• Weird zend fw problem that makes me crazy!!

  Hi, There is a problem that I can't resolve. I am developing a project and test on my computer which runs as expected. But when I move the project to testing server, which also has Zend Server CE, it gives blank page. Display errors function is ON and I put try catch at the very begining, but it still shows a blank page. When ever I write "exit;" command at the end of related view script, page works normally! What can couse this problem ? Thanks

• How to get a list of names + a count of occurrences relating to the name from another table

  Hi, Hope my subject line was descriptive enough. Basically, I have a table called Students, and one called Absences. The Students table contains student information (Name, DOB, StudentID etc.), the Absences table contains any absences (Date, Reason, related by StudentID). I want to get a full list of the students, plus a count of their absences. Sample results would be: StudentName Absences ------------- ----------- Johnny 3 Mark 2 James 1 Anthony 0 Sharon 0 Can someone suggest a way I should tackle this problem? I would prefer to have a single SQL statement, possibly incorporating some views etc. Thanks, Jacob.

• Getting Bad file descriptor when running Tornado AsyncHTTPTestCase

  When running a test using the Tornado AsyncHTTPTestCase I'm getting a stack trace that isn't related to the test. The test is passing so this is probably happening on the test clean up? I'm using Python 2.7.2, Tornado 2.2. The test code is: class AllServersHandlerTest(AsyncHTTPTestCase): endpoint = AllServersHandler.endpoint # '/rest/test/' def test_server_status_with_advertiser(self): on_new_host(None, '127.0.0.1') response = self.fetch(self.endpoint, method='GET') result = json.loads(response.body, 'utf8').get('data') self.assertEquals(['127.0.0.1'], result) The test passes ok, but I get the following stack trace from the Tornado server. • require wp-load.php 3 directories back

  I'm trying to include a file (/wp-load.php) at the beginning of the /html/ directory. • Partial form with nested routes

  I have two models -- User and Entry -- that are related through a has_many relationship (a User has many Entries). I'm using RESTful routing, and have the following in my routes.rb file: map.resource :user, :controller => "users" do |user| user.resources :entries end This seems to work, but in my partial _form file, when I do this: form_for [@current_user, @entry] do |f| # Form stuff end It generates a URL like this: /user/entries.%23%3Cuser:0xb6a6aea8%3E instead of /user/entries Am I missing something? I should note that the correct classes are applied to the form when doing creation vs. editing, so it does seem to be correctly interpreting what I'm trying to do -- it's just that I can't submit the form to an invalid url.

• Google Maps or Open Street or Something Else

  I have been working on a concept for a while for a sports related website where users can record a location on a map and put that location into a category for a sport and then rate it by a metric or two. I want these metrics displayed on the map but then I want a link or button to view a full page description. I know that this is possible with Google Maps but I don't know a lot about Open Street Maps or other options. I am expecting around 50,000 views a day and am curious as to what the best option would be.

• Why is the EntityManager in my GAE + Spring (+graniteds) project reset to null?

  Hi all, I'm having a problem with autowiring my EntityManager. Actually at server startup I can see that the injection works ok, though when trying to use my EntityManager it appears to be null again. @Component public class DataDaoImpl { protected EntityManager entityManager; @Autowired public void setEntityManager(EntityManager entityManager) { System.out.println("Injecting "+entityManager); //works! this.entityManager = entityManager; } public void createData(String key, String value) { System.out.println("In createData entityManager is "+entityManager); //entityManager null!? ... Output: Injecting org.datanucleus.store.appengine.jpa.DatastoreEntityManager@a60d19 The server is running at http://localhost:8888/ In createData entityManager is null So somehow the autowired entityManager is reset to null when trying to use it. • GWT Internet Explorer Problem

  Hi All, I am running into a problem which is quite a bit surprising.I have an GWT application,which i can run perfectly fine on Firefox,but the same GWT application does not open up in Internet Explorer. When using Firefox i use <set-property name="user.agent" value="gecko1_8"/> and when i want to run in Internet Explorer i change it to <set-property name="user.agent" value="ie8"/> and debug.This way i am sure that the problem i am having is not related to deferred binding. When using the Internet Explorer (IE 8) i cannot even get into the onModuleLoad() part of my application.It looks as if Internet Explorer has downloaded all its stuff ,but has nothing to display. Is there something that i am missing here Thanks Bhargava

• Arduino not able to send serial data back

  Hello everyone So i found out how to connect the arduino to my java program. But using the seriel connections dosent give any useful data back, its either in the wrong format, or just sends it as a box. I've looked at the related questions posted early in here, but none of the tips seems to help. So does anyone know how to send the data between an arduino and a computer using the serieal port? P.S I've used the sample code from the arduino.cc homepage to connect to the serial port.

