  • Windows 7 offline files - work temporarily offline even if network connection works

    Sometimes I am connected via VPN to a network containing the server where files are stored which are cached by Windows offline files feature. Sometimes the connection works good and working this way is not a problem - on other times working is quite a pain because of high latency when working with the files in the Windows explorer. Is there an interactive way how a user (with admin permissions) can temporary suspend online usage of offline files? I already activated the "Transparent caching" group policy feature (Computer Configuration Policies Administrative Templates Networks Offline Files) with a network latency of 200msec but from my experience even if I get ping times to the file server of less than 40msec online usage is quite tenacious. Setting low latency times at this point causes the offline files often to toggle which makes problems with some applications working with several files and requires them to be consistent (like SVN client).

  • Sending output to both bluetooth headset and normal speakers - Windows 7

    Hey, I have a bluetooth "headset" (it's more like a speaker with a microphone on it, but it registers as a headset) and I want to play music through it. I also want to play the same music through the "normal" speakers on the laptop. Is this possible? If so, is it possible to play two different streams on each speaker? Say if I wanted to DJ a party or something, I'd want to hear the upcoming song and mix it before sending it live.

Überall fröhliches Wiedersehen, viele haben sich das letzte Mal vor genau einem Jahr getroffen, im Radisson Blu, beim OPN Day Satellite. So, die Masse setzt sich in Bewegung – auf geht’s zur Eröffnung: Silvia Kaske fängt an! 13:45 Uhr Die Keynotes waren mal wieder ein thematischer Rundumschlag – und ein kleines Who-is-Who im Oracle Universum zugleich: Silvia Kaske, Senior Director Channel A&C eröffnete den Partner Day, danach stellte David Callaghan (Senior Vice President UK, Ireland, Israel) die EMEA-Strategien für das FY13 vor und Jürgen Kunz (SVP Technology Northern Europe & Country Leader Germany) sprach über die Geschäftsmöglichkeiten mit Partnern. Christian Werner gab in seiner neuen Funktion als Senior Director Alliances & Channels Germany einen Überblick über die neue Struktur des Oracle Channels und stellte das deutsche Team vor. Zum Abschluss folgte mit Prof. Hermann Maurer ein Gastredner von der Academia Europaea, einer prominent besetzten akademischen Gesellschaft, die sich dem besseren Verständnis der Wissenschaft in der Öffentlichkeit verschrieben hat. Er wagte einen Blick in die Zukunft der IT: „Das Beste kommt erst noch“. Wie immer, in einem so komprimierten Programm, bleibt noch die eine oder andere Frage – aber jetzt ist ja Zeit, bei Coffee & Networking noch mal nachzufragen. Kurz nach 14 Uhr Viele haben inzwischen auch das erste Obergeschoss erkundet. In der Partner Service Zone ist das Angebot breit gefächert: Von Oracle Financing über das License Management bis hin zu OPN Specialized dreht sich hier alles um konkrete Angebote für Partner. Nach einem kurzen Abstecher in die ISV-Lounge, geht es weiter zur Expert Zone: Oracle Database, Oracle Options, Fusion Middleware, Applications und Oracle Hardware heißen hier die Themen und an den Infoständen wird bereits lautstark gefachsimpelt. Zurück im Erdgeschoss sieht man noch diverse Partner, Oracle Executives und andere Teilnehmer durcheinander wuseln, um ihre Breakout Session zu finden. Andere blättern im druckfrischen A&C Kursbuch. In den nächsten zwei Stunden stehen Business Opportunities im Fokus – aufgeteilt nach Hardware, Technology oder Sales Partnern – dazu noch die Angebote der VADs, die A&C Partner Sessions und das 1:1 Speed Dating. Einige Partner nutzen parallel die angebotenen Implementation Tests, um direkt vor Ort die Zertifizierung zu erhalten. Das doppelte Angebot der Breakouts ermöglicht den Teilnehmern, an möglichst vielen Sessions nacheinander teilzunehmen. Kein Thema soll zu kurz kommen! Ein AusblickWas erwartet uns noch, im Laufe des Nachmittags? Sehr informativ wird sicherlich das Leader Panel, in dem die teilnehmenden Partner Fragen an Oracle Executives stellen können. Wenn dann die ersten Teilnehmer unruhig werden, hat das nichts mit den Themen zu tun. Nein, es steht vielmehr noch ein spannender Höhepunkt bevor: die Partner Award Ceremony (über die wir später ausführlich berichten werden).   • Capslock turns on intermittenly on Windows Login Screen

    At first I thought it was a coworker playing a joke on me.. I have a habit of locking my workstation whenever I leave my desk. however i have noticed over the last several years that sometimes the capslock key would be on when I return. I don't notice this until i try typing in my password (which would fail because its in ALL CAPS) and then glance at the now illuminated caps lock key. This has happened on and off across half a dozen workstations on 2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7. Possible causes I'm losing my mind "feature" in windows? some sort of institutional domain policy at my workplace someone has been messing with me for many many years ?

  • New IE windows open in background on restricted computer

    We have a new computer build that is locked down via GPO. We have locked it down as tight as we can, but now new IE windows that are opened with shortcuts open behind the active window. I can post the whole list of restrictions if it is necessary, but there are a lot of restrictions. The machine has a domain account that automatically logs in, that account is the actual AD object that we have locked down. What restrictions could cause the new windows to not have focus? I apologize for a question like this, but I had 1 day to build this, and now 2 days to iron out bugs our clinical analysts find.

