• No sounds played in google chrome tabs

  I have somehow muted all the tabs in my google chrome. Youtube and other flash players are playing video, but there is no sound. In Window 7 Volume mixer I can see Google chrome icon and it has muted icon there. But clicking that icon unmute sounds just for a second and then it's muted back on. Seems that chrome itself or some of it extensions are turning mute... Update: How do I mute certain tabs in Chrome? question seems related, but I don't have MuteTab extension installed in Chrome.

  I'm an avid user of Chrome and would defend it to the death but there is no denying that it has issues, and I've been experiencing a lot of them recently. Issues Stuck tabs Issue: Around 60% of the time (higher when the system has just started), when Chrome is launched, some or all of the pinned tabs and startup pages will get stuck in the counter-clockwise-rotating "contacting server" mode and never snap out of it. Fix: Quit and launch Chrome until they load properly (this really isn't good, as quitting and launching Chrome can and has cleared all pinned tabs). Extra Information: If you stop the loading and re-enter the URL then the page will load perfectly. The amount of pinned tabs or startup pages seems to be irrelevant, but I could be wrong.   "Downloaded/out of" Issue: Each item in the download bar has a downloaded status section, formatted as "downloaded/out of". Sometimes Chrome doesn't display the "out of" part.   Collapsed settings windows Issue: In Chrome version 19(ish)+, settings are configured via overlayed / popup windows. Sometimes, the window will open fully collapsed. Fix: Resize Chrome's window or open the developer tools. "Network Error" with large downloads Issue: Sometimes, when downloading large files (500MB+) Chrome will download the entire file, the download status will freeze (for example, "1 GB/1 GB") for a few minutes, report "Network error", and delete the .crdownload file. Extra Information: The same file from the same website on the same computer downloads perfectly in other browsers. The website and file type seem to be irrelevant.   Information: I've experienced some of these issues on my home PC and some on my work PC, both of which are Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The only things that link them are my Google account (all settings are synced). Updating Chrome hasn't worked. Most of these issues presented themselves around about version 17 and have continued right through to 21 (current). Uninstalling Chrome, deleting all data in %programFiles(x86)%\Google and %localAppData%\Google, and reinstalling hasn't worked. I have yet to see whether disabling all extensions would make a difference, but it's hard to diagnose as these issues don't occur 100% of the time.   In my case, I don't know if there's an actual solution. I'm just curious as to whether anyone else is having similar issues to those that I'm experiencing. At least then I'll know it's an issue with Chrome itself.

• Analyse frequencies of date ranges in Google Drive

  I have a Google Drive spreadsheet where I would like to compute occurrences of date ranges. As you can see in my sheet, there is a column date_utc+1 which contains almost random date data. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AhqMXeYxWMD_dGRkVGRqbkR3c05mWUdhYkJWcFo2Mmc What I would like to do is 1) put the date values into bins of 6 hours each, i.e. 12/5/2012 23:57:04 until 12/6/2012 0:03:17 would be in the first bin, 12/6/2012 11:20:53 until 12/6/2012 17:17:07 in the second bin, and so forth. Then, I would like to count the occurrence of those bins, such as bin_from bin_to freq ----------------------------------------------- 12/5/2012 23:57:04 12/6/2012 0:03:17 2 12/6/2012 11:20:53 12/6/2012 17:17:07 19 ... ... ... Hope it is clear what I mean. Partial hints are very welcome as well since I am pretty new to spreadsheeting.

• Change the Way Google Search Results Display in Firefox

  Are you tired of the default look for search results at Google? If you want a different and customized pleasing look for them, then join us as we look at the GoogleMonkeyR User Script. Note: User Style Scripts & User Scripts can be added to most browsers but we are using Firefox & the Greasemonkey extension for our example here. Before Here is the standard look for search results at Google…not bad but it really does not stand out that well either. Installing the User Script You may be asking yourself what makes this particular user script different from others. Take a look at the list of goodies that you get access to and you will understand: Multiple columns of results Removes “Sponsored Links” Add numbers to the results Auto-load more results Removes web search dialogues Open links in a new tab Favicons GooglePreview Self updating Can be configured from a simple user dialogue To get started click on the Webpage Install Button. Once you click on the Webpage Install Button you will see the following window asking for confirmation to add the user script to Firefox. Click Install to complete the process. GoogleMonkeyR in Action Refreshing the same search page shown above shows a noticeable difference already. The light blue background makes the search results stand out a bit better. This is an improvement from before but you will definitely want to have a look to see just how far you can go… Right click on the Greasemonkey Status Bar Icon, go to User Script Commands, and select GoogleMonkeyR Preferences. Once you have clicked on GoogleMonkeyR Preferences the search page will be shaded out and you will have access to the user script’s preferences. This is where you can really make your search results unique looking! Here are the changes that we started out with… After refreshing our search results things looked even better. A look at the entire page of results with our browser maximized and set for two columns. If you have the Auto load more results Option enabled new results will be added very quickly as you scroll down. Our set of search results after adding Favicons & GooglePreview Images. Conclusion If you have been wanting a more dramatic and pleasing look for the search results at Google then you can not go wrong with the GoogleMonkeyR User Script. Change as little or as much as you want to get that perfect look in your browser. • Google Talk Plugin in GMail on MacBook 2,1