• MVC on Server 2008 R2 - How?

  I have a new WIndows Server 2008 R2 x64 DataCentre with Framework 3.5 SP1 and Framework 4 installed. When I install my MVC application (VS 2008 MVC 2.0 using a Web Setup project installer) and browse to the application I get an error that System.Web.Mvc cannot be found. If I copy the relevant DLLs (System.Web.Mvc etc)into the bin directory the app runs up perfectly. I have checked everywhere for an installer but can only find the VS2008 related bits, no server runtime. How do I get ASP.Net MVC installed in this environment so that we don't have to Copy Local the dlls? Many thanks Brian

I have a feeling its because of the fact that 4.3 is not using /Developer folder but instead the /Applications/XCode.app/... • Using protocol buffers for a comprehensive data strategy for Windows Mobile devices

  I have started reading some of the posts related to protocol buffers. The serialization method seems very appropriate for the transfer of data to and from web servers. Has anyone considered using a method like this to save and retrieve data on the mobile device itself? (i.e. a replacement for a traditional database / orm layer) Where would the data be persisted? How would the data be queried? Would it make sense to store the data in a traditional database (SqlCE or SqlLite) with a few "searchable" columns and then one column for the serialized data? Thoughts? Am I out on a limb here? Thank you!

  If I have a notebook with three spreadsheet widgets, what is the best way to have changes to the spreadsheet update a dictionary (or maybe an sqlite file?). Do all wx grid objects come with a built in dictionary related to the SetNumberRows and SetNumberCols? • Too slow gwt develpment mode !

  I'm using eclipse galileo with latest GWT 2.0 version in development mode, but it runs really slow (i should wait about 1 minute to open one page, but after compilation, my application works very well when I run it using tomcat 5.5). My code is not too heavy & i guess there is an os-related or software inconsistency problem, because I'd this problem before, but when i reinstalled my windows vista sp2 (I formatted my windows drive & reinstalled it), my problem solved for just some days & then again it became to slow ! I didn't install any special software on my windows, so i really dont know why this problem occures ??? any suggestion ?

• Faster forking of large processes on Linux ?

  What's the fastest, best way on modern Linux of achieving the same effect as a fork-execve combo from a large process ? My problem is that the process forking is ~500MByte big, and a simple benchmarking test achieves only about 50 forks/s from the process (c.f ~1600 forks/s from a minimally sized process) which is too slow for the intended application. Some googling turns up vfork as having being invented as the solution to this problem... but also warnings about not to use it. Modern Linux seems to have acquired related clone and posix_spawn calls; are these likely to help ? What's the modern replacement for vfork ? I'm using 64bit Debian Lenny on an i7 (the project could move to Squeeze if posix_spawn would help).

• Detecting network adapter changes on the iPhone

  Say that there are no WIFI networks currently available and my network-enabled app is connected over 3G. How can I detect if a user has roamed into a WIFI network? I would also like to detect the case when the user is connected over WIFI and suddenly received 3G signal. In other words, I would like to be asynchronously notified of network adapter changes. I tried using the SCNetworkReachability framework asynchronously but found that for some reason, I am not receiving Wifi-related events (i.e. adapter on/off) when connected over 3G.

• SaaS practical basics and projects

  So i need some directions. I want to understand Cloud Software as a Service(SaaS) practical initialization. The thing is I want to create a simple cloud service which would let me run programs on this cloud from remote machine. As I understand, I need some kind of specific backbone project to start this system, similar like OpenStack or Apache Cloud for Infostructure as a Service. Of course it may be that I understand it completely wrong and even if there is such project, it is not open source, free. I could also comprehend SaaS building on IaaS, but the thing is, I can't find any practical information at all. Could Somebody indulge me if there is any kind of free licence SaaS project or recommend a related articles or explain everything in a nut case with atleast vague direction.

• MVC (model-view-controller) - can it be explained in simple terms?

