• How do i handle a heavy page?

  I have been asked to design & develop a page in asp.net which contains 7 tabs.Each table contains 2 Editable gridview & clicking on gridview cell should open a popup & that popup will open a new popup ( I would say nested popup). even when i switch from one tab to another. It should hold the griddata & whenever user will finish all the operations he/she will click on save button which will save all the data contained in the tabs. The page is really too too too heavy. It will definitely take a long time to load as it contains gridview operations , popup related jobs, tab data & tab switching. I am finding the best way i can achieve this with an acceptable speed of operation. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

• Is there an API for listing queues and exchanges on RabbitMQ?

  I've looked quite a bit, but I haven't been able to find a good programmatic way to list the queues on a RabbitMQ server. This is important because I need to clean up my queues and exchanges when I'm done with them. I don't always have a good "done" event that can be used to trigger a cleanup, so I'd like to do it with more of a garbage collection model. If I can list the queues, I can verify that the objects that they're related to shouldn't be producing more entries and clean them up. I know I can use rabbitmqctl to do it, but that needs elevated privileges. Since I haven't been able to find a way to list the queues programmatically, I've been keeping a list of names in the database. That works, but it's ugly.

• ASP.NET: Why can't I call a web-service twice in one page?

  Hi all! I built a web-application which calls a web-service twice in the application's log-in page - first, on Page_Load, and the second time is after a button click. When debugging, everything goes well, but after publishing the web-application and trying it - I cannot make the two calls for the web-service (each call is invoking a different function in the same web-service). If I call it once (say, in the Page_Load) its OK, but once I get to the button click event, the page just seems to be loading but actually doing nothing (loading to infinity). When I disabled the web-service call in Page_Load, the web-service call after the button click worked well, and if I switched between them (disabled the call in button click and enabled the call in Page_Load) the enabled one worked OK. How come this is happening? What did I do wrong? Could it be related to the fact that the location where I published my web-application has some URL-rewriting rules?

• PHP MYSQL Add up number of entries in single table and display in HTML

  I have a table called activities which contains a number of activities for projects (for example 6 activities are related to one project). On a manage projects page, you can see the projects, and I have one column which needs to display the number of tasks associated with the project (in that particular row). So basically, I need a query or PHP calculation that can add up the number of tasks for the project and then display this number dynamically! I know exactly what I need, just do not know how to implement it. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks.

• DataMapper: using auto_migrate! with many-to-many dependencies?

  Hi, I'm trying to migrate my app from MySql to Postgresql, using Rails3-pre and the latest DataMapper. I have several models which are related through many-to-many relationships using :through = Resource, which means that DataMapper creates a join table with foreign keys for both models. I can't auto_migrate! these changes, because I keep getting this: ERROR: cannot drop table users because other objects depend on it DETAIL: constraint artist_users_owner_fk on table artist_users depends on table users constraint site_users_owner_fk on table site_users depends on table users HINT: Use DROP ... CASCADE to drop the dependent objects too. I have tried everything I can think of, and thought I had things working when I added :constraint = :skip to the field definition, but I keep getting that error back when I try and run auto_migrate. I thought that :skip meant that it would ignore the dependents, but maybe that only applies for deleting rows and not dropping tables? I should mention that I can run auto_migrate after i nuke the db once, but after that, errors. Any suggestions or advice much appreciated.

• Possible relationship between PHP Mailer and Mailer-Daemon

  Hi, I am using the PHPMailer Class from a website which sends confirmation of the user ajax upload to my client. This uses the mail.myclient.com SMTP Host. This is the same SMTP Host that my client uses for his outlook to check his emails. This email from the website gets sent without errors although I have received two emails from my client regarding Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender for the same address I have used to send confirmation emails out from. Can these two issues be related? Do I need to provide more info? Thanks a bunch!

  i have been programming in C/C++ for my academic courses a lot and was under the impression i had a pretty good grasp of it. but lately i had to work in a bluetooth application that had a server and client implementation in a Linux box and an embedded system. i learned bluez bluetooth API, socket/network programming and coded it. however i ran into a lot of problems with memory leaks and segmentation faults and other memory related errors along the way.as the code grew more complex i all but lost control of the pointers and threads and sockets. this got me wondering that i had a lot to learn that they didn't say in the basic C/C++ books. so i wanted to ask for the resources that are available that'll help be code better in a professional way in C/C++ .especially for the Linux/Mac environment (gcc compiler).