  • enable PHP on windows Apache server

    Hi, I need to run a PHP app on a windows apache server. I've installed Apache, unzipped the app into the htdocs folder, but when I type this URL into the browser http://localhost:8080/pixelpost/admin/install.php I get the content of the PHP file, rather than the output it should generate. What are the steps for enabling PHP support in Apache on windows? I guess I need to install mod_php, and possibly do some other stuff, but my Apache and PHP knowledge is minimal, so idiot-proof instructions would be much appreciated. Thanks, Don

  • Problem with the hosts file in Windows XP

    I have a computer with Windows XP SP2 with a weird problem. The hosts file doesn't work. No matter what I do, adding or removing entries in the file doesn't make any difference, pinging the added names times out. I tried flushing the DNS cache (using ipconfig /flushdns) but that didn't work, I even tried to restart the DNS client service but that made no difference too. Removing entries also has no effect, I ping the names and I get a reply. Help!!! Edit: Thanks for your answer guys, but the problem is more complicated than this. It seems I'll have to reinstall Windows.

  • Windows shuts down unexpectedly when waking up from sleep

    I've been facing this issue since yesterday, whenever I put the computer into sleep mode and when I wake up, it takes me to boot menu with choices; start Windows normally, safe mode, etc. in short, it shuts down unexpectedly while waking up. I have my laptop dual booted with up-to-date Windows 7 SP1 (32-bit) and Ubuntu 10.10. This problem is not happening with Ubuntu. I googled the issue and went through this, this and this page. But, none of the threads were helpful to solve it. I've found that there's something to do with device drivers. What can be done to resolve the issue? Can SFC utility solve it if it is due to corrupt system files?

  • Windows 7 - Move location of Eventlog

    I am having a particular nasty problem of my main system drive 'disappearing' all of the sudden while the system is running. The vendor somewhat knows about this but has not managed to fix it completely over multiple fw iterations. Problems I have with the support is that I cannot provide any particular system log files/entries to further analyse what might have been going on because, well - windows cannot write to its 'lost' drive before bsod'ing. Is there any way to configure where Windows 7 stores its event logs so that I could specify a second physical hdd?

  • Keeping websites from knowing where I live

    This questions is related to issues and practicality, not security. I live in Brazil and, apparently, every single website I visit knows about it. Usually that's okay. But there are quite a few sites that don't make use of that information adequately. For instance: Bing keeps thinking that Brazilian pages are way more relevant to me than American ones (which they're not). google.com always redirects me to google.com.br Microsoft automatically sends me to horribly translated support pages in Portuguese (which would just be easier to read in English). These are just a few examples. Usually it's stuff I can live with (or work around), but some of them are just plain irritating. I have geolocation disabled in Firefox, so I guess they're either getting this information from my IP or from Windows itself (which I bought here). Is there a way to avoid this? Either tell them nothing or make them think I live somewhere else?

  • After installing Windows Phone 8 SDK, Connectify doesn't work

    Today I installed Windows Phone 8 SDK from the official site. After installing and a couple of restarts (it restarted the PC to enable Hyper-V), I opened Connectify. I use Connectify Hotspot to connect my iPod to the internet as I have an ethernet connection and no wireless router. The problem is that now, Connectify doesn't show WiFi in Share Over. The attached screenshot shows this. Previously, before I installed the SDK, it would show Ethernet and Wi-Fi. I would select WiFi and share my internet. Now, this is completely screwed. EDIT: I found out that the Microsoft Virtual Wi-Fi Miniport Driver has got disabled and I am not able to enable it again. Please advise. Please advise on what to do Hardware: Windows 8 Pro with Media Center, Apple MacBook Pro 9,1 15 inch Mid-2012 (non retina)

  • Where can I find drivers for Fujitsu Scansnap fi-5110 for Windows 7 x64

    I have a Fujitsu scanner that I cannot get working on Windows 7 x64. I have downloaded both the TWAIN and ISIS x64 drivers from the fujitsu website but Windows still does not recognize. I have tried it out using GIMP and Paint.net, neither program sees the scanner. I have also tried the fi-5000N Configuration Tool from Fujitsu but to no avail. Anyone know what drivers i need to install? Here's the info on the back of the scanner: Model: Fi-5110E0X2 Part No: PA03360-B015 Serial No: 026132 Date: 2005-09

  • Free Video Editing Software for windows with storyboard mode

    My dad's currently using windows movie maker to try to make a video out of a series of JPEG images and some MP3s. He's not very happy with it, since Windows movie maker seems to downsample the source images he's used, and not very efficently - despite them being the same resolution as the output WMM is supposed to make, and the replaygain based audio level normalisation on the tracks don't work. So, i'd want a free programme that has storyboard mode (else i'd use visualdub) that'll not try to change the resolution of images used to make a video (assuming all images are the same resolution), and preferably accept the normalised mp3 files we're using. WMM isn't a option, since Its what i'm trying to find a replacement for.

    i download one zip folder and extract it in windows 7. after extracting it shows file names with green color. now when i try to open any file, it give error access denied. even i set the permission on that file for full control, same error is coming. if i extract same folder in windows vista or xp no error. actually attribute of file is AE and when i right click on file and then select properties-- general-- advance -- encrypt contents to secure data is selected. if uncheck this option i can't apply it again gives error permission denied.     Is there a tool or a trick to easily duplicate a windows profile? My problem is that I have a local user profile and I like to copy that for another user. Additionaly that profile was created locally when a domain-user logged in, and I like to create a copy of that profile for a non-domain-user. Hope it's clear what my problem is. I've just seen there is a similar question: Copy Windows 7 profile from one domain user to another Now I like to know if it is possible to simply change the user-profile's Name and Password. Is this somehow possible?