  I'd like to use the chat section in GMail to make phone calls. I've downloaded and installed the Google Talk plugin, and it acts like it knows what it's doing. But when I try to make calls, the internal laptop mic doesn't work at all (i.e., no one on the other end can hear me). In the GMail chat settings, I've tried selecting "Default Device" for the microphone, as well as "Internal Audio Analog Stereo." No matter which setting I try, none seem to work. As I said at the top, this is only a problem in Ubuntu; it works just fine in OSX and Windows (which means that yes, my Google Voice account is properly configured). Here are my tech specs: Ubuntu 10.10 Kernel Linux 2.6.35-24-generic Gnome 2.32.0 Google Chrome 8.0.552.237 Google Talk Plugin (google-talkplugin) 1.8.0.0-1 MacBook (2,1) w/ internal microphone Any help will be greatly appreciated! • How to track events or e-commerce sales that occur later using Google Analytics?

  Here's my problem: I have a static site with Google Analytics tracking code. To buy one of my services, users call me, and when their order is ready (many days later), I send them an e-mail link to a special page (download.php) where I have GA tracking code that is executed the first time they visit, so I track a "sale". The issue is, GA thinks that "sale" was a separate visit, and erroneously shows that only direct visits to my site result in sales. I don't understand how I can view stats (Pages / Visit, Avg. Time on Site, etc.) about users who eventually bought something. I've tried events and e-commerce tracking with no luck. Please help!

• Showing schema.org aggregate rating in Google rich snippets

  After adding schema.org microdata markup for reviews and aggregate ratings, I expected review and rating information to show up in rich snippets. Unfortunately, neither are being shown. Google's Structured Data Testing Tool finds the microdata, and there're no errors or warnings on the page. Any idea what's wrong with the microdata markup? • Email sent via Google via relayhost being marked as spam

  Company email hosted by Google Apps. Company PBX in-house is Elastix. All voicemails received on the extensions of Elastix are supposed to be emailed by the CentOS server (Postfix) to the email address of the employee. Using relayhost on postfix, I am sending those emails through Google Apps (smtp.gmail.com), but some of these voicemail emails end up in the spam. Sending it through Google, and sending it to an email hosted by Google - yet there's spam. Email sent from the Google Apps interface - no complaints of it going to spam - just from the Elastix server. I've just asked our DNS domain guys to add spf records, but is that all that's needed? Some help please!

• Why do my Google sitelinks show gibberish for a PDF link?

  I have a website which Google lists nicely along with site links. One of the site links - to a PDF file - shows un-human gibberish e.g 67,8;45:: 56 83 @7<1. (7/0;,*;: /59( (7/0;,;<7, <7)(60:4 (9<7 /+ +2, VU I thought it might be due to the PDF's title property so I changed it. But there hasn't been an improvement to the site link. Other PDF site links are fine and display the title property as desired. Does anyone know how I might rectify this problem or what might be the cause? My uninformed guess is it's some transliteration problem between code and display text which, I suppose, means I ought to recondition the PDF file in some way. Not sure how.

• Google is not treating two Austrailian schools as separate sites when both are subdomains of qld.edu.au

  My question relates to two websites, each of which is a "Calvary Christian College", however in two totally different locations and unrelated to each other entirely (except by name, and domain). All schools in the state are issued a .qld.edu.au, in this case calvary.qld.edu.au and calvarycc.qld.edu.au. Now what's interesting is that these domains are crossing each other in sitelinks for searches such as "calvary christian college townsville" (if you check the sitelinks 2/6 are to a different domain). I've put a demotion in for this ages ago (we control calvary.qld.edu.au), however we're seeing no change on the results page. I have been able to get the owners of calvarycc.qld.edu.au to submit demotions for our domain, which should go in sometime this week. What can we do to tell Google that these websites are not interchangeable, despite both appearing as "subdomains" of qld.edu.au. We can possibly open channels of communication with the administrators of qld.edu.au but will need to tell them what we need to change, and at this point I'm out of ideas.

• Customising Google Maps breaks highway label blocks

  I'm trying to customise a Google map to use shades of a particular colour. It's working nicely except the blocks that contain major road names / numbers is illegible. I've figured out how to target styles to those elements, but setting the 'color' value sets both text and background to that colour. • Google indexed page a day before also reflecting in search but today everything vanish

  We had robots.txt which disallow all robots as we were in development. We are live now. We change robots.txt as per our requirement a day before. Submit indexes using Google Webmaster Tools index status. After this we can see proper result in search as well as Google images search was working as expected. Suddenly today all these things vanish from Google Search. Now again I can see old result i.e. under construction message. I checked robots.txt in Google Webmaster Tools, it's ok - no crawling errors. Kindly let me know what exactly happened? How I can inform this issue to Google?