  I need to explain to a not-very-technical manager the MVC (model-view-controller) concept and ran into trouble. The problem is that the explanation needs to be on a "your grandma will get it" level - e.g. even the fairly straightforward explanation offered on MVC Wiki page didn't work, at least with my commentary. Does anyone have a reference to a good MVC explanation in simple terms? It would ideally be done with non-techie metaphor examples (e.g. similar to "Decorator pattern is like glasses") - one reason I failed was that all MVC examples I could come up with were development related. I once saw a list of pattern explanations but to the best of my memory MVC was not on it. Thanks!

• Recurrance Calendar Issue in Lotus Notes

  Hi all, I am creating a Daily Reccurrance pattern in calendar items. But there is a issue as before clicking "save and Send Invitations" button, but in the Document Properties field i am able to view the RepeatForUnit and based on its value i am identifying the Reccurrance type like (D: for daily, W: for Weekly, M: for montlhy etc). But, After clicking on the "save and Send Invitations" button, the Recurrance is getting saved but after that, i am unable to get the RepeatForUnit field in Document Properties. • Displaying a To-Many Relationship in a Table View

  I've got an application I've been working on. There are projects and employees, projects can have several employees, employees can work on several projects. Right now I want selecting a project to display which employees are related to it, and allows me to add employees I select from another full-roster list. Somehow, this has proven more complicated, because (at least for now), selecting different projects still displays the same list of employees, as if all employees who'd been assigned to any project, belong to all of them. What part of Master-Detail am I missing?

• Adobe Flex + Air or Java + JavaFX 2.0?

  Hey guys! I'm looking into a cloud-computing related career. I've recently graduated from school and have been meaning to study a new programming language. From what I understand, I need to get into RIA development for this. Flex and Java have certainly caught my attention, but I am torn as to whether focus on Flex then continue with Air, or study Java first and see how JavaFX 2.0 pans out, and then continue with Flex thereafter. I've no previous experience with either, and I'm sort of giving myself something like two years or so to learn. What do guys think? Thanks for the feedback! :)

• Enable editing does not call didSelectRowAtIndexPath ??

  Hi I have a UITableViewController where the user should be able to edit the items. In order to enable editing i use this : self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = self.editButtonItem; And for everyone, how does not know where self.editButtonItem comes from, it is predefined by the SDK. So, now when I press on any item, this method is called : - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath but as soon as I hit the edit button and while editing is active, this method does not seemed to be called. Any idea what I missing ? • reading unformatted fortran file in matlab - which precision?

  I have just written out a file: real*8 :: vol_cel real*8, dimension(256,256,256) :: dense [... some operations] open(unit=8,file=fname,form="unformatted") write(8)dense(:,:,:)/vol_cell close(8) dense and vol_cell are real*8 variables. My code to read this in in Matlab: fid = fopen(fname,'r'); mesh_raw = fread(fid,256*256*256,'double'); fclose(fid); The min and max values clearly show that it is not reading it in correctly (Min is 0 and max is a largish positive real*8). min = 3.3622e+38 max = -3.3661e+38 What precision do I need to set in Matlab to make it read in the unformatted Fortran file? A somewhat related question: This Matlab code I am using reads binary files OK but not unformatted files. Though I am generating this new data on my Mac OSX using gfortran. It doesn't recognize form="binary" so I can't do it that way. Do I need to add some library?

  Hi there. There has been a lot of talk around iPad-Apps / Approval / Store-related Questions. I've recently built an App which I'm just about to release / send to Apple for approval. I'm thinking about developing a dedicated iPad-App as well. Now, in order to not have two seperate Apps in the Store (one for the iPhone, one for the iPad) i want to create an universal-App for both platforms. However, i couldn't figure out if it is possible to first send in my iPhone-only app and later publish an update that enables my app to run on both platforms. • Add C pointer to NSMutableArray

  I am writing an Objective-C program that deals with low level image memory. I am using ANSI-C structs for my data storage -- Full blown objects seem overkill seeing as the data I am storing is 100% data, with no methods to operate on that data. Specifically, I am writing a customizable posterization algorithm which relies on an array of colors -- This is where things get tricky. I am storing my colors as structs of three floats, and an integer flag (related to the posterization algorithm specifically). Everyhting is going well, except for one thing... [actual question] I can't figure out how to add pointers to an NSMutableArray! I know how to add an object, but adding a pointer to a struct seems to be more difficult -- I do not want NSMutableArray dereferencing my pointer and treating the struct as some sort of strange object. I want NSMutableArray to add the pointer its self to its collection. How do I go about doing this? Thanks in advance, G