• JAXWS serves only 100 requests, how to configure JAXWS to change it to unlimited?

  Hello, I'm using JAXWS for generating webservices and serving using EndPoint.publish() as well as deploying war file, but as soon as it has served 100 requests it wouldn't return 101st response. How to configure JAXWS to change this count to unlimited? EDIT: solution found, first of all it was not related to JAXWS and I'm sorry for posting it here, in my first impression I thought problem is with JAXWS but after deep exploring and debugging I found problem with my persistence layer (Hibernate) where max number of sessions allowed are 100 by default. Sorry again for making you guys to think which actually does not make sense.

• Rails: Settingslogic accessible to users?

  I have my app configured with Settingslogic, which I love. My question is how to I make a page on my Rails app where Administrators can make changes to the settings specified in config/settings.yml?? I assume said page would have to read and display appropriate form fields for all the values in the YAML file, then save those values back to config/settings.yml? • How to get or make a WPF WebBrowser with a visual.

  Having problems related to WPF WebBrowser not having a visual. Reason being, that it actually a wrapper around the winforms browser. Anyways, I searched the web for any solution to this problem, and got hold of the following suggestions: http://chriscavanagh.wordpress.com/2009/08/25/a-real-wpf-webbrowser/ http://rob.runtothehills.org/archives/60 The first one solves everything, but seems like an overkill. Plus, the dll's should be licensed for commercial use. The second one seems simple, but not able to figure out when to refresh the screen. Plus there's so much to do like sending mouse and keyboard messages to the webbrowser. P.S. The problem I'm trying to solve is to show the same webbrowser on different windows. They both must be interactive, and always in sync visually.

• How to approach this SQL query

  I have data related as follows: A table of Houses A table of Boxes (with an FK back into Houses) A table of Things_in_boxes (with an FK back to Boxes) A table of Owners (with an FK back into Houses) In a nutshell, a House has many Boxes, and each Box has many Things in it. In addition, each House has many Owners. If I know two Owners (say Peter and Paul), how can I list all the Things that are in the Boxes that are in the Houses owned by these guys? Also, I'd like to master this SQL stuff. Can anyone recommend a good book/resource? (I'm using MySQL). Thanks!

  Hi folks, My next project will be all about language tools, parsing and such. Because of that reason I've decided to write a simple language which can be used for video editing. So instead of those desktop applications (Sony vegas, Adobe Premiere, ..) it's basically a language where you define the effects and all and it will generate a video for you. Since I've got no experience in this kind of business I need some help. The goal of the project is to create a simple language which is able to do some basic things (such as text fading in, etc). I am looking for articles/projects/blogs/whatever related with this which could help me writing this language. • What could be adding "Pragma:no-cache" to my response Headers? (Apache, PHP)

  I have a website whose maintenance I've inherited, which is a big hairy mess. One of the things i'm doing is improving performance. Among other things, I'm adding Expires headers to images. Now, there are some images that are served through a PHP file, and I notice that they do have the Expires header, but they also get loaded every time. Looking at Response Headers, I see this: Expires Wed, 15 Jun 2011 18:11:55 GMT Cache-Control no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0 Pragma no-cache Which obviously explains the problem. Now, i've looked all over the code base, and it doesn't say "pragma" anywhere. .htaccess doesn't seem to have anything related either. Any ideas who could be setting those "pragma" (and "cache-control") headers, and how I can avoid it? Thanks! Daniel

• Style question: Writing "this." before instance variable and methods: good or bad idea?

