  Running my app through callgrind revealed that this line dwarfed everything else by a factor of about 10,000. I'm probably going to redesign around it, but it got me wondering; Is there a better way to do it? Here's what I'm doing at the moment: int i = 1; while ( ( (*(buffer++) == 0xffffffff && ++i) || (i = 1) ) && i < desiredLength + 1 && buffer < bufferEnd ); It's looking for the offset of the first chunk of desiredLength 0xffffffff values in a 32 bit unsigned int array. It's significantly faster than any implementations I could come up with involving an inner loop. But it's still too damn slow.

  In each loop iteration, variable j is declared again and again. Then why is its address remaining same? Shouldn't it be given some random address each time? • Force freeing memory in PHP

  Hi everybody, in a PHP program, I sequentially read a bunch of files (with file_get_contents), gzdecode them, json_decode the result, analyze the contents, throw the most of it away, and store about 1% in an array. Unfortunately, with each iteration (I traverse over an array containing the filenames), there seems to be some memory lost (according to memory_get_peak_usage, about 2-10 MB each time). I have double- and triplechecked my code, I am not storing unneded data in the loop (and the needed data hardly exceeds about 10MB overall), but I am frequently rewriting (actually, strings in an array). Apparently, PHP does not free the memory correctly, thus using more and more RAM until it hits the limit. Is there any way to do a forced garbage collection? Or, at least, to find out where the memory is used? Thanks in advance, Dmitri

I do not understand how to READ the socket and get all the info summed up into a string. the socket might contains more than 1 line [trying to make a chat]. • C++ DWORD* to BYTE*

  My issue, i am trying to convert and array of dynamic memory of type DWORD to a BYTE. Fair enough i can for loop through this and convert the DWORD into a BYTE per entry. But is their a faster way to do this? to take a pointer to DWORD data and convert the whole piece of data into a pointer to BYTE data? such as using a memcpy operation? I feel this is not possible, im not requesting an answer just an experienced opinion on my approach, as i have tried testing both approaches but seem to fail getting to a solution on my second solution. Thanks for any input, again no answers just a point in the right direction. Nor is this a homework question, i felt that had to be mentioned.

  I have set up a local webserver using MAMP on ports 8888 for Apache and 8889 for MySQL - I am using this exclusively for Drupal 6 multisite. I would also like to have a local webserver using the native mac os x capabilities through ports 80 and 3306. Is it possible to run both MAMP local server and native osx webserver concurrently? I have tried to install php on my local server by editing the http.conf file but whenever I open a .php file (any php file) using Firefox I get an infinite loop of blank browser windows opening (FF) or in Safari the actual code of the php file is displayed rather than the php processed page. Have I missed/messed up something? Thanks,

  I have some code that uses the stristr function to extract data I need. It works, in that it gives me the results I'm looking for. BUT (you knew there was a but), it gives me this error message for every iteration of the loop: Warning: stristr() [function.stristr]: Empty delimiter in ... line 55 Like I said, the code works apart from this error.   Hi, I have the following entities in CoreData: Village - villageID Bookmark - (relation) village There are multiple villages with each an unique villageID. I have a entity Bookmark which only has a relation to a Village entity; it isn't possible to make a reverse relation. Now I would like to get the village entities where there exists a Bookmark relation. I've red something about subqueries, but I can't get it right for this situation. It must be something like: Village.villageID IN (Bookmark.village.villageID) It isn't possible to get first all the Bookmarks and then loop to get all the Villages, because of the design of the framework. Can this be done in CoreData (I presume the answer is "Yes, of course!") and how?

• Is there away to load a page only once with AJAX?

  I have an AJAX call to load a function once the page is loaded, the function opens a lightbox a like frame with some data. The issue is that if I click on close (lightbox frame), the page loads again and again loading the frame so the use never reaches the page under the layer of frame since the frame load on infinite loop. • Threading and iterating through changing collections

  In C# (console app) I want to hold a collection of objects. All objects are of same type. I want to iterate through the collection calling a method on each object. And then repeat the process continuously. However during iteration objects can be added or removed from the list. (The objects themselves will not be destroyed .. just removed from the list). Not sure what would happen with a foreach loop .. or other similar method. This has to have been done 1000 times before .. can you recommend a solid approach?

However, I need to be able to change the "name" field of the checkboxes to check several different sets of them. This is probably elementary, but I can't find anything online. I could have a for-loop which creates a string "#p1,#p2,#p3,#p4,#p5" which could then be passed to jQuery as a single selector, but isn't there another way? Isn't there a way to pass an array of strings as a selector? EDIT: Actually, there is an answer out there already.