  I have read the Google page event documentation, but I am not sure I understand it correctly. I am new to Google analytics, and I have two questions: Once I have google analytics enabled for my site (i.e. I have inserted the tracking code in my pages etc), do I need to set anything else up (at the Google end - i.e. in my Google analytics account) It is not clear to me how the event data particularly, relating to how the data can be aggregated and analyzed. For instance, if I want to track an event under category category for click action action, I will use the following code snippet: <a href="some-uri.htm" onclick="_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'category', 'action', 'label']);">Do Something</a> For the sake of simplicity, lets say I am interested in monitoring click events in my header and footer, and I want to find which pages the header and or footer is clicked most often. How would I set things up so that I can analyze the header/footer clicks aggregated at the page level?

• Why does Google Analytics show false referrals?

  Ever since Google revamped their Analytics interface I've been noticing a weird "bug" while viewing the "Real-Time" overview area. From this area I can obviously see live stats of visitors to my website but when I visit my website by opening a new tab (Chrome) and manually visit website the real time stats sometimes look like the image linked below. http://i.stack.imgur.com/mfniY.png Is there any reason why Google is saying that I was referred by Stack Overflow when I'm visiting my website from a new tab? Could this be something do to with how I installed the analytics on my site or could this be an issue with browser cookies? Have anyone else noticed this? I am mainly concerned about this because in the standard reporting area of my Analytics panel my referral stats are getting thrown off every time I visit my own website.

  How can I have my google-calendars availabe offline on my PC as well? I have been using dropbox to sync my calendars in ics-format between different PC's instead of using google calendar. The disadvantage of google-calendar is, that I can only see my appointments when online. Now I want to sync my calendars with my android device as well, what does not seem to be possible yet. So I am planning to have an online copy of all my appointments on Google-Calendar, in order to sync them with my Android device. At the same time I want to be able to access my appointments offline (have an offline copy of each calendar on my PC's synced via Dropbox). Is there a way to automatically duplicate and sync Coogle-Calendars with Ubuntu to achieve this? When I open Google Earth,a window pop-ups and says:"Unsupported Graphics Card Your graphics card does nor meet the minimum spec required to run Google Earth,which is a 3D accelerated card with shader support.It is strongly recommended that you try running Google Earth on a different machine or in a different rendering mode or upgrade to a newer graphics card.You may continue,but the application is unlikely to work." Maybe you'll say:"Buy a better graphics card!",but I used Google Earth on this machine an year ago,when I had Windows 7 & everything worked well,so my graphics card is good enough. The Linux version has bigger requirements than the Windows one or what???

I am working on customizing how my results appear in Google as best as possible. I have learned about the meta tags to customize the text summary. However, I have some hierarchical parts to my website. When a result appears related to the "tip-of-the-iceberg", I would like to show links related to the "child" pages. For instance, if you Google "Walmart" you will see the following links listed with the result: Electronics TV & Video Departments Furniture Toys Girls Living Room Computers Is there any way that I can help Google determine which links to show and the text to display for these child links on my site?   Possible Duplicate: How do I install Google Chome on legacy 7.10 computer? I am trying to get google-chrome to work on Ubuntu 7.10. I installed it with --force-depends and got it to install, but now when I try to run it, I get this error: /usr/bin/google-chrome: error while loading shared libraries: libnss3.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Is there a way to still get google-chrome to load even without this dependency satisfied? This is an old system that needs to keep this old 7.10 Ubuntu version and I would like to have google-chrome if possible installed, even if it means no sound or other features that are not compatible.

  Possible Duplicate: new domain, old links are 301’d from old domain to new, how will this affect my rankings? I have a site about bikers. Now I created a dating site for bikers. I don't need old site any more, I want to move all articles to this new dating site. So basically, this is not only moving content to new domain, but also to entire new site. What I am planning to do is to make 301 redirect for all 200 articles. For pages that are not articles, I will just put message that the site will be down soon. Do you think that I will get all google traffic from old site from those articles? Is there anything I should be aware and careful?

Now that Google has indexed those pages, I discovered that some of words and sentences that are listed in Google that lead to my website are having their meta descriptions somehow mixed up. Here is how it works: After I put a sentence on Google to check for my website ranking, I can see a page title in the results of page1, a link to page1, and a description from page2. Since my website is a forum, if Google mixes the links of threads, it leads my users to different kind of material that they were looking for. Is there anything I can do about it?

• Is there any Google Adsense revenue if a visitor rolls over (hovers) on an ad unit?

  I have noticed an increase in interactive flash animations especilly on 300px wide adsense ads. Many of them ask the visitor to rollover to either reveal what the ad is about, show a clip, etc. So I wonder: the visitor is giving attention to this ad, is viewing its message -- without clicking on it. In essence, the ad agency's objective is accomplished without a click, which would be a significant money saver if PPC is considered. This seems very ingenious on their part, and I wonder how this is handled by Google. Shouldn't there be a fee for a publisher if visitors interact with ads, regardless of clicks? CTR becomes irrelevant in this context. Are you aware of anything being discussed in this respect?