  One of my nasty (?) programming habits in C++ and Java is to always precede calls or accesses to members with a this. For example: this.process(this.event). A few of my students commented on this, and I'm wondering if I am teaching bad habits. My rationale is: 1) Makes code more readable — Easier to distinguish fields from local variables. 2) Makes it easier to distinguish standard calls from static calls (especially in Java) 3) Makes me remember that this call (unless the target is final) could end up on a different target, for example in an overriding version in a subclass. Obviously, this has zero impact on the compiled program, it's just readability. So am I making it more or less readable? I want to get out of my current "factory" job and into a computer related field as soon as possible. I found quite a few positions that I qualify for, but believe my pathetic resume has hurt me. My resume has a "skills" section where I list everything I am familiar with, but my employment section contains my first job (Super Wash, best car wash around!) and my current job (Assembling stuff that makes up various fans and motors). • VS 2008 unstable after "Stop Debugging"

  This was on Windows Server 2003 X86, VSTS 9.0.30729.1 SP I used "Attach to process" to debug the program, but recently when I "Stop Debugging" by "shift + f5", I was prompted with an error saying "VS has an internal error and will be unstable". After that all the debug related menu items were disabled e.g. "Start debugging" and "attach to process" etc., even when I forcibly closed the program the situation remained, leaving me the only option to restart the solution. The only reason I can think of causing this is that I forcibly kill the process a lot, in order to able to rebuild it quickly, other than that I didn't do anything abnormal to VS. another sympton: when I tried to close the VS normally, I was prompted with "source file [] does not belong to the project being debugged" for all the files I opened inside of IDE, but the file does belong to the project.   I get this error when compiling: forrtl: severe (256): unformatted I/O to unit open for formatted transfers, unit 27, file C:\Abaqus_JOBS\w.txt The error occurs in the beginning of the analysis. At the start, the file w.txt is created but is empty. The error may be related to the fact that I want to read from an empty file. • C#: Preferred pattern for functions requiring arguments that implement two interfaces

  The argument to my function f() must implement two different interfaces that are not related to each other by inheritance, IFoo and IBar. I know of two different ways of doing this. The first is to declare an empty interface that inherits from both: public interface IFooBar : IFoo, IBar { // nothing to see here } public int f(IFooBar arg) { // etc. } This, of course, requires that the classes declare themselves as implementing IFooBar rather than IFoo and IBar separately.   Not having a CS degree has left large holes in my programming related knowledge. In particular I'd really like to learn some of the computer networking stuff I would have got in a good CS degree. The problem I really have is "not knowing what I don't know". So far I know I don't know anything about the following (as far as computer networks are concearned) -sockets -ports -internet protocol (the whole IP stack I keep hearing about). • Add version control to existing SQL Server database

  I am part of a development team currently working with a database that does not have any kind of source control. We work with SQL Server 2008 R2 and have always managed the DB directly with SSMS. It now has ~340 tables and ~1600 stored procedures, plus a few triggers and views, so it is not a small DB. My goal is to have the DB under version control, so I have been reading articles, like Scott Allen's series (http://bitly.com/9cJmGR) and many old SO related questions. But I am still unable to decide on how to proceed. What I'm thinking of is to script the database schema in one file, then procedures, triggers and views in one file each. Then keep everything versioned under Mercurial. But of course, every member of the team can access SSMS and directly change the schema and procedures, with the possibility that any of us can forget to replicate those changes in the versioned files. What better options are there? And, did I forget any element worth having source control of?

• How to reset Scrapy parameters? (always running under same parameters)

  I've been running my Scrapy project with a couple of accounts (the project scrapes a especific site that requieres login credentials), but no matter the parameters I set, it always runs with the same ones (same credentials). I'm running under virtualenv. Is there a variable or setting I'm missing? Edit: It seems that this problem is Twisted related. Even when I run: scrapy crawl -a user='user' -a password='pass' -o items.json -t json SpiderName I still get an error saying: ERROR: twisted.internet.error.ReactorNotRestartable And all the information I get, is the last 'succesful' run of the spider.

• Validating Column Data Stored as CSV Against Another Table

  I wanted to see what some suggested approaches would be to validate a field that is stored as a CSV against a table containing appropriate values. Althought it would be desired, it is NOT an option to split the CSV list into another related table. In the example data below I would be trying to capture the code 99 for widget A. Below is an example data representation. Table: Widgets WidgetName WidgetCodeList A 1, 2, 3 B 1 C 2, 3 D 99 Table: WidgetCodes WidgetCode 1 2 3 An earlier approach was to query the CSV column as rows using various string manipulations and CONNECT_BY_LEVEL however the performance was not acceptible.
