even it this most simple form it isn't working. The PDO object is stored in a singleton called Core. PDO is using the mysql driver.
